^Wait a minute, they yelled at you while you were out of character?
Oops, I don't want to get too far off-topic. I speculate that we will have a bunch of fabricated buildings populated by a bunch a people in their pajamas yelling "Booo!", "Rarrrr!", and "Don't touch,THAT!"

So....I'm thinking of auditioning this year. Pretty excited.
Do you guys think there is a small possibility if the Exorcist? He passed up Freddy Vs. Jason for a reason.
I hope you are chosen as a scareactor this year so we can take full advantage of the Super Secret Attack Word!

Thanks for the info guys! Really excited to fly out this event finally, and the VIP Experience sounds pretty much worth it, cuz GA, FOL passes, parking, and food all would probably cost around the same.
We have used it since 2011 because visiting from out of state only allows us for a one time shot at HHN. I love being able to repeat mazes to see the different takes on characters during cast changes. And, having another Dream Theater aficionado can only add more class to the event! Hee Hee!

Trying to pick myself out of the post House of Horrors/Stage 28 doldrums... Waaah!
-
I am one of those who found the character Ghostface as rather silly, but not because of Scary Movie. It's almost a caricature of slasher-villians and was portrayed as a a clumsy predator. The robe and the way Ghostface ran did not help. However... the films were entertaining and tried a different approach to the genre. Lastly, HHN has successfully developed attractions that some thought were not good for the event (Alice Cooper, Insidious, etc). While I have no desire for a Scream maze, I believe it could be done well. In the end, why even produce an attraction if Murdy has no desire for the property.

Dems Fightin" Words, Hunnylvr! (Just kidding, hee hee). While I consider HHN California as my "home" haunt event, I could not help but be immensely impressed with Orlando duirng my first visit in 2014. Specifically, the Walking Dead house in Orlando made just about any house in Hollywood seem tame (and I thoroughly enjoyed HHN-CA!) and even rides like The Mummy had a far greater thrill factor and effects than the west coast version.Orlando is WAY better than Hollywood, IMO.. so you'll LOVE this experience. But the bigger question: Why the hell would you move from perfect San Diego to Orlando??
However, the Hollywood event feels more intimate and contained, and I am rarely rushed to get through the event allowing time to enjoy the ambience. (Roanoke seemed like a Hollywood style of maze; I loved it!) Lastly, while I can't quite put my finger on it, HHN-Hollywood always has a charge in the air, as if the historical significance of being a film studio plays a role in enjoying the event.
But you now have Freddy vs Jason.....wish I could be there!

The tour and dinner are scheduled at specific times and only take up part of the night. While you are basically free to do what you want, the tour adds some structure to the night and also allows plenty of free time to repeat mazes, rides, etc.

Oh, you tease! Sometimes I think this site is on a never ending loop of cursed posts. Exit stage right, even!

Nice review! I do agree that Dracula had some great moments. It had a House of Horrors vibe (which I typically found to be a great underdog maze).
-
No stomach showing. I guess the best way to describe it would be like a halter top.
So we now have go-go's portrayed as murderous, psychopathic Purgers who are more dignified? Hee Hee.

Robots that are in the Army,
Very good, and wildly different review for Orlando's event! Loved it. In some ways, I think seeing a different event gives you a whole new perspective of HHN. I cannot tell you how many times I commented on the differences Orlando had based on my six year experience with Hollywood. Almost like a kid in a candy store for the first time. Does that make one better than the other? Not sure, but Orlando provided me with some great memories and probable return visits.

Both wear a robe now. I thought maybe the first girl was conservative or something and wasn't comfortable with a skimpy outfit. I then get to the second bar scene and the vampire version is wearing a robe too.
Like seriously, who the eff complained to make that happen?
I'll also add I didn't see any go-gos on the lower lot for the first hour.
Are you referring to the first Snake-Dancing Santanico? If so, that would seem way out of place because of the original character's scene. But I tell you, based on what stories are coming out of this board and the media, I have always been surprised that the go-go's in any form have not been scrapped. I, for one, have always enjoyed the character go-go's. They are always on top of their game, are absolutely stunning, and impressed how they are able to maintain the physicality of their roles. But, by golly, that is degrading to women, and you cannot have any examples of fantasy.....especially at an event that immerses you in a world of horror films, with blood, guts, gore, fear that is designed for guests under the age of ten! No horror film in history had ever featured anything related to sex or other mature-themed content (wink, wink). I better not detail my encounter/picture op with the front Purge go-go....it may make national headlines and force them to wear 1920's bathing suits while gyrating to classical chamber music.
By the way, were the front Purge go-go's performing that night?

Damn. Reading this makes me want to go to Hollywood so bad. If only I had the money and the time I'd be on the first plane there. I'm sure people in Cali say the same thing but damn.
Hollywood is a great event and I had the chance to finally see Orlando's on October 5th. Let me tell you, they are different but both are excellent! Although, I wish Orlando had the VIP/RIP like the one on the west coast (dinner, unlimited express) .

Great updated review, DTH! If only I could return, boo-hoo
-
Thanks for the template, DTH. Makes it easier to plagerize, er, I mean submit the post. Have yet to experience a bad maze so I split the mazes into what I thought were excellent with others that were good. Then I ranked them within each category (tuff go at it!)

Last Sunday (10/5), I received the best scare in years while in Dracula Untold (Orlando). I love the check out the house details and have fun immersing myself in the property. During the first half of the maze, the scareactor playing Vlad/Dracula popped out in front of me while I was looking in a different direction and he actually scared me to the point I had a chill down my spine! I was impressed with how ominous he appeared, the costume was impressive, and he made some kind metallic sound as he bared his fangs. He even looked like Luke Evans. Give this man some kind of award!

I felt bad for people waiting for The Walking Meh (JDW's perfect name for it). Last night I saw it hit 120 mins. I would have died if I waited that long for that house.
I know a lot of folks think the Walking Dead house is the devil's concubine, but I thought it was excellent. It blows away any version that Hollywood has offered over the past three years (scareactors were awesome regardless). The Orlando house was firing on all cylinders on Sunday, October 5th.

The Fly... ewwwwww. Can't imagine what smells he would have.
Only the spring fresh scents of Fly Vomit on dissolving flesh being sucked back up by a genetically merged fly dude. HA HA!
-
The FLY! I would love to see the various "Brundlefly" transformation scenes and a full size teleportation set. Maybe a nod or two for the original Vincent Price movies.

This year was a big change to VIP from previous. You are getting a lot less this year than in previous years, for the same money.
Downgrades this year:
* "Unlimited" dining in the lounge. I put this in quotes because I think you can technically get back in later in the night. I mean, your pass has a dining time written on it, but they don't take it from you and don't mark you as having been through. So there should be nothing to stop you from showing up a second time ("late") for dinner. Of course, the wording is meant to strongly suggest you are allowed only one entry, so I consider this a downgrade.
* No VIP backlot tour. It was really cool in the past to be able to wander around the real backlot in pitch blackness with just a flashlight.
* No discount at the Studio Store - in past years, you got a 10%-20% discount on HHN merchandise the evening of your visit. This was potentially substantial in value.
"Upgrades" this year:
* A VIP tour guide to get you through every house. I see no added value in this. Personally, I would consider myself to be slowed down if I had to stick with a group for 4 hours of the evening. In reality, you can leave any time you want.
* Private scarezone - 30 feet of walkway and 4 scareactors from a nearby zone does not a scarezone make. No value whatsoever.
* A (one-way) tram to the backlot houses - Seriously? This is a VIP perk? No value at all.
So to answer whether VIP is worth it, you really need to put a value on three things:
1) Valet parking. Yes, it's a $35 freebie, but you would have just paid for regular parking anyway, so it's worth $15. Plus, if you have a carload of 4 VIP passholders, each one of them is PAYING for free valet parking, but only one is GETTING the perk. You want to get your money's worth? Take 4 cars
2) Free dinner. It's a damn good spread. It should easily be worth $30 in the real world and even more in a theme park.
3) Unlimited Front Line Pass. This is what you are really paying for. What value do you place on unlimited entries vs one?
Add those up and compare the result to the cost of a FOTL pass. Is that difference worth it to you?
Then feel REALLY cheated because back in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 the standard FOTL pass was good for unlimited entries into houses. They changed the policy to the one-time-use starting in 2011.
Very nice. I agree with the value aspect to your post. For me, I thought VIP was more efficient and "tighter". Was able to accomplish more of what I wanted than in years past. Highly recommend going early in the season. The reduced price is worth it.

Weeellll, I wouldn't exactly say it's completely safe anymore judging by the crowd these past weeks.......
Figuratively speaking...
-
No, this was way back in '08 or '09. I personally thought it was uncalled for to make fun of someone's race and sexuality, which were things I had dealt with for over three years in high school. While I do understand that Norman was just trying to do his job, I do sympathize with the lady who wrote the yelp review. Words do harm people, it can even drive to them to do harmful things to themselves and others. In all honesty, misogyny is just as bad as racism or any other form of bigotry.
Your post indirectly points out why Halloween Horror Nights is not for everyone (and not just for those under the age of 13). Look at the content of all the attractions over the years. It is designed to be uncomfortable but offers a safe place to encounter your fears.

Thank you for clarifying.....yes those are the ones. I just wish I could have seen and admired the make-up (or maybe I am just jealous of people with all that hair). Ha Ha!
-
Elaborate? Which walkers?
I am not sure what "type" of walkers these were in this part of the attraction, but we encountered them just as you pass the Norman Bates photo-op. There is some kind of transition where you enter an enclosed space towards the end of Terror Tram. From above, there are some quick scares by walkers that bang on the walls and then lunge at the guests. The reason I refer to them as "rockstar walkers" is all I could see on the three were flannel shirts and a lot hair that covered the faces. I immediately thought of Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. Great effort, but I could not tell for the life of me if there was any zombie-like makeup.

Oh, don't be such a Negative Nelly, Freak! Just joshing. I agree that Del Toro is able to visualize and create awesome set designs. Maybe this will result in some effective scares as folks are admiring the sets.
