HHN XXI Speculation

Thinking about games of chance...

There are many themes that that can go with a event themed on chance... These are just overall themes... the details would have to be filled in.

If you take the literal games of course you have casinos (which have been discussed)which I invision as a zombie house for some reason. Either as a ship (dead in the water or something like that) or as a vegas casino (the name possibilites are endless).

But other ideas based of dice... Pirates played dice (liars dice and Hazard) and cards cards (Lanterloo, One-and-Thirty, Marias, and Bone-Ace) primarily. Which we have never really seen a Pirate house. You could have a cursed Pirate ship. (I have a thing for ships or something?) I know POTC has explored this avenue but why should Disney have a monopoly on Pirates?

Old west is notorious for cards. (we talk about a old west house already and I think it is still largely untapped)

Prisons are places of gambling. We saw Hellgate already but not much else along the way of prisions.

How about a game show of death? Like Run! but more like a gameshow.

On the Fate side of it...

You could have a gypsy theme house (the gypsy camp in Wolfman was my favorite scene)

or a snake oil salesman who sells tinctures and salves to help you but in reality they are a curse. (see as Mr. Denton on Doomsday but twisted)

Deals with the devil, demons, death, or witches.

Honestly ANY theme can have an overlying vein of fate or chance... It's simply in the telling. That is why selling the concept of chance/gambling/ or fate is very marketable.

Or taken quite literally, as was said before, have multiple paths in a house where you choose your fate.

Goofing on the rumor of a Death personification Icon and games we all should remember that the Grim Reaper also has been know to play at games with his intended victims with their mortality as the stakes.

As depicted here from The Seventh Seal:

seventh-seal-chess.jpg

Chess, of course is hardly a game of chance, but we also should all well know from another film that Death will play other games as well....

billandteddeath.jpg

Twister-Death.jpg

...who's to say that he might not be persuaded to play a game of cards or dice rather than electronic football, Twister, Battleship or Clue? But if he beats you the results could truly be bogus!

I would LLOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE to see a pirate house by HHN, but I get the feeling that they think it's 'beneath' them.

The snake oil salesman could be cool, too...reminds me of something from BPAL...

Jaws loses Queue Buildings 2 and 3 on June 1st.

^ Really? They're already starting construction at that date? I thought you guys don't have haunted house construction until July?

Whatever the case, if we do have a casino-themed house, I hope it won't be as bad as Knott's "Viva Lost Vegas: In 3D".

It's not like they make huge use of the overflow queue. 95% of the time I've been at Universal ever since I started going to HHN that building was empty. Even on peak days like for Mardi Gras it was deserted.

we all know a&d and uni read this site.so might i suggest to them instead of riasing ticket price how bout lower them 5$but inreturn raise the price of items in the park.instead of shirts being 20 bucks raise them to 30.instaed of 10 or 15 bucks.if people want Alcoholic Drinks make them pay an arm and a leg for them. hell if u have to raise parking prices to 20 instead of 15.if they dont raise ticket prices they can make up the differance eles where, why make us fans suffer with super high ticket prices.if we keep pushing this ticket price deal THEY WILL GET THE MESSAGE hopefuly.

what would be the difference? Why lower the ticket price to raise everything else? It's easier to raise admission and keep everything else the same.

Nope, they won't.

Raising the pricing of everything other than the ticket can potentially cause a drop in revenue. People are more likely to scoff at the price of a T-Shirt or drink than the price of a ticket. If you make the stuff in the park too expensive (especially the drinks) you will drive guests away. Besides, the profits for each department of the park (Food, Merchandising, Ticketing/Operations) each go to different pots of money. They are all separate entities within the same company.

Regardless, A&D has no say in the price of the event. They are simply given a budget (approved by management) and design. The fact that they read these boards is more to gauge what are opinions are regarding the theme. Management/Universal reads the boards for a primary purpose of finding "Leaks." Any issues you have with the price of the ticket can be best addressed by either A) Mentioning it in surveys, or B ) Not spending the money to go in the first place. Until they reach the point of diminishing returns, the price will probably keep creeping up (although, I think it's close to its zero point). Passive-agressively complaining about it on a message board doesn't do any good.

You are also forgetting the variables of the Coco-Cola discount for locals and Frequent Fear Passes. The cost of a one-night "ticket" with both of these is drastically lower than its market price. I won't pay full-price for a ticket because I never have to. Most locals don't, and they are 70% of the total audience.

So, instead of raising the ticket price $5 you'd rather they raise the parking by $5...the shirts by $10...the alcohol by alot. Really? That sounds like the BS that a marketing firm would pull to make it look like they lowered prices while actually raising the cost of attending for 99% of attendees.

Think of someone who buys a frequent fear pass and lives local. To save you $5 on a single visit, they'd have to pay an additional $50 or more on parking to attend the event? Parking isn't even an option like alcohol and shirts.

Sorry, but horrible argument.

u bring up so many good points there, and i dont pay full price never have and never will.but after looking at what locals pay for ticket prices a few more bucks i could get a frequent fear pass which i will do this year.

I know its crazy how they keep pushing back the date.. That just says they get better quality every year.

I's funny I was watching Art of Scare for the 1000 the other day and TJ was saying "Construction starts late August..."

As for the Casino... It is just a theme... Or an idea. To say it is trashy is to say all vampires are Twilight.

I have to disagree with you there. Vampires can be done in many different ways, so the comparison isn't really on par at all. A casino theme can only be done in so many ways and each way I think of just seems trashy, poorly-thought out, or as a last minute though. The only way a casino type house would ever be any good would be as the dark humor house of the year.

This is my own opinion of course. wink.gif

yeah I agree, 5 bucks in the ticket is better than 10 bucks every time you buy an item, Actually, rising prices in everything inside the park could make more money but like it was said here, it could drive guests away, Im local and I always get FFP, a lot of people use the coke cans, at the same time, I don't really buy much at the park, I buy soda or food some sometimes, if they rise prices inside i would just never spend any money inside, I could see some people feeling that way, like, not spending any money due to the rise

Isnt Construction starting next month judging by those apps for house permits?

So far all we know from the permits is that they've gotten permission to begin construction. Exactly when they begin is up to them, but this month or next month is not out of the question as far as I know. Generally construction will have begun before we start to get any leaked pictures.
