HHN Update from Murdy's Twitter:

Made progress today on design of maze #1 for HHN 2012. Have to pick up the pace! Going under the knife in T-Minus 15 days! The Horror!

Since this will probably be John Murdy's last year before he works on Harry Potter, does anyone want to bet that his scarezone will finally come to fruition after two years? It'd be nice to see the scarecrows.

Speculation season officially begins TOMORROW with John Murdy giving us the first code name!

I'm glad Murdy is bringing this back to keep us fans on our toes to try and crack these code names once again.

This should give us much to talk about, theorize and debate about and I couldn't be more excited!

Oops the codename is not the smiths its one of their songnames is the codename that reveals the theme of the maze

The first thing that pops into my mind is their song "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" and I could relate that to Murdy's long desire to get the rights to 'The Exorcist'.

That could totally be way off the mark, but it's the first thing I thought of.

Other Smith's songs that have potential for revealing mood/tone/theme of the maze could be (and I'm just gonna list a bunch that come to mind):

Here were my guesses to John:

"Some Girls are Bigger than Others" and I guess tha because I'm really hoping for an "Alien" maze this year.

"Big Mouth Strikes Again" because I feel that 'Big Mouth' refers to "Scream" making a return.

"Back to the Old House" which could refer to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" which takes place in an old house.

To one of these, John stated:

"It certainly could"

(I'm leaning towards Scream, since we all know John has a way of trying to redo any attempt he might have fumbled in previous years. e.g. "La Llonora")

I'm going to pick a few songs here at the top o' my head. Remember, it doesn't HAVE to be a movie theme. Also, is Murdy going to even reveal what the song title is? Even if it was a movie or original, it would be kind of a dead giveaway.

Meat is Murder - Eh, this is kind of obvious. TCM. Next.

Cemetery Gates - Pantera haunted house? Okay, maybe this could mean a cemetery themed house like Orlando had, but Hollywood would get criticized from copying Orlando.Probably won't happen.

Suffer Little Children - Hope this won't be it. That would spell out a La Llorona repeat.

Queen is Dead - I could see this as some sort of French Revolution house of some sort. Hasn't that (Sort of) already been done with Alice Cooper?

Pretty Girls Make Graves - Can't think of anything except....SORORITY ROW!

How bogged down would it be if they did FOUR? They have trouble coming up with new stuff for Terror Tram and new ideas for scarezones. If his focus was so thrown off from doing 2 original mazes last year that it made everything else in the event lacking, he shouldn't be putting any more focus than 2 a year as it is, and 3 is pushing it as I'm honestly terrified what will happen to this event if we get more of what we had last year (and by more, I mean the dramatic amount of "less" we got). Scream? Return of Klownz & Freakz? Return of HOTC? The Wolfman's non existant overlay? The lack of an overall theme? We could go on for days with what was wrong with 2011 and my guess is all his focus was on the original houses. And I don't want another 2011 happening in 2012. 2 original and 4 movie based was already stretching it for him, sadly. Half and half might damn well end the event in terms of what it used to be. But 4 original houses and 2 movie themed? Forget it. HHN could very likely suffer it's worst year yet. The mazes could still be great but there's other things in the park that need tending to. The mazes in 2011 were kinda decent but everything else in the park made me feel last year was my least favorite year in terms of something not being as epic as it could be. Frankly, if the Terror Tram was up to snuff, I probably wouldn't have batted an eyelash to the scarezones or HOTC. But for there being 5 MAJOR downfalls, 2011 was practically a dud and the mazes almost had nothing to do with it!

Murdy needs to focus on park overall, not just hoping the mazes are good enough to keep guests happy (it probably does, I truly don't know). But an amazing experience relies on all elements, not just one of them!

That sounds like a whole bunch of cynicism and ofcourse, that's all based on my opinion but I just like seeing the event being GREAT instead of just okay like last year was (but make no mistake, HHN's "okay" is still a GREAT in my book, compared to other stuff)

Just to clarify, it would be three originals. I was excluding HoH.

I disagree about Murdy being strongest at making movie houses; I think the original content is where he's strongest at. Alice Cooper (Even though there were a lot of reused sets) and La Llorona were my two favorites of last year. I feel Murdy is stronger with making some really good original content houses.

I'm not sure if I understand you entirely, but are you saying that the creativity sucked everything out of the scarezones, the T2 queue, and the Terror Tram? Trust me, that was not the problem. If Murdy could make better scarezones, you bet your bottom dollar he could! The sound walls and the multiple neighbor complaints on the TT have sucked the budget dry. The reason why everything else sucked had nothing to do with lack of creativity. I will admit though that even with the crummy budget the Terror Tram had, they still could've done a bit more to it to help tie in with the Stab-A-Thon story/

I don't know if we can say Murdy does original houses better yet. As great as Alice is for some people, one thing is certain and that is it lacked a coherent story. I know of Alice Cooper, I listened to the album prior on different occasions and I read up on it before going in it, actually went through it, read up on it after leaving and talked to the other people in my group on what they thought it was about -- I STILL don't know what that maze was about. We can't dismiss that fact just because it's a nightmare maze, as even Freddy's biggest moments in 07 and 08 seemed to stream together. And La Llorona, I have a feeling that was more due to Chris Williams' amazing art direction that made it so amazing.

And yes I'm saying the creativity was sucked out of all the other areas. He even admitted he neglected the scarezones and Terror Tram in comparison. Theme he never said so I'm not sure of, but obviously he didn't worry about that. And HOTC returning, I don't know who's decision that was. Despite the budget issues, creativity is PRICELESS. There's no excuse for bringing back Freakz or Klownz. Or using comical-like zombies again in Zombieville. Or not creating a unifying theme. As much as Wolfman sucked and it seemed no budget was in it (or it was all towards costumes, IDK), at least his heart was in the right place in doing something that we've been sorta wanting. Scream had no imagination at all. It's problems weren't with the budget; it was with the storytelling (again, something that's PRICELESS). They could've easily used the Scream elements and they chose not to, instead trading in for stuff that nobody cared about. The fence maze was a good idea and they tried to do something different, but even besides that, Scream wasn't felt on that Terror Tram and the fence was gone after the first weekend anyway. Not to mention the promise of a Stab-A-Thon was never seen. So the story of the movies wasn't present and the story they set up themselves never followed through OR it was followed through in a way that wasn't clear (which Freak mentioned). These are things due to neglect, lack of imagination/creativity & passion (we knew this last one going in though that Murdy absolutely did not want to do Scream) -- NOT budget. :-/

I love Murdy and HHN though, so I don't want it to seem like I just like to shit on 2011 all day as I still enjoyed the hell out of the event lol
