  1. Honestly, while spanish was my first language and I should have jumped to la llorona first....I COMPLETELY jumped to Harry Potter as well! You're not alone in your pipe dreams, my friend...lol Something else to note...this might not be a spanish reference. Silence is translated "silenzio" in italian. Also, I think we're all avoiding an important reference....Silent Hill. I know, I know, it hurts to even think about it, considering the house was a bit of a let down last year. But, maybe this is instead pointing towards another video game-inspired house, i.e. Resident Evil, or the like.
  2. I'm also stuck on the wording part of the clue. familiar places --> inspiration death-filled spaces --> ?? Fear could come from death-filled spaces. Because there is a very common fear of the unknown, this would counteract the "familiar" portion of the first part. Does this mean a return of Fear? But what does this have to do with stevie wonder, and the ebony and ivory reference? The song is all about people coming together, no matter what their skin color or race (since racism was still rampant back then). So, "inspiration, "familiar places", and "harmony" are all positive. So then comes "death-filled spaces", and the missing link (my guess above was fear, but it could be something else). So then, what's the opposite of harmony? Well, the in-group/out-group effect, essentially. Maybe this is just further referencing the return of Horror Unearthed and the different legions....all of the legions playing against each other, causing the complete opposite of harmony.
  3. K found it... Ebony & Ivory - Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder. Black and white, duality, good and bad....suggestions welcome!
  4. Ifrit's got a new clue. "Inspiration can come from familiar places. By contrast, what comes from death-filled spaces." Stevie Wonder, in the 70's, if I'm not mistaken. I immediately thought of his hit, Superstition. Obviously this is a pic of a youtube video, so I'm trying to see if I can find which it is....
  5. THIS THIS THIS THIS I said it once, but I'll say it again. My name is Christine, so uh duh, it's about me and my horrific adventures in the corrupt, disgustingly hot, deliciously sinful city of insanity known as Miami, Florida. (kidding, of course...jimmy don't take this as an actual guess lol...)
  6. It's actually a pretty safe bet this year to say we'll have some sort of classic monsters theme or house, or at least scare zone, if only for the sheer fact that it's their 100 anniversary year. Seems people keep forgetting that, but it's true and very important to point out...universal (and most other entertainment companies) LOOOOVE celebrating anniversaries and birthdays when it comes to their own companies. And 100 years of horror films is extremely important and relevant to HHN. It's inevitable, in my opinion. Walking Dead was successful because of one thing: fan base. It brought a HUGE surge of new HHN-goers just for that house. That's money right in universal's pocket...and they're not going to want to back away from that, no matter what. AHS, Supernatural, and really any other cult horror series out right now doesn't match up to TWD in terms of sheer numbers of fans. This is partially why I feel the AMC relationship Universal cultivated last year will be used again for another Walking Dead house, OR use their own IP material from A&E (and from history)....and go with Bates Motel (Psycho). ....my first name is Christine O_O
  7. Carrie!!....dude....another Stephen King reference. I would die...DIE...if they did a SK house.
  8. "takes" was taken --> Taken house ft. Liam Neeson. I'm done. Go home christy, you're drunk.
  9. Yayyyy it's the Kevin Bacon game! So this is the connection: Margot Kidder was in Superman III. She was also in A Single Woman with Patricia Arquette. Patricia Arquette was also in Holes with Sigourney Weaver. Sigourney Weaver was also in The Village with Jessie Eisenberg. Jessie Eisenberg was in Beyond All Boundaries with Kevin Bacon. YAAAAYYY. ....so what does it all mean? This could be an ultimate reference to RIPD, which is starring Kevin Bacon and coming out this year, or a reference to The Following. The Following focuses on a serial killer whose cult is centered around the works of Edgar Allen Poe. Poe house again? I wouldn't mind...but idk if that's the direction they're necessarily going in. I'm leaning towards an RIPD house, which would be the sort-of-comedy house for the event.
  10. The Cabin In The Woods house idea is epic on its own, but I think we're also forgetting a potentially large part of (hopefully) theming and/or marketing this year (if universal is paying attention at all): the 100th anniversary of universal horror. This, on its own, gives A&D the best excuse EVER to bring in every type of horror-related entity created by universal...which also coincides quite nicely with the storyline of Cabin In The Woods, obviously. I am personally just praying to Odin that corporate allows A&D to use the 100 years of horror as the event theme, and then market anything that's an IP under that umbrella.
  11. This isn't a bad idea. Or maybe it's more like the trick or treat scarezone from last year. There seem to be children references all over the place...at least in some of the interpretations of the clues, anyway.
  12. Ifrit's next post "Aren't you glad that there's not eight Clues in this Line-up to contemplate?" Alluding to having more than 8 houses? Idk. Need to think this through, but obviously the numbers one through nine are being spelled out phonetically, the way police and other professionals who communicate numbers via radio transmitters say numbers. Again, this might be an R.I.P.D. reference. EDIT: this might also be a general military reference, considering it's a military alphabet (HAVOC, dogs of war, etc.) EDIT 2: I believe this is the site this list is coming from: http://www.armystudyguide.com/content/army_board_study_guide_topics/communications/phonetic-numerals-military.shtml (I'm nothing if not thorough ) This definitely confirms the military aspect
  13. We should totally just STAB CAESAR!!!!! Mean Girls house. Done.
  14. Alright "Tu" is spanish for "you" or "your". Ex: Tu eres loca = You are crazy Therefore, it might be another Llorona reference. He's also referencing Acts...Act III. Shakespeare wrote in acts, obviously, in his plays. Mercutio dies in Act 3 in Romeo and Juliet (and says the famous 'a plague on both your houses' line) In Macbeth, Banquo dies in Act 3. In Hamlet, Polonius dies in Act 3. Also, he does that whole "to be or not to be" soliloquy
  15. Ok so doing a little bit of digging in terms of Shakespeare, his first "horror" piece was called Titus Andronicus. It was basically about a slasher...and has been associated with Texas Chainsaw Massacre....
  16. Is it that big of a franchise to have IP house potential? I'm not familiar with it, but I wasn't aware it had a big following like that. I think for something to be an IP, especially an IP that can replace TWD in its ability to permeate different generation gaps and GP taste differences, it needs to be huge...i.e. followings of shows like true blood, GoT, AHS, etc. (I work for HBO, I'm biased, so sue me lol)
  17. Unfortunately, I have to agree. First of all, the fact that HHNO isn't a dry event changes a lot about what Uni will let their scareactors be vulnerable to during performances. Secondly, the American crowds are, as legacy mentioned, MUCH different than japanese crowds...and it's simply a difference in culture, and in how we treat others and expect to be treated. There would be teenagers screwing around with scareactors doing crabwalks, and trying to climb onto props like that themselves. I mean, just look at the whole Disney freak out after that Toy Story debaucle with the "Andy is coming!" meme. People overdo it here in the states...they don't know how to reign themselves in, and they expect things to go the way they want, when they want it. It's our individualistic culture versus Japan's collectivistic one. On a lighter note, however, seeing that Uni is capable of what is showcased in that video is great. Japan's natural inclination to be ahead of the curve in terms of technological advancements in comparison to the US goes beyond theme parks, but can be shown quite well with those projections. The fact is, they're in use, they're successful, and one day, we can probably expect that same level of tech here...one day far far away perhaps, but one day nonetheless. As I mentioned before, I think Uni is gearing up to start using more technology in their parks, as we saw in their attempt with the HU games last year using the scanning cards. Sure, they weren't foolproof, but they were THERE, and they got us excited and participating. That says something...it says they're willing to use new technology, even if it may not be perfect, and even if they don't have it all figured out. Many other companies would never take a gamble like that during such a huge event.
  18. So quick theory/thought/whatever: I have a feeling horror unearthed OR something like it is coming back around. Maybe this is where LT would come into play, actually. Not sure what, but bear with me. This past weekend I visited the big bad mouse in orlando and, to my surprise (and delight), they've started implementing the card scanning technology for entrance into the parks (put your ticket/card against the scanner, verify with thumbprint if entering a park, cool green lighting up thing tells you it worked). Eventually the fastpass system will also work with the scanners instead of the machines they have now. Anyway, this seemed important because, if UNI knew this was going to be happening and tried to roll it out during HHN last year before Disney did, albeit a bit unsuccessfully, they might go full force with it this year as part of an interactive game in the park. Again, this isn't a fully developed idea in my mind, but Chris mentioned the horror unearthed scanning thing and the lightbulb in my head went off.
  19. In reference to Dr. J's "surname" clue... A surname is a family name, or a last name. And it's not used in all cultures, and it hasn't always been used. There was something in England, created by the Normans, called a Domesday Book, made around the 1080's. It was basically a survey, and used surnames officially. It was called the "Book of Judgment" because it was the last word on what people owned and how much they had, according to their surname. No one could appeal it. Domesday....Doomsday...going back to the Balloons theory involving 99 Luft Balloons and the nuclear holocaust/apocalypse theme....it could be far-reaching, but it's worth mentioning. Also, maybe "surname" has to do with a specific family or group in horror. The Munsters, The Addams, The Bates, The Vorhees...
  20. Actually, speaking of Del Toro....did anyone see the spanish film The Orphanage? GREAT horror flick...and falls into line with the whole children/spanish/paranormal idea.
  21. I'm Cuban American and from Miami, so I represent the flood of Florida Residents from South FL that bombard HHN every year lol...La Llorona is, I believe, a Mexican urban myth. The majority of South Florida is NOT Mexican, but instead Central or South American, and is therefore not familiar with the story. I personally had never heard of La Llorona before HHNH started using it. However, I think it could be successful, if it's given the right marketing. Actually, aiming at the Hispanic demographic in Florida might be a great idea for their numbers....so who knows.
  22. white cloth in spanish would be pañito blanco....or something to that effect. Unless it's a spanglish thing, mixing the two languages. Also a possibility. Here's a few others.... masochistically prophylactic psychopathological psychoanalytic claustrophobic schoolteacher (lol)
