  1. HHN doesn't own the rights to the IPs either, until the get the rights to use that IP that year. That's why people say things like "The New Line Deal" or talked about Universal's history with Sony when Evil Dead was being speculated on. Or why Jimmy talked about the problems with getting the rights to do AWIL as a maze. Did you think Universal just owns the rights to all of the IPs they use without having to acquire them by asking the production companies? So...if IP houses are easy and draw in crowds, why don't more haunts use them?
  2. There is an art to faithfully recreating a movie's sets and characters in a way that make sense for a HHN style attraction. It's not the same kind of challenge as making an original house, but it's certainly a challenge of the same caliber. If IP mazes were really easier to make than originals, don't you think that more haunts would be doing them? It clearly brings people into the gates, so if it's so easy to do it why do a minority of haunts even bother to try?
  3. Great American Nightmare soon.

  4. I hear it all the time, but I can't believe that people honestly believe that building a great IP house is "easy." Nothing screams "I've never made anything worthwhile" like being so ready and willing to say making something like a HHN quality IP house is easy. Criticism is one thing, but to say something you've clearly never done nor could do is "easy" shows some gross levels of ignorance and arrogance.
  5. Chainsaws, while off, do not make a sound. When they go from on to off, they make a sound. That's how you make a sudden sound that isn't audible from a mile away, because it wasn't made before it was near you. Chainsaws can be turned off and then on to become a sudden sound that startles.
  6. I don't think stealth is the goal for chainsaws in scarezones/street experiences. You know, different tools used for different scares. But you can easily sneak up on somebody with a chainsaw, since they do have an off mode. It happens pretty often. My point was that with most people, chainsaws are popular, effective, and welcome. Therefore, parks are likely to keep them.
  7. Until most people say chainsaws are over, chainsaws are going to stay. Don't be such a melancholy spirit, Agalloch.
  8. It's a lofty target since so many of the creatures are huge (even by HHNO standards) but if it's done well it could be killer.
  9. Dead Space is the most obvious next choice to me.
  10. Haunted hayride was a LOT of fun.

  11. The Haunted Hayride gave me better scares than all of the mazes at KSF combined. Great night.

  12. Haunted hayride in LA tonight!

  13. At Knotts I had a lot of the cast touch us on purpose. It was annoying. I know that accidents happen, but these people were clearly trying to do that instead of doing a decent scare.
  14. Knotts was mostly terrible.

  15. From what I've seen, they took a lot of artistic licence with the rooms. But it looks pretty terrifying.
  16. Really? You seem more like a top to me.
  17. From his twitter... "8 main scenes in Resident Evil making it the shortest haunt this year, but rest assured those 8 scenes are epic!!" Not just one. All eight.
  18. You thought it was over, it's not over.

  19. See people? Can you wait until the event starts before complaining about the lack of front gate decorations?
  20. Hard to tell from a black and white video with possibly unfinished elements...but I think some of the scareactors may have turned up the energy a bit too much. But it's a while (not too long but a while) before the event starts so we'll see. Sets look nice though.
  21. I just remembered something. After all of the houses had been confirmed/leaked somebody from Alabama said this in July. There's a few possibilities, but I have a theory about La Muetra. The park was putting out false information to employees to try to see if certain employees were spilling info out to their friends. Or the guy could have just heard La Llorona and translated that to La Muerta/Mexican Halloween theme in his head. He did think that they had psycho nurses in Resident Evil, so the latter is possible. But if USO is feeding false information to see who is being a loudmouth that's clever.
  22. Thanks. There's some unfortunate technical difficulties with the podcasting thing...we might just have to rerecord. But oh well. I'll try to keep updating it with horror stuff.
  23. http://ghoulsgutsandgloves.blogspot.com/ It's a blog I started up to talk about various things relating to horror. Part blog part podcast. Podcast element coming up as soon as this upload finishes...it's a preview for HHNH2013 so I figured you all would be interested.
  24. Survivor scareactors are probably too busy fighting off walkers to stop and chat. I would be at least.
