  1. It amazes me how people bitch about people bitching! Listen, EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion, positive or negative. Just because were fans of the event doesn't mean we won't have negative things to say about it or Universal, not everyone is going to be excited about this year, some of us will love it! We want to hear what people think, good, bad, or downright ugly! Sure, it's tough to be negative about the event when none of us have experienced it yet. However it's safe to say people can be negative about things that happened up to now, from the issue of streets due to the Superstar Parade, losing the JAWS queue, the sudden loss of Sound Stage 44, collaboration with Hollywood, only 7 houses, a less than stellar reveal, and even "Street Experiences" instead of elaborate scare zone sets. If we all were happy happy about everything all the time, things would get kind of boring. I do agree though, everyone should go into this year with an open mind. I can't wait to read reviews from everyone to get the real impression on how all this will turn out! Just my 2 cents on that issue!

  2. Good point... I should have seen that. Oh well. I think the B&W and stobe will be awesome. Heck we've been saying they should do that since '09. anything coming at you in a stobe light is scary though

  3. 4 IP houses isn't really that many... not compared to 2007 or 2009. And no over-all theme? The website survey flat out told us TWD was our "event theme", BUT if you read the scarezone page on the website, it pretty much tells us that our overall theme is The Iniquitus and their legions. Whether we find out more or not, thats our backstory/theme.

  4. Best commercial since '08 hands down. Good thing we didn't get screwed by the IPs like in '09. If I had to change anything, I'd replace the voice-over at the end with the regular HHN voice. Coming from the campy and cheesy Lady Luck TV Ad last year, that's a hell of an improvement. Kudos to Uni.

  5. The commercial makes me even more excited for this year...which I didn't think was possible. I love the look on the guys face as he turns around from closing the gate and sees the all the various forms of the Dark Legions behind him. He looks like he's thinking "REALLY? You've GOT to be freaking kidding me." LOVE, love, love it...short, sweet and to the point...

  6. Guess that's not a vegan zombie then. I'd like to think we'd see a few them scattered throughout the house...Rick, Shane, maybe even Merle? A zombie version of Sofia would be pretty damn cool. I'd say it'd be neat to see Carl, but they could never use him because he wouldn't stay put, he'd keep on wandering in and out of the house.

  8. I believe the 9 million people who watched the Season 2 finale would disagree. Not only that, as a franchise the walking dead comic issue 100 was the best selling indie comic this century. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it overrated.

  9. Well last I heard... yes to the games... but will they be too late?.. IDK YW. I do have to say the troupe marabe is still on of my favorite facades to a sz though

  10. Just thought I would share a couple of interesting things of what they had at Halloween Horror Nights in 1996 at Universal Studios Florida. See any similarities here... (MAZE) (SHOW)

  14. I've been attending HHN for a while now (since 1993) and I have to admit that I've heard the "whole park is a scare zone" bit before and in my opinion, it never met the hype. I'm not against change but not at the cost of the smbience of Halloween or at the cost of good scares. My beef with HHN lately has been the "over marketing"... using icons or ideas just to sell tickets rather than focusing on the event itself. Yeah, yeah, they have to make their profit but I think we can all agree that they acheive that every year. I'm very disappointed in how things have been leaked/revealed this year but that's not to say that I don't look forward to going this year as I still very much do. Here's to hoping for some great street scares.

  15. This year's houses will be amazing, really amazing, I have no doubt, they all sound really great, WHY Are we even talking about Hollywood? how does that have to do with anything? I LOVE IP houses, they are really awesome, I for one am really happy when they do IP houses, I love them, some of my favorite houses are IP houses, Uni can recycle costumes and sets if they change the story, I don't mind that at all, it would suck if they did the exact same house 2,3 times a year, but they don't they Never have, we have never had the same exact house, we have sequels, but those are okay too

  16. 17. Um.... Orlando has had the same scarezones, houses, costumes before... they had the PsychoPath house 3 years in a row. Midway of the Bizarre was a scarezone that wasn't looked at as a "oh god, this again", but instead as an annual tradition. The point is, the reason for repeating/recycling things is to save budget.

  18. Hollywood's event isn't all bad.... Just look back at their 1992, 1997-2000 event years.... And I'll say it again... if it wasn't for their 1986 event, we probably wouldn't have seen Fright Nights in 1991.

  19. what's so bad about Hollywood? Have you been? Do you know what it's like out there? Here's the thing, I can say this with most (not all, most) people on here: You're so quick to hate on something. You run with your pitchforks in hands chasing after Universal because they do something different, or use IP's or whatever the case may be. You blame Comcast (which is the STUPIDEST thing I've ever heard) for a bad year, or blame Potter or a gaggle of other reason for it. Nobody can just GO and have fun. You people have to nitpick about EVERYTHING and you haven't even BEEN to the event yet. It's still like 25 days away and people are already saying "worst year ever." Seriously? Like... seriously? Everybody complained that they knew everything before the reveal and that was Universal's fault? WHAT? You're the one asking for more and more and more from the people who have "the inside scoop" and then you bash Universal for not delivering more than what you know? That's psychotic. I'm honestly done with this community. All you guys do is bring everybody else down. To the few of you who I know personally or met in the park and we stay in touch, please stay in touch. It's the Vault all over again and I just don't want to be associated with you guys anymore. Sorry.

  20. hahahaha. And I'm quoting you directly from the HNN facebook... "Universal dropped the ball this year! Too many IP houses from Hollywood, NO ICON, no individual atmospheric scarezones, only 7 hourses, and a aweful boring website. I smell that Comcast is behind this lackluster year!" Harvey, Harvey, Harvey, Harvey.

  21. I've said some harsh things about the website and Universal's method of revealing stuff this year, but I have to give credit where it's due. This is a damn good commercial, which I absolutely did not expect. I thought it'd cave to the IPs, but instead it actually stays true to the tagline, highlighting both original content AND IP content. As already stated somewhere above this post, best since '08. Though I find it slightly amusing that the walking dead are in a full blown sprint.

  22. I love how the media site description doesn't completely match the website description. Although we really shouldn't be surprised by any differences with anything regarding this year lol

  23. Wasn't to sure if I liked it at first because I thought "and here's the Walking Dead commercial for this year." But once it got to the part with the Dark Legions I was like "F*#@ YEAH!"

  24. An even cooler fact is the actor who played him was Gregory Nicotero. He also played the walker that bit Amy. Who is Gregory Nicotero? He's only the co-executive producer, special effects and makeup supervisor, and a director of the Walking Dead.

  25. Preferably... I would like to see a mix of both "classic" & "reimagined". Despite what some people might think about the Monsters in their "classic" form not being scary, I'd say that tell me how unscary they are after they've popped up out of nowhere from the darkness similar to the zombies in 2008's Dead Exposure (or any darkly lit house for that matter). Even the least scary looking things can provide scares. As I said though.... I want to see their classic forms, then a reimagined form...

  26. Along with the ferris wheel, san francisco chainsaws, troupe macabre in central park, & last minute maskless treaks/foons... they had carnies in NY (including one in a demented bumper car), clowns on carousel horse motorcycles. On top of this they had sideshow freak banners near animal actors with the rat lady. Along with mini stage freak show infront of animal actors with a barker. The problem was the restrictions that A&D/UNI were having to deal with thanks to NLC. Like i said above, the major kinks that affected 2007 was NLC's restrictions. There was NO "roaming" that year. The scareactors were in the normal locations- NY, Hollywood, Shrek Alley, San Francisco, & Central Park. The problem was that they weren't able to fully theme the park (.....like put the tent over it). This year will be nothing like 2007, there were only 5 SZ locations that year, this year we have 7 with possible area fillers to count as 8.

  27. I know its been discussed somewhere.. but I can't find it. May have been in the XX UMTH meetup thread. I guess it depends on what you think "worth it" is. You get into every house without waiting in line. you gets some cool knick knacks, and you get prmium seating. Its basically a guided tour of HHN so it is structured. The price does not include your ticket though so your talking about 200.00 for one night. For me, not so much I can do everything in one night myself. But it would be nice not to wait in line.

  28. Man they love Circus contraption music.. which is a plus to me. I wish I had been able to see the Circus Contraption show b4 it ended That would have been an amazing show for HHN

  30. THAT my friend would be freaking amazing. She/he is one of those classic characters that just completely creeps me out. She/he really is a monster, just not the typical kind we associate as being such. The parade building has all the makings of a mini-soundstage...with this being somewhat of a signature house for Uni. If they didn't think this building would do the concept justice, they wouldn't have placed it there. I was thinking the same thing Kathy! This is one of the few concepts that could pull off a completely B&W house devoid of all color. Norman and Mom can make an appearance, hang out, stay and have coffee even...because that would make me an equally happy camper.

  35. I dont think the website has been this bad since HHN13. Whats the deal here?!? Hollywood's website is better at this point. This is quite a shame. I guess we can hope for games but man they have really done quite a 180 from the quality we've seen the last 9 years...

  36. ^that explains why those two can be bought "together" lol... oh and according to the press release: Hopefully this is just referring to the strobes because "black/white" for the house in general will get rather boring if not executed properly. But again, I say, don't expect anything else besides the classic monsters. Everyone else has had their time to shine, unlike the Monsters.

  37. I'm vibing, too, that this is going to involve large "scare zones" that aren't clearly marked but where the scareactors know their bounds, probably with overlap to allow interplay. The first thing that came to mind, to me, was closing night last year at Seven; we basically ran amuck in the street, having the Seven zone as our boundaries but the areas around our sins the specific... jurisdictions? The park, then, would be like the zone was and the individual hordes will have their own jurisdictions much like the sins. Did that make any sense? The idea that everyone has full reign over the full park just seems to be a bit too much. Imagine, as a scareactor, trying to find your tag out when you have the ENTIRE park to search. Also, I'm sure sidewalks will still be safe. As I understand, they were off limits as a safety thing as much as they were for people to get a breather. Scaring people around the sidewalks, especially the curbs, creates a huge liability on Universal. Will it be cool? Absolutely. I'm bummed that I moved and can't be a part of it this year, as an actor or guest. Have faith in Universal, all you skeptics!

  38. I think they really need a few #hotdog eating gargoyles...I mean come on. Or they could be driving around in a #smallclowncar. From the looks of things, this house the potential to be THAT house this year...the one that ticks the boxes of what everyone is looking for in their favorite.

  40. I like how each house get's it's own flash page with pictures and descriptions. That's about all I like on the website. No sound, no music, no interactive features, no scarezones pages...I could go on and on. So basically I love the houses this year but everything else...not so much.

  42. This house is already is in my top 3 for anticipated houses this year as I was a big fan of DE in 08 and felt it was a really good house and now with the Universal Monsters and others alike as Nosferatu is not considered in that collection that we will have an excellent house if pulled off right

  46. All I know is if this doesn't end into a scarezone similar to zombiegras then im gonna be slightly jaded... Imagine "surviving" the house only to run out to an infestation of zombies!

  47. That would not be a bad thing at all. She is the only person on the show I want to smack hard. Upside the head. With a baseball bat. Everyone else has their shit together, but Lori just seems to be caught up in so much angst about everything. Hey here's an idea, if you hadn't slept with that douche bag Shane and could possibly be pregnant with his kid you might not feel like such an insufferable pain in the ass. Rick's too good for her. **End of rant** Could we have a Shane prop that we get to beat the shit out of too? He annoyed me from the very first time I saw him on screen.
    1 point
  48. Actually I would like the show more if I didn't hate most of the characters. Daryll was cool and Rick was.. but half these people I'd want to kill myself.
