HHN Hollywood 2014 Speculation

Recommended Posts

The Conjuring was one of the more effective horror films last year. Good opportunity for a maze with its selection of characters and environments. But its run has ended with only a smattering of discussion on how to keep the property alive through sequels. Not quite a classic either so I am not sure if it will be considered this year.

Murdy loves to try to replicate success. The Conjuring would have a similar feel to Insidious in that it would be another paranormal maze. I think Murdy will focus more on wanting to replicate success so I think it's chances are high just because it would be another paranormal maze. We still have 3D mazes from House of 1000 Corpses' success, we still have creature effects throughout the mazes from the Thing's success, we're still getting Walking Dead from its success, and we still have a crappy Terror Tram after its high ratings. This is one property I'd be willing to put a Las Vegas bet on for this year.

True on all counts, but the logic could also be in conflict with the formulaic way properties were previously chosen. Conjuring might not have 3D potential or attached to a music artist, has no upcoming 2014 theatrical support, or has had the time to be considered a classic or familiar horror property. For me, I would love to see it at HHN, however, consider it more wishful thinking.

Poltergeist remake, Insidious 3, AND Annabelle. The paranormal slot in 2015 is going to be pretty coveted.

This year...it looks like Paranormal Activity (Marked Ones) is the most likely. Witches are *in* right now thanks to AHS and since there's a problem of finding more Hispanic folklore to use.

Alternatively, for a folklore maze they could just have brujeria. They had that witches scarezone in 2012. Everybody knows about witches, they are time sensitive since there's an increase in public interest which may not last. As long as they don't do anything stupid and corny like using the witch from The Wizard of Oz it could be pretty cool.

New update from John Murdy regarding one of the houses:

I just found the maze notes thank (insert higher power)! They were inside my passport. Suppose that's a safe place to keep them! It's a dam good thing I found the maze notes. Have to pitch it next week. Since I put you through all this drama, should I give you a hint? Okay here's a hint. Every maze has its own unique challenge. For this particular maze there are several challenges… costumes is one. This maze also has challenging scenic environments and a complicated story to communicate without using dialogue. Sound effects will be key. You may think you know it but you don't. It's something we've never done before. Normally I wouldn't do it but I felt like a challenge...Confused? Of course you are. That is the carny way my friends. Tricks before treats. All will be revealed in time. Stay tuned

Hmmm....any thoughts on what it could be? Note that Murdy tweeted someone that it's not original.

Trick r Treat would have challenging costumes and "story". That would also be something with a complex story...but it has a sequel coming out 2015. Unless Murdy met with the producers and discovered that the sequel would have enough to support a full maze so he can do the first one now.

Another possibility could be Dead Space. That has REALLY complicated sets and costumes and would have a complicated story. Not to mention that was rumored for Orlando and both parks like to share IPs. Killer Clowns is another possibility. Since there aren't any more rockstars they could really do besides Alice Cooper (Which I think Murdy would want to save for the tenth anniversary next year), this could be a good candidate for a 3D maze.

I think this maze is going to go in a sound stage. If you recall since 2012, the maze with the biggest venue tends to go first. Alice Cooper Goes to Hell (Dante) was designed first and Black Sabbath (Trickster) was designed first.

It could be resident evil If I recall wasn't one of the problems Orlando had was making it make sense to the GP?

If we're getting Walking Dead, that's going to be a negative.

I'm pretty sure we're going to get Dead Space. I haven't played the games, but from the clips I've seen on YouTube, there isn't much dialog but there's LOTS of sound effects. The costumes and environments in outer space would be insane chalenging as Murdy has always said that outer space-themed mazes would be expensive and challenging to do. After how successful last year was, it sounds like Murdy might have the funds to be able to do it. It's a rumored IP for Orlando and there is a new Dead Space coming up this year, making it time-sensitive. Sounds like this one is going in a sound stage as Murdy always seems to work on the maze with the largest venue. Dead Space for HHN 2014.

Remember, not much dialogue, sound fx is key, and challenging scenic environments.

Video games could have a complicated story. If this is Dead Space, one challenge would be to have the maze "make sense" if you have the main character in the game die more than once in the maze.

If its a Video game i would think he would be doing "Resident Evil", The new movie will be out this year and it would be perfect to have that in hollywood since it was in Orlando last year. I would find it challenging because their is a lot within the Resident Evil universe

I'll repeat this post.

There's not gonna be a new dead space game. And the Resident Evil movie was postponed till 2015?

And do you guys think TWD will return in both a maze and terror tram? If they do then wtf. Some other property could get its time to shine. I honestly think Murdy will have to choose to either pick The Purge or TWD for Terror Tram.

And it's not an original maze, for anyone who was thinking about it being an original maze.

As much as I am on team AHS, this doesn't make me think AHS. Those costumes would be pretty easy to design.

Nothing about the hints counts out Dead Space. Also, AWIL. Boy gets bit by a werewolf and has a dream about nazi zombies and visits a hospital and then there's a train station and a porno theater and I'm probably missing some key settings even in that ridiculous list.

American Werewolf is already fully designed. Costumes may be a bit challenging with the make up, but I don't think the scenic environments would be that hard to overcome. This just screams Dead Space to me.

I want AWiL so bad though. I loved the house in Orlando and it is my favorite horror film period.

He could have changed what he was going to do since the effects he has available now may be different from what he had in 2012, or he could have revised it since then. I would hope he would. He also probably knows that the people who care about his Feb hints would know that and use it to to throw us off.

But the scenic environments wouldn't be too challenging. Dead Space does seem to fit, and if it is Dead Space I welcome it.
