foodstampsFTW's poor ass late review of HHN 2014

So I finally decided it was time to write my review of HHN 2014. I'll start of by saying I went twice this year, once on 9/27 and 11/1, so I got a look at the early stages and the final product. Crowds were really bad this year with the lower lot completely full of people and 160 min waits, early entry or FOTL is required to do everything in one night. I would recommend multiple nights anyway to get the full experience. So without further ado, let's get started, I'll start with the scarezones, terror tram, then the houses.

Scarezones:

These are rained in order of worse to best and I judge scarezones on how good the scareactor talent is

Skullz:

This zone sucked. Through the multiple times walking through this zone I saw a max 2 actors and some times I didn't see a single actor and the ones who were didn't seem very energetic. This is probably the worst scarezone I've been through.

Grade: F

Walking Dead Welcome to Terminus:

This really doesn't do it for me, sure the actors seem on point but the real problem is I can't really stop and observe how they're doing I have to move on to do the mazes.

Grade: C

Mask-a-Raid:

This was great, sets were nice and actor talent was great

Grade: B

Dark Christmas:

Yes this was awesome, the sets were amazing, the costumes were amazing, the actor talent was amazing as well, shout out to the actor who took someone's souvenir sipper away from them while the person just held on to the straw. Would absolutely love for this to be a maze next year.

Grade: A

The Purge Anarchy:

I loved this. The sets were great, but the real star are the scareactors, these guys and girls get into their roles and have fun, it's a real damn shame people have to complain and get a great part of this taken away but that doesn't detract from how great this was, I just had the most fun walking through this one.

Grade: A+

Terror Tram Invaded by The Walking Dead:

God this was fucking terrible, I hated this so much. It seems like the whole creative team just doesn't want to do this anymore and just didn't give a shit. The actors are trying but the material they're given just is shit. It's just here for marketing. The terror tram in general needs a reboot. In all the year I've been(2011- present) terror tram hasn't once been good. It's been ok to terrible. I do feel that the purge should be this next year, riot gear purgers and big daddy's truck would be nice additions. But the terror tram as it is, isn't worth doing if your in a time crunch.

Grade:F

Mazes:

These are ranked from worst to best.

The Walking Dead End of the Line:

Wow what happened from the last two years of walking dead, this felt extremely short which is weird since this was in the exact same location as last year, and I got 1 scare throughout my 3 runs through this house and just got worse after every run through. There was literally one room on my last run where I wasn't looking and one burned walker came at my side I looked at him, another came at my other side and I didn't get scared. Yeah this was really bad

Grade: F

Clowns 3D Music by Slash:

This could have have been a lot better if the first 1/3 wasn't just reused walls and funhouse mirrors that weren't effective at all, in fact they barely popped out, I think I saw only like 3 do the scare and there was like 7 mirrors and I went through twice. The ice cream factory scenes were good and the actors got into it toward the end. The Slash music I didn't even notice the first time but the second run I heard it and it was good. The 3D effects were cool as always.

Grade: D+

Face Off in the Flesh:

This was probably the best HOH layover considering actual set design was tampered with a bit and the costumes and makeup was great and identifying what songs are playing in each room was fun, just a good time.

Grade: C+

Alien vs Predator:

This was just super fucking cool. Set design was great especially in the spaceship. There was a few good scares I got in here. I love the fight scenes and the finale scene was AMAZING, my jaw dropped when I saw the queen for the first time. I just wished there were more predators or walking xenomorphs and more scares but still a great maze.

Grade: B

From Dusk Till Dawn:

This was fucking great. The Twister looks fantastic and the doorman and the gecko brothers made for great outside entertainment and the set design is amazing the actors were on fire especially last bar scene Santanico. And there were a lot of scares in here multiple actors in most rooms. Overall another great maze and depending on where season 2 goes I wouldn't mind seeing this come back in future years.

Grade: A-

An American Werewolf in London:

I loved this. I loved the movie so much and I got what I wanted here. The star on the wall, the nazi werewolf scene was one of the best of the year, the transformation scene, and the wolves were fantastic. I got scared many times even though I could see them sometimes. The only problem with the maze was some of the wolves didn't need to be there as they didn't do anything( the one in the porno theater and the one on top of that box) but still everything I wanted.

Grade: A

And as much as I want to give AWIL my top spot this year, I have to give props where props are do and say that the best maze of 2014 is

Dracula Untold Reign of Blood:

Dracula man Dracula, my least anticipated maze but my I have to apologize to Murdy and the team for ever doubting them. This scared the shit of me. There were so many scareactors I'm here and they were on fire. So apparently there was a device in here called the feather ninja, I not knowing what this walked through here and found out what that was, I screamed WHAT THE FUCK and ran. This was just well design and had good scare tactics. This is easily the scariest maze of the year and since 95% of my grade goes toward how much I got scared. The only downside to this maze was the facade. What the hell was that. Other than that this was fantastic.

Grade: A+

Overall:

This was my favorite year of hhn since I started going back in 2011. With great mazes like Dracula, AWIL, FDTD, and AvP,and scarezones improving in quality really made this year great. I only wished terror tram would be better and Bill and Ted was here. But this year was fantastic and I can't wait for next year.

Dracula surprised the hell out of me too. And each group I went with on all three nights said it was the scariest maze of the night (not the best, but the one they got the most scares). It was super underrated and I too apologize for all the crap I talked on it.

Glad to see you had fun.
