If you're a fan of the series, you'd most likely be a fan of the house, and it's fair to assume the opposite would be true (obviously not 100%).  That being said, it did stay true to the visuals of the series, so in that aspect they did a good job.

I kind of hate the series. The narrative ends up being too long and loses it's way about 6 episodes in.

That being said, I thought that the house was fantastic. As stated above it focused on staying true to the visuals, and that's really the show's strongest element. Great production design.

I was also impressed how they implemented look-a-likes and actual dialogue from the show.

Does anyone have a list of what the "codenames" were for past HHN houses and what they ended up being? I can't seem to find that anywhere online.

The few I can remember off the top of my head are:

    -Halloween: "Captain"

    -Halloween 2: "Pumpkin"

    -Lunatics' Asylum: "ABBA"

    -Tomb of the Ancients: "Cobweb"

    -Freddy vs Jason: "Round 2"

-Run: Blood, Sweat, and Fears: "Spandex"

I agree that it is usually very difficult to transfer King's work from book to movie. That is why the movies that worked the best were actually short stories or novellas.  Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption and Apt Pupil - all novellas.  Green Mile was originally done as a serial - with a series of very short books.  Misery was a relatively short novel for him as was Carrie and the Dead Zone.  It's when you try to make a decent movie out of one of his masterpieces that you lose your way.  I am TERRIFIED to see The Dark Tower as I love, love, love the series.. but how do you get 7 books ... I just.. I don't even.  And while i'm curious about IT since the remake will have an R rating which will improve things immediately.. it's still a very long, BRILLIANT book, and I am scared to death what they will do with it.

That all being said, you are correct that everyone knows his most famous characters.  Many probably don't remember much of the background though except for what may have been imagined in a movie.  I think HHN could do some amazing work with his stuff because I know they are fans.  IT would make a great house because there is a ton of scenic, scary shit in that book.  I'd love to see Salem's Lot and Carrie and The Shining as well.. let's start there.

You forgot one of my favorites...The Mist...was also a short story.

I'm really frightened of The Dark Tower as well, but it sounds like it's actually supposed to be sort of a sequel. The movie coming out this year is also intended to start a new franchise (if it's successful), and might even be followed by a "Young Roland" type TV series.

  4. I've seen some mention of "Charles" being The Shining. Now that's a real long-shot in my opinion, but it would fit with him being surprised they got the property.

I think the famous elevator gushing blood scene would fit with an iconic scene that would be difficult to duplicate.

  5. It might be a bit of a stretch, but bare with me on this...

I'm thinking that Charles might be a reference to Annabelle/The Conjuring.

IIRC, the murders that caused the Annabelle doll to get possessed were loosely based off of Charles Mason and his followers.

With an Annabelle sequel, and a year removed from The Conjuring 2, now's a good time to have that particular IP in both parks.
