  1. I did see the show a few times. I liked it, but I didn't love it. I found Penny a bit eye roll-inducing...most of her material was okay to pretty good, but her delivery was So. Freaking. Deliberate. My thoughts: Stop over-enunciating, speak at a normal pace rather than slowing it down unnaturally, relax a little and trust the audience to follow along. I thought the rest of the show was pretty good. The tricks were fairly standard/easy to figure out, but I really liked both Tyler and Carl. Their presentation was a lot more natural than Penny's, and it looked like they had a good partnership.
  2. Well, I'm female, so my opinion doesn't entirely count. But my dad, a male friend and a male cousin said the same thing. It just seemed like she was too over the top in this character--if she had toned it down a couple of notches, it could have been really good. I was glad to hear that she's not normally with 20 Penny. I have a friend who hangs out with the 20 Penny guys sometimes, and she says their regular show is actually pretty refined and a lot better than what they did at Universal. So I'm curious to see it sometime. This definitely wasn't a must-do for me, but I enjoyed it overall.
  3. Just want to add my sincerest love and congratulations to all the scareactors this year. Cast A Pyramid Head, thank you for recreating the most epic scare I ever had then giving me a thumbs up. Cast A Alice Cooper jock, I will always remember the hand hearts and kisses blown and caught. Cast A ceiling guy, thanks for the Happy Halloween followed by a full performance of your traditional attack on me. My chainsaw girls, I was so sorry not to have caught up with you last night--of all the chainsaws I've loved over the years, you girls are at the top of the list. Cast A vampires, I only caught you for a fleeting moment last night, but thank you all for the personalized goodbyes. I agree that this was definitely the Year of the Scareactor. Though I bonded with some of you more than others on an individual basis, I never saw a single person who was not putting their absolute heart and soul into the experience. You guys are truly the reason that we all return year after year, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now go get some rest, and I'll see you all next year!
  4. WTF was up with so much merchandise still being full price after the event closed last night? It's been my long-standing annual tradition to buy whatever I really, really want early on, then hit the main gift shop for the leftovers after the last Bill and Ted. I didn't check price tags last night, because it's always been 50% off, but I was pretty surprised when four shirts rang up at $74 after my AP discount. Turns out 2 of the 4 weren't marked down at all, and the other two were maybe 1/3 off. Store manager told me they're packing up the leftovers and sending them to "the warehouse," instead of selling them off for cheap. So I only took the 2 that were marked down--I'm willing to pay $13 for a tank top that's three sizes too big, just for my collection, but not $27. Just thought it was bizarre--what are they going to do, sell 2012 merchandise again next year??
  5. To the closing cast Rampaging Frankenstein last night, thank you! I pointed you out to the people I was with, and slowed down just a little to see if I could catch your rampage. You saw me, did your thing, and came up in my face, despite the fact I was almost out of the room by that point. Awesome job!
  6. Saw the show again last night. They've definitely done some tweaks. Obama got a few lines back, and Romney's rap is now mildly funny. And Captain America is back to saying "Communist cakehole." Still not nearly as good as the original, but a definite improvement over last Sunday's version.
  7. A huge shoutout to Pyramid Head last night, just after 6:00. My dad and I were looking for him in his usual walkway, and he wasn't there. He was standing motionless in the corner, completely hidden in a shadow. As we rounded the corner, he put a hand in each of our faces. We're generally bullet proof--love the event, but very hard to scare. We both jumped back two feet! An epic scare! Also had a warrior get me a couple of weeks ago. I cut through by the bathrooms at Animal Actors. Nobody was around. As I got past the bathroom, a warrior came out of the bushes on the other side, directly in my face. I jumped at that one too.
  8. Long time lurker, first time poster here. Saw the new version last night, first show. I am beyond appalled, and so were the hundreds of others who complained last night. I am an Obama fan, but I could care less if the show skewed toward Romney. But now it's just not funny. It's like a big dead zone in the middle of the show, IMO. More to the point, though, I think Universal should take a lesson from Alice Cooper--never let anyone know you DIDN'T kill a chicken and drink its blood onstage. Bad press from Fox News is GOOD press for HHN. It's supposed to be controversial, and it's supposed to piss some people off. Some would come to find out what all the buzz is about. Some would come to heckle. Some would come to complain. Why cares? Their money's just as good as anyone else's. And yes, some wouldn't come at all. But how many of those "boycotters" would have come anyway, before the story broke? Just a guess, but I would imagine that the vast majority of HHN's audience isn't the same as Fox News' audience. And I'd also hazard a guess that the diehard fans will be the most upset by the changes, while the "one and done" visitors are most likely to either support them or not know the difference anyway. So, in my opinion, Universal's forgotten which side its bread is buttered on here.
