Dr. Jimmy
Dr. Jimmy, how can someone be banned for posting public permit info? This person was not banned by HNN for that reason, but for numerous other reasons that it would be inappropriate to discuss in the forums.
DanielMyron
this might be off topic, but, Isn't the Devil related with Gambling and Such? the rolling of the dice? I don't know Why I think of this relation between the devil and gambling, (and cheating as well) like, maybe I saw something online, don't know but, I just have this image in my head Not that it has anything to do with your post, but that image is from the book, "Carter Beats the Devil." I won't get into the plot details, but suffice to say that it doesn't feature the REAL devil, himself. It's still a great book. I've asked the same questions about Mr. Belasco, and the consensus around here is that he's pretty reliable in a vague, mysterious way. I'm unconvinced as yet ("Let's see what comes up when we roll the dice"? Honestly? How vague can you be?!), but I guess there's plenty of time for me to be proven wrong. Daniel, If you like books about Carter, I suggest "Carter the Great" by Mike Caveny. It's a huge tome with plenty of great pictures. Mike is a magic historian, and is a fount of knowledge of Carter. I saw him give a great lecture at the Hollywood Magic Castle and had to buy the book. It is very $$$ though.

I don't know Why I think of this relation between the devil and gambling, (and cheating as well) like, maybe I saw something online, don't know but, I just have this image in my head Yes, you're absolutely right that the Devil is connected to gambling; in Puritan society as well as many other societies it was believed that God pre-determined one's destiny or fate and anyone that partook in activities that involved instances of free will (i.e. games of chance) was inciting the Devil. Guest
Speaking of gambling with one's fate, let's go back to Ancient Greek Mythology. It was the Sisters of Fate, that determined the fate of mortals. These Sisters of Fate were named, Clotho, who spun the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle, Lachesis, who measured the thread of life allotted to each person with her measuring rod, and Atropos, who was the cutter of the thread of life. Belasco's latest clue: Are you ready to play? Let's roll the dice and see what comes up. Dice is a form for gambling of chance. I don't think we should take the quote literal and think it something to do with a casino. I think it is something to determine one's fate of life or death, a 50 / 50 chance. I know this may sound crazy, but think about it... I think we could see another Greek Myth house or theme of the year with these three Sisters of Fate. Fate was a scrapped icon for some reason, but they could use the idea of a fate icon re-vamped with these sisters "re-imagined" as you would say. Cody
For codenames, it's uncertain. While certain members of A&D have leaked information in the past (sometimes rather BIG stuff) and they enjoy seeing us go for clues, other people involved are not so kind. They could just as easily put random codewords that aren't meant to mean anything. We actually only got one code word last year, being "ZAP" for Zombiegeddon. Obviously nobody could have ever guessed it. On that note, they could even make each codename an acronym or abbreviation: last year could have been LTTWE, HDOW, HAD, ZAP, HP, CAT, PEOS, and ORF. Nobody would have been able to get anything beyond possibly Legendary Truth (LT) for the first house. I think the only thing that we could reliably get are scene names, and actually getting the knowledge is hit or miss.
Legacy
I know there is a lot of suspicion of if Emeric's clues would be that, "obvious," but last year he pointed us directly the line of Shakespeare where Havoc's title came from, and went out of his way to include the word "Zed" to hint at a zombie house. So yeah, sometimes they are that obvious. It may be presumptuous, but I imagine that if Emeric wanted to hint at "Fate," he wouldn't have alluded to something that directly relates so much to gambling. Gambling only relates to Fate in that the outcome is dependant on fate, but that seems a bit too far of a stretch (at least it is for me). As much as I would love to see Fate, and even though it was implied that they could still use her, I doubt A&D would pull her out the year after they showed her to everybody at the Lounge. It kinda ruins the "surprise" of the reveal. The people who saw her or know about her would simply say, "Oh, okay. This year." I still think a gambling theme is possible, only because of the gambling connection to the number 21. I am much more inclined to believe that this clue is more related to a house. Is it obvious? Sure, but so was the "Zed" clue. We didn't know the story, but if was fairly obvious it was zombies. The code-names are codes for a reason, and unless we get something related to a previous house it do a lick of good. Catacombs codename was "SPY." It was a joke based on the visual appearance of the Plague Doctors that would lead us into speculating towards espionage, not the plague. The room names are a more accurate description of the house (Gorgon? That was obvious) but can still throw us off ("Museum Hallway" leak for Catacombs? Completely unexpected). Last year showed just how serious A&D and management have become about keeping the themes under wraps. Last year was really difficult until we started getting leaked photos. I imagine this year will be even harder. EDIT - Okay, I did some searching and found Emeric's clues from last year. Guess what! They'll all blatantly obvious. As FDR said in his First Inaugural Address: " . . . let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is Fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror." Are there any amongst us who are familiar with the works of the great Bard? I, for one, have always been fond of Julius Caesar. Specifically, Act 3, Scene I, Line 273. This Plague of ever-mutating speculation makes one yearn for the deathly quiet of a crypt or Catacombs. A haunted mansion? Sounds like the sort of thing that some might enjoy investigating. Truthfully, effective ghost-themed haunts are decidedly difficult to achieve. Done correctly, though, the results could be positively Legendary. One may be encouraged to learn that they may have one final opportunity to fly over the cuckoo's nest. Many have wondered about poor Cindy's fate. She may have been spending time with Miss Hannigan, but all will become clearer as the day unfolds. Texas may have a peculiar penchant for chainsaws, and the various Meatz may look tasty. However, those dining at the feast of Doomsday may already be dead themselves. Pardon that improperly placed zed. It may be a labour of Hercules, but one should never turn around to look for Eurydice. While many have walked the hallowed halls of horror through the years, this year's 20th Anniversary event to unveil the Best Universal has to offer. The vaguest of all of them is the Psychoscarepy "Cuckoo's Nest," but even then it's implying a return to an asylum (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). In order the clues highlight the theme, Havoc, Catacombs, Legendary Truth, Echos of Shadybrook, Orfanage, Zombiegeddon, Hades and Hallow'd Past. The LT tells us the theme and that they will be attempting new effects and Zombiegeddon tells us the location. In other words, his clues aren't necessarily hard to decipher. Once we get something like that we're really going to have something to speculate on. eww Like Legacy said we only got "ZAP" last year... mainly because someone leaked the whole friggen blueprint to ZAP. I remember hearing some others but they made no sense to me at the time. I didn't hear ZAP or see the blueprint till late July/early august. The room names I've gone back and forth on whether or not they are leaked or intentional. We didn't see those unitl the beginning of July and they were in the notes of the Permits back and forth between the various inspectors. They have to have a name to reference... I just don't know if universal realized we would comb the Permit for clues (yeah right ), it was too much hassle to give everything a code name, or they didn't mind a few bits of info getting out there. I guess we will find out this year. If they start saying "room a" or something like that, then we will know that they didn't want us to know. I'm sure they have to be able to recognize names without whipping out their decoder rings. The sad thing is though... It's already being speculated that we will see "scene 1, scene 2, etc." and if that is the case it will make the permits essntially a waste of time.
