Skoolhouse in 08 was a tribute/homage to TRT.

My gut instinct is that there is a little confusion going on and TRT is actually a return of the Traditionals from 2012 or we are revisiting the Skoolhouse.

TRT came out in '09. But revisiting the Skoolhouse = YAAYYESSSS

(Whatever the case, I hope it's an excuse to fill Central Park with jack o lanterns again.)

  2. The name of the album of Don't Fear the Reaper is "Agents of Fortune." Though the website looks less "fortune-teller"-ish and more "reaper"-ish though.

Any speculation as to where the houses will be? AHS is in SS 21, Shining will probably be in SS 22, given what the facade of Bayou was hinted at, I'm guessing it's going to be SS 23. If I had to guess, Dust Bowl/Scarecrows and Blumhouse will be in sprung tents.

What types of originals DO you want then?

The truth is that nothing is going to satisfy him. They could re-create 18 and he would still find something to complain about. I don't mean to be rude but complaining and pining for the "glory years" honestly seems to be his goal.

I'm sticking with it beaing a "Don't Fear the Reaper" reference, and we get either the Grim Reaper, or Death himself.

Back in 2009, a user on the Vault (don't know if he's still here?) had this idea for the Grim Reaper as an icon. It sounded really good (though it did copy a lot of '08 concepts)--one of the scarezones was an evil version of Candyland.

As someone who didn't start attending until 24, I don't get the same feeling from that video you posted. There is always a guest right in front of the person filming. Heck, even now it's very possible to go into a house with nobody in front or behind you. I did it multiple times at 25 and a few times during 26. Even when they start you off single file, most of the time halfway through the house, your not right on top of other people.  Also, it seems just as loud throughout the whole video as it does for most of the newer houses. Ghost town had quite a few areas of quite that stand out, but nearly every house had it's quite areas.

I feel like you look back on the event, back when you were younger and things like crowds and loud noises didn't really bother you or even notice to much. Not calling you old by any means, but i'm sure every year had it's flaws. There will never, and can never be, a perfect HHN event.

Yes yes yes. If anything the quality of house videos has gotten WAY better.

There were many, many people that (at the time, at least) HATED 14-17, saying things pretty similar to the things he posts--"HHN used to be the best Halloween event but is now a sad shell of its former self!" was a statement I heard regularly as a lurker 10+ years ago. If the Vault were still around, it would be surprising to see how negative some of the reviews for those years were.

  6. Somewhat OT, but why was Mary never featured in the anniversary years? I can only assume 18 just wasn't profitable because A)--it took place during the brunt of the stock market crash, and B)--unlike 19, no IPs (not well known, at least--Doomsday doesn't count) to keep attendance afloat. Can anyone confirm this?

Oh, and @ ThNdlzNiR: from what Manics posted on OU, it sounds like a Bayou maze (based off the scare zone from 24, correct?)

    Suspected lineup is...

    - AHS (Confirmed) - shit

    - Shining (Confirmed) - either going to be great or "Exorcist" average

    - Saw -boring repeat

    - Evil Dead - boring repeat

    - Insidous - repeat, worthy of improvements from last time

    - Blumhouse Mashup - average IPs

    - Catacombs/Gothic Crossover  -YES CANNOT WAIT

    - Dark Fortunes - going to suck

    - Scarecrow Maze - 3D? if so, suck

    Thinking of you.

I think Dark Fortunes is far, FAR likelier to be the 3D maze. I just can't see a Scarecrow maze being 3D unless it's Wizard of Oz (and even then), which doesn't look likely. Is Scarecrows expected to be a scare zone-to-house adaptation?

Admittedly, there's only three houses on that list that excite me (Shining, Gothic/Catacombs, Scarecrows), that leaves more time to do those houses repeatedly :)

  8. So reading your post on OU, are we getting both Thing and Blumhouse or just one of those? Is another original property supposed to be the other replacement? Or is there just one house being "replaced?"

In case of Blumhouse, i've got some homework to do!

Actually based on the rumors "The Ifrit" shot down The possibility of a "Path of the Wicked" Maze

In which when you add up all of the info you get a Scarecrow Maze taking place during the Dust Bowl. So... No 3D Maze this year.

Dark Fortunes? I would think with nine mazes they'd want to one of them to be a very cheap maze--which Lunatic's Playground clearly was (though I didn't go in it).

How would Wizard of Oz translate to a horror maze? Who even owns the rights [eta, I'm an idiot and didn't read above]? I feel like that's just not realistic.

The whole rumoured lineup/icon doesn't seem right to me. We'll have to see.

Others on IU are saying they've heard no Insidious and no TWD. A more exclusive IP and a new original to replace Conjuring instead. I shall wait until we see what the hell's actually happening before I bash any mazes.

Please please please let this be true! 4 originals (albeit the icon house will probably be pretty similar to Chance, which I didn't even bother with) plus the Shining = oh hell yes.

Since the three years I went were 16, 18 and 26, can someone please describe Catacombs and Gothic to me, since they're being rumored? I've heard they were really good, so I want to know more... :)

And how do you know your "source" is right?

Any other hint about icon? Why a "Scarecrow" maze?

Let me say again, shit year. Repeating IPs = horrendous,.

Only 100,000 more times, I'm sure.

  12. IDK where to find info on this, so feel free to move if in the wrong place, but does anyone know how much of a discount preferred annual pass gets on FFP? I remember last year the FFP post-tax being about $4 cheaper than the advertised price pre-tax. Hopefully they don't increase the price by another $8 this year like they have the last two years, given that it was only about a $2 increase each year prior. Thanks.

    Shinning

I have only seen the film version, and without having read the book I can say that the film is one of the best films I have ever watched, even with the film there is no reason to go into his mind. You could have little girls, the hotel room, Bat on the stairs, elevator of blood, bathroom/ghosts in the bar, "Here's Johny!" the dead bodies of the guy who tried to help and the chase through the hotel, and several hedge maze scenes. I also think that it is pointless arguing because movie is what we would get, and it isn't even close to confirmed.

    Icon

As for my current prediction, I think Caretaker is now most likely again for one reason more then what people are saying. Its not exactly hidden how much the horror nights community crosses over with the wrestling community. And given how wrestlemania went, I think we might see Caretaker as a tribute to his clear inspiration since his inspiration is in a way dead, like how we saw TCM after Leatherface died.

As far as the bar/bathroom scenes go, would Grady be popping out from behind the stalls? The blood elevator, as previously mentioned, would probably be a projection. It'd be so awesome if they found a more creative way to do that, but yeah.

Oh, and don't forget about the bear suit. While they couldn't include a certain implied part of that scene, that was to me the scariest scene in the movie.

  14. ^Wowzers, I don't necessarily agree or disagree (I like both the book and Kubrick version), but that's a rare opinion. Though, a reason I suggested some abstract portions was because of how the book explores Jack's troubles.

It's funny and frustrating how there's so many great scenes from the movie and book that don't appear in the other. I suppose they can incorporate both, though obviously they'll use the film as the base. How would they do the wasps? The hedge lions would be really hard to pull off, even with strobes.

  15. ^I didn't get to experience Catacombs, but given that I loved TotA, I reckon it'd be up my alley. :)

With The Shining, while I hope it wouldn't be the whole maze, I'd love for part of it to be somewhat abstract, specifically on Jack's inner turmoils--think of a hallway with "ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY" projected everywhere (including misspellings) with the smell of alcohol pumped in, you can even have the sound of a baby crying (the night Jack broke Danny's arm--I know it wasn't shown in the Kubrick movie buuuut it was mentioned and like I said, abstract).

Throw in a misty room of shower curtains the deformed old lady stalking you, a mirror trick scare with the twins, the obligatory catch phrase (do I need to say?) and the obvious hedge maze finale in a building kept at a cool temperature and wind blowing, and you'd have one heck of a house, IMO.

    Thoughts?

Very true, however, I think these past couple of years have lured in the big "party crowds" and therefore they will pay to go to HHN no matter what the event will offer. So, still offer the AHS, TWD type haunts, but start bringing original back more and more, year by year and you'll be able to most audiences. It's like the film Cabin in the Woods. They showed a trailer with blood, guts, girls and monsters to bring in the goobers that just love that stuff, but it was directed by Joss Whedon, which is mostly a totally different audience. You got a quality mind-f*** horror movie with all of the trappings of gore-porn.

That's my opinion on what they should do with the event.

See, what really POs me is that reviews on the Vault even during the era that CA is pining for were RELENTLESSLY negative. I went to 16, 18, and 26, and while 18 got great reviews, a lot of people HATED 16, as well as 14, 17 and yes, even 15.

Point is, it's really hard for me to take this type of complaining seriously when people here and on the Vault when it existed have always complained about it.

Anyways, we'll almost certainly see AHS again. I'd cry from joy if we got a FN@F maze, but it's not well known of a property. I would assume "Brains" means zombies and therefore TWD. Would not be surprised if Checkmate means Saw. None of those three likely mazes excite me, but the nice thing is that it frees up time to go through the mazes I like repeatedly. I ignored LP, WD and AHS last year and was able to go through GT, TCM and TotA multiple times. :)

I saw Stranger Things mentioned at the beginning of this thread, wondering how they would do that since the main actors are kids? One scene could obviously be the room with the Christmas lights flashing and the Demagorgon reaching through the walls (with the Clash ominously blaring) but IDK how the rest could go.
