I have a couple of questions about some of the set pieces in this house. There is at one point, a mummy, a man holding a severed head, and something rotted in a hanging cage. Does anyone know what these pieces are referring to? Also, in the room with the staircase, there is a large portrait of a dark-haired woman, behind which appears a ghostly blonde woman (or at least I think, I've only seen it once or twice). This reminds me of Ligeia, but I'm not sure if that's what it is referring to. I guess this could also be a scene reflecting Poe and the loss of his wife, since there is a ghostly lady in the room as well.
Yes, the portrait gallery holds a painting of Poe's wife Virgina. He says her name and then the painting reveals Virginia's corpse.

Last night, I noticed that the ops acted exceptionally well! I never really had that bad of an encounter with one.

Thursday, September 29th
*I apologize, for I never noted what casts I went through.
The In-Between Demons: Y'all were great last night, especially the one in the dorm room finale! Great scares!
Nevermore Raven: The first raven in the hallway got a great scare from me!
BloodenGutz Pilgrim: I'm a bit confused whether it was a pilgrim in the Thankskilling room or an actor with a musket in the President's Day room... but man! The blast was incredibly loud, the light was blinding, the scare was very sudden, and it had my ear ringing for the rest of the night!
Nightingales Banshee: The very first banshee above the guests feasting on a soldier was extremely eerie. You made me feel quite uneasy for the rest of the house.
7 Minions: All of y'all were really pretty good! I got a few good startles from y'all.
Your Luck Has Run Out Cast: Every. Single. One. Of. You. Were. Absolutely. Fantastic. (The minion under the bridge closest to the lagoon gave me one of my best scares of the night.) Bravo!
Lucy Minions: I got some of the best scares of night for y'all! You all really work well together with just yourselves.

Your Luck has Run Out: This was an ok zone for me. There was a guy behind me who got the crap scared out of him however. This zone wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. Rating: 3 out of 5.
Do you remember if the person that got really scared had somewhat long blonde hair, black jeans, and a "New Era of Darkness" shirt on? It could have possibly be me.

I did this last night for my visit this weekend. It was a bit late, so forgive if some of the times don't flow very well. (I arranged the As & Bs (casts) by past reviews of which casts were more active in each house.)

I had trouble finding a time where I would actually go through Canyon of Dark Souls. It seems as if I do The In-Between, I would end up by Nevermore, then do Nevermore, then do Saws N' Steam, ect.
I also don't plan on doing Bill & Ted. (It seems like a good show... but being there only two night, I'd rather do some more houses.

I usually duck down and run away. I often jump, but rarely ever make any noises what so ever.
I remember that the Body Collector's assistants and the Havoc red domes were, by far, the scariest scenes to me last year. I definitely did some duckin' and runnin' in there...

New video! Shows footage from EP night. Tons of spoilers so don't watch if you don't wanna see them!
I'm speechless.

They haven't really gone all out since 07' and the Carnival of Carnage. They added a ticket booth for 09' but that really really the most they added. I'm not expecting anything else to go up. I would like some red curtains and chains though, like in Sting Alley. Wishful thinking.
I agree. I think some chains and red curtains would be a nice touch. It's minimal, but effective. I could really careless with what is done with the archway, though. Even with nothing but the screen, I though last year was fairly neat due to the rotating "root-ish" lighting.

Geat video!
The In-Between is really starting to grow on me. Currently it's my least anticipated, but I think I might just have to edit my post.
Anyone know what the background audio is?
-
That. Is. Amazing.
The projection effect looks better than anything I could have ever asked for.
-
I guess 7 is intentionally going to be very simplistic. However... like some noted before, the whole zone can be completed with audio/lighting/effects.
So much for Canyon of Dark Souls depicting an actual cayon... Hopefully, some more scenic pieces will be added to emphasize some sort of natural environment.

I was looking through my house for old books to put in the witch room for RHH and come upon a bit of "Poe's Prose Tales". It was dated by my great grandfather from 1923. While it doesn't include all of the his featured work in Nevermore, I will read the ones that are; and read the read online.
There's nothing more atmospheric than reading Poe from a small, eighty-three year old, worn and torn book under dim candlelight.

I'm loving the street stickets in this zone!
-
This zone is based on distractions, I'm guessing. You're looking up at a stage, then a street actor gets you from behind.
-
With the new construction photos, I'm a bit worried. It seems as this will be more of a "metaphoric" canyon that an actual geological structure.
Hopefully I'm wrong, though...
-
Am I the only terribly devastated by the loss of the house books? I absolutely LOVED seeing the house's elevations, concept art, floor plans, and so on.
I really do wish Universal will bring them back this year.
-
The fun continues!
I can't wait to see what else you come up with, Andrew!
-
Forgot to mention these in my wish list - a nice, super-nice coffee table book with lots of concept art, blueprints, and high-res photography, and/or a new documentary. I hate having to show the 2002 doc to the uninformed - it makes the event look a little lame at this point (I feel Screamhouse is really the only house that holds up to today's standards.)
We need that... very much.

My wife wears he My X hoodie practically every day
But I've given up on the hoodie from HHN.
We must not give up, Jeramy!
I think Fallow had a great idea! A lenticular poster of Lady Luck's split personalities would be absolutely fantastic! Unfortunately, that seems even less likely than hoodies! Also, I can't believe I haven't even thought about a scarezone shirt! It seems like this year the scarezones are worthy enough for a shirt. I think that not having a deck of cards would just be a severely missed opportunity! (That statement brings back the sad thought of the vacancy of the Meetz Meatz masks and Z.A.P. shirts...) Anyways, I would love to see cards at the event!
-
Sure thing. Here you go.
Thanks so much!
-
I have noticed with the update, that you are not allowed to go back to the Tank You game, as well as the Channel Surfing and Loose Cannon game. I hadn't yet beat the older games, so now I can't seem to get full chips.
-
I started the event in 2009, but I've seen some of the videos online. I must say that out of all the ones I've experienced and seen online, Leave it to Cleaver is my very favorite.
Your Luck Has Run Out
in Scare Zones & Shows
Posted
I got some absolutley amazing scares in this zone on Thursday night! The first demon Luck near Mummy was able to get a good scare out of me and every single ground actor tag teamed me. I do agree that the mask are quite cheap looking, so hopefully Universal will fix that by the end of the event. The minions, I believe, are wonderful characters. They look incredibly disturbing, get great scare out of people, and their staffs get some great startles as well. I love the dummy victims in this zone (the axed head and the cards in mouth) Last night (Friday) was as good as Thurdsay, but I still enjoyed going through it.
