The Thing House

Recommended Posts

I will start off by saying two things, one this a thread about the house and all ideas should be treated with respect. Arguing will get us nowhere. Two, this is a confirmed house, so please no complaints about how it could change.

I believe that the house is slightly misunderstood as being both a movie house and a rehash. In HHN XIX, they had a movie themed event starring wolfman, chuckle and saw. The Thing house seems like it might take the track of the Wolfman. Both a movie house and an old idea created anew. In my opinion the Wolfman was a huge success ( I enjoyed it more than the movie ) and may prove to some that the house is sometimes better than movie content. I for one will be optimistic for any house until it is proven to be a bad house. Havoc to me seemed to be the worst of house last year, and when I went through it, it became my favorite. So I am looking forward to The Thing House.

Remember, corporate doesn't necessarily let A&D do exactly what they want. They could have easily made them go back on their plans for "no movies for a few years" to promote the new film.

That said, I don't see it as a bad thing (no pun intended). Even if you didn't like the 2007 iteration doesn't mean that this one will be just a retread. The 2007 house actually felt more like Aliens to me.

The 2007 house never really felt like The Thing in my opinion, all though it was one of my favorites solely for the fact the sets were very neat. The lack of "things" was a disappointment, but I think they learned from their mistakes with that house, and I expect an awesome house this year. I'm super interested to see if they put it in the Parade building or a SS.

SS22 would be the best, the A/C in that one will freeze you out.

But on a side not, Way to go Uni, So much for ALL things past gone. I know this is based off the NEW movie due out this year but is still a repeat house. Will the other houses be re-hashes of things old?

I'm afraid I'm gonna be a little unpopular with my opinion, but hear me out.

#1- I am very excited about a house based on The Thing. First because Carpenter's film is a classic (and I'm hoping the new movie will be decent too) and, more importantly, I missed the first version of the house in 07. I have always regretted that I never got to see it and this gives me the opportunity to do so (even if it's going to be different in some ways). So my opinion is a bit skewed because of that circumstance :) Now if we could get them to revisit Dead Silence (the other house I missed and it totally breaks my heart).

#2- I've always appreciated a VARIETY of houses each year. Most original, but one or two film-based is nice to mix it up as I always enjoy the feeling of walking through scenes from my favorite horror films. Although, the event here in Hollywood has taken it too far and refuses to give us anything original  But the luxury of 8 houses allows A&D to offer a little something for everyone. I am never a fan of the "humor houses". It's not my thing. But that's ok. Because there are seven more that I will probably love.

#3- I'm glad that not every house in 2011 is going to be tied into the gambling theme. Its fine for an overall theme (it doesn't thrill me but that's just me) but if everything was casino or gambling based, well, that would severely limit the themes and houses. It would feel like too much of the same. Options are good

Ok. That's all. Cannot wait for HHN 2011!!!

I don't get all the complaints. I liked the Thing in 2007, but I admit it was flawed and I've always wanted to see them try again. I really don't mind rehashes and sequel houses, as long as they're not done year after year after year, and it's been 4 years since the last Thing house. I don't see anything wrong with taking another stab at it, especially with the movie on the way.
