Look at the text on the website. Now look at the text in this image from HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" which takes place in Prohibition-Era Atlantic City: So, Prohibition-Era, and most likely Atlantic City. So I was trying to figure out what the teaser means by "no one beats the house" and stumbled upon a website explaining about what a house of cards is and it mentions that the term was created by a poet, which i remember seeing people speculating about a poet icon and also mentions that in his era (17th century) cards were considered evil. LostAlice Posted June 29, 2011 Share Posted June 29, 2011 Lets look at all the elements: 1) An Ace of Spades: Seen with Skull and cross bones, symbolizing death 2) Queen of Spades: One eye covered, knife in hand, smirk 3) A chopped off hand: Doesnt look especially fresh but rather recent 4) The presence of smoke 5) A third card, turned over Perhaps our fella with his hand missing may have played these cards which appeared as a bad omen. I am still not buying a whole "casino" theme. The concepts of Luck, Fate and Chance (more so the latter two) are much more inline with where they are going with this theme. I was thinking thinking about that as well. It would fit kind of the traditional HHN icon formula that they have had going on for the past couple of years. How are you not buying a casino? A casino is also, many times, called a House. Thus, "The House always wins." The music and font is pushing us out of Nevada and into New Jersey, which, during the 1920's had casinos in Atlantic City. Sometimes a spade is a spade. Come on,who wouldn't love to be menaced by zombie Elvis and zombie Wayne Newton? With eight (or maybe 9?) houses,there's room to experiment with that stuff. But the whole olde time-y rinkytink sepia toned quality of the teaser makes me think of Ghost Town, the little maze that could, and just how wonderful and effective a house and scarezone set in the old west could be. They could do something really classy here, I think. Or maybe they'll just get lazy and the face down card will just turn out to be...a Jack. Guest Posted June 29, 2011 Share Posted June 29, 2011 I don't know if any of you played Bioshock, but after seeing the latest update yesterday, it has the same atmosphere / mood of the world of Bioshock (i.e. imagery, music, timeline). Atlantic City could be much creepier than Vegas. I also think that there will be Casino house/Boardwalk house. I would be interested if someone went back and looked at the permits and it might give you clues by checking out the structural specs. But with all that being said, I feel like this could be one of the best years in the past few years. Has lots of potential. Just my thoughts. Permits haven't given us anything, other than "Rune Room" which means that house quite possibly is not tied in with the gambling theme. The theme of the event may be pulling some ideas from the Bioshock game, in my opinion. Yeah, I immediately felt "Bioshock" as well. They might have drawn some inspiration for the look and feel off the game. I've said previously a Bioshock house would be amazing, even though I know it won't happen. I was all stuck on "casino" when I really should have said "VEGAS". Again...it's all speculation but I like the idea of Atlantic City since it has quite a bit more history. The Ace of Spades (which is even more predominate than the queen right now) is known as the Death Card. Last year, Death was symbolized by the Caretaker... So... Last year they were saying they wanted to make new franchises for houses, like Psychoscarepy. Well what if they made a house where Legendary Truth is back, but this time theyre investigating an abandoned Casino from the 1930's where everyone was brutally murdered by one of the Black Jack dealers (Our Icon).
