  1. Nooooo, is it maybe because it's preview night.

Murdy said this on Twitter :

@Horror "Nights Well we survived preview or as I like to call it, dress rehearsal with people. Going to hit the ground running tomorrow, horror never sleeps.

Now that we made it past preview, we're gonna work like possessed people to dial in everything that needs to be ready for Friday. Long list!

There's set pieces and effects that weren't in for preview so a lot more is flying in over the next 48 hours! #HorrorNeverSleeps"

Do you think everything will be better by friday or next week when I go on the 26th?

It'll definitely get better. Even so, I think this may still be the weakest year. We'll just have to wait and see but I'm sure you'll still have a great time! Ill make an effort to go at the end of October to see the improvements and I'm hoping this turns out to be another solid year. I've been attending the preview nights for a few years now, and this just was the least impressive one so far, but who knows you may still be impressed. Its all subjective. This is the End has no hope of being saved though. Lol

  2. Damn I'm gonna be broke. I'm definitely buying the house shirt, hoodie, phone case, lanyard, mug, collectible Mini Jack figure and probably more. Plus I'm seriously considering dropping $300 on that Jack collectible. God damn it. Finally a good year of merch. Our merch in Hollywood this year is terrible so I guess I can focus on all this merch instead. =]

  3. Grindhousehero13 & DTH, I completely agree with you both. The creative team is TOO small, and they honestly seem tired. Chris Williams is a fantastic art director, but because he's the only one you can tell which mazes and specific scenes he puts the most time into. Same thing can be said about John... We've seen him design some outstanding mazes - TCM, Halloween, Insidious, AVP, F13, NOES, etc. but then there are a ton of misses too. They need to expand the team like Orlando, or go back into creative areas related to daytime operation and pass the torch to someone new who's ready to focus on providing a consistent experience throughout the entire line up of mazes and scarezones. You know the paranormal aspect John was so excited about this year for Halloween? Think about any of the static figures they've placed behind a mirror in Insidious or a handful of other mazes... That's all they did with Halloween. Static Michael Myer figures appearing and disappearing, and it looked TERRIBLE. The Walking Dead had static zombies lined up on both sides in one room, with a handful of real scareactors acting like they too were mannequins. When has a zombie ever stood completely still like that and then randomly sprang to life? I understand using that scare tactic in the further, but that's unacceptable in a Walking Dead maze. Oh, and guess what- that zombie horde static prop being pushed towards you was the finale scare in the maze once again. Big surprise.... I hate being so down about the event but even with this mediocre line up, I went into preview night with a ton of excitement. I never go in wanting to hate the event, and I've never left so disappointed. I'm beyond thankful I get to go to Orlando's HHN again this year, because they are the top dogs. Our event isn't even half as good as theirs unfortunately.

I think your forgetting about Dracula

I enjoyed Dracula Untold. Was it a great maze? Not even close, but the cast was so damn good. The facade was still better than This is the End's facade... Yes, it's that bad.

  4. Have to disagree with you arsik on this is the end facade, from what I saw it looks pretty dope, or at least what I wanted

It didn't look like James Franco's multimillion dollar mansion. It looked like pieces of plywood painted black, with slits throughout it to have red led lights shining through it. It really was the most unimpressive facade we've had. Voodoo, Black Magic, and a handful of other KSF mazes look SO much better than it. While I agree with Freak about KSF quality improving, I still don't think they're anywhere near Orlando's HHN quality, but they have improved.

  5. So I most likely won't be able to post my Preview Night review for a few days, but I'll give a brief summation of my thoughts.

I know this is a dress rehearsal and things will improve, but this honestly may be the weakest year I've attended in the past 9 years. Insidious was practically perfect. The cast was on fire! Halloween was a close second. Everything else was underwhelming.

TWD has potential to be pretty good as soon as the cast gets the hang of their surroundings. Their energy was still very good and they got me a few times. For it being the "longest maze", there were a lot of blank hallways to fill the space. Lots of static zombies throughout. Very poor translation of some of the show's scenes that happened in season 5.

Crimson Peak looked beautiful. Ghost costumes looked cheap though. Similar to La Llorona (1st year) - creepy sets, lacking scares.

AVP - Same as last year. Some predators were missing, but I'm sure they'll be there on opening night. Cast wasn't very good but theyll improve.

This is the End - WOW, this was really, really, really bad. Without a doubt the worst maze in HHN history, and worse than most KSF mazes to be honest. Ineffective 3D (one lighting effect was cool though), demon puppets looked cartoony, and the facade was hideous (incomplete but still looks very basic).

Terror Tram- Same shit, different theme. Purge couldn't save the tram. YAWN.

Scarezones during preview night are never as good because of the smaller crowds but I really enjoyed Exterminatorz and Dark Christmas  Purge and Corpz were boring.

  6. There I made this legible. I wonder if this is a new display at Horror and Make-up? If so, maybe it will be up longer than just for HHN?

Oops, sorry for posting it like that. Saw it on the IGN website and didn't thinking about it not being legible after pasting it.

  7. IGN: There is a Crimson Peak presence at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal in Orlando as well this year, right? Did you talk to the team there about a maze?

Del Toro: We didn’t talk about the maze but we did talk about things that would be exclusive to Orlando like a make up effects and wardrobe exhibition. They’re going to have some of the wardrobe from the movie, which is quite beautiful and powerful. The movie has a level of visual and audio design of high caliber and beauty. They wanted to showcase some of the craftsmanship of the wardrobe and the displays and stuff like that.

  8. Sorry for my marketing bitch fest last night...rough week at work coupled with a few "adult beverages" to unwind and got worked up :)

I have no problem with anybody's opinion of the event and respect each and every opinion, it's just that this year has been REALLY heavy on the bitching and just had to vent about the "us vs marketing" mentality.

    ---------------------------------------------------

Sooooo glad Potterland is open this year.  I have daily park tickets so don't really care about the rides, but the people eater effect and being able to run in, in the dark, and get some cool pictures of the streets and the dragon breathing fire are just going to be awesome.  Should also tempt a lot of people since that's the dead area of the park.

Hold up, Harry Potter is confirmed to be open for HHN???!

  9. I mean, that's only one costume. I do sorta agree. I feel this could end up being the "cool / fun, but not necessarily scary" maze. I think even if I'm not scared, there should be a lot of fun in seeing where the assassins come from.

That's true, and I know I can't base my opinion about the maze as a whole just because I saw one mask. Regardless I'm sure I'll have fun. Last year, Giggles and Gore was the only dud during my walk throughs so with that track record I have 100% confidence A&D can execute this well.

  10. I think people keep forgetting that the black wall is not even with the facade. The facade is 2-3 feet in front of the black wall. It's possible that there could be a projection on it, but it's harder to project onto black than onto white, so I don't think that's what it's for. They may still do a projection on the main facade though, I'm pretty sure John said something about Judith's death being in the window.

I was thinking maybe they'll have trees placed in front of the black walls on both sides of the house. I think that'd make the facade look even better, plus there are wooden gates on both sides of the house so they can easily have the trees behind it held in place.

  11. I was way more excited about this maze before seeing the picture of one of the costumes at the media preview. I think it's unique how each room may be themed differently depending on where the assassin is from, but the Japanese mask we were shown doesn't look scary at all. Don't get me wrong, the concept still sounds cool, I just really hope it's executed well so we actually feel like we're somewhat in danger. If not, this maze seems like it could be the dud of the bunch.

  12. For whatever reason, last year while waiting to go in G&G, I decided to actually read the full disclaimer sign outside the house entrance.  I've always known cameras weren't allowed in the houses, never bothered reading those signs to know that.  So at this time, I notice it specifically said no flash photography.  I then proceeded to get into a light argument with the security guard on how the sign says nothing about no flash, so I should be able to go no flash.  At that point, he too apparently never fully read it and just said: look, all I know is you can't film or take pictures.

Ahhhh that really sucks. I just want one clip that's maybe 5-6 seconds long in Freddy vs Jason so I may risk it since I've been waiting for this maze for 9 years. But thanks for the advice, besides that attempt I'll keep my phone in my pocket and just enjoy the event.

In the photography tips thread, I've read people talking about using external flashes on their DSLRs, is that acceptable? That's the one thing that Hollywoods event doesn't allow at all. A flash goes off out in the scarezones and they're on you real quick.

Sidenote: I can't wait for the coverage of today's media night!!!

  13. So last year I was testing out the slow mo recording on my iPhone during HHN last year in Hollywood and managed to get a few great clips of scares that utilized a strobe. If I were have my phone out in a maze in Orlando, would they immediately tell me to put it away or would it be fine as long as I don't have the flash on? If I were to have it out and someone said something, worst thing that could happen is they say put it away right? Or could I get kicked out of the maze?

  14. By any chance you wouldn't happen to have the TWD logo with the subtitle "Living and the Dead" in high resolution would you?

Would you be willing to do one more version for the iPhone 6 with Jacks logo and the Monsters and mayhem writing slightly lower instead of the blue lines and then the featured maze properties like you already had above ? If not, even that original one resized is cool. Sorry for being so picky! XO lol

  15. I thought Hollywood came up with bad names but my god this is worse than our scarezones that end with a Z. Lol Regardless, the actual content of the zone sounds great and the banners alone have gotten me very excited.

  16. Body collectors have always been mentioned whenever I would dig up past discussions on this site so I'm so damn excited to finally come face to face with them. The setting, era, and characters mentioned sound fascinating so I'm really excited for this one. Since they are going after crazed patients, will these patients be fighting back since I've seen a few of you bring up the VS aspect? I know no one knows but what do you guys think? Will they primarily be victims already when entering a room or will there be aggressive interactions between the two groups? I feel like if there is a struggle between the collectors and the patients, the BC may not come off as intimidating enough.
