  1. Just to throw it out there, I bought the deck of cards, the house shirt, and the limited edition pin at the Twister gift shop yesterday at about 4:30PM. I also saw the lady's tank top, the hoodie, the lanyard, the key-chain, the two shot glasses, and the icon shirt there as well. Basically, they had everything but the Annual Pass Holder pin (which can "only" be bought at the Universal Store within the park). It's all a matter of buying what you want ASAP, as a few members have already stated on this thread. If carrying around your merchandise for the rest of the evening is that big of a deal, then rent a locker for the night at the front of the park. It's like $10. Problem solved.

  2. Yes, but there's usually a second pin as well (likely one featuring our good Lady.)

There is a general release pin. There was a picture of it in the Employee Preview event guide. The style of the pin is very similar to the Rockabilly style of the shot glasses. I've yet to hear if there will be a guest artist pin this year though.

  3. That was me! I'm big on asking for permission first. Thank you for letting me take your photo!

You were a perfect gentleman, and I have absolutely no problem posing for guests who act as respectful as you did. : ) I just really appreciate that sort of thing because I've spent the past three years dealing with snap camera flash assaults in the houses. I try to ask for permission as best I can when I go as a guest too. I felt bad for the actor who I kept calling Mrs. Bates in Horrorwood in 2009. He was a good sport about it though. lol

  4. Just to clarify as well, I very much enjoyed going through this house last night. It's the one I most anticipated, and I'll definitely be going back through it every chance I get. I don't want anything in the house to be changed in the slightest, but I do wish that people's attitudes would improve regarding this specific concern. It does create a very immersive environment that is not as theatrical as I would have imagined, and I'm not talking about the Nightingales when I say this. They're obviously fictional, and guest perception has been crafted by Universal to feel exactly that way: not real. I'm talking about the actual trenches and setting, the sound effects, etc. I made my previous statement as a courtesy in a hypothetical situation. As cerebral as that is, I stand by it. It felt believable to me. Some parts more than others (won't get into it until the event opens), but overall it was enough for my after impression to be, "That felt very real."

  5. Employee Preview, Winter's Night: Haunting of Hawthorn Cemetery... First of all, this house is just exquisite. Secondly, the scares are intense. To the Weeping Angel at the very beginning of the house (and at about 12:50AM), you sent a chill down my spine. Not a single person is going to legitimately know whether or not you are real, which makes you seriously terrifying in my book. A big shout out to the girl in the hallway that had a miniature 3D landscape model visibly behind the crypt wall (also around 12:50AM). You got me really good. I was the first one in my group, and I stopped to peer through a hole in the bricks once we got into your hallway. I literally said, "Oh, WOW, look at that. A miniatur," and then you came up from below and popped your head in front of the break. I screamed and jumped back. lol Great, great scare! : )

  6. Gluttony will be purple rather than orange, based on the look of the stage she may be a tad bulimic!

Glad I'm not the only one who got that impression. lol That yellow is... honestly disgusting. Coordinators, please keep the drunks away from that stage. No need to give them any ideas.

Checkout the closed Construction thread if you haven't seen the most recent pictures of the platforms... you'll see what I'm talking about.

  7. Hmmm. I'm assuming the audio loop is from a recognizable, "popular' horror film. One presumably released during Generation Y (which ranges anywhere from the 1975 - the early 2000s). Could you maybe narrow it down a bit? HUGE movie nerd here, so I will probably get it right away...but I always enjoy a good guessing game before the event starts. Or maybe PM me a few more hints if you wish.

Perhaps not something made in their generation, but something they would be of age to appreciate upon conception.

Would this be a horror film from the 2006-ish time frame?

  8. I will say this... We have a very interesting background audio loop. A large portion of it should be recognizable for most Generation Y horror enthusiasts. Props if you know it right away because it even took me a few minutes to nail it.

  9. I am happy for the fans who wanted a simple, cheaply priced zip up. You got what you wanted, and that's nice considering that the community doesn't get much consideration when it comes to merchandize. I hope you guys make some sort of dent in sales to prove to Universal that hoodies are a worthy venture for HHN.

It's personally disappointing because I like flashier designs when it comes to specialty apparel. If I'm paying good money for a piece of clothing, I want strangers to stop me and be like, "That's an awesome xyz! Where did you get it? What does it mean?" And, I'm sorry, but $35 is good money to me.

In comparison, I'm loving Howl-O-Scream's hoodie this year. The front is simple but not so simple that it's boring. I changed my mind at the last minute about the 2010 Hollywood hoodie and bought a black Universal Orlando hoddie with pink cursive across the front instead. Could not be happier with that decision. Hoodies are more novelty collectibles to me than actual clothing. I don't buy them to keep me warm, I buy them for the intrigue, shock value, and aesthetics. I buy the pins for nostalgia. And that's what this topic really comes down to: a balanced scale of opposing values, neither more important or validated than the other. It's a personal preference.

To me, this is a mediocre product with a last minute decision style, much like the one from Hollywood last year. Universal obviously met their quota though, or else it wouldn't be rearing it's endearing head here in Orlando this year. So for two years in a row, they've used the same design for this product. And just to clarify, we don't know how well it actually did with the general public last year.

Now, I was a South Florida teenager just a short while ago, and when it came to hoodies and t-shirts all I cared about was cool looking band apparel. The louder, the better. I had a Bob Marley hoodie covered in pins, patches, spikes, and whatever other random crap I could get my hands on. You needed earplugs just to chance a glimpse at the damned thing. This HHN hoodie is the antitheses. It's not what the majority demographic of the general public is going to reach for on the shelves. These teenage and young adult males are going to go for the Rockabilly shot glasses. Alcohol is one of their biggest forbidden and favored fruits. It's got a skull, dice, and a well endowed lady on it; ergo, its the coolest thing since sliced bread for them.

This is what I DON'T want to see happen: just enough people buy this hoodie to reach the year's minimum quota and the design keeps getting recycled because of that. I don't want it to be 2015 by the time we get an alternative design, but to play the loyal consumer game in order to get better merchandize further on down the line is unfair. Why can't it be great now? This isn't even really a game of You Can't Please Everyone. The community is obviously split down two different value systems.

I genuinely hope that this testing of the waters results in timely and beneficial actions for everyone. If it's just fluff, all the more disappointment. : (

  10. I'm not bitching about it, I'm just simply stating my opinion. And I don't think anyone is being ungrateful, everyone just expected something different than what was produced. Five bucks says the people who REALLY want one will end up buying one regardless.

Sure a hoodie is a good addition to the merchandise selection. Was it something that I've been dying for or absolutely needed as a vital piece of my wardrobe? Nope.

Am I willing to part with $40 dollars of my hard earned money for one? Probably not.

I think it's great that everyone who wanted a hoodie now finally has one to purchase. However, again, I think people just expected something a little flashier perhaps?

I agree with Hush, Legacy, Aaron, and the others who think that this hoodie is disappointing... Blasphemy, yes, but I'm loving Howl-O-Scream's hoodie in comparison.

This hoodie started in Hollywood last year. I found out about it last October (thanks to this site), went to the Universal store, and almost placed the order for it. I changed my mind at the last minute and bought a black Universal hoddie with pink cursive across the front instead. Could not be happier with that decision. I consider myself an armchair seamstress and crafter, and I think that even I could make something better than this thing, and mostly by hand too. Right now, my Joann's has neon colored hoodies marked down to like $3.99. Use a 40% or 50% coupon for the fabric paint, and you've got all your supplies for about $6.00 with tax. You do need a steady hand to write Halloween Horror Nights, but with practice that's the least of your worries. This hoodie would be more of a collectible for me than actual clothing. If I want or need something to keep me warm, I'm going to take that money and buy something thicker for my wardrobe.

  11. Actually most of it is out already. Hoodie is out as well.

Sounds like the pins aren't out yet. Merchandize said that the sku numbers haven't been released yet and that inventory isn't finished. Also good to know, the Universal Store doesn't have a line that can be reached by outside numbers.

  12. Stupid question... Will merchandize actually be for sale on Wednesday night? I've always worked Employee Preview, so I've never gotten the chance to see what's out in the Universal Store or what's on the side carts. I'm in the streets this year though, and we're done an hour sooner than the houses that night. If they're going to have stuff out, I think I might do my buying then instead of Saturday.

  13. YES, decks of cardddsss!!! I'm happy for those who wanted hats and hoodies as well. : ) May end up buying the hoodie instead of a t-shirt this year depending on how good the the designs are for each one. I'm a fan of having something on the back of it, and because I'm in a scare zone it's not like I'm dying to buy the house shirt, although the houses are fantastic this year. I've slowly come to terms with the fact that my swag budget and fun money is going to have to be about three times as much as it usually is. lol Just to explain, this is my first year going to Howl-O-Scream, first year doing Unleashing the Horror, first year going to VUDUCON, and I'm the kind of person who'd happily spend the rest of her life in t-shirts, jeans, and converse. And there's a lot of t-shirts to be had this year between HNN, HHN, HOS, and Legacy's Zazzle shop. Not to mention, I have a serious pin/button compulsion.... You know what, let's just say there's a reason why I actually work the event every year. Company money out, company money right back in. lol

  14. Anyone have anything they would liked asked tonight of A&D?

Things I want to know more about for this year:

    1. Is Universal going to take a consistent stance on no official tagline or back story for this year? I'd like to see this era remain as confusion free as possible.

    2. With the Poe House in Orlando and the Alice Cooper house in Hollywood, does this mean that we'll be seeing other individualized cross-idiom collaborations/homages for house and scare zone theming? These are singular artists being showcased, not just solitary pieces of source material (such as Asylum in Wonderland or Path of the Wicked). Would be great to see A&D keep going on this track and get even more creative with the wide range of horror-eque masterminds who they could honor.

Things I want to know more about in general:

    1. The recent pattern for iconic attractions within the event. Like, we had mostly houses in the Expansions and Iconic Era, but now in the New Age of Darkness we seem to be focused on scare zones. I want to know if we will see this progress to legitimate shows, large scale opening scaremonies, or other live theatrical performances in the near future. Or maybe there is some sort of fourth frontier on the horizon which we haven't yet guessed?

    2. This sort of ties into the first question. I truly loved this idea, which King_K. brought up in the Speculation II thread: have they ever considered rewriting the Beetle Juice show with new songs every year and having the show debut during HHN, keeping the routine year round until the following event's debut?

  15. The first pic reminds me of the "Dogs" from Ghostbusters.

Are you the Keymaster? : P

Is it me, or are those chairs in the 7 zone not going to last too long? They are wicker chairs...not the most sturdy pieces of furniture ever created. They look cool & I hope they last the whole run.Just sayin'.;)

Yeah, wicker... of all materials, go figure.
