My concern is seeing surveys that over half the country will refuse any vaccine funded by Bill Gates.  When did people become so irrational?

Say what? How stupid do you have to be?

As badly as I and everyone else want this year to happen, I'll feel really bad for you if you're unable to go. :(

I'm just really interested in which direction and theme the event will go this year, the house line up has many consecutive ways it could go about happening, I'll tell you this, I'm just glad a Netflix house is not on that list lol, I'd be fine with em but I think they should have to another SAW house, the best of back at 27 was the best way to end the franchises' tenure at the event to usher something else in. Candyman I'm still on the fence about, I feel like they would wait on it, if it happens, I wouldn't be so surprised after the appearance from US last year. The rest look promising but definitely feel like Universal would take apart some of those and use em for certain other years even though this year would be the right time to do em.

    HoHH IS Netflix.

So according to that speculation map:

    Beetlejuice - Soundstage 21 (?)

Monsters: The Bride - Soundstage 23B

    Bedtime Stories - Soundstage 23A

    Terra Cruentes - Soundstage 25

    Billie Eilish - MIB Tent

Dungeon of Terror - Sprung Tent 2

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina - Sprung Tent 1

The Haunting of Hill House - New Parade Building

Legendary Truth: Carey - Parade Building

    Gremlins - Sprung Tent 3 (?)

24A and B instead of 21 and 25. That map projects Billie for MIB tent.

It's alright, but for the 30-year anniversary, this is kinda disappointing. All the originals sound absolutely amazing (TERRA QUEEN HELL YEAH!), but in terms of IP, sure ya got Beetlejuice, but the rest is kinda eh. Also, was hoping for more originals for the 30th, but nope we still got a 6 IP, 4 original split.

To be fair, I hadn't really come across a spec map so far that was much if any better. I too would have liked one more original, but if all the originals are strong (like last year for instance) I'm willing to be quite generous. And one of those IPs will have an original story.

I was very specific with my words... “Horror Movies”

I love HoHH, great Show... more spooky mystery with horror elements.

and the others you listed were originals.

Fair. I can't really argue with you if you're specifically looking for horror MOVIES.

But calling HoHH not horror is looking at horror, even "straight" horror  with way too small a scope. I find it WAY scarier than Freddy and Jason.

And I go to HHN for originals anyway. I definitely agree that there's certainly been the introduction of more comedy and/or family IPs since 28. But part of that is because there's more houses now--granted I don't want a higher number. I mean, 18--the gold standard of the event's history--had six "straight" originals, one comedy original and one IP that on one hand was R-rated but definitely not horror.

Well this was some pretty bad news on top of everything going on in the world.  I am in sorta denial RN.

They should just change the event name to “Halloween Nights” Cause there isn’t much there in the way of horror.  Spooky stuff sure, but not one Horror movie (or what I consider to be a horror movie IMO)  I apologize, I am not mean to dump on anyone’s fandom but totally not what I have come to love for over the past decade + :(.

enjoy the fog everyone... won’t be committing anymore cash till official announcements are released, and if they are in line with the map (as they usually are... Imma head out)

Oh, so Haunting of Hill House isn't horror?

    Terra Cruentes?

    Dungeon of Terror?

    Legendary Truth?

UCM Brides? (Remember, UCM houses are NEVER book reports of the original movies)

    Deadtime Stories?

My god people, that's SIX horror houses. Plus a house involving Satanism. Same number as 18. I understand feeling bad in general right now but keep it in perspective!

I think the lineup could be better, but it could be SO SO SO SO SO MUCH worse. Honestly, the spec map earlier was worse. I can't tell you how bad some of the wishlists on teh Facebook page were. People wanting the same goddamn things over and over again--the 2328773th bloody year of Jack and Chance and Freddy and Jason, for example.

I don't see them really cancelling the event, they are sitting it out and sitting the announcements and possibly going to wait till June to put out stuff, June is the best guess that we might see this stuff but seeing how it is going on Inside Universal, I wouldn't get my hopes on expecting this year will go the way people think it will go.

We have two different insiders saying two kinda sorta different things. Do we really want a rehash of 25? I sure don't. We've had Jack enough darn times, and I find Chance to be extremely annoying. I can take some experimenting.

As much as I wanted them to do a Catacombs sequel, honestly the first one is the best, I know there could be many ways to go about a sequel but last year's Nightingales I think proves that some houses don't need sequels or prequels to continue you know what I mean, some are needed and others just not really, that also goes also with Crossovers as well.

There are some houses that are best not getting sequels. But Nightingales ain't one--I thought finding a conflict that wasn't a war was pretty genius. Yes I wish they kept the old masks (only thing keeping it from being my FOAT) though I have a hunch as to why they didn't.

Scarecrow is the most obvious house to get a sequel this year, but I'm not quite sure how to continue the story in a satisfying way.

no no, Dead Exposure: Patient Zero remember? We've been down this road before lol

I wish they had gone with photography again...imagine pictures of a Soviet biowarfare attack in West Germany that zombifies the population, would have fit the '80s perfectly. So then a Catacombs sequel this year wouldn't feel redundant. But I digress.

So Soundstage 22 and Shrek are both going bye-bye? Interesting. Lends credence to CLB.

Assuming there's an anniversary house, I think it will go in one of the parade buildings if the soundstage configuration is accurate.

Yeah, but when you look at it from the marketing aspect "Do we wanna do something with diehards want or something that will draw big money?" the obvious answer is clear as a day what they will pick if they were do such an idea, as much a lot of past originals to come back, the higher ups are definitely going to have their hands deep into what is coming this year. We get the Terra Cruentas, I could see them only fitting all of the stuff they could to homage each house and stuff by putting it in the parade building, I wouldn't mind because it would have a sick facade that could be inspired and maybe be a set piece from the Terra Cruentas stage.

They generally allow 1-2 originals in a soundstage. I guess they could do an IP zone in NY but who knows what. A TC house-zone combo while having the things marketing wants is perfectly doable. I am NOT suggesting TC be the marketing focus, especially when it wasn't even the marketing focus of 15.

@Legacy are you still hearing 3/20 for first announcement?

  11. 6 minutes ago, HorrorUnearthed said:

Ah Blood Thunder Alley, I mean I don't see them making a scarezone but deep down I would love another house, but I'm sure they'd give it a spot in a Terra Cruentas house, it'd fit probably not as much as it did at 15, but few scareactors, hearing some cycles roaring, some strippers dancing around as a distractions from some of the scareactors to catch you offguard, who knows.

Soundstage house with entrance in NY. Very simple. :)

I’m having a lot of trouble understanding this. If marketing is so “incompetent” how come HHN’s attendance keeps growing? I know it can’t just be from random minutiae interactions over t-shirts. Don’t all parties involved have to work together at some point in time to sell HHN? I know that we all like to think we’re important in the hearts of HHN but the bottom line, at least to me, seems to be an insurance of growth. They’ve already got our money, and since they’re not a mom & pop operation but a Comcast stemmed event, they want more. From where I’m sitting if the event lacks growth, it stagnates, it eventually dies.

While snobbiness and an aura of gatekeeping contribute to why I generally don’t come around here anymore, I didn’t really get that (or condescension) from what he said so I’m struggling with this.

To be fair, the attendance was supposedly lower this year. At least it felt like it for the most part.

Obviously there will continue to be stuff to bring in newcomers, but all I ask is that we have plenty to balance it out as well.

2011 was a FANTASTIC year - one of the best ever in my opinion.  While Lady Luck was not a very memorable icon, the way she was weaved into all of the houses was very cool.

The In Between was easily the best 3D house I've been in anywhere in the country.

Saws & Steam backstory was described very well above.  The final room was very close to that of Depths, but there was a waterfall separating you from the baddie ahead of you.  In S&S, the costume was reminiscent of Big Daddy, and he came charging through the waterfall at you.

Winter's Night was every bit as beautiful as Graveyard Games (which is my new GOAT)

Forsaken was loosely based on The Fog, but was epic in scale, with a massive shipwreck in the middle of it.

Nevermore was a Poe fan's nirvana.

HR Bloodengutz was a great blend of comedy and horror, served with a side of 'memberberries.

And 2011 was where Nightingales began, with the location being the trenches in WWI.

2011 was the last time HHN had overwhelmingly original houses.  The pendulum swung hard to IP in 2012 and it took a long time to get back to even a 50/50 split.

This COULD be the year we finally get more originals than IPs, just by nature of the possibility of 11 houses.

Anyways, here's my very rough, shot in the dark, and still too early prediction for the lineup:

    • Beetlejuice (Legacy's clue and what he said recently)
    • Revenge of Chucky (Again, Legacy's clue as well as ModDesigner's comments--if not Scarecrow, THIS would be a perfect opportunity for an open floor house--set it in a toy store, put it in SS25, lay the path via shelves)
    • Stranger Things (for budget and to promote S4...believe me, ugh...maybe Sabrina instead, though I'm not sure if that would be much better; I just can't see them not using any Netflix properties).
    • Creepshow (Ifrit + fairly cheap since Hollywood did it)
    • "UCM: Bride" (Once again, Legacy's clue...and c'mon, it's the 30th, you really think they'd do nothing with the Monsters?)
    • Jack's Dungeon of Terror (Legacy's clue; sticking with my idea of going through the carnival dark ride he was found in, to fit with the whole "back in his box" thing; heck you could work LT in there if that rumor is correct)
    • Scarecrow sequel or repeat (The promo image; aside from cornfield which would be less likely if they did something in the vain of my Chucky idea, I remember someone pitching the idea of a Seeds of Extinction crossover)
    • Terra Cruentes: Season of the Queen (Legacy saying that it's about on the same level of likelihood as Billie)

My memories is a bit of blur but Saws N Steam Into The Machine was about a utopia that was fantasized by these people called The Horizon, Water was very rich, poor was very high I believe, so there was this place called The Horizon, and they'd give you this test, if you failed you were sent away but if you passed you were accepted but you weren't signing for something you wanted  but to be taken away and drained of your blood which would be used as fuel for the city, the water and blood and your body would be taken and used to fuel the city basically and parts would be used well for parts like weapons and stuff I believe, though the concept of the house with art deco stuff and etc. was very inspired by Bioshock, this house was awesome, the story behind it was pretty cool too, I'd think if they brought it back as a scarezone again it'd be awesome. :)

Did they make a deal with the devil in 2011? Seems like every house sans Thing was a home run. Guess Lady Luck was on their side, no?

Well, the GP makes 98% of the attendees... so... yeah.

Things change. There’s no one left on A&D who was there when they had full control. Universal is under new ownership. Attendance is higher (because of that focus on the GP, btw). It was always going to happen.

The event isn’t about “true fans” (which is an asinine, gate-keeping term anyway). But it never was. It’s a corporate event, designed to make money. Any loyalty you have towards it just means you’ve fallen for the marketing.

I hate to be pedantic, but what was Patrick’s first year?

But can we please not have this discussion for the 19203042048545453984209482nd time?

I don’t think I’ll be skipping any year for a long time time. But with that being said, what would have me skip 30?
The event would have to be super generic. Not even mention that it’s the 30th. Have no original houses. And all the houses they did use would have to be some dumb borderline horror movies that all the dumbass Facebook lol omg fans begged to see. You know, the fans that see a horror movie and run to the HHN Facebook page and post “ Omg I just saw (insert horror movie) and it should totally be a house this year lol.” Even then, I might have to go just once to see it.

ESPECIALLY if they increase the house count I don't see all IPs happening LOL. But yeah something like this would do the trick.

  17. 5 hours ago, Brandon said:

Agreed. They do everything for the GP, and nothing for horror fans. House of 1000 Corpses was the one thing they did for us last year.

I’d argue all but three were for horror fans--all of those three being in soundstages (yes I consider Klownz to be for horror fans, very Bloodengutz-y). It didn't help that those were the ones featured on the marketing, of course. That said, it's a bit more acceptable for 29 to have a relatively high amount of non-horror. Because 29 wasn't the year that matters. That's this year.

Oh, and is IU down right now?
