  1. This 1000% percent. It is extremely disappointing the way that people are viewing the addition of this house to the event. I fully respect that people have different tastes in music and The Weeknd doesn't produce their preferred flavor. On a personal level, I'm just a casual listener of his music. I think he has some good music and I've got a few of his mainstream songs in my Apple Music library, but that's the extent to it. I have yet to dig into his music videos, but I gather that he implements a lot of horror themes into them. That being said, I don't know what to expect going into this house, but I trust that Universal will provide casual guests, diehard HHN fans, and The Weeknd fans with a great house, as they usually do. The issue I have with the people who are so against this is that they clearly don't trust the creative team. I can't stand to see all the whining and bitching about something that they haven't even seen yet. Like you said, assuming it's widely revered, this house may usher in a new era of music related houses based off artists that die hard fans are more fond of. This house is going to bring in A LOT of people who have never come to the event, likely Stranger Things level of new attendees, so the house is going to have to deliver. I have full faith in Universal that they will come up with an excellent house that will surprise a lot of people. The event is only being "ruined" by a mere 10% on a house level. There will be nine other houses to enjoy (or hate based on the comments I've seen, since no one can enjoy anything it seems) plus five scare zones, two shows, and six rides that people can go on to avoid this one house. The hilarious thing to me is the people who are saying they're appalled that Universal would implement this into the event and are going to boycott this year are NO DOUBT still going to come and walk through this house. Bringing a little bit of change to the ever evolving event that is HHN every year is only good both for Universal and us as consumers. This has to be looked at with a business perspective. More people at the event means more money in Universal's pocket. More money in their pocket means more detailed houses, scare zones, shows, etc. in future years to invest in. More detailed houses, scare zones, shows, etc. means happier fans like us. What's so hard to comprehend about this? Universal is a business and they're going to rake in A LOT of cash because of this house. Why wouldn't they collaborate with this mega icon? In regards to your comment on The Weeknd's popularity and value, I looked at two posts from yesterday. The Weeknd house announcement post on HHN Orlando's Instagram sits at a little under 40K likes. The Weeknd's Instagram post of the house announcement sits at 1.6M likes. Does anything more need to be said about how HUGE this is for Universal, and, again, how it will only bring good to the event in upcoming years? The attitude people have towards this house is not warranted or necessary. The same team who are working on this house worked on Wicked Growth, Scarecrow, and *insert your favorite house here*. Quit the moaning and complaining, have some faith, and give The Weeknd house a chance before you completely dismiss it, y'all who are enraged over this.

  2. Sorry for my absence everyone, I was on vacation after opening weekend and just came home last night! I am currently compiling song tracks tagged from both on here and other sources! May need a few days to a week to catch up, but I will get it up ASAP! Sorry for the inconvenience and not being on as much! I am home now and can get to work on the music!   4. They posted it in the HHN Orlando 32nd Speculation topic. I guess because that's one of the few topics that are still getting hits. Not a big fan of the forum's closures. Sure Discord has its merits, but the type of posts I've been making for the past... years has been best done in one long post. But, that's the nature of things. And besides, I see others in the Your Nightmares thread have been using off-site documents like Google Docs for their house ideas, so maybe I'm just behind on the times. Well, I guess we have nothing else to do but wait. If you see a Jeremy7 or such on Discord, that's me.

  8. I think this year is the most fun I've ever had at the event, and I will seriously miss it! But here are my rankings. House Ranking - I'm not gonna lie, some of these houses were hard to rank! 1. Descendants of Destruction - Set design is top-notch for a Sprung Tent and features some intense scares. The bioluminescent cave finale is one of the coolest scenes I've experienced in a haunted house! The devolved humans are designed perfectly and are genuinely creepy! I love the intensity of this house and it never slows down! HHN has created something really good and I hope they consider this house for designing intense houses! I would love to see this house win HOTY, but there's another one lower on my list that I think will win. The butcher scene, bioluminescent caves, and the subway trains throughout are what seal the deal for me! I fell in love with this house and wound up doing it 10 times! 2. Bugs: Eaten Alive - It's funny, it's gross, it's BUGS! But on a serious note, the 1950s Sci-Fi theme is awesome to me! The storyline is very intriguing and quite creative in my opinion. The set design is average, but the scares are unique and the house overall is very different from a typical HHN haunted house. I'm a sucker for anything 50's aesthetic, so this one was of course gonna rank high on my list. Did this one 10 times as well! 3. Universal Monsters: Legends Collide - VERY immersive as the set design is immaculate and is much more impressive than I thought it would be. The scares are hidden extremely well in there and slowly become more intense as you go further into Mummy's tomb. Also, that triple scare was crazy! An upgrade from Bride of Frankenstein Lives. 4. Dead Man's Pier - Wow. Just, wow. This house kind of felt like Carnival Graveyard with the open floor plan style, but I think this house does it a little bit better. It's atmospheric and immersive! The house itself isn't very scary, but the set design, audio design, and overall story make up for it. Let's just say, I was seriously in shock the entire time. Just the sheer scale blew me away. The ship scene with the girl playing the violin is probably one of the coolest scenes I've experienced in an HHN house! Even though it's number 4 on my list, it's HOTY material. 5. The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare - This one genuinely shocked me! I had it at either number 9 or 10 on my hype list for the longest time, but it seriously proved me dead wrong. It's different from a typical HHN haunted house, which is cool. It can be kind of confusing if you're not familiar with The Weeknd or the music videos the house is based on. It's very strobe heavy, but it helps play into the storyline of the house! The mirror maze is trippy and can throw people off easily! The queue is probably one of the best HHN has had, due in part to the soundtrack. The sets are pretty good and the scares are pretty good as well! The frog creature scenes are probably my favorite. Would shock me if Dawn FM doesn't happen next year. 6. Halloween - I know many people have this ranked A LOT lower, but it was genuinely good! The Myers house facade halfway through was pretty impressive and the house, in general, is quite different compared to the 2014 version. There are some pretty cool scares in there and can get you REAL good if you're fixated on something else. It's Michael Myers galore, but it's still a lot of fun! The mirror maze at the end was a nice touch! 7. Hellblock Horror - I went into this thinking it was gonna be complete garbage, but it wound up being pretty good! There are so many different creatures in there and it was fun to point out creatures from the past HHNs! It was put together very quickly, but it seems Universal knew what they wanted and figured out how to create something fast. The set design is surprisingly good but feels a tad bit repetitive. The story, the scares, and the set design are all there, which makes it an awesome haunted house! 8. The Horrors of Blumhouse - This house is an upgrade from the past Horrors of Blumhouse, but my only problem with it is the location. Fast and Furious isn't the best location for a haunted house, as it seems there isn't enough space to work with. The Freaky section isn't bad. It has some pretty cool sets and creative/hidden scares. It just felt a little bit short. The Black Phone section was amazing! It's dark, long, and scary! The Grabber is a pretty cool character to come in contact with! I appreciate how the house is split into two, which makes it feel like two separate houses! 9. Fiesta De Chupacabras - The facade is insanely impressive! The set design and scares are immaculate in this, but it kind of falls flat. The characters are cool looking, but the lack of Chupacabra scares was very odd to me. The Chupacabra design is very cool and scary, but the original design they were going for is MUCH better than what we got. This house isn't bad at all in my opinion. Sure it may fall flat toward the end, but it is still a fun haunted house to walk through! 10. Spirits of the Coven - I like the story of this one! I love the prohibition era it's set in and does a great job of throwing you into that era. I always love when real history plays a role in the story of a haunted house. It starts pretty strong but evolves into a confusing mess. The first half is REALLY good, but the underground sections are kind of dull and confusing. It's surprisingly long for being in Soundstage 22. The witch queen at the end is pretty cool, but this house suffers due to the latter half of it. Again, this house isn't bad for me at all! It's still fun to walk through and offers an interesting experience! Scarezones - It was pretty hard to rank the zones this year! They're all really strong! 1. Sweet Revenge - The whole 1950's theme is what sold it to me. The 1950s music and costumes were crazy cool! The soundtrack is amazing as well. Just the whole vibe of this zone is crazy cool. 2. Scarecrow: Cursed Soil - It seems like the Central Park zones are getting better and better every year! So many different characters in this zone. The farmhouse alone is impressive and just the immersive feel of this zone is incredible! 3. Horrors of Halloween - What a cool zone to walk through first! Offers a sneak peek into this year's event and helps set the mood and overall theme of this year's event! Seeing the Pumpkin Lord and the neon sign again was awesome. 4. Conjure The Dark - This one surprised me! Kind of expected all the characters to be similar to each other, but they are vastly different. The soundtrack is amazing and the little stage show is cool! 5. Graveyard: Deadly Unrest - It has some really interesting characters and set pieces! A very atmospheric zone, it's kind of quiet and almost gives off a sad vibe. Overall, a really good zone! Shows 1. Ghoulish! A Halloween Tale - Of course, it's not as good as Marathon of Mayhem, but it was still a lot of fun! The soundtrack and visuals are amazing! 2. Halloween Nightmare Fuel Wildfire - It's very similar to last year's show, but it's still fun to watch. Overall, this year is amazing! I thought it was going to be hard for Universal to beat HHN 30, but they beat it! The houses and scarezones are very strong this year and are very different from each other! I loved the traditional Halloween theme and will seriously miss this year's event. Thank you to Universal for putting on an amazing year!

Time Terror Wolfstock - Turn out, tune in, and drop out…just don’t forget you may find some groovy ghoulies turning the mud pit into a monster mash. You happen upon a music festival in Wolves’ Hollow, Texas. The lineup isn’t quite Woodstock, but an up-and-coming psychedelic rock group, Bad Moon Rising, makes you pull over and sit a spell. Lost in plaintive howls and mind-blowing guitar solos, you hardly realize that night has fallen over the desert. The crowd of sexy hippies and the band on stage transform into beasts, and all seems like a bad trip…until a lost soul like you gets his arm chopped off. Now, it’s feeding time, and the tourists are supper. Soundtrack: Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival Help! - The Beatles Summer in the City - The Lovin’ Spoonful Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf For What It’s Worth - Buffalo Springfield The Director: First Cut - After months of rehearsals and solo table reads, Paulo Ravinsky is ready to make his American debut… as the director. You’ve initially heard the rumors about a suspicious character lurking in the East Village. Then, you found a name: Paulo Ravinsky, a film student on foreign exchange. Chief made your case top priority, so when you get an address, you leave without a word, confident you don’t need to back up to subdue some malnourished, deluded creep from Yugoslavia or wherever. But ahead of you is a blackout. The street is filled with kids openings hydrants, people looting ATMs and shops, and savage, bloody beatdowns taking place. The apartment building Paulo lives in is void of human life, either due to the rioting, or one of the rickety elevators that you take up. The way to Paulo is ominously dark and you finally find him, you see the blackout end and the true darkness unleashed. Soundtrack: Paranoid - Black Sabbath Night of the Living Dead - Misfits Cherry Bomb - The Runaways Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield Psycho Killer - Talking Heads Teen Dancerama - Every teenager in Wyandot County, Ohio, wants to be on WKNB’s Teen Dancerama. It’s all good, wholesome, clean fun - nothing like D&D, heavy metal, or those nasty horror films the station used to air. The host, Lance Kaye, is warm…and very familiar. The current rash of youth crimes can’t possibly be related. But, all too late, the adult residents of Carey find themselves enraptured in horror, unable to leave their dens, as their children wreak havoc and take no prisoners in an attempt to build their own teenage wasteland. Soundtrack: Hangin’ Tough - New Kids on the Block On Our Own - Bobby Brown The Killing Moon - Echo & the Bunnymen Bad Boys - Wham! I Think We’re Alone Now - Tiffany Base - It’s hot, it’s edgy, it’s radical! It’s totally extreme, in-your-face, it’s got attitude! It’s Base! The newest energy drink is Base, a neon green delicacy known for its sugary sweet lemon-lime flavor and the energy boosts it provides, far beyond that of Jolt and Josta. In fact, health risks are disregarded as sports teams and athletes worldwide fight to be sponsored by Base. Musicians appear in countless advertisements. But the Olympics brings horrific things to light. Team members turn on each other in competitive rage. Orgies (clothed writhing, to keep it PG-13) nearly break out on the field. Confessions of doping are shouted to the heavens. Outside the arena, in the streets of America, everyone begins fulfilling their basest instincts, all self-control lost. Anarchy reigns throughout the world as uninfected grunge rockers, gangster rappers and other corporate rebels hide in a outwardly abandoned mansion…until a massive horde of very infected and very avid fans find them. Travel through the mansion’s halls as you witness the ultimate meet-and-greet gone horribly wrong. Soundtrack: Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana Guilty Conscience - Eminem ft. Dr. Dre Boys & Girls - Blur (You Drive Me) Crazy (The Stop! Remix) - Britney Spears When the Lights Go Out - Five RUN! - The reality TV offering du jour is Run!, a show where D-list celebrities go on grand scale scavenger cities in world cities with ridiculous time limits. This evening’s edition is a bit more…cramped. A new host named Eddie has replaced the ubiquitous overgelled pretty boy, and the hunt is on in a warehouse. The difference is that Eddie’s releasing the hounds…and his ire. Pooki, India Tilton, Davy Dave, Damon Fowl, and Lila Frank have one objective…when the entitled scavengers become the hunted, Run! becomes RUN! Soundtrack: Everywhere I Go - Hollywood Undead Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz Kill You - Eminem Waidmanns Heil - Rammstein Lapdance - N.E.R.D.

  10. ICE NINE KILLS 2: Welcome to HorrorWood Are you misunderstood? Are you more bad than good? Welcome to HorrorWood, where anyone would kill for a callback. LA Police are on the lookout for Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas, who is suspected of murdering his girlfriend in cold blood. Found at the scene of the crime was a mask and a CD, hand-labelled Welcome to HorrorWood, containing audio reminiscent of several horror movies. Investigators believe the disk to contain hints to other murders Charnas has potentially committed, with the film of reference being a reference to how the victims were murdered. Those with weak stomachs are advised to tune out now, as the murder scenes can and will be gristly. I have seen less of these movies than I did the first Silver Screams album, so a lot of these are probably rather inaccurate. As with my first INK house idea, a lot of the characters will be captain ersatz'd with legally distinct variations, and the IX will be hidden throughout scenes. ROOMS: Facade: A live recreation of the Horrorwood album cover. As guests walk up to the street, the hills of "Horrorwood" visible as a giant matte painting, the music plays previous Ice Nine Kills songs, and alternative versions of songs from WtH (Orchestral and Aucoustic). However, between the two buildings the audio switches to a loop of Opening Night. Opening Night: Guests enter a building and find a homicide detective puzzling over a theory wall, images of grotesque movie scenes, photos of band members, and a few easter egg photos connected by pin and string. as guests get to the end of a hall, an image drops and a killer wearing an INK mask (the one with the roman numeral IX over the eyes) stabs at guests with an icepick. Welcome to Horrorwood: Guests enter a room whose walls are decorated with portraits of film directors, horror memorabilia, and masks. Spencer's silhouette can be seen in a room over, as he writes the songs, before getting frustrated and picking up an ice pick and leaving. In the next room, with walls covered in sheets of lyrics, music, and music video scripts, is a woman's body, stabbed to death numerous times. Charnas will emerge from a wall with a pick. Leaving through a curtained door, guests find police investigating the house. One will emerge from the bushes, holding the INK mask in front of his face, in reference to Officer Dewey providing a similar fakeout in Scream. A Rash Decision: From a Beverly Hills home to a log cabin bathroom, guests walk past a sink covered in blood and a two-way mirror with a woman with a horrible rash on her face picking off her skin. In the next scene, necrotized rash victims are on the floor (and... almost anything else but the main body is like, on the floors or furniture), and a man shoots his friend, a puppet of a guy practically melting into the corner, which shoots "blood" as the shotgun "fires". Another rash victim will rush guests into the next room, scratches on her arm revealing bone. As guests exit the cabin, they find a woman, still alive, fallen to pieces, a dog eating her lower torso. She reaches for the guests with her one good arm, and the man with a shotgun emerges from the other side, his lower jaw falling off from rash. Assault and Batteries: In a city apartment, guests pass by a human-sized INK Doll box, which contains a homicidal Charnas Doll. The doll will break through the box, stabbing at guests. In the living room, guests see a corpse of a woman, her neck on the tracks of a toy train, and a son holding her head, smiling evily. Charny will attack guests with an axe. Leaving the apartment, guests find themselves in the ruins of a toy store. Surrounding them are walls of INK Doll boxes, some containing dolls and others containing scaracters. As lightning crashes outside, a horde of Charny dolls on a cart will charge forward while guests enter the next scene. The Shower Scene: In the next scene, Spencer greets guests at the office of a motel. The walls are covered with taxidermy and paintings of Norma Bates, and everything is black and white. From one of the Norma paintings, eyes can be seen peering from the painting's eyes. Then guests find themselves in the Bates house attic, where a lighting fixture swings, making it appear that the corpse of Norma is laughing at guests. Finally, guests find themselves walking through a shower. On the curtain, guests can see a shadow approach, and Spencer, dressed like Norma, attacks guests with a knife. Funeral Derangements: Guests find themselves leaving the Bates Motel on a dark highway. A semi truck will light up, blaring its horn, and drive towards guests. Then guests enter a pet "semetery", where Spencer is waist-deep in a grave, digging into the dirt with a pickaxe. From behind a crude tombstone, a feral cat animatronic lunges at guests. Entering the next room, guests see a procession of children in animal masks, and a zombie child stabbing an adult. One of the masked children will attack the guests. Rainy Day: Guests find themselves in the lobby of the LAPD office, except the building has been trashed and the lights are flickering. A pair of double doors is barricaded by a board through the handles, yet the zombies on the other side have nearly broken their way through. Guests go past the desk into a lab, where Jill fires a pistol at several zombies that have broken through an observation window. A licker-esque zombie will lunge at guests from behind a cabinet, and guests find themselves in a room full of mutating corpses. On a catwalk above the corpses, Wesker strangles Chris with his tentacles. From behind a terminal on the other side of the room, a Nemesis will lunge out. Hip to be Scared: Guests find themselves in a bedroom where someone was filming snuff porn. Two women are laid out on a bed, or more accurately, their body parts are scattered on the bloodied sheets, and the bonewhite walls are splattered with blood and gore. Spencer, playing the role of Patrick Bateman, will emerge from a closet, swinging an axe at guests. Then guests find themselves in Paul's apartment newspaper lining the floor. As they walk around the doped-up Paul's chair, Spencer approaches him from behind, wearing a bloodstained rain jacket. "HEY PAUL!" As the axe swings, Paul doubles over, and "blood" sprays on guests. Exiting the living room, guests find themselves in a room full of hanging drycleaned suits and seranwrapped corpses. As they push their way to the exit, Spencer, wearing nothing above the waist and probably nothing below the belt (the scaracter is probably wearing pants but his lower body is covered by the bannister), shouts at guests before dropping a chainsaw onto guests. The chainsaw is on a cord, and will stop above guests, before being reeled back to the Spencer scaracter's reach. And it's probably a fake chainsaw, what with the gas fumes a real saw would have. Take Your Pick: Guests find themselves passing the front office of the Hanniger Mines. On the side wall, "SOON HEARTS WILL BE BROKEN AND THE DAMAGE SEVERE/YOU'LL FALL HEADLESS OVER HEELS ONCE THE 14TH IS HERE" is written in blood, lit with UV lights, and a heart rests in a box of chocolates. Hanging through the window is a victim of Harry Warden, who will come alive and reach out to guests, begging for help. From behind the bushes, however, Harry Warden will attack. Guests then enter a cave where a party was abandoned, littered with solo cups, beer cans, and other rager party detritus, and on the wall is another poem, "ROSES ARE RED AND VIOLETS ARE TOO/THEY'LL NEED YOUR DENTAL RECORDS TO IDENTIFY YOU". Through a door, guests can see a Harry dummy, but from another door emerges a man whose face has been fractured by Warden's pickaxe. Warden will emerge from behind the victim and pull him back. Then, in the mine showers, Guests see a woman impaled on a shower faucet, the shower head still running. As guests exit the showers, Harry Warden shoots at them with a nail gun. The Box: Guests find themselves in a burning church, a glowing opened Lament Configuration, Pinhead behind the pulpit with nails in his palms. Exiting the room, guests witness Butterball flaying a victim pulled taut with chains. Rushing from a wall covered in flesh, Spencer rushes at guests, peeling the skin off his head. Guests then find themselves in Hell, surrounded by chains, spiraling pillars of flesh and gore, and overlooked by (a matte painting of) The Leviathan. From behind the pillars, Pinhead will attack with a bloodied hook. F.L.Y.: Guests find themselves in a trashed laboratory, two telepods flashing. From behind a messy counter, a mutated Spencer emerges, wearing a labcoat, dripping green slobber from his mouth, his skin oddly colored and warty. Then guests enter a room and find a man, skin dissolved by acid dripping from above, screaming in agony. As he begs guests for help, a further mutated Charnasfly pops down from the ceiling. Back in the lab, Charasfly has started to merge with his machinery, the puppet screaming and writhing in pain. At times, a giant, grotesque mutant fly limb will reach out and try to grab guests. Würst Vacation: Guests emerge from the lab, into a German gentleman's club. A woman auctions off guests to enthusiastic bidders, with one "claiming" his reward at the end of the scene. Guests then find a man slicing open a victim on a table, butchering him for meat. The victim begs for help, but the victim shuts him up, humming along to the song. The guests then find themselves in a room full of hanging corpses, and two living victims. A torturer takes a drill to one, and another prepares to slice into the other victim, but instead turns their knife to the guests. Ex-Mørtis: The scene turns to the den from the Evil Dead cabin. From the windows, guests can see Deadite Linda dancing, and Henrietta will bang on the cellar door, demanding release. This distracts guests while Cheryl and Scott attack from behind the furniture. Going through the door, guests find themselves in the kitchen, where Spencer/Ash cuts his arm off with a chainsaw, splattering guests with water. Guests then proceed down a hallway of dirt into a cellar, where Henrietta has transformed into a grotesque monstrosity. From behind a bookshelf, a Deadite Ash will attack guests with his chainsaw. Farewell II Flesh: Guests find themselves in a dimly lit bathroom covered in blood, with the image of the Candyman flashing in the cracked mirror. Suddenly the mirror opens along the middle, and Candyman's hook swipes at guests. The next room is pitch-black, but buzzing accompanies the music and shots of air make it feel like bees are attacking. The walls, as dark as it is, are waxy golden honeycombs coated with amber slime. Guests then find themselves in a burning room, the only way out through the mouth of a mural of Candyman. However, from the fire, Candyman emerges to take a final swipe at guests. Finale: Guests pass by a police lineup of Charasfly, Spencer Bates, Ash Spencer, and Harry Warden, with a Spencer wearing the Silence mask in the middle and closest to the glass. Opening Night loops once again. At the exit, Charny and Spencer Bateman attack guests with a knife and an axe, respectivly. Can you guess which of these movies I haven't seen and relied on TV Tropes for ideas? There's like... 9 oh god, I bs'd 9 segments in an ice nine kills house

  11. Speaking of eras, am I the only one who wants a Woodstock themed with werewolves as a comedy zone? I know it sounds ridiculous, but if that idea were to happen, then it would be called “Wolfstock,” and it actually has a nice flow to it when you pronounce it. We could have scareactors playing as musicians who performed at the festival in 69 like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin in a werewolf form.

  12. I created an account just to post here. I have to give props to you guys, and I hope some of you can give some feedback on my ideas. Time Terrors pt. 1 ICON: Lord of Time - an ambiguous figure, the Lord of Time has come to Universal with a message. In order to teach us a lesson, the Lord has unleashed ten houses representing the folly of man throughout time. A church built on sin, where the parish can fulfill their demented desires... but if you choose to stay around for the rituals, beware the agents of Satan! Will you and your friends avoid one last caress, or will your skulls be his? Halloween Bedtime Gory: Enter a twisted world where fairytales and horror stories collide!   14. I'm curious how they will handle the remainder of the announcements this year. In early/mid-August of last year, Universal uploaded a singular, less than one minute YouTube video, see below, announcing the five scare zones, remaining five original houses (Icons got its own reveal on 8/5/2021), and two shows (Nightmare Fuel and MoM weren't titled, there was just a statement that there'd be two shows). The merch and food & drinks didn't receive announcements at all last year. Universal did put up a video of a walkthrough of the tribute store in late August that showed merch on the shelves, but it wasn't an announcement. The food & drink menus were being displayed on the tent and bar fronts a few weeks before the event began, but again, there wasn't a formal announcement. 2018 is personally my favorite year, not only because it was a tremendous event with some of the best houses Universal's ever put up, but the way Universal built to it. We got our first announcement which was Stranger Things, accompanied by an epic trailer, more than five months before opening night. Then we got the Dead Exposure: Patient Zero trailer and announcement later in April, followed by Trick r' Treat in mid-May. The remainder of the announcements were spread out through August fairly evenly. Almost each announcement was on a Thursday and was associated with a trailer and blog post that provided details on what would be within the house, and it made it feel more special. The scare zones got their own blog post, as well as the food & drinks and merch. To top it all off, we got the below hour long video about a month before opening night of the Horror Nights team discussing the years event. This year, just like last, is going to be dominated by originals, so it is odd that Universal is treating them as throwaways in their announcements. The title of the video below doesn't even let the viewer know it is an announcement. Going back to a few years ago where each house and the scare zones would get their own announcements, it made everything feel more important and bigger. Uploading a video announcing so much stuff, and not even stating its an announcement makes me scratch my head. Hopefully Universal gives the originals, scare zones, shows, food & drinks, and merch their own announcements that lend more to years in the past in the coming weeks, but I fear we will see something like the below.

  15. The song remains the same. Honestly, there has always been gatekeepers and toxicity in the Horror Nights community. I'm not proud to say that I was at some point a HHN snob myself. Thankfully, I grew up and realized everybody enjoys things for different reasons. I, personally, don't see how the house will jive with the event but it really doesn't matter. Maybe it will maybe it won't. Everyone has their "dud" house that varies from person to person. I will go in, at least, once. If I don't like it, I won't do it again. Simple. No need to get upset. The point is the event is strong. Always has been. I left it for several years to see what else was out there. Other haunts have their strong points, but nothing has really captured the scale and feel of HHN for me. Now that my kid can go (she loved it last year) we nixed the others and are just doing this one. A little bummed that it looks like Stranger Things won't be a house (as that is my kids super fandom). But most of the originals seem on point and I'm sure it will be a great time.

  16. As someone who loves HHN like you and have my own collective taste in music, this is a very well and beautifully done rant that made me shed a tear and smile. The heavy use of gatekeeping caused a negative impact in rock and metal so horribly that it’s everywhere unlike pop, R&B, country and Rap/Hip-Hop. The reason the cliché “Rock Is Dead” statement is so overused for years is because of the labels, the media, the current state of commercial radio; the dividedness over politics, values, and class, and the snobby douchebag fans themselves who don’t know how to behave and be politically neutral - NOT the bands.

Another Easter Egg was recently added at the Tribute Store that is possibly as reference to Cruse of Dracula based on the dates mentioned. 1885 was the year Harker traveled to Dracula in the 1958 Christopher Lee version, and it sounds like he purchased a theater too. 1979 is the Frank Langella version, and 82 is the Vincent Price version respectively.

  19. I'm not against the idea of a haunted house based off of Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss, unlikely as it is. It'd just take a lot of effort to transition the cartoon characters and environments to a 3D stage, especially since one of the shows hasn't gotten a season out yet. I'd probably have either houses' entrance be a building, IMP headquarters for Helluva Boss or Happy/Hazbin Hotel for... yeah. Both houses would explore Hell outside of their respective buildings, although Boss would also feature some of the hit jobs on the mortal realm. And it'd also be unlikely that they would share a house, because technically the shows have different owners with Hotel being picked up by a channel. I haven't seen enough of the series to plan a house for either.

  20. The next one I’m doing is an original concept comedy house that sets in Universal Orlando’s office building where the HHN creative team probably works at. The idea is their rejected/scrapped ideas comes to life and caused mayhem for not getting their due. I think we really need a house that truly breaks the fourth wall like we had with Icons last year and The Hallow’d Past in 20. Don’t wanna say too much about it right now cause I came up with some very good ideas that could surprise you.

  21. Here is it! My second fanmade dream HHN house Inspired by NIN’s The Downward Spiral that is also based on my interpretation of the album. After listening to the Spiral again, It made me realize how challenging it’d be to make a house of it not just because of the heavy topics such as mental illness and substance abuse (unless they add a disclaimer), but also how unsure I am what would Trent Reznor feel about it, since he’s pretty forward-thinking when it comes to music and the Spiral still might be very personal to him now. But this is just something I wanna do for the fun of it like the last one I did. Enjoy! Nine Inch Nails: The Downward Spiral Description: Go on a decline and follow the life and times of Mr. Self Destruct from the classic 1994 concept album by the Grammy Award-Winning and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Nine Inch Nails. When you go deeper in the spiral, there’s no chance of turning back. Facade: You enter a maze of outer and inner covers of the album artwork, including the iconic “Wound” front cover, and the “Future Echos” with blood-stained feathers on the floor. The actual facade of the house is a dead, rotten brain with an the iconic band logo tattooed above on the middle while on the left and right sides are the shell spirals, spinning around slowly, as you enter the mind and world of the album’s protagonist. Mr. Self Destruct: The spiral starts with the home of the protagonist, starting to feel so depressed with a hint of anger in his living room on a couch while watching TV of muted live performances of NIN with drugs and porn magazines on the table, and posters of industrial bands other than NIN such as Ministry and Stabbing Westward on the walls. The protagonist is a rivethead, as a reference to the band’s music scene. It may look like he was in a good place, but isn’t. As you leave the living room, you enter the short hallway of doors where the protagonist yells at you, telling you to leave him alone and he is so destructive with death threats, raising his left or right arm up and holding a large-sized injection needle, as a reference to his struggles with substance abuse. Piggy: I think this is Trent Reznor’s take of a break-up song, so I’m picturing the next room to be the living room that is the home of the “Piggy” who is the protagonist’s ex-girlfriend with pig sounds as a background other than the song itself. Like the main character, she’s also a rivethead with posters of industrial bands and logos in this scene. The only difference is she’s a hybrid of both human and pig. You see the protagonist arguing with his ex-girlfriend over their relationship. You walked through the small hallway of doors again where the “Piggy” pops up for a scare, yelling at you with profanity and saying things like “Piss off, jackass,” “Fuck you,” and “Go to Hell, Asshole! We’re done!” On the other side of the small hallway, the protagonist fires back at the “Piggy” for another scare as a response to his ex-girlfriend by saying “Well, fuck you too, and I don’t care about you anymore cause you can’t stop me!” Heresy: The next room is where the protagonist began to lose his faith and rejects at a fictional religious venue, vandalizing fictional religious status and symbols in a very blasphemous way with the lyrical chorus of the song graffitied on the walls. A couple of more scareactors as the main character are in their hiding spots to pop up in front of the guests to scare, yelling at them by saying “I don’t need faith, and I’m better off without it!” and “Don’t want it, don’t need it anymore,” holding a broken off statue head with small cracks in his grip. Realistically, I could see Universal go with a more fictional religion than actual ones cause if they did, then it would cause some stir from local communities. But still retain the purpose of the album’s story and theme. March of The Pigs: The next won’t feature the protagonist, but it is about his negative view of society and humanity in everyday life. The people are the human pig hybrids like the main character’s ex-girlfriend at an urban town street with walkways. Some of the “pigs” will pop up to scare the guests. One is a violent butcher who works at a local butcher shop, one is a cop with a taser on his left or right hand who pops out of the alley, then another is an angry driver in his/her car, yelling at the guests to “Piss off and get out of the way.” But there are more “pigs” in this room before you enter the next. A barber also jumps out who is equally violent as the butcher, a bartender sprays some beer (which is actually water) at you, and a homeless person from another side of the alley jumps out with a knife and yells at them to “Get off his property.” You’ll also hear the pig sounds in the background other than the song itself. Closer: To casual listeners, this song is about sex, but it’s actually more than that. It’s also related to depression and the desire for sex, so he could feel better despite his rough sayings and personal problems. You enter a strip club where the protagonist enjoys his moment with a young and beautiful female stripper on stage dancing. The main character tells her how much he wants to make love with her to fix his mental health problems in the same talking point of the song. Then you enter the changing room where both female and male scareactors as ugly-looking strippers pop out of the curtains to scare guests, saying “See my world and love me like an animal!” and “Feel me from the inside!” Ruiner: The next room is inside the protagonist’s brain where a more sinister-looking cell character - whose name is the Ruiner - messes around with the main character’s mind, as you then next walk through the blood vessels of the organ that were ripped in holes where the Ruiner and the devilish cells pop out to scare the guests. The room extends with the protagonist in his bedroom, laying on his bed and notices his conditions has gotten worse than expected, as he shakes his body and struggling in a weird way, and screaming at the same time like a cry for help. The Becoming: The protagonist is losing his old-self and all of his bests, as the new self is starting to become the worst of himself. The walls of his bedroom were punch through in holes and graffitied words that saids “Both humanity and society sucks!! I hate you all!”, and his furniture were also destroyed by him. The main character sits on his broken bed with a dull and emotionless yet anger-looking face of expression. You walk through another small hallway of doors that were also vandalized where the protagonist pops up for a scare, yelling at them “that they all suck” and they should “go fuck themselves” while holding either a kitchen knife or an injection needle to attack. I Do Not Want This: This song sounds a lot like if someone trying is to help the main character, but he doesn’t need it. So, he got me thinking if he was at a asylum/mental hospital. The next room is a therapy room where the psychiatrist speaks to the protagonist about his behavior, trying to help him recover. The main character was strapped on the couch, hating all the things he said and trying to ignore him. As the room extends, the protagonist managed to break through, beating and torturing his doctor while yelling he doesn’t need any help nor doesn’t he want a treatment. He also destroyed the office furniture and desk with the title of the song on the front wall for guests to see. Big Man With Gun: The protagonist lets out his insanity even more, and all hell breaks loose, as the main character pulls a Jack by releasing the patients from their cells and cause carnage in order to escape. You walkthrough a damaged hospital hallway with patients popping out with sharp medical instruments to scare the guests. You then enter the activity room where the patients are trashing it down with corpses of nurses and orderlies. The protagonist pops out on the other side of the room, toying with a pistol, shooting wildly, and screams “Me and my big fucking gun!” with mad laughter. A Warm Place: You’re back in the protagonist’s living room. He trashed everything except his couch and table with drugs and porn magazines atop. You see him lying on a couch, trying to relax, and stay calm, and feel better with odd facial expressions as a hint of more insanity to come. You’d think it’s over, but it’s not. Eraser: The first part of the room is a dream scene where he’s back at the strip club, while talking dirty to the young and beautiful female stripper after her performance, as a bigger, fatter, and uglier female stripper pops up for a scare to reference the calm lyrics of the song before you get to the heavier part, then it extends to a bloody splattered room where the protagonist harms himself so horribly that he was coated with blood, scars, and scratches and screams in front of the guests to do what ever they want with him and kill him. Reptile: The next scene is a dark shady alley where you meet a prositute that is hybrid of both human and lizard, asking to take her for love. The alley gets darker and darker, as you witness the “Reptile” again pop up for the scare along with the protagonist, as she was roughly dragged by him. He was in a very delusional state, thinking she cheated him but wasn’t. The Downward Spiral: The protagonist hits the lowest of the spiral where he’s back at his home in the living room, harming himself even more, as it extends to his destroyed bedroom where the Ruiner from the brain is making the main character to kill himself with a pistol, but keeps failing while the protagonist prevents himself many times as he could. Hurt: His destroyed home has become a complete mess. Everything is filled with dirt, mud, blood, and shit with corpses of other characters the main character had seen and met from previous scenes of the house as a reflection of his life. It’s nothing but an empire of dirt like one of the lines from this song. He’s sitting on a couch with a gun wound on his stomach, letting himself die with no help, as you get one last scare from a rivethead devil with a chainsaw who is about to take the protagonist to hell. This character is a reference to the final line on the chorus of “Heresy,” as it extends to a shell spiral, spinning around quickly.

From what I’m hearing, a staggered operations are taking place at The Simpsons Ride (which will be on the chopping blocks soon) like what Back To The Future had before the closure and replacement. Looks like that attraction might be leaving sooner than what I’m expecting, since it had seen better days, but it’d crazy if they gut everything in there for an eleventh house even though that’s not very realistic.   32. Here are some of my advices to those who want to write their own house ideas: Don’t worry about trying to make everything accurate if you’re doing adaptations. Just go with much of the basics, and do your own thing. I also think doing something you’re very familiar with the most is good start to brainstorm. Whether if it’s a movie, a TV show, a book/novel, or even a zone from previous years of HHN. For me, I don’t take easy calls so much cause I like to see how much I could break the cliches other than embracing the tropes in horror. If you wanna do a Scary Tales type of house inspired by a certain fairy tale/public domain story, just do your own retelling of the story without taking any Disney inspirations unless It’s necessary as an afterthought while thinking what makes the characters from it scary and terrifying.

There's another IP that might have been dropped in Hollywood but not in Orlando. Everything's a little muddy right now, so it's hard to tell what's truly going on.

  41. Right now, it looks like KidZone is just getting a re-theme. Some are speculating Dreamworks or Illumination and it appears to be just a temporary fix until Epic Universe opens up in 2025. ET, KidZone Pizza, Animal Actors, and Spongebob Storepants are going to remain open for the time being. People are thinking this re-theme could open by 2024 to fit into the "one new attraction per year" plan Comcast set in place years ago, but if it's just a re-theme, why would it take that long to do it? I think Covid screwed up their plan, so who knows if they're actually following it now.

  44. Supposedly, ST was never planned for this year. I'm sure it was discussed during the very early development process, but that would be as far as it would get. They loved both ST houses in Orlando but weren't fans of Hollywood's renditions. Netflix loved Orlando's Hill House, but not Hollywood's. Hollywood might be pushing Netflix away, but I honestly don't know. No idea what's going on with Netflix and Universal.

  47. Had a good time at the Studios for the event as a one night trip in Orlando, and I’m now back at home to show you guys my overall review of HHN31. Houses Dead Man’s Pier: This is easily my house of the year! The set and layout designs were jaw-dropping, the intro scene has a really good dark ride vibe, and the telegraphed scares are excellent despite being the most silent house. It’s more than a “GOAT” - It’s a “BOAT GOAT.” Descendants: I knew this house has the best scares overall, and I knew I was right about it. But the sets and darkness were surprisingly even better than I thought, and the tilting effect inside the subway train is awesome!! Halloween: I’m pretty sure most of y’all will say “Oh, it’s Michael Myers. That guy again. Been there and done it already.” But not me cause they were lots of good scares and great pieces filled with the iconic and nostalgic score. There were a handful of weird minor choices, but really good overall. Weeknd: Finally! A good music based house in Orlando!! It has a fun party vibe and wacky visuals, and some which are probably not in his music videos but were a good fit that made me feel like I was in it. I was very impressed with the scareactors being on point both creatively and genuinely. If he paves the waves for acts to have their own houses in the future, then I wanna thank him so much greatly. Chupacabras: Though I wish the puppets were scarier and less cartoony, the sets and effects were done very well, and it’s even more enjoyable to see the people scares than the Chupacabras. Unlike some of the other puppet-driven houses such as American Werewolf In London, this one has a very limited articulation. Bugs: I downright love the aesthetic of the house at the beginning that is delivered so well. It gave me the Leave It To Cleaver vibes but in a completely different theme, and it even made me feel like I was in a B-Rated movie. The victim characters who were “eaten alive” are so freaky. I just wish the ending of this house was better so that it doesn't make me say “Oh, I guess it’s over” again with some more big bug scares. Legends Collide: Though the sets are great, and some of the scares are also great. But for a house that is super long, it seems to be dragged by a lot of guests. I’m just disappointed with the unequal balance of the monsters’ appearance that revolves around the Mummy way too much. Despite a couple of very noticeable flaws, it’s good. Blumhouse: The sets weren’t bad; it’s just weird with unimpressive mediocre scares. But at least the Black Phone scareactors did their best. It’s way too clunky for me to like it than I am supposed to, and I don’t think we need another compilation of two IP’s under the Blumhouse name when some coulda been a more full fledged house. Hellblock: The sets are repetitive, but there are a few interesting pieces. The “jail” aspect of the house works well despite my disappointment with the facade, since it sells the idea of entering a penitentiary and it’s overall the most retro house. Spirits of the Coven: This is my bottom of the barrel that disappointedly failed to meet my expectations. The entire energy felt so slow and low with too many loose scares, bad triggers, and way too confusing for a 1920’s bar with a hook and Witches making potions. Scarezones Graveyard: A beautifully dark zone with both surprisingly and interestingly excellent costumes, and the sets look even better in person too. I’m really glad that they treat the concept of this zone very seriously by both embracing the tropes and breaking the cliches of the graveyard theme. My zone of the year! Conjure: Much better than last year’s zone in the San Francisco area; the pathways in the front and behind the mind-blowing stage are easier to take pictures and walk through now. The scareactors are very ambitious when they come up to you in your face, offering the best scares than any other zone. Scarecrow: Not mind-blowing as Graveyard but it’s a fun and beautiful zone to walk through that really made me feel I was at an Abandoned Farm in a rural area. I’m mostly critical of the barn cause of the slaughterhouse vibes with the distracting lack of the trap roof. Horrors of Halloween: Though it sort of feels empty and needs some orange lighting, but It’s a better photo-op zone than CryptTV with some scareactors actually doing their own thing, and seeing the Pumpkin Lord first while walking through felt like a very welcoming introduction of the event which truly makes him an icon. Sweet Revenge: I’m actually shocked how disappointing this zone is. I wanted this to be over-the-top and downright ridiculous other than the Trick or Treaters, but its personality is so lacking and bare-bone. Shows Ghoulish!: Easily the best Lagoon show of all time. There are no IP mandates like the last two, and it felt a lot like I was watching a deleted scene from the Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s a fun and experimental show with vintage artwork. My only complaint is for not including a pyro for the ending. Nightmare Fuel Wildfire: Was expecting to see something new here and there, but it’s the same as last year that is all copying and pasting. If they’re keeping it the way it is years from now, then it’s gonna make me want them to bring back Bill and Ted. My observations at the event: The crowds were rough, but I was able to hit all the attractions, and I’m so glad they installed raised walkways for the tent queues, which is something we needed after a heavy rain. One big issue I’ve noticed that needs to be taken seriously is the trash cans always get overfilled very quickly. If they could expand the garbage staff, they could clear them out actively during the event, so it stays empty at all times.

  49. Yeah, Cindy did made her appearance at that house too who wasn’t played by a scareactor. Maybe the Orfanage was also a prequel to Ressurection while the original Screamhouse and Revisited were side stories like we both agreed. She probably didn’t survive the arson attack that she committed at the Good Harvest Orphanage - unlike before with the Manor that was burnt down by an angry mob - until the Caretaker found her and later came back as the undead.
