Not to be mean... but Universal is definitely letting Lady Luck's age show quite a bit. First the tummy pouch, now the arm wing. Don't get me wrong, most of us gals are in for the same fate. Diet and exercise can only prevent so much for so long, which is why I'm a little bit surprised that they went with a more mature woman for what I'd have sensationalized as a youthful, reckless, and showy theme. And we can do better than that wig, Entertainment. : P Anyway, I do think it's a unique and valid approach, just not sure how effective it is for me on a personal level.

I see what you mean, but I personally like how old she is. The young and reckless age doesn't seem to fit into a "casino" theme. She kind of reminds of a gold digger at a casino. The age definitely adds to the creepiness to me. Not saying she's a model, but she looks pretty nice if she is supposed to be old. And in that picture, I can't believe she is wearing a wig.... jeez TYRA... lol jk

Yeah, a friend of mine brought that up too. I agree, she wouldn't seem as menacing if she was way younger or had that cigar girl/chorus girl feel, and that actress is very much an attractive lady. I wouldn't have guessed that they were going to try for a timeless approach. Plus the fact that she's not really human and all.

Separately, they could have adjust the front of the dress though. Because I'm not convinced that that's actually her stomach. I think the lack of darting just doesn't work with that princess cut halter top combo. Very pretty dress, but sometimes a style just doesn't go with an individual's body shape. Can't tell you how many times I've picked up a dress that looked great on the rack just to find out that it looks terrible on me. It needs more couture and control, a la ribbing. Alright, enough girl talk.

OMG, I love you right now!

On topic, is it just me or is Lady Lucks hair the wrong color? In the commercials, billboards, website and ads she clearly has red hair. But in the house announcement video and now the Tyra Banks photos she has brown hair.

It seems like there is some hair color inconsistency, but I think that's just due to the fact that so few people actually have truly red hair. I think the marketing version of her is more fantastical and idealized, whereas what you're seeing for the real life incarnation is exactly what you'd expect: a real life actress whose hair looks natural. I've met a lot of strawberry blonds, strawberry brunets, and orange reds, but only like one true same crimson shade over her entire head redhead. I think if they dyed it to match it wouldn't be as authentic or believable, and lighting has a lot to do with it too. Hair color can play tricks in different kinds of light and at different angles.

Not to get too off topic, and this is not meant to start a brawl either, but look at last year; we had a Chance of every hair color throughout the park. The Chance in my house, Hallow'd Past, was a natural redhead with straight, shoulder length hair who braided her pigtails every night. The original Chance who was placed in the streets had long, frizzy, dark brunet hair. Her tap-out had straight, blond, shoulder length hair. It's something that tends to be a bit of a problem, mostly because the only real way to prevent the issue is to do wigs across the board, like with Bloody Mary.

I do hope that there are different wigs for this year though. The one in the Tyra photos... worries me. : \

I posted this list in the 7 discussion but I think it may tie in a little more than that.

These are the sins, their traditional colors, punishments, and animals

Notice they line up with our cards. (For the most part)

Sin..........Punishment ............................Animal.........Color

Pride........broken on the wheel....................Horse..........Violet

Envy.........put in freezing water..................Dog............Green

Anger........dismembered alive......................Bear...........Red

Sloth........Thrown in snake pits...................Goat...........Light Blue

Greed........put in cauldrons of boiling oil........Frog...........Yellow

Gluttony.....Forced to eat rats, toads, and snakes..Pig............Orange

Lust.........smothered in fire and brimstone........Cow............Blue

Now if you notice this accounts for all of our cards except pink/The Thing. Being an IP and that there are only 7 deadly sins... I can see how they would have added pink (flesh) as The Thing.

Now look at the punishment for anger/Red (i.e. our S&S card). Dismembered Alive... sounds a lot like S&S.

Granted you really have to stretch to make the rest fit (and the colors of the costumes in the SZ don't exactly correlate) but I doubt the colors of the cards are merely coincidence. (Also note Pride is "broken on the wheel" and Luck straps people to a wheel.) I think they took the elements of this list and used a bit of artistic liscence.

The inconsistencies in the hair colors for Chance last year was mind boggling. When the girls came in for their costume fittings everyone had a different color of hair and I thought we'd do wigs on them to make them appear the same, but I guess they were going for an "au naturale" look. To me, that kind of threw off the whole character concept. Each girl did a great job, but it was weird seeing one Chance with blonde hair, one with red, one with black.

Hey all!!!

Finally caught up on this thread! Sheesh, I leave town for a week and y'all get crazy ;)

A couple things:

-I LOVE the originality being showcased this year. I'm not psyched about every single house or SZ (The In Between sounds particularly lame to me... almost like Disorientorium, but with 3D glasses) but a lot of creative risks which is awesome!

-Forgive my naivete, but what is "Hell Week"?

-And, yes, we get pretty screwed out here at the event in California. It's better than Knott's but can't hold a candle to HHN Orlando. That's why I book a trip down there every year, no matter what! But there are dedicated fans out here who want Hollywood to do better. Problem is that we're the vocal minority and people line up for the event whether it's full of repeats or not. It's a shame.

-Yes, the commercial is totally cheesy. But I still like Lady Luck as the face of the event. I seem to be in the minority in that I have no issue with a less involved backstory. It's a nice to have but not a need to have, IMO.

CANNOT WAIT! :D

How do I get to the backstories? I keep hearing them mentioned, and yet have no idea on how to find them.

After you beat any Multiplayer game (the games played from 6pm-6am) you get taken to "The House" section of the backroom and you need to click on the corresponding colors that look like a beacon going off on different areas of "The House". I hope this helps.

This makes me curious. It sounds like what one of the schools over here has for Homecoming Week. XD

Also, what the story on the icon this year, this "Lady Luck" person? (Si, I noticed the casino theme. <3 Love it!)

This is a great concept for this year, it really gets people interested in the website...however, I wish that the back stories for the houses were part of the regular site that everyone could access without having to play an interactive games. I'll be the first to admit I have no patience for those kinds of things...dang it, I want to have the info given to me! :D

Does the sunlight affect any of the Tents or Parade building when the event first starts in the evening?? I plan to start in that area first

The problem is that you go straight from the sunlight into a dark house. Your eyes don't adjust, so you can barely see anything inside the houses. Usually the Disaster houses are the best to go to first, since they tend to have a bit of sunlight bleed, so it's possible to see.

I'm with you on this one. I feel like a backstory is just the cherry on the sundae - it's a pleasant addition, but it doesn't make the whole event.

yes, just like the other houses, the tents get affected, dead exposure and hallow were really horrific because i was literally blind, i could not see where i was going, is horrific for a couple of reasons

you dont know where you are going or where the door to the next room is

you are freaking out that actors see you disoriented and will get you more

people behind you are getting mad you are lost

If you have some really dark shades, I would wear them until you are actually inside of the house and away from the sunlight.

This has helped me in the past as we usually go to the AP early access houses (tents and parade building) and made the mistake of not wearing eye protection outside one time last year. Needless to say, it was a "gropefest" trying to make my way through Catacombs, and I'm pretty sure I looked like a zombie (arms outstretched) while walking through most of the house.

If you want to be really fancy, you can go with the tried and true "eyepatch" route (which may actually somewhat fit in with the Forsaken house). Basically, pirates and sailors (like those on the ill-fated 4th ship) would wear an eyepatch over one eye while on deck and then switch it to the other eye when they went below deck. This would essentially allow them to see in the darkened quarters below deck because the eye that was under the eyepatch was already accustomed to the darkness.
