  1. After losing VIP,  this show will be lowest priority for my visit.   Would even prefer rides to this.   Now that I think about it,  have never attended without unlimited FOL.  May have to rethink this and develop  "gameplan for geezers". :D

  2. Mazes:

    1. Insidious:  One of the best mazes I had a chance to go through in '13!  Scares were consistent and scareactors were very aggressive.  Look forward to elements of Chapter 3.
    2. Halloween:  '09 was great, '14 Orlando was a huge crowd-pleaser and very good, and one of my all-time favorite films.
    3. Walking Dead:  Love the show and it looks like Hollywood is taking a cue from Orlando and making it a super-maze.  If the maze ends up being close to what Orlando developed, your memories of a so-so property should fade.
    4. Crimson Peak:  Very interested in the film and hoping the scenery is top notch.
    5. This Is The End:  The film is goofy and silly; hoping the maze will be the same:unsure:.
    6. Aliens Vs Predator:  While not my favorite from '14, I feel it was the best maze overall and impressively designed.  Look forward to property once again.

    Scarezones:

    1. Corpz:  Thought this should have been a scarezone last year....highly anticipated!
    2. Dark Christmas:  Hoping to get a break in the action to see this group at work.....absolutely fantastic last year.
    3. Exterminatorz:  Hmmmm....ummm.....not sure what to think yet.  Hoping they will sell HHN Crocs with Crocs merch this year.  Hee Hee.
    4. The Purge:  Not a big fan of The Purge, but look forward to Terror Tram every year.
  3. The only thing I can picture for this scarezone is Arnold Swarzenegger as a mutant bug walking around the front entrance yelling things like:

"I am the Exturmenatorz, and you little people are stahting to BUGG me!" or,

"Here comes da humans, Get to Da Choppa!"

    I know, I know.......I got nuthin':predator:

  4. After the big VIP massacre and letdown, all I had to do is think about the evil Santa stroking his gruesome tongue  and pretending to stir my hot chocolate with his finger!  All is now good in the world.

    Ah, the simple things.....

  5. From the press release...each will have its own thread.

    Scare Zones:

    • “The Purge: Urban Nightmare,” inspired by Universal Pictures’ disturbing blockbuster films, will greet guests with pure unadulterated fear, bringing to life the turmoil and pandemonium that awaits those vulnerable to masked vigilantes in search of new victims during the government’s annually sanctioned killing spree.
    • “Exterminatorz” introduces hideous hybrid creatures—part pests, part human—spawned from years of dangerous chemicals recklessly dumped down the drains by irresponsible humans. These now persecuted pests arise from the cesspools to turn the tables and retaliate on their human oppressors.
    • “Corpz” features an army of decaying World War I soldiers known as “The Lost Generation,” who have risen from their dank, muddy graves to haunt the streets of old Paris.
    • Krampus, the demonic Christmas Devil, returns in “Dark Christmas,” a Pagan-themed scare zone where demonic creatures hunt disobedient children and drag them to hell.

  6. There is no reason this maze should be a letdown; I thought it was the best of the event last year.  Don't see a big drop in stock for this one just because of being a repeat.  I really wanted AWIL to be the best in 2014 but it was hard to argue with AVP's superior technical prowess.

  7. Great Caesar's Ghost, Hauntfan, I believe you are correct!:D  I had to get out my HHN lanyards (I know, HHN geek/nerd) and sure enough 2010 was unlimited FOL.

2010 was actually the last year they had unlimited access on FOL because we did FOL for the first time that year........and it was amazing. We tried GA last year because we didn't want to shell out so much money and did the whole early entry and backlot to front lot strategy and it worked out ok but the lower lot was where we had hour plus waits on mazes.

Yep.  Noted the correction above.  My already fallible memory is getting worse-er-er.  It was great to see alot of folks taking advantage of the early entrance last year.  Even the lower lot mazes were walk-ons for the first hour or so.

  8. The fun kind of gets taken out of announcements when you know what it is

I could see why you feel this way, kind of cheapens the excitement of the announcement.   I would prefer for Universal provide all the details early on because 1).  I stink-like-a-monkey at the speculation game, and  2). I enjoy planning my yearly trip out to California and would prefer as much information as possible.

  9. While I love the diversity of attractions at HHN, I really enjoyed the event last year without the show.  And it seems most on these boards thought 2014 was one of the best years for Hollywood.  I would rather repeat mazes,  scarezones , or enjoy rides before waiting for and seeing a show.

  10. We were recently discussing the WD on the speculation thread.  Hollywood is following suit with what Orlando brought to the table last year.  I think it is smart....bigger, longer, more aggressive scares can only improve on what the property has already given us.  Can't wait for the new season...always look forward to the series to help me through the "Sunday-before-work doldrums".

Freak or Grind:  Where is the WD placard in the beginning post...consistency, gentlemen!

  11. Just found this on Twitter courtesy of @horror_buzz it looks like it only has 2 windows, so I think the facade may be the Myers house, although the walls are huge.

^^ To me it looks like it could be the Doyle house. The size of the facade really intrigues me.

Maybe my eyesight is getting worse, but if that picture is the façade for Halloween it looks no larger than most of the other scaled down facades.  It seems like they would just use the Myers house as the entry based on what has already been used in the past.  While it would be cool to use the Doyle house or Haddenfield hospital, they are not as iconic as the original home.

  12. ^yup. Based off videos I've seen of previous years, 2012's TWD in Hollywood was pretty amazing. Don't remember thinking much of 2013's and never bothered watching 2014's.

TWD was the longest wait every night in 2012 (usually around 200 min), but not too bad in 2013 (most crowded year up to that point, and still the highest wait was 130 at any house). Last year was fucking terrible for lines at all houses (TWD, AvP, Halloween and Drac Untold were routinely 150-180, with the rest 90-130 on the worst nights), but Halloween was usually the longest line of the night, and when TWD was posting the 160-180min wait times, it was usually off by a LOT. I think last year was the first year TWD was in the running for guest favorite, but it was still seconded by Halloween. Didn't even come close in 2013, and it didn't win in 2012 either.

TWD is never an amazing house, or the unanimous favorite of the event, but last year's was the closest to that happening.

Saw RUSH in Tampa a few months ago. What a show!

"The World is... The World is..."B)

Anywayz, I think the point of the current discussion is that Walking Dead can be done differently in Hollywood with great results.  It all comes down to whether there is a concerted effort to bolster the property or continue on autopilot.

  13. I believe hes referring to that instead of doing it in the parade building, they made it the largest house of Horror Nights history, for 2014 by putting it in a SS. Atleast, that's what I see of what he said.

Just returned from the RUSH concert and I guess it is an unwritten rule that people in my age demographic have to pay attention to the task at hand and refrain from playing on the phone.  Pffft!   Pretty much what Alexshow said, but also the execution of the maze was spot on, the scenery was far superior to Hollywood, and there were many, many, Walkers who were aggressive with scares.  The Terminites (ha) interacted with the guests, and dare I say, had guns in a few of the scenes that resulted in effective action scenes.

Edit: Impressed with Forever's description of WD,  who posted just prior to my original post.  Amazing house. Polar opposite of Hollywood's more intimate maze.

  14. I'm all for this idea, cuz just why not at this point. It'd be something new for this property. Lol or if not that, black and white style.

Coming from the Orlando side, I've liked all 3 houses. 2012 was eh, 13 was good, 14 was very good. But it's very much the same type of house every year. I'm all for a change in style, cuz if we HAVE to keep dealing with it, let's try some new shit, huh?

I do have to say, what Orlando did with the Walking Dead in 2014 WAS something new compared to the Hollywood version. To me,  WD-H felt tired and sparse. Not bad, just well,  there.  Orlando had energy and detailed, immersive scenes.

  15. Look forward to this maze even more after seeing Insidious 3 last night.  Best maze from 2013; I am glad that they skipped a year in order to get a "full recharge" for the property.

(Useless info:  saw the film at the last scheduled time, at the only theater in the Phoenix area.  No longer showing at first run houses.  Only two of us in the theater which made for a creepy atmosphere):zombie2:
