  1. HoS Williamsburg needed those 3 new haunts.  I went to the event in 2007 and again in 2012.  Two of the haunts (Deadline and Bitten) were the same.

That's one thing I love about HHN, it's never the same. I'm happy to have AWiL back this year. It's my #1 house and I scrambled to do it twice on the final night in 2013.  My girlfriend didn't go that year and she loves the film.

Since I didn't have the money to start attending until 2012, this year is all about catching up.  Feel sorry for y'all  who have seen all this before, but I finally get to experience Run, Body Collectors, Psychoscareapy, and meet the Caretaker and Director!

Speaking of those two, I went back and watched their promos for HHN 12 and 13. Man those were so well done. I remember seeing those ads as a teenager and freaking out. They still hold up today.

  2. I feel bad for HHN-Hollywood based on that list.

Also in Mike's list he said they are listing properties for next year...so, another IP year next year. Jesus.

I kind of went at Mike a bit on his personal twitter - check all his recent replies - but he indirectly admitted that there's (unfortunately) more at play than just him, suggesting corporate is up his ass.

Read the post and thought it was a little much.  I share your disappointment with IPs, but maybe going at the guy on Twitter isn't the right answer. Certainly thought you had good points...still, you should be taking it out on marketing, not Mike.

If anything, I think Mike is the only reason we get any original content.  Without him, it'd be all IPs.

  3. The name Bloody Mary was trademarked for use in haunted attractions. It is a standard trademark, meaning it does not require specific imagery just the use of the name. (Which I still find to be ridiculous, and shows a complete lack of creative integrity. No one should own the name of an urban legend/myth/folklore.)

Urban legends and myths are public domain, and should remain so. No one owns the rights to Krampus. Legendary will own the rights to their particular interpretation if Krampus.

Here is a list of other potential creatures that could be used in a Dark Christmas/Krampus house.

Gryla is wicked! Don't see Uni ever using Black Pete. Imagine that PR nightmare.

  4. This could be a decent IP year if The Walking Dead is left out. Kraumpus, Crimson Peak, Hitchcock, American Horror Story, and Dr. Who all make for interesting properties. I know nothing of the latter, but looking through this list, http://www.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/doctorwho/characters/aliens/ , has me intrigued. Still holding out hope for Treehouse of Horror, The Shining, Hellraiser, or Twin Peaks one of these years.

What's the consensus on IP to original content ratio this year? Half and half? It'd be nice to have one year without IP's, but I fear those days are long gone.

  5. Here's an idea...

What if Universal decided to sell a Skeleton Key type of access pass? It'll give you access to an exclusive room at the beginning of the house which sets up the story. Each skeleton key room is an introduction to the house by one of the former mascots. At the end of the presentation, you are scared into the house where the line has been held to allow you to go through the maze mostly alone with the skeleton group.
