  1. I really think that next year you'll see an absurd amount of money sunk into the event. Comcast can look at past records all they want and see how much this event has helped in 3rd quarter attendance slump all they want but until they experience it they won't really get it. Once they really grasp this cash cow I think they'll try and beef it up even more.

  2. I honestly think all this bitching and moaning is hilarious. Get over it people. The fact of the matter is HHN is a seasonal event, and yes I do love it dearly just as much as you guys, but I like Universal Studios Florida a lot more considering it's kinda sorta vital to HHN. USF is getting HUGE improvements, and if the event has to suffer for one year I really couldn't get a shit.

Here's the breakdown of what's going to happen.

    1. Everyone's going to continue to bitch due to uncertainty

    2. Some information will come out. Everyone will get excited then complain about it. (Just like every year)

    3. Repeat step 2 multiple times. I like to call this phenomenon the Excitma-Bitch

    4. A big reveal will happen. Everyone's excited about HHN. "This could be the worst HHN ever but I'm so excited."

    5. Everyone goes to the event and the vast majority of us are STILL happy because at the end of the day there is an HHN with houses, and streets, and scares and booze.

People bitch about the event year, in my 5 years of following speculation I've never had a year where people didn't complain. People complained about how bad New Line would be, how shitty Bloody Mary would be, the absurdity of an exclusive "Movie Year", how crazy it is to get rid of all the old franchises, a lot of things last year and my all time favorite how there was too much blue at the event. Point of the matter is people will complain.

There is also a difference between being critical of something you've experienced and watching the trailer for a movie you're uncertain about but claiming it should win a Razzie based solely on that trailer. Come on guys, you're all going to go and atleast 75% of you will enjoy the event over all.

However, the amount of incessant whining I am seeing about what may be coming is astounding. It's simple. If you don't like like what they're offering, DON'T F---ING GO! No one is making you attend.

    Can we be bestfriends?

And I'm really not trying to start a conflict but I wouldn't bitch if my parents were giving me a free vacation to Halloween Horror Nights, even if it was the "worst year". In a few years the days of free vacations will be long over and you'll be wishing your parents were paying the $7000 for your trip.

  3. It should be quite a special event this year, with all these developments.

I completely agree. I think these forced transitions are healthy for the event and the true transition years in general have brought a lot to the event. 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008 were all transition years and you hear those years thrown around a lot on people's favorites or have shaped the event in a serious way. You can argue that every year has some transitions, but those years have hard, discernible transitions.

  4. I'm just going to put my two cents in, and feel free to move this to the speculation thread, but if other HAUNTS can create houses in hotels and restaurants then doesn't Universal have endless options for house locations? aka...Monsters Cafe...etc... Just an idea.

I am quite sure options are even now being considered.

Universal has used a restaurant as a house location, used multiple attractions, and outdoor areas. If they made houses work in Thunderfalls Terrace, Discovery Center, Poseidon's Fury, and The Bone Yard than it's completely plausible for one to be used in Cafe La Bamba or Monster's Cafe.

  5. Probably the most rational explanation I've read all day.

A serious issue is that we tend to not look at things from the stand point of the share holders or investors. When you look at things that way you can really see the logic behind what they're doing. The deconstruction of SS44 isn't some irrational act against HHN, but a completely rational business investment. It sucks looking at things financially, it can even suck the "fun" out of speculation, but when people start to do look at it that way things become a lot less cloudy.

Also we should realize the impact the parade will have on scarezone construction. Obviously with a parade happening every day of the event shortly before closing they cannot build elaborate set pieces like we have seen on Hollywood Blvd. for the last three years. Only areas outside of the parade route could be used for anything like that and the alternative is more roaming scareactor type zones.

They're not going to shut their new parade down. My theory is that we can expect props to be rolled into place every night before the event and for them to be the sort of prop that is easy for multiple trained technicians to move but hard for 3 or 4 drunken guys to move. On that note, I think it's also safe to say that we won't see these props until we're ridiculously close to opening night. The scarezones (barring they stay in the same locale) in Central Park, Kidzone, Disaster, and Shrek Alley (barring that happens due to SS44) will have stationary props. Expect the zones in New York and Hollywood to have props rolled out.

  6. I assure you Universal Creative knew about Halloween Horror Nights and knew a house was going in that location. This isn't on Universal Creative, my guess is that Creative was given the green-light on a Blue-Sky project that they more than likely never expected to get into fruition. Comcast more than likely wanted an intermediate attraction for before the Jaws replacement and gave this the go-ahead last minute and just came up with a time-table. Ultimately, an attraction will churn more profit than a haunted house and when you look at it from that perspective it makes sense to do it now instead of later.

The event will survive, and I'm sure it will be great this year. At the end of the day, we'll all go and most of us will enjoy it. Universal knows that HHN turns enough profit annually to keep it around, but they also know that it's a seasonal event and is only around for 6 weeks.

  7. The permits are well under way for SS44. If they backed out now... that could be bad.

The permit is still open and no others have been added. I would like to know where that rumor is coming from.

edit: OH Behind Universal is where that comes from... which is run by Jarred. Jarred is not known for his credibility.

He is however known for Ambulances and Alligators. :)

Well, since no one has posted it yet and it will add fuel to the speculation, here's a very cryptic and exciting video Dr. Jimmy posted recently:

Certainly interesting to say the least.

Edit: I really haven't more than a few fleeting ideas on most of these, but I must say that the potentiality of the Nineteenth Century and TWINS clues really have me excited.

Dr. Jimmy is a really good friend of mine but he is just a fan, albeit a big one. He might or might not get a leak here or a leak there but I highly doubt he knows exponentially more than any of us. Just keep in mind that until Art and Design says something all of it is just rumors.
