  1. My user name meaning is very simple, it's the title of my favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode that included "The Gentleman" aka "The Body Collectors".

ugh Hush was so great. One of the greatest 20 sum minutes of television ever aired.

    My username?

Pyro Jack (ジャックランタン, Jyakkurantan, lit. Jack-o'-lantern) is a recurring demon in the [shin Megami Tensei] series. It is named in Japan after the fabled figure Jack-O'-Lantern, although the change to Pyro Jack has been used in much English Shin Megami Tensei media.

According to earliest accounts "Stingy Jack" was an Irish farmer who persuaded the Devil not to take him to hell. When he was refused entry into heaven, he wandered earth as a turnip-headed (or pumpkin-headed) soul who would come to be called "Jack of the Lantern" - or so says the legend. Jack-o'-lanterns are carved by children and enthusiasts alike on Halloween, though the tradition of carving gourds dates back probably to the dawn of mankind, and is not endemic to any particular culture. The tradition can also be thought to help guide the lost soul himself.

The legend however does not go back further than the term itself. Jack-o'-lantern or some variation thereof was at the height of usage in 17th century Europe; and simply put meant, "the guy with the lantern." Later the term would almost exclusively be used as slang in reference to the will-o'-the-wisp phenomenon, or ignis fatuus - due to the appearance of a far off person carrying a lantern.

  2. It's not about the icon per se. It's about immersion.

It's about feeling excited beyond the knowledge that you're going to a cool halloween event and actually stepping into a story. If I had it my way the hype would start early in the year in the form of an alternate reality game (think 2008's legendary truth) that worked it's way slowly to a reveal. It's just that much more exciting when you actually feel involved and connected to the event on a personal level. When you can suspend your disbelief just that much easier.

I realize that not everyone cares about these kinds of things, so a balance is hard to strike. You don't want to make the casual goers feel locked out of the loop by the time the event rolls around. Thus, the designation of an Icon with accompanying theme is usually the most efficent way to establish immersion.

  3. i can't possibly contain my glee over this ok

when it comes to survival horror games i'm a 10/10 total trainwreck baby so i've only managed to finish SH3 and shattered memories personally, but i'm so in love with the mythos of this series i can't wait to see it translated into a house. imho there's enough nightmare fuel here to theme an entire event around.
