It might be a bit of a stretch, but bare with me on this... I'm thinking that Charles might be a reference to Annabelle/The Conjuring. IIRC, the murders that caused the Annabelle doll to get possessed were loosely based off of Charles Mason and his followers. With an Annabelle sequel, and a year removed from The Conjuring 2, now's a good time to have that particular IP in both parks.
