  1. With Dead Waters, I would've been perfectly ok with a somewhat cheaper house than The Fallen next door to have a few more scenes (made Invasion a house instead, and just had the Chainsaw Clowns be their own official scare-zone). But it's pretty obvious they spent a lot on it, especially that gorgeous, gorgeous facade.
  2. I too was underwhelmed by DE. Thought it was the sixth best house at that year. Now, given that the top five were masterpieces IMO (yes I liked Creatures) that’s not saying much. But yeah I thought it was pretty overrated.
  3. With it being January there’s still a lot of variables up in the air obviously. The two park format, house numbers, ratio of IPs to originals—seems to be strong speculation right now of both a TRT house and an HP show. Now I love HP but I fear it will eventually ruin the more grown up atmosphere. Ditto with Stranger Things, which I also love. The main thing I ask for this year is for a sequel to a house from 21 (that wasn’t Thing). I doubt we ever see Bloodengutz again with that actor having moved on (I think).
  4. I wouldn't. Then again, they have more budget with B&T gone.
  5. I really like this idea. Could go through different genres of TV shows, sort of like the Supernatural episode "Changing Channels."
  6. Don't know if this would be too "taboo," but I think a house aboard a plane could be scary--maybe it somehow drifts into some nightmarish alternate dimension, a la Twilight Zone? The very few times I've flown, it really felt like being in an alternate dimension.
  7. In the other original content ideas thread there's a guy who had a similar idea. I'd be down for it!
  8. Ok, this will NEVER happen because #1--copyright hell and #2--very little known outside of one book, but I would be ecstatic over Roald Dahl's books getting a Scary Tales treatment--not just Willy Wonka, either: James and the Giant Peach, Witches, Matilda, Twits, BFG (not quite sure how the last one would be pulled off but whatever).
  9. I’m not sure if anyone will read this. But... I feel like they missed an opportunity with Invasion. I think it would work well as a comedy house. Basically the facade would be the aliens’ ship, and outside people in regular ‘50s business clothing would be overly enthusiastically telling you how great the aliens are. Once you board the ship it is more cheerfulness (to the point where it’s awkward/uncomfortable) but as you venture deeper you find that the aliens are secretly conducting standard “alien” experiments. And a room where you see how all the “enthusiasm” is made, as people’s brains are being taken out and brainwashed. Of course, the finale would be the aliens shooting at you to prevent you from escaping. Maybe that just sounded a lot better in my head (very rough draft), but thought it would be a good sorta dark humor house.
  10. The '80s nostalgia theme came from a convo I had on IU about my concern that It and Stranger Things would be too thematically similar ('80s horror/adventure about a group of young outsider adolescents fighting a monster). As far as Blumhouse goes, HDD was fairly profitable movie, and it appeared in Hollywood's version. And I would MUCH MUCH MUCH rather see Purge in a second Blumhouse maze than have to witness a Purge street. Thinking about how big a hit this year's originals were with the "GP" (god I hate using that term, makes me sound like an elitist a-hole), I'd like to think they were actually good by historical standards. Maybe not all timers but I'd like to think if you put them in a year from '02-'11 they hold up ok. In any event, if it gets marketing to allow for 4 originals, that's awesome. In case anyone can't tell, I REALLY want a NG house next year. LOL
  11. B/c with another Purge coming out marketing is going to want it at the event. In that case I’d rather it just be a part of another HoB. Please give us something NEW in NY!
  12. ^Either a Donner Party, Chernobyl (again might be too sensitive subject matter), or Catacombs crossover with Nightengales would be amazing. Please A&D make it happen... With a Donner Party NG house you could go through the wagons/campsite and then through the mountain pass as the wind howls, cold effects are used, and the banshees come at you. With a Catacombs crossover they could reapply the crow room from The Reaping, with flies swarming you. And of course the loud sound of coughing. Obviously I didn’t experience the original maze. But what an underutilized opportunity for a great franchise! If they ever do the classic monsters again, they should totally make an HR Bloodengutz sequel where he leads an uprising in prison and streams a marathon of classic monster movies from the prison, with the transition rooms showing him torturing guards in ways corresponding to the classic monsters—electrocution for Frankenstein, draining blood for Dracula, mummification for, well, Mummy, etc.
  13. I'd love to see an '80s nostalgia-themed HHN. Unfortunately, AHS Cult, Happy Death Day, Purge, and Conjuring are probably requirements (if they can get the rights to the latter, which I'm sure they'll try). In a second Horrors of Blumhouse, you would have HDD, Purge and the new Halloween, so since Halloween is 80s-ish, that could tie in. Not sure if it'd be something they'd dare touch. But, a Chernobyl Nightingales house would be interesting.
  14. I'm confused. Mystique, are you saying you want It? And Dan, are you saying that the rumblings indicate it might happen? I'd say I hope they don't spend too much getting the It and ST IPs to make good originals, but then again, no Bill and Ted. So they have a little room for an expanded house budget.
  15. In all honesty, as long as the were going to do a mega house and it wasn't going to be Shining, they probably shouldn't have done it at all if they wanted it to live up to its full potential. The mega house next year will probably be Stranger Things or It. Hopefully no "all seasons of AHS" house. Plus, with no Bill and Ted, they can really amp up the house/scare-zone budget.
  16. ^What was the other original being highly rated by the GP? And given that there were only four originals because Conjuring fell through, wouldn’t marketing want it back to three?
  17. ^I thought you said this house was good only to people who hadn’t seen certain previous houses (Nightingales for instance)—though yeah I love this house, and judging by how abnormally long the waits are by original house standards, a lot of others do too. Thiught you said you had only been since 25. Confused.
  18. ^Scarecrow has a simple story, but one that I love: the spirit of the land is angry about the ecological destruction caused by poor farming practices in the 1930s, and is taking the form of scarecrows made of bone and god knows what else to kill anyone who enters the grasslands. Maybe it’s just because I love Living With the Land at Epcot, but it feels like a dark version of that.
  19. Wrong section. Try some formatting, please. The first run through Scarecrow was the best run I’ve ever had of an HHN house and I went to 16 and 18. TIFWIW
  20. That's pretty much how I feel. As much as I hate Comcast's direction, and think Roddy's departure strongly impacted the event's intangibles, I certainly don't think A&D has taken a single step back when it comes to the original houses themselves. I also disagree with the OP's statement that the Shining facade sucks--the hedge maze is pretty damn iconic.
  21. ^I mainly just pretend anything after season five didn't happen. It's great that people still enjoy it, but seasons 1-5 is my favorite show. But basically, the angels are just as bad as the demons (sans Castiel).
  22. I didn't actually experience these two houses, but I got to thinking that Nightengales and Catacombs would be an interesting crossover from what I've read about them. Because the description of Nightengales said that they feasted during "wars, natural disasters, and diseases," wouldn't it make sense for them to be there during the outbreak described in the Catacombs description? It would be in New York (mainly Sting Alley) and it would actually take place during 1534 in France. The Nightengales would feast on the infected as well as on the plague doctors. Just thought this would be a cool idea. Let me know what you think.
