  1. That's what A&D does.. or at least used to do, but on a much larger scale. Unfortunately, we don't have that same type of scale anymore and the fact that the postcards were also posted on facebook by Universal lets you know that any clues found within them are as easy to find as looking for something in the shallowness of a kiddie pool. Aka- it has to be understandable for the common FB trash that normally wouldn't have been found spending hours playing on the old interactive websites. I wouldn't read too deep into things, the old ways of HHN are gone (for now).. their won't be a lot of depth as far as clues go. Its just winks/nods. But hopefully after 3 years of IP fumbles, the higher ups will let A&D be back in full control of the event. Unfortunately, some of the people that gave us the best stuff aren't really part of A&D anymore or have been pushed aside by Aiello/Braillard..
  2. yea....no. Its all pretty much related to DE 2.0 ....expecting anything "more" is just a tad obsessive. The event will never be 2005, 2008, or 2009... Until you see the website have a link to something more interactive, you're just grasping at straws. There will need to be a major shift in management before the event is ever fully "themed" with a backstory again. ......and we're so close to HHN 30.... another 15 years will have passed & it will once again be the "Season of the Queen". But even I know better than to expect or believe they'll honor their legacy/tradition.
  3. Is there a reason why these new "Dead Exposure" related postcard tweets aren't being also posted in the actual designated "Dead Exposure" thread? Like seriously, whats the point of having house threads (and new content relating to it) if we're not even going to discuss all things related to that particular house in its own thread? Spec should be for the stuff that isn't announced yet. ....i'm old. Get off my lawn.
  4. Here is the scarezone from HHN Hollywood 2013 when they were basically promoting the new "Curse of Chucky" movie Chucky takes over HHN Hollywood's twitter: "Hi...I'm Chucky...wanna play? ..I'll be your friend to the end!.. I used to have a show at Halloween Horror Nights, but those bastards took it away from me! I've been waiting...and waiting... AND WAITING! I'm through with waiting! I'm coming back!!!! If they won't give me my show back... I'll crash theirs! Time for the CURSE OF CHUCKY!!!! I couldn't help noticing there's a cute little toy store on BAKER STREET...I hear they're getting a shipment of GOOD GUY DOLLS! Hmmm... I hear the LAKESHORE STRANGLER has been hanging around, when he isn't frequenting that VOO DOO shop down the street.... Heee Heee Heee... this seems like as good a place as any to take my revenge!!! Time we put the CURSE OF CHUCKY on HHN! AHHH HA HA HA HA HA!" So much recycled props and very little effort made in Hollywood that year for this scarezone. The quality is terrible. But thats what happens with John Murdy at the helm.
  5. Midsummer Scream Horror Made Here: A Festival of Frights presentation Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood gives a sneak peek of their Halloween event Sunday - July 29th (1:30 PM - 2:30 PM)
  6. Midsummer Scream Six Flags Magic Mountain's Fright Fest presentation Saturday - July 28th (3:30 PM - 4:30 PM)
  7. Midsummer Scream Queen Mary's Dark Harbor presentation Sunday - July 29th (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)
  8. Midsummer Scream Knott's Scary Farm presentation Saturday - July 28th (12:30 PM - 1:00 PM)
  9. Two songs that need to be played in this SZ are.... As a remix of course... Remix not necessarily required and we'll just throw this one in for good measure just because haha...
  10. again... the MIB/Coke plaza crowding issues is NOT an issue when it is just a roaming horde of scareactors. They've never had a legit fully themed scarezone back there, and that is fine. A handful of roughly 8-10 zombies or chainsaws works wonders because there is no scenery required. The area around FFL has never and will never be used for a scarezone. The closest you'll ever get is the Chainsaw Brigade passing through to get to their next stop, which would be San Francisco, then NY, then Hollywood, etc I doubt you'll ever see the London Waterfront used for a scarezone. It'd be nice, but doubtful.
  11. Short answer? No. because they've had SZs in 2 of those locations. FFL just doesn't have the space or the need since it is the main show location. As for San Fran & MIB, they've both had SZs official & unofficial in years past. In 2008, they had a zombie brigade in the MIB/Coke plaza. Another year, chainsaws (technically the Chainsaw Brigade would also stop in this area for fun as well). San Francisco (aka-Supercharged), has had actual official SZs in the past but also have had random chainsaws in the area like in 2007 to tie into the TCM house. Basically, it all just comes down to laziness, budget, and higher-ups...
  12. @Gambit You should go one step further with the Slaughter Sinema wallpaper. Instead of VHS' for the other houses, you should make each VHS next to the tv be for one of the B-Movies. That'd make it more exclusive & unique
  13. Funny story about TenThirtyOne... (first of all, i skimmed that article, but not surprised by what i read)... so in 2015, I saw a scareactor audition ad for LA Haunted Hayride. The event had a cool looking logo & the map made it seem like a decent haunt event So before I passed the audition process & got cast, I did a quick brief interview for a "STAFF" position as well just in case I didn't make the cut. That is where the epic lies began. The dude doing the interview hyped the shit out of the LA Haunted Hayride event & got me all excited. It was complete trash.... So my "costume" fitting was at a storage space in Glendale. They didn't exactly have a wardrobe that fit. They said they'd take jeans & stuff in for a better fit. Didn't happen. I ended up having to use a safety pin to make the pants fit. On top of that, they did NOT wash these costumes every night like other haunts would. So if you sweat a lot that night, guess what? by the time the weekend was over, your costume would smell rank. As for the haunt itself... ugh. Only 2 "rehearsal" days. However, that first rehearsal day consisted of nothing outside of seeing the different maze locations & whatnot. But thats not even the best part. The event started THAT weekend and NOTHING was even remotely close to being completed. Worse than what we've seen at HHN with last minute stuff. I wish I had taken pics because it was mind-blowingly beyond amateur hour. The maze I was cast in was "Trick or Treat" (not to be confused with the maze we're getting at HHN this year). It was a legit circus style picnic tent (not the quality tents we see at HHN or other haunts). Our maze was supposed to be a neighborhood consisting of front doors... You'd think John Murdy created it because it was all just plain black walls & front doors, literally one big loop around the inside of the tent with 8 doors in the center. It had an "alley" (which was my terrorory) to get to the other 4 doors.. Our maze lacked set details & scares. The worst part was, the event began in like 4 days. Our 2nd "rehearsal day" was the day before the event started and NOTHING was still finished. The entire event was pathetic. We still lacked set details except for a few minor cheap halloween decorations here/there but nothing exciting. I could've easily gone to Party City and spent about $20-30.. and it would've improved our maze 100%. The entire event was terrible quality. The people who run it are a complete joke. Also, we were all the ONLY cast for each maze & the hayride itself. So we had no set times with someone to tag us out every 30-45mins. If you had to go to the bathroom, you had to run to the porta-potty & run back. Thats how it was every night. We didn't get breaks. It was a terrible experience. And the prices they charge for the event is ridiculous. I'll see what pics I have & make a thread. But yea... TenThirtyOne... ugh.. OKAY NOW BACK TO DARK HARBOR
  14. Actually... thats not true. A&D planned on having Cindy be the icon for HHN XX... Hence why she finally had her own house. It was all centered around her bringing the icons back for the 20th anniversary. ....Howl-o-Scream has had shirts for their original houses in the past. Universal still hasn't learned this concept. Notice how they'll also neglect scarezones as well?
  15. Back when the Simpsons ride was being created, FOX & company wanted to do a Halloween version (aka- Treehouse of Horrors-esque) so that the ride could have a new overlay experience during the haunt season. Universal apparently told them "NO", because they wanted to wait until the popularity of this new ride died down before doing anything "extra". Naturally, the hype for the Simpsons ride died a horrible death within a month after opening (it wouldn't get a 2nd wind until Kang/Kodos & Springfield was added). Sooooo what I'm saying is, you can thank Universal for killing the haunt season version of The Simpsons Ride. FOX wanted to do it, but Universal wasn't thinking ahead (like always). The ride was also meant to be 3D, but clearly that conversion hasn't seen the light of day. Womp womp.
  16. Two years ago, they presented the "horror made here" studio tour... last year, added the extras... this year will be a full blown haunt event. And yes, this is a direct middle finger to Universal considering it is literally in their own backyard. Also raises some questions about certain WB IPs people expected to see at HHN this year or future years.. Its nice to see us FINALLY get that Arkham Asylum maze. Remember, WB already tested the DC waters at Fright Fest the past few years with the Suicide Squad. So it'll be cool to see what they do with this. Another thing you have to keep in mind with them going full haunt.... they have an advantage HHN Hollywood doesn't... soundstages...
  17. Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood This Halloween season, get ready for the most terrifying event in Hollywood with the return of Horror Made Here: A Festival of Frights. We’re transforming the iconic backlot into a bone-chilling experience where some of Warner Bros.' greatest horror movies and interactive entertainment will come alive. This year’s event will host even more dark mazes, scare zones, horror-themed activities, and plenty of food and drinks available throughout our creepy carnival. WB STUDIO TOUR HAUNT EVENT <-----CLICK HERE Two Announced Mazes: Stephen King's "IT" & DC's "Arkham Asylum" MORE DETAILS COMING SOON....
  18. Then clearly you didn't attend the event in 2013.... We had zombies in EVERY house in some way shape or form except for HAVOC 2.0.... and lets not forget the entire scarezone line-up was strictly TWD... But 2 zombie houses... oh its possible. 2013 had TWD and Resident Evil..
  19. ^well this is the most inaccurate description of all time.. The water vortex was the FIRST thing you entered, NOT the exit of the house. The obvious way to know and remember this would be because the house used PF's queue... which was permanent/built in.. There was even props & hangy shit within the vortex tunnel (see pic below) One of my friends was a scareactor in this house, so I know it very well and have seen "lights on" pics. And yes, the vortex ran all night every night for the event. Just like normal park operations, it'd get turned off at the end of the night. They got a cast pic one night standing in the tunnel when it was shut off, all the water came down on them. The house used the same exit as normal PF operations. And it did actually have a little back-n-forth action due to the wider hallways. The "hibernating dwellers" (yes that was their names) had mineshaft-like wooden booholes to pop out from within that wide exit hallway (this was my friend's area).
  20. My experience being mostly HHN... but also many home haunts, smaller haunt events, and even cedar point's halloweekends.. my review for last year is pretty much how my experience went. I'm not going to hold back when it comes to reviews... i'll praise it where it deserves, rip it to shreds if it needs to be. I don't care if a maze has been there for more than once or not, if its good its good. But it all depends on the scareactors to sell it. I had low expectations, the event was better than expected.
  21. Treaks & Foons also appeared in 2007 in Shrek Alley... so that makes more than twice. Personally, I wouldn't put too much thought into it..
  22. It wasn't exactly a while ago, it was this past sunday And their mentioning it is due to the fact that it is basically the scarezone version of 2011's "H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror" house only with 2 of the holidays changed. And also... that is not accurate. Hollywood tends to announce the scarezones all at once when the website gets its full update, unless there is a specific reason for announcing it separately. The only reason we got ONE of the scarezone themes announced is due to "Stranger Things" being announced, so they didn't want to take away the hype from that. Also, keep in mind.. mazes tend to get scrapped at any time when dealing with IPs, so its safer to announce a scarezone. Hollywood doesn't need an incident like Orlando had with Scream/The Purge.
  23. ~MAZES~ Six Flags Magic Mountain had an impressive 7 mazes for their event, even if their locations are all on one side of the park. Now I didn’t do the mazes as many times as I would have liked, but that's what happens when you have great coasters with no waittimes! Easy distraction lol. Anyway, I was very curious to see what kind of quality I’d find from the mazes at this event since most of my haunt experience has been at Universal’s HHN event for the past 13 years. The closest thing to Fright Fest I had been to was Cedar Point’s “Halloweekends” back in 2003 (which I did enjoy). So I was looking forward to experiencing the Fright Fest mazes. For the most part, I was NOT disappointed at all... VAULT 666 (3 times) This was a really cool maze that actually pulsed the line due to two “pre-show” rooms. It was meant to be a genetics lab where they were creating hybrid creatures or whatever. I don’t exactly remember the backstory, but I liked it a lot. It reminded me of HHN Orlando’s maze “HAVOC: DOGS OF WAR” in 2010, only this was less “super-soldier milItary” & more “Resident Evil Umbrella Corp”. The set details were pretty great & had some fun effects, as well as a lot of air blasts. Definitely one of the better mazes & had some decent scares. TOYZ OF TERROR 3D (3 times) Oh no, the dreaded 3D maze of doom! This actually was one of the better mazes at the event, as well as one of the better traditional 3D mazes I’ve ever been through. Like VAULT 666, this maze featured a “pre-show” room before letting you loose. The set details were amazing, even all the artwork on the walls (as well as floor) was amazingly well done. It was very impressive. THIS HAD A SPINNING VORTEX TUNNEL OF DOOM!!!!! There was even a few ramps & lopsided tilted floors too! There were a few scenes that reminded me of HHN Orlando’s 2009 maze “Child’s Play: Friends Till The End”. I really enjoyed this maze a lot. A few good scares to be had too! RED’S REVENGE (2 times) This maze was tucked away backstage, but the quality of it was pretty damn awesome! There was so much set detail to be found within this maze it made me want to do a photo-tour . Like the other two mazes, this one also had a pre-show room, which was a fun little backstory video. This maze was so twisty as far as its pathway goes, it was a little disorientating, but in a good way. Quite a few scares, but so much set detail! The ending was very similar to HHN Orlando’s maze “Scary Tales: Once Upon A Nightmare” from 2008. Instead of encountering the Evil Queen looking down upon you from her tower, it was Little Red Riding Hood herself. I absolutely loved it! Wish I had done this maze more times. DEAD END (1 time) So this was the NEW maze for this year and it was trying a new-ish concept. It was a maze in complete darkness with only an effects-driven flashlight that would turn off at times, become a blacklight, red light etc randomly. I know Knott’s Scary Farm attempted something similar with their “Trick or Treat” maze this year, but I didn’t get a chance to go down to their event this year HHN Orlando had done something a little similar with two of their mazes in the past (2005’s “TERROR MINES” & 2006’s “PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS: UNDER CONSTRUCTION”), except instead of a flashlight it was a construction helmet with a light. Basically a very early version of what was attempted with this maze. I only did this maze once & while it had a few good scares here/there, I wasn’t that impressed with it. I know that if they tweaked it heavily for next year, it might be better, but it was something “new” they were trying. It almost reminded me of HHN Orlando’s scarezone “NIGHTMAZE” from 2011, only as a maze. WILLOUGHBY’S RESURRECTED (3 times) This maze had a decent facade and some pretty great set details. The scareactors were good too, some more interactive than others. One scareactor reacted to my HHN Hollywood event hoodie that says "Come Play With Us" by saying "Stay! We'll play with you!" Got a few scares here/there. Due to its “mansion” setting, it reminded me of HHN Orlando’s maze “SCREAMHOUSE: RESURRECTION” from 2006. This maze had some nice tall sets, but a few empty spaces that could’ve been retooled. CHUPACABRA (2 times) This maze was probably the weakest, but maybe slightly better than “DEAD END”. It felt like it suffered from a budget cut, but still had a few decent set details while the rest of the maze was like an after thought. I did however get a few good scares while going through, but as I said this was kinda “meh”. I’d say this will be replaced next year. AFTERMATH 2: CHAOS RISING (4 times) OMG! This maze was THE BEST maze of the event! It was by far my favorite! It was an outdoor maze with some really great set details! Great lighting, effects & a flamethrower! This was a virus outbreak zombie maze set in the city of Ash Valley & it even had a military vibe too. It even had a few alternate pathways! A little disorienting like Red's Revenge! It was a LONG maze with great scareactor talent. I would’ve killed to do a photo-tour of this maze. I hope this is back again next year because it really was amazing! ~SHOWS~ So the event had two shows & a DJ area (Club 6-Feet Under)... Now I never did make it over to the DJ area, but each time I passed by, it was pretty uneventful over there. It was tucked away in the corner next to “Battle For Metropolis”, so it was fairly easy to miss. They also offered a new “Ghoulish Grub at the Pub” dining experience, but only 4 select Saturdays in October, so didn’t get to check that out either night. There was a “hypnotist” show in the Golden Bear Theatre, but I skipped it. As for the entertainment that was NOT to be missed... VOODOO NIGHTS This was by far one of the best entertainment offerings for a haunt event & it was continuous throughout the night! It featured a DJ, a live drummer, dancers, & occasionally a live band. Now I never got to see the band perform, BUT I did get to enjoy the “Voodoo Dolls” do their thing. They even had costume changes. The guys were hot, the girls were sexy, and the music was enjoyable. It was very much a party atmosphere. I loved this continuous show. Was able to get a pic with the Voodoo host & the drummer! ~OVERALL THOUGHTS~ Even though I only got to attend the event two nights, I definitely enjoyed my first “Fright Fest” experience. Can’t wait to go again next year! Now due to my unfamiliarity with the event, I did miss “THE SURGE” where the monsters are let loose at the beginning of the event back in the DC Universe area. I also missed “ESCAPE”, similar to HHN Hollywood’s “Chainsaw Chase-Out”, but with all the monsters invading Demon’s Door for you to pass through on your way out. The great thing about Fright Fest though is that only the mazes require an upcharge fee, so it’d be very easy to just go & enjoy the streets a few nights since the event is included with park admission (minus the mazes of course). I’m bummed I didn’t get a hoodie or a tshirt, but I definitely will next year. While a haunt event at a Six Flags park tends to be the butt of every joke, I will say that I was very impressed with what I experienced. Definitely a worthwhile way to spend a night or two during Haunt Season! My only real complaint, aside from the lighting that I mentioned earlier, is the complete under staffing as far as scareactors go. Obviously its not easy to staff events like this, especially when you have bigger competing haunt events needing scareactors too. Then of course there is budget. If Magic Mountain could double the amount of scareactors, they’d definitely be set. The event itself is well done for what they have to work with. Hopefully with the park becoming a year-round park, next year’s event can get the bigger budget it deserves. Eitherway, I will most definitely be making a few visits to Fright Fest 2018!
  24. SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN: FRIGHT FEST 2017 REVIEW One dark and stormy night, at an abandoned park up on the mountain of magic, a portal opened unleashing goblins & ghoulies from last Halloween, as well as demons that will make you scream! ....Okay, maybe not, but it sure sounded good! So after living in California since Summer 2014, I FINALLY got the chance to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain (childhood dream), but more importantly, for their “Fright Fest” event (thanks to my friend/coworker). It was so much fun! So lets skip the foreplay & get right into the review of this wickedly fun event full of fright! Having never been to the park before, I was completely unfamiliar with the layout, so I couldn’t find my way back up to the top of the Ninja hill! (womp womp) I had gotten the “Maze Pass with Express”, thinking that I’d be doing all the mazes multiple times like a typical night at Universal’s HHN event. Sadly I was mistaken because not being familiar with the park & the event map being a little vague on maze locations made my adventure of doing things take the entire night, AND I STILL MISSED ONE OF THE MAZES!!! (Epic Fail)... Thankfully I was able to go to Fright Fest a 2nd night in early October, this time without express, but with familiarity of the park (and maze locations). As I said, I had never been to the park before, it had been years since I had been on a legit coaster (sorry Mummy & Hippogriff) since moving here. Technically longer since I had been to Cedar Point, so while I was there for Fright Fest, my thrill ride nerd self kicked into high gear of “OMG!!! LOOK ITS ______! OH I HAVE TO RIDE THAT! OMG A REAL COASTER! OMG OMG!”. Obviously rides are a forbidden thing when attending a haunt event.... So yea, I was torn between doing rides & haunt stuff! I found a nice balance, but now I’ve had the taste of real non-3D simulator rides again and well... that monster has awoken! Anyway, back to Fright Fest... ~SCAREZONES~ I was actually pleasantly surprised to see Six Flags decorated for the haunt season, even in non-scarezone areas, even if it was just giant cobwebs. The fact that they made effort was awesome. I liked the set details, even if some scarezones were more minimal than others. A lot of the scarezones relied on blacklight effects, which was actually quite cool. There were 5 scarezones total, which isn’t a lot for a park of Magic Mountain’s size... The park itself definitely suffered a bit from being “too dark” in non-scarezone areas, which isn’t exactly safe for a park that is full of hills and/or stairs. I feel some atmosFEAR lighting would’ve gone a long way, as well as not make the 5 scarezones feel so far apart. As for the scarezones themselves, the lighting wasn’t too terrible, but could’ve been improved. To me, “darkness” doesn’t exactly equal scary, just annoyance. Don’t need it to be bright as day, but just not black as night. (yes I just Green Lantern'd this review). That is really the only issue I had in regards to the streetmosfear... DEMON’S DOOR This was the entrance scarezone. It featured two big demon statues & some rockwork style pillars. Very minimal as far as scenic goes. However, the scareactors found here were pretty great. Loved the prosthetic makeup & the fact that a few of the demons were sliders! The scareactor talent was very interactive & didn’t mind stopping for a photo before or after their next scare. I’d love to see flame effects in this scarezone because the random fame burst in the main fountain just wasn’t enough. TERRORTORY TWISTED This scarezone was steampunk inspired, obviously a nice fit for the new Twisted Colossus coaster, which also shares the same theme. There was some pretty nice gory props within the area. It reminded me of HHN Orlando’s “Saws N Steam” scarezone from 2010, only minus the chainsaws. It was a fairly decent scarezone, but it definitely needed more scareactors. Honestly, the normal name for this section of the park is "Screampunk District", so it already had a haunt style name lol.. SUICIDE SQUAD EXPERIENCE This was located in the DC Comics Universe area of the park, obviously. While it wasn’t much of a scarezone as it was a glorified photo-op with 4 of the characters from the film, they did have a few burned molten zombie-esque scareactors roaming around. They had a few wrecked/vandalized cars, some projection mapping & lots of fog scattered throughout the land. It was almost like HHN Orlando’s scarezone “Island Under Siege” from 2002, except lacking in the “scare” department (and NOT having a maze based on one of the villains). The characters themselves had designated photo-op areas too. You were able to get a pic with The Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, & Katana. All four were great portraying their respective characters. DAMNED ‘N DISGUISE So this scarezone was located in the Metropolis plaza directly infront of the new “Justice League: Battle For Metropolis” ride. It had a gimmick where it would “change before your eyes”, this of course was mostly pulled off with lighting, especially blacklights. While I was really excited for this scarezone concept, it left something to be desired. The scareactor talent was great & very interactive, but I just wasn’t impressed with the scarezone itself. If they bring it back next year, I think some tweaking to it will help. I was expecting something along the lines of HHN Orlando’s “7” from 2011 where the scareactors would evolve throughout the night with each set change. EXILE HILL The designated zombie scarezone on Ninja hill, aka "Samurai Summit"... Once again, the scareactor talent was very interactive. Yay for more sliders! There was even a hearse photo-op with the “Willoughby Zombie Chauffeur”. This scarezone was pretty much devoid of scenic, only giant cobwebs and minimal lighting & fog. NIGHTMARES- A TWISTED FANTASY This scarezone was definitely the most “themed” and was a blacklit glow-in-dark scarezone. It reminded me of HHN Orlando’s scarezone “Fractured Tales” & “Asylum in Wonderland” both from 2008. I really loved the scenic details of this scarezone & the scareactors were very interactive. It was awesome. I’d say this was probably my favorite & even when passing through without scareactors, it was still enjoyable. ...maze and show review below..
