  1. Actually, that (along with the price) has me thinking I'll be getting a hoodie this year. Maybe I'm in the (vast) minority, but I find myself buying shirts from HHN that I don't wear much because I know they look a little ridiculous to people "not in the know" about the event. Granted, I live in NY and I assume in Florida the shirts are instantly recognizable as being associated with the event and not some death metal band with blood letters sprayed across your chest. The understated nature of the hoodie coupled with the attractive price point has me leaning towards getting one. Also, as much personal preference as what I said above, I HATE stuff on the back of a hoodie. I NEVER have the hood up (unless there's a blizzard) so anything that might be on the back is half covered 99% of the time anyway. Not being contradictory, just think it's funny how I find myself on the opposite side of a lot of discussions here. Of course, may have something to do with me being an old fart and pushing 40.....
  2. To keep up the parade of links going....the official redband trailer (meaning you have to enter your birthdate before you can watch it....must be 18) http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/09/19/the-thing-red-band-trailer Looking pretty good!
  3. I'm going to get the cards, hat, and both shotglasses. I typically only get the shooter, but I like them so much I'll get a regular shot glass to actually use and just put the shooter on my shelf with the ones from previous years MIGHT get a house shirt too. Haven't gotten one the last two years...but have to see it in person to decide how much I like it. EDIT: If the House shirt front is just a "breast emblem", and not a huge "cross chest" one, I think I'm gonna get it. It's growing on me...just not a big fan of T's with a lot on the front.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/user/eaglemon93 It's in 4 parts there...with a bit of overlap. The vids run 60min and the event itself was 40min. I have nothing to do with the videos, just pointing you in the right direction
  5. I wouldn't be surprised if it just says HHN and Orlando or something like that...not tied to any one year. I can't tell from the picture, and I haven't read any clarification, but that would be my bet since I don't think it's going to be a yearly thing. Give everybody screaming for Hoodies their chance to get one, and just tie it to the even itself to make everybody happy.
  6. After watching the video, I couldn't help but think it was like the game Condemned....I know, has NOTHING to do with Poe, but just the sound, editing, shooting style, etc reminded me sooooooo much of the flashback sequences of Condemned.
  7. I wonder how often the buildings are going to "crumble"...and if they're going to tie in with anything special by the Scareactors. Like do they do a whole bunch of scares, congregate by the buidling to draw your attention, and then scream and flee when the building starts to crumble. Can't wait to see how they do this. I hope it's not just a continual loop or something that happens every minute...I'd like it to build up some suspense about what's going on and what's going to happen (for those who haven't seen this yet) to up the surprise factor. EDIT: .....or maybe what they showed was a sped up video and the building will slowly collapse over time. That would be really cool, but it doesn't look like it.
  8. I usually wouldn't pay more than $40 for one (I've paid $50 for some sports team ones). Event stuff is usually more expensive, but it's a $10-$15 bulk black hoodie with a tiny patch on it. I'd expect $45 - $50 to be the price...and I would consider it if I had room in my suitcase. But if it's anywhere near $65 they can keep it. Of course, they might jack up the price if they think they're going to be selling 50% of them for $5 in the bargain bin after the event. Likewise, the hat better not be any more than $25....I'm hoping for $22.95 or something like that. Sooooooooo wish they were selling the coin people got from the tweetup thing...that's really nice and the kind of thing I'd love to have, but also one of the things you just buy and then stick in a drawer and forget about. Ha ha ha. My plan is to get a hat, deck of card, and the tall shotglass I get every year. If the hoodies are nice and (relatively) cheap, I might be tempted to pick one up. Also, if they have a shirt that doesn't have the stupid blood on the front, or one that just has the NNH logo on the front and then the Roulette Wheel on the back I will have to get one. If it's the blood red raised letter thing again, I'll pass.
  9. Wow, I want Gluttony to look like the Brenda Monster from Slither by her third transformation!
  10. Ask them if they're going to have an Extreme House this year! Ha ha ha, just kidding. Ask them about if there will ever be a 2-park HHN again...and if the Suess Estate has anything to do with them not having it at IOA any more. That's a selfish question on my part as we asked TJ at the VIP event last year and he told us, flat out, that there is no reason, inlcuding Suess, to stop them from having it at both parks in the future...and if the theme/event was better served having it in both parks again, they wouldn't hesitate to do it. I've posted that about 15 times, but nobody believes me and SWEARS by the Suess story even though TJ flat out denied that to me and my 5 friends last year.
  11. I think the whole roof argument is silly myself. I've NEVER been taken out of a house by the fact that the walls are only 8' high and there is no ceiling. Plus some of my best scares are from up above. If the roofs are such a big deal to anybody personally, then don't look up....problem solved Besides, many of my best house scares have been from above. I'll admit the roof, much like a freezing cold house, could potentailly add to the immersion factor of a house, but the "cost vs reward ratio" for each is way too low. Having said that, the picture still looks awesome and less conga line-ish than some previous houses...looks like you have a little more room to stray and spread out. I hope they have a lot more wide open houses this year, even if they're shorter. The conga lines are just getting worse and sucking a lot of fun out of the event. That's why my group goes so early in the event....but with the Rush of Fear ticket, I think a lot more locals will be showing up so I'm worried about how each walkthrough will go.
  12. Not to piss on everybody's parade, but I don't see roofs in the picture. The Jail Cell looks like the rear wall just ends, no roof at all. The "hallway" roof looks more like a grid of wood slats....like a picket thatched fence. EDIT: Found a better picture: That gives a bit of an allusion to a roof, and allows for the cool lighting affects.
  13. Especially if you go to Finnegan's for a pint of guineess when the park closes...then you might even have 3 houses done by 6:30
  14. Well, HHN does start at 6:30....it's usually pretty bright out for quite a while during the event. Also (while all I know is from pictures, not sure about the layout) there may be strategically placed lights highlighting those areas all night.
  15. I would have posted this under the Meetup thread, but my post was apparently deleted...just got my HNN shirt in the mail. Hopefully that means more scares this year and then I'll make all 5+ of the other guys in my yearly group pick them up
  16. Legacy sent me a VERY enlightening PM about my comments, and there's one thing I'd like to share: Think of this...a friend sneaks up behind you and yells, "Booo!". What do you do? You jump of course because he scared you...much like the scareactors do at this event. It's something ingrained in your brain that is a split second reaction that you have no way to stop. You know that your buddy isn't going to do anything bad, yet you jump. Our millitary is trained to INSTANTLY react to any perceived threat. It's the only thing that can keeps them alive in a hostile environment. Through repetition, it's ingrained in them. Their "fight or flight" reactions are something they can't deny and imperative to their survival. Something like this, while a known "safe" surrounding could still trigger an involuntary reaction in our servicemen and women...much like your "safe" friend, significant other, or spouse can still manage to scare you. This is something I NEVER considered and it makes me think differently about this house and how it may affect the people that are fighting for the freedoms many of us take for granted. I'll leave my comments above for the sake of the discussion, but those of you who may have seen this a "non-issue" like I did, might want to read this post over a couple times and see if you don't see things in a different light. EDIT - fixed some stupid typos and ramblings to make this appear to be written in English
  17. Yeah. I'm pretty much the demographic that a Hoodie would be marketed towards and ANYTHING I see warm down there, when I'm sweating my ass off in looooooong lines for each house, is NOT something I want to even consider. "Why the hell do they have a Cinnebons serving coffee in the park!?!?!?" I always thought, "all these fans want hooded sweatshirts, I wonder why they don't carry them?" until I was down there and saw an awesome one at Hard Rock last year and though, "This is really nice, I'd love to have this...but it's too damn hot....and my suitcase was full on the flight down here, with the T-Shirt and glasses I already got I don't room in my suitcase" and a light bulb went off over my head and I thought, "Ohhhhhh, I get it. That's why they don't make hoodies." And like someone else said, I get it that it gets cold down there a few times a year (I have to see the poor oranges getting frost on them on my local news telling me my OJ prices are going to go up - ha ha ha) but it also get's to 100 up here a few times a year and I don't expect you to feel bad for me when it's 90-degrees for 100 straight days down there
  18. Looks like something from a Mushroom head reunion album from 2040 where the 3 surviving members wear those costumes...all hunched over.
  19. I didn't go to HHN until 2004, but WISH I was there for an all black house! My first year had Disentorium or whatever it was, and that was a mindf**k of a house. It was amazing, we got lost, and it really freaked us out a bit. I chalk that partially up to our first time ever going, but nothing has been like that since. I seemed to have started going a year before the event BLEW UP and the Conga Lines going through each house now pretty much make it impossible to have such a house.... ....unless they incorporate it into an Alone/Extreme house. Ha ha ha....let's not start that conversation here.
  20. I was thinking that the "Canyon" of Lost Souls might be fake rocks that would make that costume come back....but obviously that idea's been shot to hell That is my second all time scare from HHN...behind Treeman who scared the BEJESUS out of me one year. It was still daylight so we were running through taking pictures so we wouldn't ruin stuff later with a flash and he was "shadowing me" and I was like, "I KNOW this tree wasn't here before!" and then he jumped. That was the best one ever. Rockman jumped out to scare a group of girls ahead of me, but it was so startling to see it...when there's a giant rock wall you're brain ASSUMES nothing is going to jump out of it...second best scare ever in 6 years at HHN, and the Scareactor wasn't even going after anybody in my group. Ha ha ha.
  21. Legacy, I have the UTMOST respect for you and your fellow servicemen. Lots of people think you're a bunch of nuckledraggers wasting their tax dollars and all that crap, I'm not one of them. But part of what you guys are fighting for is our freedom...and that includes freedom of expression and freedom of speech. The freedom to have an event like this that would be forbidden in many other countries. To have scantily clad girls working the event and not covering their entire body except for their eyes. The freedom to have the alcohol flowing. Etc. Think of the Orphanage from last year. People who were orphaned as children and grew up in an orphanage could have been traumatized. Cindy burned down the orphanage killing those inside. Psychotherapy is a play on the mentally ill. Many houses contain a killer who kills multiple people, some in quite common ways, that could affect many. Houses have mock electrocutions/drownings/hangings/gunshot victims where an attendee may have lost a loved one to a similar incident. There is a risk of upsetting all these people. EVERYTHING at this event could offend people. I have so much respect for our military that I won't assume vets would be unable to attend a haunted house. And I stand by my Call of Duty comparison, I think it's quite valid. Yes, you are staring into a box playing a game that you are prepared to play...but going into a house, which lasts maybe 5 minutes and has lots of exits available and you KNOW going in is just as fake as the game is a similar situation. You are mentally prepared for the house...and nobody knows your personal mental situation better than you. If you have ANY doubt about being able to handle the house, avoid it. You KNOW it contains war scenes. If you're in line and get close to the building and hear machine gun fire and explosions and it makes you anxious, turn around and don't do it. I don't see how you could get so immersed that you think what's around you is REAL. Especially with the supernatural elements. The sounds and some scenes could invoke a startling reaction, but I don't see how you could mistake it as real. Maybe Universal needs a sign like the "May cause motion sickness" signs by the rides saying something like "Warning: Contains realistic scenes of war" or something like that. And this isn't an argument or anything like that, just engaging in intellectual conversation that presents itself here and over at Rumors. Of course, feel free to say I'm a stupid civilian who has no clue what the hell he's talking about. You, and other members of any branch of the military, have CERTAINLY earned that right!
  22. That would stink in my opinion. OK, no Military Guys (unless the Scandanavian Military shows up in the movie to try to rescue their outpost, then it would make sense). I agree with you there. But No puppets or Animatronics would really limit what they could do. Take the first Thing and to say no dog, no Blair monster/spider head thing, no Blair Monster with the streaching head, etc. You can only do so much with costumes...and there's no CGI in the houses (ha ha ha) so you really need to make some non-scareactor creatures to be true to the movie.
  23. Cool. I was too lazy to try to figure out the tech, but that Wiki Link makes sense. Thanks for the info, really interesting. If the lighting isn't important, I wonder if there will be anything else in the park/scare zones that will stick out with the glasses. Always wondered how the Muertos SZ from last year would have looked with the glasses. Not necessarily a strobe house, but lots of houses use the strobe affect and it works really well in the 3D where you see the stuff sticking out and then can't see it and the scareactor moves and then you see them again somewhere else. It's really freaky.
  24. I live up in NY and wear hoodies all the time...but I would NEVER think of buying one while in Florida. Plus, I wouldn't have room in my suitcase coming home...it would take up too much space. So while I feel for the people calling for Hoodies every year...I can completely see why they don't offer them.
  25. I LOVED the VIP Lounge, but it would certainly lose it's luster after just having it last year. Of course, I only went one week so I would have liked to see the presentations for the other 3 weeks, but oh well. Hopefully they'll have it back for HHN XXV to highlight the XXI, XXII, XXIII and XXIV years (works out to one year per week, perfect) and it will turn into an every 5-year event.
