  1. Actually there is a big difference between showing Andrea and an Andrea like generic blonde zombie lol. It's much much easier to get away with the zombie version because it will act just like every other zombie and won't talk. Hence why you have a Milton like zombie in the house. You can't copyright a zombie in glasses lol

  2. I wonder, there is no way around that?

what if they made the characters look the way they do in the comics? I don't know, just thinking out loud here...

Yeah the only problem with that is the main characters look so different in the comic that most people would be confused at what they were looking at. Which would kinda defeat the object of doing it in the first place. Can you imagine hearing the GP constantly asking "Why has Rick only got one hand? Who's the bald Asian guy?". The only way around it is AMC pay the actors which would mean AMC charging HHN for their use which means less budget to be used elsewhere. It's a shame but personally I think that house last year suffered due to lack of scareactors not lack of characters.

  3. Ok caught up on this thread after being away awhile. All I can say about TWD house is that whether you liked or loathed the walkthrough videos the good news is that's going to be the poorest house of them all. All the other houses are of the highest quality so if you liked TWD then you're gonna be blown away by the others. I can also confirm what JW said about the tours. UNI sales gave me the exact same list of houses for the morning and afternoon tours when I booked so unless they change it that's what you will get :)

  4. I'm actually amazed nobody thinks Resident Evil will be the first house revealed. Isn't it the biggest franchise at this years event? Multiple movies, multiple games, books etc etc etc. that would be my guess anyway to interest the widest spectrum of general public. I agree with JW when he says TWD is kinda a repeat and wouldn't be a good marketing tool. Also AWIL while being a classic is too old and non relevant to be an effective first house reveal. Just my thoughts....

Oh and a few thoughts on the Evil Dead. Seeing as it was a latish replacement for American Horror Story I can't see it being the focus of this years event or have a connection to the 23 logo. My guess, like many of you is that it's a nod to the legions returning.....in one form or other :)

  5. Prison cell gates like that don't necessarily mean it's going to be a prison-based house. First thing that comes to my mind is Forsaken. Sure, different style gates, but that house had a jail cell scene but had nothing to do with a prison.

Yes, yes and yes. Maybe it starts in a prison but moves on or back to other places....

  6. I think it's too early to be "sure" of anything. My first impulse was to say, "Well, shit, if this really is the deal, then my thoughts of flying down THREE times for this year is scrapped." We flew down twice last year, and it was awesome to get to experience everything for two whole weekends. I know, I know, you all get it every weekend, but this was a big deal for us... so much so, that we were already figuring the logistics of the trifecta. So, I'll just sit back and watch you all speculate because I SUCK at it, and then we'll see what actually sticks. I'll make the decision on travel much, much later.

Rocky Horror would be great if they didn't tame it down to a cheesy G rating. I mean, seriously, WTF - this isn't Disney which is why I love it so much.

Sorry to say you better scrap that triple travel plan idea then because barring any last second changes like last year that is the correct list lol. I'm Not happy about its IP heavy lineup, I'm kinda disappointed in its lack of originality and I'm starting to wonder if marketing is running out of ideas but that's the list. IP's worked for UNI last year so they've obviously decided to go back to the well so to speak. I really wish A&D had more control over the houses we got because we'd see a much better house list. Sorry guys

  7. So, given that it looks like there's a rumored prison house as well as a return of TWD, which one do you think this will be? As much as I'd like to keep the larger areas clear for the other houses, I'm guessing this is the other prison house.

I think you're right on that one. The gate style and an electric chair doesn't fit with TWD prison at all if you think about it

  8. Ironically as the nights passed the more crowds it drew lol. You would think that word would spread about the event being "terrible" as you claim it to be. Butwhat do i know.

I never said last year was terrible, in fact I clearly stated I had fun. Saying that I'm not going to sugar coat it, as a collection of houses last year in my opinion was the weakest lineup I've experienced. If you disagree with me that's cool as you are entitled to your opinion too. I'm just saying that I've yet to hear anyone say last year was their favourite year ever and that to me is telling. I'm sure there has to be some out there that think that ive just not found one and i talk to a lot of our community. I can't quote what nights the attendance were better or if in fact it got busier as the event went along. I always do the last week and I know it was busier than previous years. I do know that a lot of people buy multi night tickets like I do and if you've shelled out that money to attend I'm gonna get my monies worth out of it whether the event is poor or not. I guess overall I feel that UNI got quantity over quality last year. QUANTITY of attendees over QUALITY of houses. They will view that as a successful year even though many of us won't.

  9. I've been going to hhn since it was called Fright night. You don't need an icon, centralized them, houses that tie in with each other. Some of the best houses I seen where ip houses, and some of the best years ive seen didn't have icons. Doe that make me less "hardcore" then some of you? I beg to differ. Last year we had all the things some of you hated so much, including as someone said "washed up" celebrities and it seem to wo go over with the masses, just look at the wait times for validation. It's a BUSINESS' so you have to reach out a broader audience, and not just please a fringe group. Just my two cents, btw i enjoyed last years event very much.

Well although I've not been going to HHN as long as you (blame living in England) last years event was the worst one ive attended. I still had fun and i still enjoyed it but it paled in comparison to the previous years especially the house quality. It was also the most heavily attended which I suppose proves that the advertising and IP's worked for UNI. Doesn't mean we have to be happy about their new approach, which will be repeated this year without a doubt. I personally prefer an icon and clear theme to the whole event, but I cannot deny that marketing a known IP worked from a business sense for them last year. Although it brought people in that doesn't mean the GP thought the event better than other years though. Once you've bought your ticket you are obliged to use it (you've paid for it after all) but I'd be interested to hear what the GP thought of the event compared to previous years. I've yet to hear one person say that last year was their favourite year but I open up the floor for someone to disagree with that and tell me why.

  10. Ifrit at it again....

    Text clue reads:

"What they do, what you hear is the basis of what they are. Don't rock the boat and you can see if you truly are a star."

As a personal side note: if this means the return of Alice Cooper...I think I'm going to cry....

Hmmm what could someone named Alice and STARS possibly have in common lol :P

  11. I've been very sick for the last three days. Well, I still am but I'm at work... What are ya gonna do?

Anyway, the point is it gave me time to read (game of thrones), draw, and catch up on TWD. I hated the first two seasons of TWD.

I hated the characters, I hated how slow it was, and how every person the group came across is psychotic.

I watched season 3.... bc I had recorded it and what else was I supposed to do all day. I actually liked it. They killed off most of the crap characters.

I STILL don't care to see TWD at HHN again. It just isn't scary. being attacked by things that move that slow is laughable. Even the show I am incredulous as to how anyone ever gets bitten.

JW hang your head in shame lol. Loving or hating the characters is one of the main strengths of the show. A lot of people tuned in each week to see Shane or Lori die lol. I think this is one of the reasons the house failed (no characters) although there were many other reasons too. Being understaffed was my main gripe but I seriously wouldn't be surprised if they did a house based on season 3 this year.
