  1. Weren’t we supposed to get Ouija last year, only for Hasbro to step in very late in the day and say no? They own the rights to the board game Ouija, and I think that’s why the announcement for HoB was so late and rushed. It’s a shame because although the films aren’t great, I think it could’ve worked well in HoB. Better than the purge at least!

    I’m still hopeful for a Conjuring universe house, but with all the legal issues surrounding those properties I doubt it would ever come.

    didn't mean it as a jab or anything more than funny, but you will get a good sense of some 80s music in that thread.

    No worries I didn’t think you were having a go at all, just pointing me in the right direction :D. There’s some decent playlists there been listening all morning getting in the mood

  3. So for people like me, who were born late 80’s or after and don’t remember, what great songs can we expect from Vamp ‘85? I love 80’s music but apart from the stereotypical classics what other songs do you think we can expect? For what it’s worth I did ask on Twitter for Orlando to do a Spotify playlist. They did the same for the whole event last year so hopefully will do that this year. I’m seriously considering having a night doing stay and scream, as many houses as I can, then people watching in Vamp ‘85 until the queues die down and hitting houses again.

    I should add I am a huge music fan and know most iconic or well played 80’s songs. Looking for some obscure gems which probably don’t feature on the standard Spotify 80’s playlists. Love discovering new music

    So for you HHN vets the original houses gets you more excited?  will be attending my first HHN in October and im most excited for the IP houses, but i have nothing to base it on outside of familiarity.

    Welcome to the club! Last year was my first HHN and, like you, I was more excited for the IPs this time last year. I knew they did originals, but without anything to compare them to it’s difficult to get an idea of what they are going to be like.

    Having said that, it’s very different experiencing the event first hand. Whilst the IP houses are great, the issue I had was because you knew the story and the characters you already had a preconceived idea in your head of what to expect, and what the house would be like. Because of that, you may feel a little disappointed if something you thought would happen or be there ultimately doesn’t appear in the house. For example, the shining house last year got some (minor) criticism because some of the scenes in the house were in a different order to the scenes in the film. I love the Insidious films, but was left really disappointed with that section of the house last year as it wasn’t what I wanted it to be.

    Also, IPs can restrict the creativity of the houses. There’s certain scenes they need to do, certain beats need to be hit, so can stop the team really showcasing what they can do.

    This isn’t true for the originals. With these there’s more freedom to be creative and really go to town. Plus you have very little idea what to expect the first time through. For me, last year I went for the IPs but stayed for the originals. I remember the originals a lot more vividly than the IPs.

    In either case, they tend to put on an excellent show for both IPs and originals. I’m sure you’ll have a great time. You’ll have to let us know afterwards if you’re a convert to originals over IPs as well haha.

    What would go in this HoB 2 if not Halloween? I get that there are many options (Get Out, Hush, Creep, The Visit) but I imagine they'll want a new blockbuster IP to bring GP into the house, which was Insidious last year. This year...could be the new Purge? Would they really use Purge in the same house series two years in a row? As much as I want Halloween to get its own house, I can't see a solo Halloween 2018 house and HoB 2 existing at the same event.

    I love map spec. Makes it seem a bit more real!

    I’m not sure HoB2 or the new Halloween will be at the event. Remember Shrek was a late addition, and if Halloween wasn’t planned before then it was never in the running to be a maze in its own right. And people are assuming HoB2 will be coming because of HDD rumours and the fact it was there last year. AHS was there two years running and heavily anticipated to return, yet has literally dropped off the face of the map this year now.

    Also I’d be surprised if Chucky was a scarezone (as much as I’d love that). And isn’t San Fran being retired as a scarezone location for somewhere new? Makes me think this area may be used for bars and food and a safe zone instead. Unless there’s something extra special planned here which no one (not in the loop already) is aware of yet?

    Other than that looks good to me. Can’t wait for officially hearing what’s in store!

  6. Speaking of scarezones, I’m hoping for three things from Vamp ‘85:

    1. Great interactions with guests (like the adventurers club at pleasure island had when that was a thing);

    2. Great music, with a Spotify playlist made available of the music in the buildup to the event. They did a generic HHN one last year, so should be an easy win;

    3. Actual celebration of “NYE” at midnight with special show.

    There’s so much potential with this zone I really hope they do it justice. Any ideas where it will be based? Guessing round Mel’s diner, but actually I’d love to see it in New York. Then can have a few different areas for different music tastes, different mini shows, and have motorbikes for a nod to The Lost Boys.

    Intentional or not, aren’t these all parodies of film/tv? I see Mad Max, NoES/Inception, and Cloud Atlas. The last one is a parody of many cult/brainwashing films and TV shows, probably a specific one but I can’t figure it out right now. And “ship” could refer to when fans want certain characters in books or films/tv to get together romantically, or desperate for something to happen. So could point to an Icon such as the Director, or HR Bloodngutz returning? Not that familiar with the HHN folklore so please correct me if I’m wrong.

    The trademark posted to IU is for jewelry. Standard Character Marks must be for specific usage.

    That just means it’s a trademark for the phrase “Bloody Mary” for use specifically in relation to jewellery. So probably a jewellery range called “Bloody Mary”. It does not, however, trademark fonts, lettering style, colours, size, etc.

    It also appears to have been in use since March 2008, but only filed for trademark protection this year. Interesting.

    In any case dont get too worried. Trademark protection is pretty flimsy. From what I remember (though it’s been a while and from a UK viewpoint), you need to prove there’s a case for consumers confusing products and as a result there’s a loss to the business. Though not sure what the specific US rules are regarding trademarks, I’d imagine they are pretty similar to the UK and rest of the world.

    Big Fire Pumpkin  in the area where Ash's Classic was last year: what say you?

    It would be neat if they re-create part of the scarezone for that area. Sounds like that might be the plan. Maybe.

    Did that ever work in the end? Anyone got video of it? Was so disappointed that it wasn’t working while I was there, was looking forward to giant pumpkin flames
