  1. Had they given us amazing prosthetics and make up in this house, we all know for a fact that people would just find something else to complain about regardless. It would then be that the house lacked detail, there weren't enough scareactors, there weren't enough scenes from the show, etc. I'm not saying that everyone's complaints and suggestions aren't valid, because they are...but on the other hand, no matter what, people find fault with this event every year in some, way, shape or form...myself included. I have only seen the walkers outside the house, haven't even had the chance to go in this one yet because of the horrendous wait time during employee preview. The walkers outside looked alright to me at a glance, I didn't study their make up closely at all...which is probably what Universal is thinking in terms of using masks. The average event goer isn't going to get up close and personal and analyze what the walkers look like...most people are walking through these areas fast to avoid getting the shit scared out of them.
  2. Or say you are going to the Richard Petty Driving Experience There's also a backway in over by Wilderness Lodge that is the "free" route too...which is what we always use
  3. All of the above comments make me a happy camper... If I've got sirens and ash, then the rest of the house is just a bonus in my book.
  4. That's one of the few parks where you can easily get around paying to park, yet still park on property and know your car won't get towed...
  5. I'm not saying anyone enjoys paying for parking, especially at theme parks, but unfortunately it has become the norm. Trust me if it wasn't for Eric and I both being employees and parking for free, we would by the AP just for the free parking to use for our dinner trips to CityWalk. But all things considered, again, as much as people are willing to pay for tickets to HHN, merchandise, food/drinks, etc. parking is just another cost that I would think most people would factor in. I remember the good old days when parking at all the major theme parks, Disney, Uni, Sea World and Busch Gardents, was free. I've yet to understand the concept behind charging for parking, expect for the sheer monetary factor. Now THAT'S how to get the most use out of your AP right there...
  6. Hush

    Dead End

If it evokes that old classic haunted house feel, then I'm looking forward to seeing this one even moreso than before....
  7. While that's a great way to assure you don't have to pay to park at all, if you are parking somewhere else, you also run the risk of your car getting towed...which is a hell of a lot more expensive than just paying $15 bucks (or the $5 after 8pm) to park at Uni.
  8. So wait, we get BOTH the siren and the ashes?! O.k., despite the fact I hated the movie, this has now become the second house that I must see behind TWD. Thanks for the info sweetie!
  9. Thanks for the heads up! Although I'm sad to hear that the siren isn't the prevalent sound in the house given the fact it is such a major part of the creep factor of the movie. (Well for me, the only creep factor...) Strange about the fog too, again given that in the movie, fog was the constant weather factor of Silent Hill.
  10. Haven't been through this house, or any of the others for that matter...and my two big questions for Silent Hill are: 1. Do we get the siren? 2. How about ash, any falling? That is all.
  11. What I don't understand is if your willing to fork over money for a ticket to HHN, which is pricey ($88 plus tax for one night) unless you have some kind of discount, what is $15 to park your car? Something tells me people spend at least 3 times that on drinking once they get inside. Like Armando said, if it's that big of an issue, wait and head over after 8pm when the price goes down to $5.00.
  12. Now I have to say, from someone who has worked the event, the call times afforded to scareactors don't truly allow for overly elaborate make up. If your call time is 4:30 and your house opens at 6:30 that gives the makeup artists two hours...which for elaborate FX make up is not a great deal of time at all, especially for a large amount of people. That being said, they could've taken that time and really put together some amazing make up effects to utilize on a smaller group of walkers and left the remaining ones use the masks. TWD house and the supposed large number of walkers outside, I don't think it would be feasible to do make up on each and every scareactor which is probably why masks are being used instead. I have to say I was surprised at employee preview that more time and effort wasn't put into the walkers make up, especially since this is one of the big houses that has been marketed heavily. And from the sounds of things their look didn't change over opening weekend and they have continued to use masks. Guess we can hope that might change, maybe we'll start to see more elaborate make up over the next few weeks.
  13. This is the one house that come hell or high water, I will see before the end of this event... Glad to hear a fellow TWD fan enjoyed it so much!
  14. Have to say the cup is amazing, kept my tea cold at work all day Friday and didn't sweat all over my desk...plus it's got zombies on it, so that's just a plus...LOL
  15. I was a sucker employee preview night, made my first merchandise purchase since the 2006 event. Bought TWD double insulated cup and one of the hoodies. I have to say there is quite a nice assortment of merchandise this year, a little something for everyone it seems.
  16. No, preview night is usually one of the busiest. You've got Universal employees, third party employees, friends and family members...it's a shit ton of people...LOL The lines for the bars were EASY 6 people across and 10 people deep. The line for the bar in front of Silent Hill/Monsters Cafe was a MAJOR clusterfuck, you couldn't tell where one line started or the other ended...trying to just walk through it was a challenge. I don't think any of us are basing the entire events success on employee preview. What you also have to remember is preview is usually a week out before opening night, so sure, tweaking things is easy. Preview this year was one day removed from opening night, you'd think with the two dates being so close many issues would've been ironed out already. I'm not by ANY MEANS saying the event is going to suck completely based on my experiences at EP. I hope that everyone who goes has an amazing time. However, our night at preview was easily the worst of the past 5 years. And you also have to remember that many of us have been attending this event for decades, going numerous nights each year. We have seen how great preview can be, so to see it as the all out clusterfuck it was Wednesday night definitely made me wonder how the remainder of the event will run. Everyone need not take our mere opinions so seriously. Hell what WE all might think are horrendous lines, you all might find bearable. What we consider lackluster streets, you all might find absolutely amazing. It's all about perspective.
  17. I think we are all just being honest with our opinions from last night. I'm not going to sugar coat it and say it was amazing. I've been to a ton of employee previews and this one was by far the worst. Ever. For everyone who is going, I hope they have an amazing time. For me, personally...again, this is MY opinion, there's going to be have to be a LOT of changes made for things to improve. I'm sure improvements can be made, but like I said above, there are going to have to be a LOT of changes made for that to be so. With EP being so close to opening night, I would have figured last night would be a major dress rehearsal...because every other year there is usually a week between EP and opening night. We aren't doubting them, we are just stating our experiences from last night. I hope for the sake of everyone who goes that it does come together and everyone has a great time.
  18. Same goes for the placement of the bar adjacent to the entrance of the soundstage house at music plaza. WHO thought up THAT mess?!
  19. Crowds and the fact that the security company they hire to man the metal detectors works at a snails pace. And mind you, they had EVERY arch at the entrance open with two metal detectors per arch, so they were working at maximum capacity in regards to open entrances. Disorganized is a "nice" way of describing the clusterfuck that was last night
  20. Easily the worst employee preview of the last 5 years. We waited almost an hour to even get into the park and then were greeted by 60 to 75 minute wait times for houses, the streets were completely underwhelming, while the crowds were completely overwhelming. We were home by 10pm. Didn't see a single house, this "no safe zone" street experience...yeah, about that. Unless a shit ton changes, this year is going to go down as a completely unorganized mess. All I can say is, make paying guests wait almost an hour to even get into the park and see what kind of hell they raise.
  21. The Silent Hill version of Dead Exposure optical illusion....I like the way you think my friend!
  22. Very reminiscent of the Sweet 16 lagoon sphere show...a great way to amp up the ambiance and put all that new lagoon technology to good use.
  23. Dr. D is absolutely right. If you live here and going more than one night is doable, then the FFP is the way to go...you definitely get your monies worth out of it. There is no need to rush and try to fit everything into one night, you can check things out at your own pace.
  24. Let's break this down like fraction: If you only have one night at the event and are really worried about not getting to experience everything in that one evening, then your best bet is to fork the cash over for an express pass, plain and simple. Unfortunately, no one can predict what wait times will be like from year to year...so you always run the risk of missing out on a house and/or show if you are attending on a peak night and only have one night to see everything. That being said, seeing everything on a peak night CAN be done, you just have to budget your time.
  25. If your looking for a dollar menu fast food wise, there is a McDonald's, BK, Taco Bell and Wendy's all within two minutes of Universal.
