Frankly, I've got better things to do with my time then to read the complete back story of anthropomorphic squid. Also, when you feel the need to use an ellipsis, just use a comma.

Perhaps, it's an extreme house? In all seriousness though, it's probably just something to help the technicians work. Personally, I hate ladders when I'm working, so it would be a lot easier for me to construct temp. stairs then to stand on a ladder all day.
