  1. Anyone know where I could find a spoiler-free review of the houses? Just looking to get some general thoughts without getting too much information

  2. Disagree. I personally think it looks cool. Not everything has to be dark and realistic.

Agreed. I think they look fantastic.

I appreciate you having a different opinion. Let me ask you, do you think the zone will be "scary" then? Or even any of the zones? Most of them (at this point) don't seem that way at all.

I would think it depends on what scares you. My wife is petrified of random acts of violence, but zombies? Well since they don't exist, not scary at all, but they sure are cool to look at. That's how I see this entire event. The more dynamic and different the zones and houses are, the better. Some real, some childish, some dark, some cartoony, that would be the perfect mixture for me. Therefore, I'm loving what I'm seeing. Will jumpy-outy things make me jump? Sure. Will I have nightmares because I saw a costumed Freddy? I sure hope so, but it's very unlikely.

  3. I guess when the event is treated like a daily excursion it can be compared to other events in terms of cost. But speaking as a Canadian, who has nothing t compare the event to, Universal in general is expensive. A four day trip to Universal (and MNSSHP tickets) costs roughly $4000 for two people. So next time you shell out $100 and think, wow this is expensive, think of the people who have nothing even close in their backyard and need to shell out $1000 just to fly to Orlando. You Orlandians have an embarrassment of riches and its causing you to be overly critical methinks.

  4. I love these silly, childish decorations. Heck my wife and I are going to Universal for the week then going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party for a childish romp through Halloween on Halloween night. I'll proudly admit that, despite being a horror fanatic, movies like HalloweenTown, Hocus Pocus, etc are some of my holiday favorites. Even though horror has always and will always be the most dominating feature of Halloween, the camp and the childish will always hold a special place in my Halloween. This holiday is not only about being able to make-believe the scary, it's also about soaking in the colors, the smells, and the feel of that perfect childhood time, pure nostalgia.

  5. Some digging around led me to an article where it was said that the B&W Monsters and Color Monsters would be battling eachother. Not sure how true that is, but it stood out to me. I'm thinking maybe B&W is classic monsters and the such, and color is the more modern stuff (like the IP Mazes). I could see classic slashers in that case.

Well that sounds bloody brilliant, like a new age slashers vs Monster Squad villains. If this is true my life would be complete.

  6. Anyone have any details or guesses as to what the All Night Die In scarezone might feature? The rumors are half black and white and color monsters. Would these be iconic monsters from film? I believe the old Die In house had the classic slashers, should I expect this scarezone to be similar?

  7. Honestly excited to see it. The scarezone was awesome and highly rated, and if you were excited about Scream, you're getting basically the same house with different masks, so this has plenty of potential.

while I am excited, I am sure that many, like me, are fans of HHN recreating iconic scenes and settings. Lets just say that purge has little to none of this as it was a mediocre film to put it mildly. That being said, it could be a great house, just a pretty second rate IP.

  8. 1. You do not need reservations but the earlier you arrive the better. Spots at the bar and tables will fill up rather quickly. All you need for stay and scream is entrance to universal and a HHN ticket.

    2. It is ppretty much a constant line. They may let in 20 people from the regular line for every 5-10 from the express line.

    3. I always try and take my sweet time when walking through the mazes and usually do pretty well. There will be TMs trying to force you through but I always ignored them to an extent. I mean you are paying a pretty penny to see everything might as well get your money's worth.

    Well thank you.

I have another question, this one may be difficult to answer. We are going October 29th, its a Thursday. All of the crowd calendars out there vary on whether this is a peak night or a slow night. Anyone have experience at HHN on a late Thursday night?

Last year October 30th was a Thursday - If you went, was it busy?

  9. In an age of information, this is one of those times where, for me at least, it seems to be a negative. I have to take everyone's word for it that this HHN team will be able to step up and solve whatever problems they're facing. I've been nearly shaking with anticipation since we bought tickets to Universal and HHN, but I sincerely hope that what was once 9 houses doesn't end up being 8 houses and a makeshift, thrown-together, "this'll do" house. I also hope their is no trickle down effect for the other houses.

Now to pass the time, maybe I can ask another another question of you veterans (please let me know if this isn't the space).

    1) To do Stay and Scream at Finnegan's -- Do I need reservations?

    2) Do they separate the people into groups to go into the mazes? (Many other houses I've been to herd a constant line through so a few people ahead of you get scared and it ruins it).

    3) Can you walk slowly through the mazes to really soak in the art and design? Or is everyone rushing through?

    Thanks in advance

  10. Hey everyone! First time poster long time reader. I have a really close source who works in the park. Here's what I can CONFIRM. Scream isn't getting replaced. The replacement that's being thrown around is actually the location of the house. Not a replacement house. It will be the TV show version unfortunately. In RUN it will be in the style of the original. There's going to be movable walls that will make you choose a new route. Today there was a meeting about Jacks show and unfortunately it's getting toned down since the show planned was going to be more gorey like last years show.

Refuse to believe this. If it's the movie version it will still promote and create excitement for the show.

  11.  if you need your thirst for HHN quenched I suggest you check out The art of scare(assuming you haven't done so already) it was a documentary that the travel channel did back in 2002 ddocumenting HHN 12, while the event has changed drastically since then it is still awesome.

    http://youtu.be/T2381qPZQBQ?list=PLlAOIgeV7hiF8JEajb7JvbzgP_hkh0551

If you have already seen the art of scare check out Horror Comes Home. This was done by student/director SpendusWorks. He did a fantastic job of covering the 2006 event.

So Cool. I have not seen these but will be watching them tonight when the wife gets home. Thank you!

  12. I'm glad it's not Scream. Scream wasn't that memorable outside of the opening scene. It wasn't a "serious" slasher like Halloween with a cool vibe. The costume isn't scary. It would be too similar to last year's Halloween house.

Now, it'll force them to be Creative and really prove to Corporate what's up.

Not the right forum to talk slashers, but I just gotta say I disagree. Sure Scream isn't that serious, but that's the point. Its a self-sustaining slasher built around the deconstruction of the slasher genre (a formula that some of the best modern horror films have adopted). I would be hard-pressed to find a better slasher film made in the last 20 years... heck even 25-30 years. But I also think the sets are fully memorable.

I know that's neither here nor there and just my opinion. I'm just bored and was checking the forum to pass the time. I too am just super excited to hear the next announcement, scream or otherwise.

  13.  I've never had a problem getting into a Bill and Ted show. If you show up 15 minutes before the show you should be good. Express also entitles you to seating at B&T.

Excellent information! I have not read that express passes help with shows. That's comforting. Now if only there was something new to look at on the HHN webpage.

  14.  you should be fine with express. Also if you can do stay and scream. You'll have 2 or 3 houses done before the general public is even in the park.

Like Legacy said don't let what could've been alter your perspective on the event. It's the best Halloween event in the world. You'll probably end up enjoying the original mazes more than the ip's anyway.

Thank you. Yeah we have day passes, so we will definitely be in the park early and getting as much done as possible without using express. Do you have to line up for show seating? Or show up at showtime and enjoy?

  15. To me, this is the bigger issue. I have to assume printing on t-shirts, Publix displays, Burger King tray liners/cups, etc. is already done. (I work in publishing, not with marketing materials, but we have to get books to the printer a month out--I imagine this is a similar timeline.)  That's a potentially not insignificant chunk of change, even assuming they have a fourth IP ready to go to fill the Scream spot.  Assuming your manufacturer can still work you in and doesn't have other jobs lined up.

Yes but the rights would have been worked out ages ago. I have a really hard time believing they just realized that the Scream people wanted it to be the show and not the movie. This would be a colossal breakdown in communication/failure to communicate if that's the case. I really hope its not anything to do with this or there is some next level incompetence over there.

  16. Well I'm a 30 year old man who has been dying to come to Universal Orlando since I was a babe. As a die-hard horror fan, Halloween Horror Nights has been on my bucket list since I was a young teenager as well, so I won't let anything ruin my first trip there. But it is slightly discouraging that they run into scramble mode the year I choose to come. Regardless, assuming this is all true, I'll still be happy with 8.5 houses even if Scream was so tantalizing (I wish I never saw the leak!). Since I never saw Cabin in the Woods or Halloween, I'd be happy if either of those filled in.

  17. I'm thinking The Strangers, The Purge, Sinister, Halloween 2, The Amityville Horror, The Omen?

Part of me says they would replace Scream with The Purge. I mean, the settings aren't too far off, they just gotta move some furniture perhpas, take out any Scream material in the maze. They could make an original Purge maze outta this, the party at the end could be a Purge Party gone wrong. Hell, they could have a Ghostface mask in there because The Purge needs masks.

I sincerely hope that if it is to be replaced it isnt purge, sinister, or strangers. The thing that attracts me most to an IP house is the nostalgia of walking through iconic scenes and environments. Although I love all horror movies, those I mentioned have zero attraction for me.

Plus when Mike said "SOON", this screams Scream to me. One of the rules is never to say "I'll be right back," and in Scream 3 Randy says "see you soon" as an F you to Ghostface and the rules. Just seems like he is playing with these rules a bit. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

  18. Another thing is they did stand behind Scream. They made it part of their marketing campaign and it leaked. Now they have to compete with that. At this stage in the game, the only replacement will be a retread. Heres to hoping its AWIL that got the axe and not Scream.
