  1. Now that I think about it, some of my fondest memories of my early HHN visits include sound. In Pitch Black, I remember the sounds of a child whispering "Hey! Over here!" And in Superstition, where they had the dead hanging cats bleeding on you, they also had the cat hissing/howling sounds. Shoot, even in the original Doomsday (I think that's the one), there was the sound of the subway as you were walking through the car. Yes, it didn't have to be loud or startling, but I remember it being effective. Mostly because I actually remember it all this time later.

Effective use of sound should be on the list - check.

I could not agree with you more. Sound helps with the immersion factor. It puts me into the scene that much more.

I also love when they use scents. I will never forget HHN 13 in Psycho Scareapy the overwhelming smell of feces in one of the rooms. As sick and disgusting as that smell was, that was the moment they had me hooked for good. Coming from Pa I had never experienced a "haunted house" with smells before. I have only once or twice smelled a scent at local haunts in the 10 years since then and don't notice them at HHN anymore.

I don't need a bunch of blood and gore because honestly it fits in some houses and it doesn't in others. I don't want extreme amounts of gore just for the sake of gore. I would much rather the blood and gore that they do have is placed properly in a realistic fashion, with scent.

As far as the e-proms go, I hate them. I'm not a scareactor and have never been one. Talking strictly from a guest standpoint they become predictable, especially when you go through a house multiple times. I have better experiences all around without them. I don't mind one here or there but last year they were just ridiculous.

  2. I've just mainly been lurking lately but I wanted to throw my 2 cents into the conversation about Rob Zombie and other musicians. I'd be all for Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper and NIN to perform at HHN. I'd rather they didn't design houses unless it was one house for all of heavy metal. I'm talking a house with a room designed by or themed to each, Zombie, Cooper, NIN, Megadeath, Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Slayer.......... I know it will never happen considering royalty costs and the logistics of having that many people have input into a house. I'm just not into houses designed by celebrities, they have always fallen short of my expectations. Maybe my expectations are just too high but I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. I would absolutely love for them to add concerts each weekend and have the artists mentioned perform but I don't think that will happen either but this is wishful thinking lol

  3. Didn't get outta the single digits at night and 20's during the day here for a week, had 2 days between 55-60 but raining, now back to the 20's with 20 mph winds. I'd kill to live in Orlando for mid to upper 60's in late January or early February.

  4. I think he's implying that lower alcohol sales means that more people are sneaking liquor in....thus the need for more security to crack down on said folks....

Ok well going off of that there isn't much of a way to stop it, people have plastic flasks now. They go much further and we'll all be bending over and submitting to a cavity search to get in.

As for this crap about scareactors getting assaulted. I hate to say it but maybe it's going to take some scareactors to "push" back a bit. I know that isn't legal and may just lead to worse problems but I truly think people get off by messing with someone that they know can't do anything back to them. The pepper spray incident is absolutely ridiculous. How does someone get pepper spray/mace past security? Last year my friend Jason was stopped and pulled aside for his asthma inhaler, yes people an asthma inhaler. They made him pull the medicine out of the container, spray it and 2 different guards had to look it over before a 3rd came over and said with a rather embarrassed look on his face that it was just an asthma inhaler and he was ok to go. Moral of the story is if they nitpick and an inhaler, pepper spray should NEVER get through the gate.

  5. This times 100. I tweeted it half-jokingly a week ago, but I now I really wonder if the increased security is due solely to lower alcohol sales. Seriously, not that the person who did it doesn't deserve jail time, but I'd also do a top-down clensing of the gate security team. It's easy to hire new rent-a-cops in this economy, send a message.

What do you mean lower alcohol sales? As in prices are lower therefore causing more drinking? Or they aren't selling as much? I haven't been there yet, next Wednesday is my first night. If alcohol sales are lower as your post leads me to believe I would think they'd need less of a police presence. Lower sales would mean less drunks to act stupid.

  6. Do they set up the houses during the day? Given the sudden location change they might have only had time to design the lighting during the day and not realize that it makes a difference day vs. night.

The event takes place at night. I'm sure the lighting package is meant for the night and not day. Just because a house faced some adversity doesn't mean Universal is going to forget something as simple as the lighting during the first hour or so of the event compared to the majority of the evening which takes place in the dark. I gurantee they focused more on the night time. Maybe someone else who has been through the house can elaborate on what they've noticed.

  7. I had expected a turn around in people's attitudes but not quite this much. I'm really looking forward to my trip now. I had heard rumors of things happening this year but was worried about how it would all come together. It seems they've figured it all out and have things working pretty well now. I would think it would continue to improve as everyone gets used to the new way of doing things.

  8. Once again if you dont live in America i have to miss out. Cannot register without an American phone number and carrier meaning I can't join in the fun. Once they realise I'm British they don't let me participate in exit polls either. I'm really getting fed up of Universals policy towards foreigners. I spend more money each and every year than most Americans to attend their event yet I'm treated like a second class guest :(

If that is all you need I will take care of you. I messaged you on fb about it. We'll get you on there. As for me I'm a Maschorian and my name on there is Aaron F.

  9. I actually hit a scareactor by accident last night. I went to turn and point to show my group where to go. The guy came out of NOWHERE and I clipped him in the face. I felt so bad, but caught up to him to apologize.

However, I will say that Universal did a very cool thing for my sister last night. We were celebrating her birthday, which is actually today. She had a souvenir cup with a drink that she had just brought. Some REALLY intoxicated mofo was stumbling backwards and hit into her. Hard. Her cup went flying, she went flying, and the guy just turned around and shouted something inaudible holding up his giant Fosters can. Her cup had broke too. The staff made sure she was ok first, but then replaced her cup and drink for free. Even sang a little happy birthday to her, :P.

What you did last night has happened to me too. It was in the Saws N Steam sz and I was stopped waiting for a group member to take a picture. The guy came up behind me and I turned to see if we could continue walking and stepped right into him. We headbutted each other but I immediately apologized to him and asked if he was ok. He was of course and totally understood. It's the people who throw their hands up and hit them on purpose that need to be arrested.

I'm glad they did that for your sister. Sucks she had to go through it but at least Universal employees saw it and took care of her. Hopefully the rest of her birthday evening was a blast.

  10. just wait until Hell Week happens, that's when more booze-fueled altercations happen.

It happens every year. People that do it should be arrested for assault, thrown out of the park and banned from Universal property for life. You know what you're getting into when you go to an event like this.

  11. Yeah, see I don't mind the walking. It's just that now the path is longer. So you spend more time to get places. I like to get around quick.

I like getting around quickly but it isn't a big deal to walk a little faster to get to those places. Besides you have one less house to worry about hitting so that should save you some time. I'm honestly sick of hearing people complain about the walking. Before it was the house count or the sz's or whatever else people could find to complain about. Be happy that Universal puts on one of the best Halloween events in the world and stop nit picking every little detail. Now once you've been to the event you have every right to complain about things you don't like because you've seen it all. To complain before hand is just ridiculous but as Oysterhead00 said "Al Gore invented the Internet so people could anonymously bitch about everything" ;)

  12. I personally don't mind the walking. It's not that bad at all. At most it's a minor inconvenience. If you have a problem walking that distance maybe you shouldn't be going to the event anyway. The distance isn't bad at all. It's the shortcuts that have been taken away that are the INCONVENIENCE. Not that big of a deal. Do everyone a favor and just stay away from the event if it's too much walking, it'll help with crowd control ;)

  13. "Universal owns halloween...and Disney does it's kinda p***y thing with Not So Scary Halloween"

"You don't think about wearing 3D glasses in the real world, but when you do, it f**ks up your s**t"

    Ha ha ha, classic.

I had a good laugh at that too. He flat out says their house is the humor house but that it has just enough humor to lull you into feeling "safe" then bam something jumps out at ya. He seems like he enjoyed the process, hopefully that shows in the house.

  14. The rumor is that they WILL actually be there on a few nights; otherwise, it'll be a filler projection/prop probably.

This is not a rumor, it is a fact. Penn said on his podcast (Penn's Sunday School) this week that on Friday night they will be in the final room of the house. He said all night but I can't imagine they won't take breaks. He also made mention that they will be showing up several times unannounced throughout the event to do the same thing. He also talks a bit about the process and some of the other houses. It's worth checking out, just search Penn's Sunday School in itunes, it's the one posted this past Sunday (16th). He talks about HHN for the last 20 minutes or so.

  15. Inspired by American Horror Story season 1?

No, Carey Ohio has a location HHN has visited several times since 2008 I believe. I hope this house has a Bloody Mary (Mary Agana) appearance.

  16. I had no expectations at all for this house but the more I hear about it the higher my expectations get. This is one of my most anticipated houses today, yesterday not so much.

  17. Why would you want to run through that? That sounds AWESOME! I'd spend as much time in there as I could. Of course, I'm also weird...

I'm with you but it's hard to do with people are pushing you from behind because the room scares them so much. It wasn't my favorite house but that room is memorable to say the least.

  18. Plus the walking dead is overrated and didn't want it to be the theme this year nor did I want the event to become like Hollywood!

I believe the 9 million people who watched the Season 2 finale would disagree. Not only that, as a franchise the walking dead comic issue 100 was the best selling indie comic this century. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it overrated.

  19. I understand that a Goosebumps house has not been rumored what so ever and doesn't go with any of our cryptic statements, but that skin crawling comment has me wondering. It would be amazing if they did a Goosebumps house. But this is most likely for our Victorian house.

Goosebumps will not be happening this year or ever as far as I know. Gotta love those facebook rumors ;) We know what the houses are. When you look at the three we have left, it's rather easy to decide what house it's from. As others have said take the three we have left, it doesn't fit at all with gargoyles, doesn't fit in a DE style house, the only one left is the Victorian Mansion.

  20. I'm thinking kids room in the Victorian mansion. As much as I like Dead Silence, it doesn't fit with Classic Monsters. Unless Classic Monsters is really a 100 years of horror house. The way I see it classic monsters are the Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein, Creature from Black Lagoon, Hunchback, Phantom of the Opera etc.
