  1. Um, so Portofino is already sold out of base rooms with King beds for the last week of Oct 2019?????  Jeeze  (10/18 -10/26)   Damn y'all is quick!

Well, ok, then.  Booked at Royal Pacific for HHN29!

Then GF says the silliest thing ever.  "You know we are going to Disney in 20 and wont be going to HHN30, right"   I'm like, I know I've been drinking, but it sounded like you said we aren't going to HHN30.   I really love her, but this might be a dealbreaker.

edit: I might need to go to a meeting or something.  Booking a vacation 14 months in advance?

  2. @TimothyJ are you able to do one night with Express and one night without?   I would hate to say do both nights without and you end up in lines all night and no chance to really enjoy scarezomes.  But maybe that just me.  I like to just sit down in good zones and chill and watch.  The Chance zone and the Vamp55 were awesome for that a couple years ago.  The scareactors eventually notice your sitting and try to get you.

While I agree with you that Orlando's newer attractions aren't all that impressive,

BUt, I get it.  They had to do SOMETHING.  But dang, I was really hoping for something better with F&F.

Creative did create insanely immersive and detailed queues that Hollywood doesn't have, however. Fallon is a mediocre ride at best but the queue, again, is the most impressive part.

Agreed, but while I enjoy the themeing and its one of the main reasons that I enjoy USF, the queue is not why I'm there.  But, I can accept Kong and Fallon as family friendly and their ride cars fit the environment.  I guess I just expected more with how over the top the movies are.

Kong has a wow factor on the exterior and a scare actor in the queue,

Ive heard this rumor, but never seen one.

I haven't seen the new lagoon show either, but from what I've seen from pictures and videos, it looks like they put a lot of time and effort into making it an impressive night time show with water screens, pyro, fog, and lasers. Some of the fountains shoot upwards of like 140 feet, I believe, which I'm sure is amazing to see in person.

I will reserve judgement till I see it in person too

There are scenes from current movies that are relevant and also throwbacks to movies in the past.

I didnt see anything throwback or even anything that is not a current attraction in the park.  I thought it could literally be recut and shown as a commercial.

You make a good point that the 80's theme is literally this years icon.

AOV, assuming it is going to be in Fear Factor this year, will definitely have less crowd participation. But who knows, maybe they can have an area blocked off for people to stand near the stage for them to dance and what not. AOV worked with a lot less space these past two years than they will have with the FF stage. Maybe they can compromise some of the space towards the front for standing room?

You missed a new experience that they added late last year which was the Harry Potter nighttime show at IOA. Mike Aiello worked on this and the lagoon show and he's the brain child / creative genius behind a lot of the aspects of what makes HHN so great. He obviously puts his heart and soul into whatever he works on and I think it shows in whatever he has had his hands on.

I agree about his passion and I envy his position, for sure.  It's got to be a great job.  I did miss the HP show.  And from what I saw it was done quite well.  I wish they would bring the parade from Japan over to USF too.

With the new Potter coaster next year, Nintendo Land, replacements to older rides/lands like Shrek, Terminator, KidZone, and Lost Continent coming someday, the eventual 4th gate, and years of HHN to come, I'm positive creative will redeem themselves for just replicating rides at their other park on the west coast.

I've got a little one that I plan to take for years to come, so I hope so.

  4. Just on the topic of "creative:.... I know the new lagoon show has absolutely no bearing on HHN, but to the point of "CREATIVE" -- specific to Orlando

    Kong opened in 2016
    Fallon in 2017

    F&F in 2018

Now the new lagoon show in 2018

Personally am not super impressed with any of these from a creative perspective.   Kong and F&F are practically the same ride.  The F&F is neither and they completely missed an opportunity to make that a creative ride.  (There's a competition race about to happen, so lets get on a bus and go to the after party?)  All of these rides are underwhelming IMHO.  I do like that they replaced attractions that were dated and needed updating, but with this?  And now the new lagoon show has debuted and while I have yet to see it in person, and dont know if we will get to at HHN as the park closes at 7pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, but what Ive seen on videos is that it is nothing new or creative, at all.   After spending a day wandering park to park, the lagoon show ends up being a recap or a commercial for the attractions inside the park.   The design of the show is interesting, but the show itself?  I think it also may be a bit of foreshadowing that I didnt see the Simpsons in the show what with Disney buying up (everything) the studio that produces that show.

So, this all leads to a disturbing trend over the past 3 to 5 years and it seems to be bleeding into HHN, as well.  The idea that we dont really need an icon for the event or that the crowds will just take anything you throw at them (sadly, we will) like a selfie "scare" zone that was as incohesive as it was sparse.   Oh, you havent watched all of AvED -- gonna be kind of hard to understand why dude has a leather mask on.  "Creative" needs help.  I see this channel eating up the 1980's theme of this year's event.  There is easily double the excitement equal to 2016 at this point.  And they don't even have an icon.  The icon is the theme this year.  I hope they see that excitement and keep going in that direction vs the incoherency of 2017.

Lastly, has anyone else considered how the AoV show will be affected by the entire audience being seated for the show?   It feels like we will be sitting and watching vs people being able to dance and participate.

Actually, women do give their out-of-wedlock children the father's surname if they know it. Happens all the time.

And yes, strong emotions can make people act strangely and completely illogically. Of course, you missed where I conceded that other connections such as (Aunt Em) make your scenario more likely.

Yes, i have a hard time reading, often due to ADD, but wasn't intending to be a jerk.

Strong emotions do strange things to people.

Ok, now we are reaching.  In your above post you referenced Emily as having strong maternal instincts, but now she is too emotional to think of her son?   Not a chance.  There is not a single chance in the world that I would go through emotional turmoil of that level and NOT think of my infant son/daughter and their well being.  There is also zero possibility that Mom would allow the birthday to go by without even a mention regardless of circumstance.  That's just not how women roll.

Charlie is not Emily or Greg's son.

    Quote

Kim and Charlie do not share a surname. There's only a few options for that.

    - Charlie is illegitimate. He was born out of wedlock, and was given his father's name. (Can apply to Kim or Emily).

    - Charlie's father has died. Remarriage as occurred (can apply to Kim or Emily)

    - Charlie's parents divorced. Remarriage (Kim). Reverted to maiden name (Kim or Emily). We know Emily has married, but we don't know her new surname.

    - Charlie's parents are married. Mother didn't take father's surname. (Can apply to Kim or Emily). This is the least historically likely scenario. While women were not taking the man's surname in the 80s, it was far less common than it is now.

One option that has been left out is that Charlie is Greg's son.  But, again, I find this highly unlikely.  Emily would have passed a message of inquiry about the boy.

Women do not give their out of wedlock children their Father's last names.  They give them their own, most often.

It is also likely that Kim is divorced, separated, widowed, or that Emily just calls Kim by the name she has know for Kim all her life.  I know I do this for both of my sisters. They have married names but I can barely put the name with the person because that's just not how I know them.

Or Kim is watching Charlie for Emily while Emily is on her honeymoon. Charlie living in the same house when older would make sense if he was raised by his aunt.

It doesnt make sense that at no time during the correspondence we see, which runs over the course of a month, that she wouldnt ask about her 2 year old son, especially since his birthday passes during this time.  Another clue is that she doesnt even send a card on his birthday.  Also once Greg dies and once things are obviously out of hand she still doesnt ask.  To me, at least, it makes far more sense that Charlie is Kim's son.

Also, is Magnus from Australia any type of imoortant player in this or just a happenstance character?

but the first postcard starts with Emily answering a question. The first postcard isn't the first correspondence.

    Not exactly,

On Oct 3 She says:  Tourist-y no?  (meaning the post cards)  Greg thought it was cheesy too but c'est la vie!  We love you and wish you were here!!

P.S. grabbed a stack of these stupid post-cards so I'll write when I can.

This is definitely the first correspondence.  Which is why Emily is explaining to Kim that she got the cards and to expect more.

Emily never actually answers or responds to anything from Kim or otherwise.  It is completely Emily speaking and we cannot even tell if Kim is receiving the cards.

I know they've done houses for movies before the movie's released, but I feel like they might wait until 29 to do Blumhouse's Halloween. The movie doesn't come out until October 19, 2018, and they'd probably want it to go through the entire movie like the other Halloween houses.

Keep in mind the theme of the event is 1980s.  Think Halloween 4 or 5.

Yes half of the park is the parade route, and Uni puts most of the zones in that half. This makes the other half feel barren with 1 or 2 zones at best, AND makes the other 4 zones have less theming.

Is there any reason that a zone can't go in front of F&F, MiB, or FFL?

This year will be different, maybe, but in the past FFL area is always very crowded as there are rows of pop up bars and food and tons of people milling around leaving or waiting for the show in FFL to load.

The write-up itself says "South Street," which confirms what I was told (and is the highlighted area the map). In regards to why that zone got moved, there are two likely reasons: 1) They want the sightlines between Central Park and San Fran "clear" for the lagoon show, and/or 2) They wanted to leave the area around their newest attraction clear.

Seems to make sense that they want the area around F&F clear as the attraction will most likely be open during the event.  But, are they actually going to run the lagoon show during HHN?  That seems wildly out of place and that they would only run that on the off nights in which case the zone locations wouldnt matter excepting if they are putting out a lot of props.

I have a feeling that Hollywood got shook by WB event taking away ip from hhn.

now, they are scrabbling to put non original  houses together.

HHN planning is far more advanced than a few months before an event of this magnitude.  Licensing matters and planning for houses is probably more underway for HHN29 than scrambling to put together HHN28 with less than 80 days until the event.  Exceptions happen, like if someone starts a frivolous lawsuit and screws up access to a property, but WB would not have given out access to IP if they knew they were going to open their own haunt this year.  Just my opinion....

The Lazarus Effect, Oculus,  Lords of salem?  Most likely truth or dare cause it's new and will be on dvd.

     Get out, green inferno.

I wouldn't doubt that we get another purge scene.

Truth or Dare would probably be a good one.  Haven't seen it yet, but just from the previews it looks like there could be some good scenes.

I don't understand the fixation with Get Out.  Yes, it was a decent movie, but what, exactly, is scary about it?    Are you going to walk through a room of stuffy white people sipping tea with their pinkies held up while being served by maids with glazed eyes?   What's scary about that?   I just don't see how that one translates to HHN.

I don't like the placement for killer klowns. I hope it actually happens.
I love that film.  I was hoping for set pieces for that.

I  want Blumhouse again, but I don't know about happy death day. I think there could be so many better scenes.

Yeah, I dont see that having KK next to NY makes any sense.  Moving it to Springfield makes it seem just like last year's event though.  I would think it works better for KK to be in Hollywood and Chucky to be in Springfield.

What better scenes would there be than Happy Death Day?   At least we havent had that before. (in Orlando)

I had heard. I'm having a hard enough time convincing people that an icon isn't happening this year. I'm not going to start diving in to the backstage politics against icons anymore.

I can understand this.  If you go back to 25 or 26 where you had Jack and Chance, there is a ton of merch aimed at just the icon.  Go to 27 and merch is much more diverse and focused on the houses and the overall event.  I do like the idea of an emcee (icon) or the like, but maybe they could find a way to have something like that but not let it be the central focus of the event?

That and hope the event shirt is a bit better this year.  Last year's was just boring.

Homages to The Lost Boys will be seen in this zone. That's not something I know, but it's something I know. A&D love paying homage to classic movies.

It could easily be the other.  All we know is: The scarezone is called Vamp '85 and it's a New Year's Eve party. The name could come from the end of '84 bringing about the year of the Vamp ('85).

If A&D is playing with symmetry like they did 10 years ago...

    December 31, 1984 was a Monday.

    December 31, 2018 is on a Monday.

Either works. There's more symmetry to ringing in '85, though.

Take into consideration that Vamp 55 was the Hollywood High School 1955 Homecoming and it makes sense that in the new zone it will be 1985 going in to 86.  But, in the end, it matters very little.
