  1. Huh? You never did the original, but felt this was a retread? And you'd prefer a "twist on an old concept" which is exactly what Ghost town was last year? Sorry, but your comment doesn't make any sense.
  2. Army of Darkness is trapped in rights hell. They will never make any reference to it in the new show, and if you watch Part 2 and then Army of Darkness you'll notice that they re-shot the ending of 2 for the prologue for 3. All kinds of crazy rights issues. They wanted to call the third one Medieval Dead which would have been the PERFECT name, but the distributor didn't want anything tying it to the first two (yeah, yeah, it's a continuation and all that, but Sam Raimi talks about it on the commentary track). Ash vs the Evil Dead has stuff from 1 (really only the roots segment) and 2 because it is "connected" to those films/rights and has no connections to 3.
  3. Semantics. The show has already gone back to the woods and the cabin. Pablo, the bar, the morgue, etc won't show up, but it will still tie in nicely to the show because of the locations from Evil Dead 2 all being covered. I'm sure they'll sneak in some eastereggs from the show (like a blender with a pink fruity concoction in it). And for anybody who's only seen the show, the cabin, necronomicon, the iconic car, the evil hand, the thing in the basement of the cabin, deer head, etc will all show up for them. They just might be confused why the house only included locations from 2 episodes and ignored the other 18 or whatever but it will still tie into the show.
  4. Uni wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole right now. MAYBE when the show has been off the air for x years and all rights have reverted back to Dimension Films they'll try again. But the show being on hiatus and being revamped doesn't mean they'd face any less trouble than last time.
  5. And get off my lawn! Only started going about halfway through the event's history...but old enough to say that
  6. I don't think Universal would add any full time haunt attraction...but if they did, updating it wouldn't be a concern. They didn't add the JP3 or Jurassic World dinosaurs to the JP ride. They didn't add Fantastic Beast stuff to Harry Potter Land (I'm assuming that's true, haven't watched the movies). They didn't add The Rock / Scorpion King to the Mummy Ride (assuming that came out after the ride was created). They haven't updated The Simpsons with whatever has happened on the show the last 5 years. (Ride makes me sick, so only went on it once...I assume Mrs Flanders or some other killed off character makes an appearance). They didn't add Josh Brolin to the MIB queue videos. Spider-Man, Transformers, etc, etc, etc. I just can't see them committing to an interactive ride/show type thing with 2 shifts of actors 365 days a year. Especially when the die hard fans of HHN complain about the return of American Werewolf in London so soon...even though it was a lot of people's house of the year. If the target audience gets sick of something showing up twice in a 2 year span, can't see them doing one permanently..... ...which points out the obvious flaw to my logic: Hollywood has one! Ummmmm, maybe it's the fact that it's never 100 degrees there (for the most part) and doesn't rain everyday causing costume and makeup issues, and actors are a dime a dozen and can be hired on the cheap, same with makeup artists, and, ummmm.... OK, I don't have a solid case for my argument. But doesn't change the fact that I can't see it happen Now, if they can do a VR experience around one of them, sure, can totally see that! Duration and space limitations restricting you from walking around would be a bit impossible...but some kind of independent chair ride, with VR goggles allowing you to look around at Zombies and stuff, and some kind of control stick to make the chair go up, down, left, right, forward and back (only like a foot, but the VR fooling you) to avoid Zombies or something wouldn't surprise me. Sorta like a Virtual Tummy ride like Simpsons, but on a much smaller scale like the screen on your goggles and you having the ability to control where you go. Been a while since I had a never-ending novel where I think through something while typing....
  7. They have a launch schedule optimized for the masses that they aren't going to deviate from. Everybody on the forums "already knows" and 85% of us are probably already committed to going this year like we do every other year. What's to gain by announcing it early? We've seen the photo capture, but Joe Sixpack hasn't. It's like when a movie is illegally leaked on a Torrent site, do they rush out the Blu-Ray of it for fear of losing money? No....because the people who illegally downloaded it weren't going to pay for it anyway. So there's no reason to deviate from the plan. Same here. Is confirming to us what (we think) we already know going to influence us at all? Nope. 95% of us already know if we're planning on going or not. They have a strategy of what they want to announce and when that will maximize exposure and get the news out to as many undecided's as possible in the exactly manner they want. Like the videos they use to announce the houses...maybe it's not done yet. Maybe they're waiting for the facade construction to be finalized so they can use it in the reveal. Maybe King is going to announce it at an event. Etc, etc, etc.
  8. I know there are loopholes...but I think this close to the Scream/Purge debacle it would have to be an iron clad deal. If King renounced the rights to the Kubrick movie, as I too have heard he's done, he still wrote the book and then made a mini-series years after the previous work. So he clearly has some kind of rights to IPs. If there was true King animosity towards haunts using his property in the past, which makes perfect sense given his hatred of some of the adaptations of his novels, I would think something as legally tricky as this would be something Uni would trip over themselves trying to run away from. It would just be tempting fate. He signed off on the new Dark Tower movie that isn't even based on a book (they're calling it a re-imagining pulling from all the books....guess they're rebooting it before it was ever 'booted' to begin with). Maybe he's just in the "cash grab" phase of his life His signature has to be on some dotted line if it happens.
  9. Not the first time something has been pre-announced by a travel agent, store display, employee newsletter, magazine, etc, etc, etc. Sounds 100% legit to me and adds a TON of legitimacy to the other leaked info since year after year it's been "King will NEVER sign off on a haunt" and for it to come through, that tells you they were sure in their list before publishing it knowing the ridicule they'd get for claiming a fanboy wetdream was coming (ummmm, bad choice of words).
  10. Can't remember if it was here or another forum, but I know there was some fear about an impending writer's strike... It went beyond the deadline but the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers came to terms on a new contract early Tuesday, defusing the threat of a strike crippling the film and television industry. The sides shook hands 90 minutes after the previous contract expiration deadline passed. The WGA had vowed to strike Tuesday if a deal was not in place. The guild's instant "pencils down" policy had meant that shows that work on a quick-turnaround — notably day-time soap operas and late-night talk programs like "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" — would be out of topical material immediately. If ratified by its members, the tentative deal will cover its television and film writers for three years. It addresses health care issues, parental leave and overtime payment among other sticking points.
  11. I will be SOOOOOO happy if Ash vs Evil Dead shows up. I didn't go the year they did Evil Dead, but it was based on the Ash-less remake so this making a "return" is about the same as calling a possible Halloween 3: Season of the Witch "another Michael Myers house" when there's no Shape in it. Evil Dead without Ash isn't Evil Dead at all Plus it's been a while since we had a truly funny dark comedy house and TCM showed us how chainsaws can be used in the houses so I think it's the perfect time to do it. And they better have a puppet/animation deer head. Just sayin... I also can understand why, from a marketing perspective, they'd name it Ash vs Evil Dead given the misconception that it's a return house from a few years ago (same with why to avoid Evil Dead II as the title)...and the series has delved into a lot of the key moments and characters of II so it kinda works from that perspective as well. I'm sure there will be a scene, character, or red bionic glove showing up to link it to the series. Now in 5 years they just have to do another house for Army of Darkness and call it "Medieval Dead" as they originally wanted to title the movie, but the studio shot it down. What a perfect title that would have been.
  12. After the insane new Thor trailer, I think we're going to get a Thor losing his hammer joke (viagra?) and with it and the new Justice League movie opening only 2 weeks apart, one of them is going to lose a considerable amount of potential customers. A Marvel vs DC thread will surely emerge from that. Jeff Goldblum looks ridiculous in the movie too, so I'd expect to see that costume appear. If they don't have TWD returning, I would expect a Negan character with a bright yellow wiffleball bat or something ridiculous like that. Or a Glenn appearance with spring eye glasses. So many jokes ripe for making in TWD, but with the permanent attraction in Hollywood maybe they won't make any of them, but I hope they do. I'm too old to get half of the pop culture references, so hoping for a few more that old people like me can pick up on
  13. I would love your fantasy of an all king event to be true, that would be awesome! I don't think HHN could possibly make any real difference with IT's boxoffice. The HHN commercials and stuff are so localized that it wouldn't mean much at all. The park itself during the day wouldn't do much for guests. As for HHN itself, I'd say that a safe assumption is that 50% of the people who attend are at least somewhat fans of horror movies and know who King is, what IT is, and are aware of the movie and pretty much already know if they're going to go see it or not. How many individual people go to HHN? I have no clue, but let's say it's 1 million. Between everybody that buys FFP, RoF, etc, etc, I'd say a majority of people on most nights are attending multiple times. Average price of a movie ticket is say $10. if every one of those people weren't going to see the movie before and were convinced to go see it, that would only add $10m to the whole gross. That's nothing. Yes, pulling the math out of my ass, but it illustrates my point. I believe the movie only cost about $30M, but the marketing budget and making all the prints (though many theaters are all digital now) and doing the dubbed or subtitled versions for foreign markets, etc, etc, etc will probably add another $30M to that. The rule of thumb is you have to double that total domestically to make a profit and international is mostly gravy. The Great Wall with Matt Damon cost $150M, made only $45M in the US, but nearly $300M overseas and the company still wrote down a $75M loss on the film. (http://deadline.com/2017/03/the-great-wall-box-office-china-hollywood-analysis-future-coproduction-xxx-1201938044/). A relatively small audience like HHN, who are already predominantly horror movie fans (and anybody going to the park during the day is already presumably a movie fan to a degree) isn't going to have much of an affect on the success of the movie.
  14. I was assuming one of 3 things based on your "big" and "not house related" hints: Return of the Parade Full park scare zone No scare zones at all "Uncharted Waters" doesn't seem to support any of my wild guesses. Well, maybe no scare zones. Not sure if they had them since the beginning. Queue up the "ZOMG! We're getting a Uncharted Video Game House!!!!!!" comments...
  15. Sept 28th better be a little mix up that they correct as that's the week we always go! I'd be pissed if it was only a 3-night weekend. And regarding FFP and ROF and Express and everything else, that's announced later. This is the "sucker time" where they try to see if anybody is anxious enough to pay full price 7 months in advance Last year I remember wondering about the ROF pass forever since the prior 2 years it was for the "first 10 days of the event". Last year they added a day and we were wondering if our pass wouldn't cover the last day of our trip. If I remember correctly, we had to sweat it out for a while before they updated with the multi-day passes and specified the dates ROF was valid for. Kinda disappointed that it's HHN 27. I thought 25 was a "one time thing" with not using the Roman Numerals....like how 16 did it since it was a special number that played into something. 26 and now 27. I would have prefered XXVII...but guess it's at least better than calling it HHN 2017.
  16. Charles was Scarlett O'Hara's first husband in Gone with the Wind. Scarlett is a redish color and Wind is the only noun in the movie title. Red Wind is a casino in Washington State. Casinos have slot machines. There's an online slot machine called Hell Raiser. We're getting a Hellraiser house! The clues never make sense until you look at them in hindsight...and then they are so tangentially related that it's a joke. It's even worse if it's a house you particularly want...as you can link any clue to any movie if you try hard enough: Killer Klowns from Outer Space was directed by the Choido Brothers. There are three brothers. The third letter of the alphabet is "C". Two of the brothers wrote the script. Only one of those two played a clown in the movie. Charles. We're getting a KKfOS house!!!!
  17. Pencil in the return of the return of American Werewolf in London... http://deadline.com/2016/11/an-american-werewolf-in-london-remake-on-way-max-landis-universal-1201850435/ An American Werewolf in London is officially getting a remake with The Walking Dead‘s David Albert and Robert Kirkman producing through their Skybound Entertainment for Universal Pictures. The remake of filmmaker John Landis’ classic 1981 comedic horror film will be written by his son Max Landis, who also is attached to direct. The news comes after the elder Landis and filmmaker Anthony Waller (An American Werewolf in Paris) sealed a deal with the studio on the rights. The younger Landis’ deal is being negotiated. Skybound has a first-look production deal with Universal. My quick no thought predictions: American Horror Story Ash vs Evil Dead Killer Klowns from Outer Space...in 3D (Why not? The cotton candy cacoons and outfits and stuff would lend themselves nicely to 3D) Trick R Treat Don't Breath. I didn't see it, but everybody loved the movie. It would have to have portions of the house that go completely dark (since you're in a conga line, following the herd shouldn't be a problem). Original #1 "Massacre Overdrive". Knockoff/tribute/interpretation of King's Maximum Overdrive Original #2 Something medieval like a masquerade party...with vampires. Repeat IP House - Was going to say Aliens v Predator since they redid AWIL when the puppet technology improved and Prometheus 2 is coming out in August with, allegedly, real Xenomorphs so Aliens with or without the Predators would make sense. But with the return of AWIL involving the TWD team Universal has worked with forever with hopefully all practical effects so it won't take months and months in post...if it's ready for Oct 2017 it wouldn't be a huge surprise for it's re-return. Requel - I think this might be a running thing for a while. Like everybody else, I hope it's a Nightingales follow up. Upcharge VR Experience: The Walking Dead. A little bait n switch when they don't announce the return of TWD...only to drop the bomb a month out that the VR experience this year will bring thousands of zombies...and actual characters from the event (Give Norman Reedus a few bucks to appear in the VR segment telling you where to go...then through out the experience zombies will almost get you just to have an arrow come out of nowhere right into their head). I didn't do the VR house so I have no idea what it was like...but I think they'll be changing it to an IP if they keep it since that will make a bunch more people sign up for it. Halloween has been skipping a year...so I'd expect Halloween III for 28. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Dead Man's Warf got it's own house (I would be thrilled).
  18. Not everybody can have your charming personality and be as pleasant company as you surely must be...complaining about every little thing you see. Regarding your comment that the lack of chatter on the forum indicating people are disappointed in the event is nonsense. This place goes nuts with speculation up to and including the final release, then a decent percentage of people disappear. Then once the event starts, the opening weekend people chime in and say all that can really be said without going into spoilers so people that go the second and third week, such as myself, just go off and hide for a bit so as to not ruin it for anybody else. Hell, you yourself said you were avoiding all topics until you went to the event...but halfway through the events run you were saying others doing the same were an indication of a crappy year.
  19. A professional photographer once told me..."Asking a photographer what kind of camera they used to take an amazing photo is like asking Leonardo da Vinci what kind of brush he used to pain the Mona Lisa...implying that the artist themselves had no skill and it was solely a result of the equipment used" Obviously, an $89 point and shoot camera from Big Lots is inferior to a $5,000 DSLR, but just buying a good camera, putting it on auto, and hitting the shutter button isn't going to get you anything good. And the difference between a $500 DSLR and $5000 model is minimal for most people...as far as the hardware is concerned, it's the lenses that make all the difference. Trust me...as someone trying to learn photography on the fly I've bought some expensive lenses, figured I had it made, and then was wondering my pictures looked like the same crappy ones I took with the kit lens It's a trial and error art and to be able to take that kind of photo, in those lighting conditions, as is really amazing. Or I'm just really bad at taking pictures...that's always a possibility... ============================================ Smartphones can take amazing photos...especially in low light. Their settings are to try to capture as closely to what the human eye sees and not concerned with detail and the like. Amazing photos for posting on Facebook. But if you want to print the results and are into photography and look at the details and lighting and everything it's like comparing Corvettes with the same style body and paint job with one having a 120hp 4 cylinder engine to one with a 500hp v8. A quick look on the surface might look comparable, but when you start looking at the details it's not even close. Also, look up Camera RAW. Taking pictures in that format opens up whole worlds of photo processing and you can turn crap into gold by manipulating it. It captures the raw data that the sensor captures and does minimal processing to the image and you can make all kinds of adjustments yourself. JPG images from your phone are already processed as soon as you click the shutter and you have no control over what your phone does. JPG is also a lossy compression where you omit captured data because it's "so similar" to pixels/data next to it that you initially dumb down the photo itself. Also, as far as resolution and megapixels, your phone might claim to have the same MP as a DSLR, but the image sensor in the phone is a fraction of the size of that in a full size camera body and that makes all the difference in the world. I've never taken a photography class in my life, but this is my idiots guide to photography as taught by real life trial and error. Ha ha ha
  20. Wasn't looking at my watch, but you have PLENTY of time. We went to the NBC Sports Bar for a drink or two, and then went back into the park like 15 min before closing (we were worried about when they'd stop letting people in) with no problems. They had the right gates lined up for HHN people, left gates had zero lines for people with day tickets.
  21. They've NEVER allowed Videos. Years ago we had a guide say something along the lines of, "If you want to take a quick 30sec video to show the transition from (this particular) room to room, that would be fine." When asked what the deal was, they elaborated "This tour is considered a performance, and much like other performances (think it was only Bill and Ted and the one magic show that year), this particular performance is for this group only so we cannot permit recordings" or something along those lines. Rumors are it wasn't a particular IP that raised hell (they'd have substituted Chance or Tomb if that were the case or "due to multiple venues having the rights to Krampus we're unable to permit photos during the UTH tour" clause and remove that one or, "Due to the current running TV shows of TWD, AHS, or The Exorcist we have to restrict photography") but rather the context of pictures being taken, the fear of complaints/litigation/whatever from multiple IPs, and HHN itself opting to go scorched earth. The forums hinted at that, but someone that I think would have been in the know mentioned that when we were at the event (as well as a LOT of budget cuts this year which I personally couldn't notice, so maybe they were full of crap). I'm a nobody that is a 22 hour drive away from the event so I don't know anything about anything, but just passing on what I read and what I heard from what I'd consider a "reliable source" that I won't even hint at. It was too easy for HHN to make up some bullshit excuse that, "Due to current TV obligations, pictures in AHS/Exorcist houses are not permitted" and given the whole Scream fiasco it would have been completely believable. The fear of xxxxxx (litigation, refusal to have houses at the event, whatever) had the powers that be worried enough that pissing off people and giving 33% refunds (based on the number of people who punched out on my tour) was the lesser of 2 evils. I'd expect the picture option to be back next year with some new signed contract with IPs along the lines of "Your houses are the property of HHN while the event runs and we reserve the rights to generate revenue based on the houses...any photos, depictions, whatever of the houses are the responsibility of the photographers/videographers/etc and Universal bears no liability for the context in which they are used" or whatever legal bullshit mumbojumbo they need to include. And yes, I received the survey today and I never took so much time and effort filling out an online survey before
  22. Some time on Sat...I don't see the original post on their FB anymore, but they posted this at 8:30pm on Sat night: http://blog.universalorlando.com/visiting-us/hhn26-hurricane-matthew/
  23. AHS has the longest wait by far...followed by TWD and then randomly Chance's house when Bill & Ted's gets out. If you are staying at Finnegans, they force you to TWD first so that's good. I'd do that first, and then go clockwise around the park hitting them in early. Then, by the time you get back to AHS and the start of that strip those lines should be dying down from the initial rush. Obviously you know to do Halloween BEFORE Tomb of the Ancients because of how the lines feed out. Also, the theme of this year seems to be that other than AHS, house wait times are GREATLY exaggerated. You might want to consider doing the order I said and then if it's really busy, see about the After 10 Express Pass option just to be sure. I have a feeling with it being a week later than I went, and then people who flew down for 4 days and weren't able to go a couple days because of the hurricane will be FLOODING to the event on Sunday...plus Monday is probably a school holiday. So it's anybody's guess what that's going to do to the lines.
