HHN XXI Speculation II

Recommended Posts

To state the obvious (for those who don't seem to get it), the site has already confirmed the time-period and quite possibly the location of our casino. Look at the text on the website.

Now look at the text in this image from HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" which takes place in Prohibition-Era Atlantic City:

So, Prohibition-Era, and most likely Atlantic City. This also falls in line with the Big Band music and wooden table.

Hey guys so I'm new here but I've always been a follower of the site. So I was trying to figure out what the teaser means by "no one beats the house" and stumbled upon a website explaining about what a house of cards is and it mentions that the term was created by a poet, which i remember seeing people speculating about a poet icon and also mentions that in his era (17th century) cards were considered evil. I just wanted to throw that out there and give the possible chance of a poet icon.. here is the link http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-house-of-cards.htm

Im deff feeling a 1940s-50s feel from the teaser. The song on the page is "Luck be a lady" im pretty sure. The word luck is everywhere..i think that is a big hint for the icon. and the song..obviously

Sounds more like Joe Candullo

Lets look at all the elements:

1) An Ace of Spades: Seen with Skull and cross bones, symbolizing death

2) Queen of Spades: One eye covered, knife in hand, smirk

3) A chopped off hand: Doesnt look especially fresh but rather recent

4) The presence of smoke

5) A third card, turned over

Perhaps our fella with his hand missing may have played these cards which appeared as a bad omen. They represented his doom, death and the killer female.

With all due respect, you guys are a little off when it comes to the music. It does sound as if it was from the Big Band Era from 1930 to 1950, but is not "Luck Be A Lady". Just wanted to save you from diving to deeply down that fruitless rabbit hole.

I am still not buying a whole "casino" theme. The concepts of Luck, Fate and Chance (more so the latter two) are much more inline with where they are going with this theme.

I can also see a Dealer-type mascot, but he would just be a conduit to a greater force, the "House".

Agreed. I was thinking thinking about that as well. It would fit kind of the traditional HHN icon formula that they have had going on for the past couple of years.

How are you not buying a casino? A casino is also, many times, called a House. Thus, "The House always wins."

The music and font is pushing us out of Nevada and into New Jersey, which, during the 1920's had casinos in Atlantic City.

Sometimes a spade is a spade.

I can picture a tongue-in-cheek "Lost Vegas" style house, tonally similar to something like "Creatures!" or "Leave it to Cleaver." Come on,who wouldn't love to be menaced by zombie Elvis and zombie Wayne Newton? With eight (or maybe 9?) houses, there's room to experiment with that stuff. But the whole olde time-y rinkytink sepia toned quality of the teaser makes me think of Ghost Town, the little maze that could, and just how wonderful and effective a house and scarezone set in the old west could be. They could do something really classy here, I think.

Or maybe they'll just get lazy and the face down card will just turn out to be...a Jack.

Mississippi gambling boat?

That would tie the Mark Twain references we've up with the visual we have in the teaser?

Mae

Wow. A gambling palace that deals in souls run by demons and located on a Steamboat from Hell that churns it's way back and forth on the river Styx.

Yes, please.

I could see them recreating the feel of Ghost Town in an Atlantic City casino based in the 1920's, but the website so far has nothing to do with the Old West.

Is no one listening to the music? If they are, does no one realize that big band is NOT the Wild West?

I don't know if any of you played Bioshock, but after seeing the latest update yesterday, it has the same atmosphere / mood of the world of Bioshock (i.e. imagery, music, timeline). The theme of the event may be pulling some ideas from the Bioshock game, in my opinion.

"Those aren't the best odds" - Touche...Nice play on the topic of discussion. I see your point though. On a related note, I did notice horseshoes at the top and bottom of each card that was displayed on the main HHN page. This may be nothing, but it's a detail non-the-less.

I've spent a few hours looking at the website and it screams to me Atlantic City, early 1910s-1930s. I just don't see Vegas with this. A few things led me to believe this: 1. AD like to try to throw people a little bit. I think the minute everyone saw cards, 21, "The House", Wager, we immediately jump to a Vegas theme, but we forget that Atlantic City was the orginal official gambling spot in America. 2. Atlantic City could be much creepier than Vegas. I also think that there will be Casino house/Boardwalk house. I would be interested if someone went back and looked at the permits and it might give you clues by checking out the structural specs. But with all that being said, I feel like this could be one of the best years in the past few years. Has lots of potential. Just my thoughts.

Permits haven't given us anything, other than "Rune Room" which means that house quite possibly is not tied in with the gambling theme.

I do think the site is screaming Atlantic City (especially after the Boardwalk Empire image I found and posted), but hey... [redacted for tone]

Yeah, I immediately felt "Bioshock" as well. They might have drawn some inspiration for the look and feel off the game. I've said previously a Bioshock house would be amazing, even though I know it won't happen. I think Legacy is on the right path with the Prohibition Era boardwalk setting, however.

Great point! I was all stuck on "casino" when I really should have said "VEGAS". Again...it's all speculation but I like the idea of Atlantic City since it has quite a bit more history.

Is it just me or are there red markings on the hand? They are faint but there are definitely markings. I know...here goes the dissecting of all available pictures. I wonder which designers' hand was used as the model for the image...haha.

You mean the blood?

Okay, here's an idea.

The Ace of Spades (which is even more predominate than the queen right now) is known as the Death Card. Last year, Death was symbolized by the Caretaker... So...

Ace of Spades = Death = Caretaker

Queen of Spades = Queen of Death = ....... Cindy?....

Hey guys, I just thought of a very good idea on what the Casino/gambling house could be centered around. Last year they were saying they wanted to make new franchises for houses, like Psychoscarepy. Well what if they made a house where Legendary Truth is back, but this time theyre investigating an abandoned Casino from the 1930's where everyone was brutally murdered by one of the Black Jack dealers (Our Icon). The location could be one of the most haunted places in America and would be a perfect sequel house. Opinions?
