If we look at death through some cultures...Reincarnation plays a role in some religions....they believe that the person dosent trully die but that thier spirit waits to transfer to a new body....perhaps this plays into the Rune room because many of the ancient civilizations that used runes as thier alphabet believed in mutliple gods and reincarnation..so thier fate is to continue living until thier mission in life is acomplished and they are then removed from the wheel of reincarnation and pass on to the netherworld...so maybe they will uses this concept to work with fate and death
