  1. So, the theme for Vamp 85 is a 1985 NYE party gone bad. To me, that means to stay in the theme, the music needs to be from 1985 as a NYE party is typically a retrospective of the current year. It is also a NYE party so the slow stuff has to be kept to a minimum. Thoughts?
  2. didn't mean it as a jab or anything more than funny, but you will get a good sense of some 80s music in that thread.
  3. If only there were a Vamp 85 playlist thread.......
  4. This is a NYE party celebrating the end of 1985. I wont put anything on the turntable that wasnt made in 1985! And this is a party so dont even think about coming up here and asking for that Dionne Warwick "That's what friends are for" Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls Last Christmas - George Michael A-Ha - Take On Me Queen - One Vision (this is a MUST) Doug E Fresh - The Show The Theme From MIami Vice John Parr - Man in Motion Axle F Billy Idol - White Wedding Cult - She Sells Sanctuary Dire Straits - Money for Nothing Maddona - Holiday
  5. Maybe Mikey has just been drinking green tea all GD day!
  6. Yes. When there is a Texas Chainsaw Massacre/Nightmare on Elm Street/Halloween type house, I know exactly what I'll be in for. Lots and lots of really awesome sound effects and slashers swinging at me. When you walk around the corner of the curtain and see a gigantic riverboat facade and step inside you have no idea what's next. IPs are awesome and lots of fun, but the originals is where the unknown happens.
  7. They are listening to us? I booked my stay on site back in Feb. $150 down, completely refundable, and locked in to a room with a King bed for a week. You cant get a King bed room at any of the big 3 for late October by now. And this year, we are going the route of buying the lowest level annual pass. It will activate when we hit the turnstyles on our first day and then next year we are going to try to book HHN one week earlier so we can actually get two full vacations (and possibly a short 3rd) on one pair of season passes. So, you're a 3 hour drive or a 5 hour flight from either park? I've only ever seen videos of the HHN Hollywood, but I would be pissed if I paid that money for that product. Tent houses with no ceilings, all those black halls with no scares..... Yeah, Ill stick to FL.
  8. The difference in this forum from 12 months ago is amazing. The absolute dread and doom and gloom last year to this years palatable excitement is refreshing. I am hoping there is an icon announcement coming soon. Next announcement will be on the 21st as I believe it was mentioned. And we are coming up on that 90 day mark where I can actually start thinking about my trip and we will start seeing more and more real construction in USF. Im stoked! The only thing is that my trip starts on 10/19 and by then my GF will have watched every damn youtube video produced for HHN28.
  9. Jem and the Holograms would be terrifying The recent Amityville movie fits the theme.
  10. Yes and no. I live in Georgia and I never see a HHN commercial even though I do see a fair amount of USF adverts. However, I was told by USF staff that the big 3 hotels were completely booked for HHN by early May 2017. So, there is no big reason for spending money to advertise. Well, there is this:
  11. Yes. The current movie may only be a few months old, but the story is 30 years old and is as iconic of a SK story there can be. Also, the Tim Curry version helps this along, although I'd never want to see HHN do anything with that version.
  12. The crowd calendar is the best indicator. USF closes at 5pm for Thursday the 25th to Wednesday the 31st then again on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th.
  13. comparing this to the crowd calendar and park dates it seems to be very accurate. This will be the longest run of HHN, to date. Also, note the difference of no Wednesdays but the addition of Mondays, starting October 1. September 14, 15 16, 20, 21, 22 23, 27, 28, 29 30 October 1, 4, 5, 6 7, 8, 11, 12, 13 14, 15, 18, 19, 20 21, 22, 25, 26, 27 28, 29, 30, 31 November 1, 2, and 3rd and 4th. 37 36 days of HHN.
  14. Yes, it was very pretty. Also, pretty boring. There was no reason to even pause in the area after youve seen the kid puke water once. They couldnt even be bothered to make it look like something other than water? None of the SAs are even interested in scaring anyone. So, does that make them non-SAs? Altars is wasted space and time. Just plain stupid to have a zone for selfies. OK, I did like this zone once it got dark. I'm still not happy with it. Two or three actual scare actors. The rest is all for selfies. I'd prefer them to make it actually a scary event and not Universal's kinda scary but we dont want to really put effort into being scary event. And, yes, Purge was good. I liked it the most. And shouldn't we? That zone is the largest zone and should be the best. Invasion! was so dumb and a waste of effort. The best was actually the clowns. At least they were trying to scare people. The only part of the park where people (ok, young girls) were actually screaming and running away from SAs. And the SAs in that section are seriously good at what they do. Overall, my opinion is quite low. I think 3 good houses is really reaching for an event that should be a top tier event.
  15. Im very new to HHN. Did not get the opportunity to go "back in the day" so, my opinions are based on the new. I'll get to experience HHN27 in a couple of weeks. From reviews and videos and youtube stuff, it seems that it is an accurate review to say that the zones have become selfie zones. The Invasion! area looks great, on paper, but in reality there is nothing scary about it or Trick R Treat, for that matter. But, I get those. Yes, I would like to see the whole park as scary as possible, but I can handle a little old school light horror, too. I even would love to see a Simpsons based scarezone at some point. But, the Titans of Terror? Really? You think a couple of twin girls are scary? They get what like 30 seconds of screen time in that movie and are not even really explained very well. Pablo with the book on his face? They really missed the mark on this zone. I really liked Chance's scare zone last year. Yes, it was a selfie zone, but at least it was cohesive. They missed out on so many characters they could have put out there. You mean, there isnt even one Jack with an axe? Why isnt Bone Daddy the icon? Why is the zone so.....strip club in nature? It doesnt even seem to be a good zone. Purge? Again? Why, because it is cheap and simple? Clowns with chain saws. Now, this is good. This is what I expect. Wrong part of the park. The admonishment that this event is not for children under 13 is getting less and less of a truth. Ive gone back and watched some older videos and man those are some dark events. If they keep going this direction it will be an all ages event within 3 years.
  16. I have to disagree with this. The posted price is for a double shot. If you are shorting me on that second shot, that's not what I've paid for. If a shot costs $9 and a drink costs $11 and a double costs $18, then yes, it is 2x the price of the single.
  17. Why did USF eliminate liquor mixed drinks at the pop up bars? Follow the money. If you run a bar the number one way to lose money is by not controlling the pour. Accuracy of pouring exactly 1.5 oz per shot will make or break you if your actually pouring 2oz shots. If youre pouring 1 oz shots youre ripping off your customer. (I dont think US cares about short pours) When you allow a bartender to pour drinks on the fly you are letting the bartender control the pour. So, if you remove mixed drinks to two specific locations you have a couple of well trained bartenders. At the rest of the pop up bars you only let them sell controlled drinks. Beer and wine being the easiest, but the specialty drinks are premixed (controlled) before they are brought to the pop up bar. And, yes, as mentioned they are extremely weak. I will never understand why US (the entire place) charges for premium drinks and sells you the cheapest bottom shelf alcohol they possibly can. I'm looking at you Margaritaville. Another 2 pro tips: Do not order doubles. You do not get 3 oz in your drink. You will almost ALWAYS get a short pour on the 2nd shot. Do not order 2 drinks at once. They will make them in the same shaker and just like that double, you'll get shorted. This goes for almost any bar who is sketchy.
  18. I reached out to HHN Orlando on twitter and asked about this. There were quotes early in the summer that joining Soul Collectors would gain you special perks, etc. I was expecting something like a special lanyard or something. But, it appears they have completely abandoned the entire idea. They have responded to most twitter questions, but not this one. As to people who cannot hold their liquor and cause issues. I believe this to be a very thin percentage of people. it should be made clear to anyone that if you act like an ass you will be banned. As mentioned earlier, some patrons plan for a year to take this vacation and it can cost several thousand dollars for this week of relaxation and entertainment. If you act like a jerk and ruin my night, I want to make sure that you dont get to come back. How to do this is the issue. I think they should invest in upgrading the fingerprint scanners to palm scanners and then you could actually ban specific people for a 3 or 5 year term. (I do think people should be given an opportunity to mature and have a second chance) But the whole topic is quite the misnomer. Yes, only one location is now selling quality mixed drinks. But, so does all of City Walk. The marketing answer that it takes longer to make a mixed drink than to sell you a beer or the specialty drinks is a misleading answer. The real answer is that they can much better control the pour per drink if only one bar and a handful of well trained bartenders are controlling the pour. Plus, they premix the specialty drink to ensure accurate portions. Over/under pouring and over serving are the things, it appears, they are looking to eliminate. Plus, they still sell beer and wine, so it is quite easy to pregame and maintain and enjoy yourself. So, just curious......lightweight or rich beyond caring?
  19. Maybe it is the alcohol, maybe it isn't. But, here is the rub, IMHO. They are still selling their "signature" drinks all over the park. The only thing that has been restricted is access to adult mixed beverages. All this so USF can sell the signature drinks which are seriously weak. So, anytime you want a real drink you have to queue through Flannigan's. I don't believe it has anything to do with 'drying out HHN'. It's an attempt to push people to buy the signature drinks,. It also allows USF to better control the amount of alcohol in drinks by premixing the signature drinks. So, its not like they have taken alcohol away, just made it more difficult to get a good drink. Oh and one more thing. All pop up bars still sell beer. Only mixed drinks are more difficult to get.
  20. All of the drinks served at all of the popup bars using the premixed concoctions are always weak every year.
  21. Is that two different Tervis patterns or just the opposite sides of the same?
  22. I'd be happy but surprised to receive anything from USF. At most I think it would be a lanyard. I doubt they would send 43,000+ ppl a tshirt. > From http://attractionsmagazine.com/universal-orlando-soul-collectors-halloween-horror-nights-27/ Guests who sign up now will also enjoy special in-park perks and other exclusive items and prizes throughout the event. If you signed up before the clock expired on August 2, then, Those who register can download Halloween Horror Nights digital wallpaper, and may also receive an item identifying you as a member of the Elite Legion, or an opportunity to be a part of the Soul Collector Social Media Meet-Up, as well as additional rewards.
  23. Irma could cause some further 'deconstruction'. I would be removing anything that isnt tied down and this would affect all the scarezones and stuff like the corn. The entire first week of the event is in jeopardy as Irma looks to be coming in Cat 4 or 5 and modeled to run right up the coast. Ugh. Its not going to be a fun two weeks (Im in Atlanta and will get the remnants a few days later, most likely)
