  1. If your so focused on the roofs then your missing the main points. So many people put so much hard work into this event, including the SA's. I know i lost about 10lbs last year from the work i put into the event trying to scare. Our creative directors spend thier whole year thinking up these crazy, insane, fun houses for us and all we can think about is the roofs? its sad that so much hard work is being put into the event and the roofs is the discussion. I can tell you from an SA perspective that the Creative Directors and other teams are proud of the work they put in in costuming and set design, and they work so hard to make sure everything is perfect for US, the fans. Its sad that they cant see and just appreciate the hard work in front of them rather than petty things like roofs.

Thats all im gonna say on the matter because #1, this is the wrong thread for this, its taking away from the anticipation of The Forsaken and #2, im going to enjoy the hard work that has been put in. I mean no offense from this post and sorry if i pulled someones chain, its just what came into my mind.

Dude. No one was insulting A&D or the SAs. Everyone on here has the utmost repect for all the talented people who work so hard ot put on the event. All anyone said is that they think roofs add to the house. *hands you a chill pill* This is for you.

Anyway, interesting that there's no facade. I'll be very curious to see how they throw you right in!!! And I LOVE the look of the ghosts. Cannot wait for this!

  2. I do, thanks. It kills the immersion to look up and find you're just in a big warehouse. The black cloths strewn about or the grating weren't anything fancy but they were effective in preserving the illusion. Besides, many effects actually call for you to look up (see the Stygian Witches scene in Hades).

I know it's apparently now a fire code thing, but you'd think Universal could find a way to work around that. Disney seems to get away with it all the time (Reedy Creek benefits notwithstanding.)

I second that! Roofs absolutely add to the experience. Think of the Wyandot Estate last year. It was hard to believe I was in a, actual huge house when the walls stop just 2 feet above my head.

Oh, and the ghosts looking like the ones from the Fog is a very good thing in my book!!!

  3. There has always been ambient lighting and sound in the houses as far back as I can remember (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). How does a roof stop them from having sound? It's easy to place a speaker in the corner of any given room and hide it with a prop of some sorts. Yes it's easier not to have a roof so you can just have one large sound system or lighting rig. Although not having roofs takes away from the overall feeling of the house. I see why Uni wouldn't want to have a roof considering it's easier and costs less to not have one but I think they listened to the fans on this one.

Yeah. Agreed. I think they're explanation just might have been spin so they didn't look like they were cheaping out. But it doesn't make much logical sense.

  4. This will be my 21st year of attending the event and I can honestly tell you that over the course of the past two decades, there have a number of ebbs and tides in terms of the overall "hype" of each year. Some years truly live up to the talk around them, others not so much. It all comes down to what you the guest expect. Don't go in expecting much of anything! For Fright Night and the early years of the event, there was not much hype surrounding it simply because it was still growing and not considered a premier Halloween event to attend. Every year since the inception of the website, guests and fans in general expect more and more. Many people view the website as a precusor as to how amazing the event will be, which obviously can lead to a serious letdown.

Personally, I wasn't a fan of HHN 18 at all...but see, you were. So it's all about your perception of the event and if the overall concept, including houses and scare zones, appeal to you or not. This year is being looked forward to by many because essentially it is the year that our event becomes "legal" so to speak; another milestone like Sweet 16 was. The "Lady Luck" theme is a strong one because it can be used in so many varying ways.

Go into the event with an open mind, don't have any preconceived notions as to what you "expect"...just expect to have fun! Even on the years which I was disappointed in regards to the theme or the location, I still enjoyed myself. In the big scheme of things, it's all about having a good time and realizing that every year can't be a year that you are absolutely in love with.

*stands and applauds* Bravo!!! Couldn't have said it better myself. Every year is different and it's interesting to hear which years the fans seem to love (y'all seemed to love 15 and I was very lukewarm on it) and what falls flat for them (so much hate for poor Fear). But there's a lot to love every year! It's always a great time :D

  5. For me, it's La Llorona. Just the fact that it's an original concept and that it has the potential to have Orlando-quality sets really excites me.

As for the scarezone, it would have to be the Reapers. At first I thought it was a cheesy concept, but I think it will look cool just seeing those industrial reapers.

    ^^^ What Freak said :D

And I'd be more excited for the TT if I thought it was going to be significantly different than previous years but, right now, I doubt it.

  6. I have never once seen a bushman on that part of the trail. Guess I just always go when they are on break or something. Haha! That stretch always seemed empty to me and I always thought that maybe they lack of scares in that section was due to the incline and the possibility of guest injuruy. Here's to hoping the bushmen are back and not on break when I TT it up this year.

That's what I'm saying! It's very hit or miss. Sometimes, they're there. Sometimes, nothing. I wonder if it's just peak nights, or when they have extra SAs to place or something like that. Who knows.

  7. I love this concept. It sounds awesome and I really hope they pull it off. But it's really hard to pull off "total darkness" in a SZ. There's always lighting in the streets as well as bleed over light from nearby parts of the park (not to mention safety concerns). I have a hard time imagining them getting it dark enough for it to work as advertised. I hope they do because it sounds great. I just think it might lose something in the execution. What say you?

But they get total points for trying something new and unique.

  8. Well since everyone is doing it... and I concur that it is really hard to rank these this year. Almost everything sounds amazing!

    1. Winter's Night: The Haunting of Hawthorn Cemetery- love the concept, love the artwork so far, and I love the idea of wandering a desolate, lonely cemetery. It seems ripe for amazing mood, atmosphere, and environments. I can't wait to see what the ghosts look like (please look better than LT last year)!

    2. The Forsaken- Unique concept, great environment, awesome pics so far. Looks very awesome indeed.

    3. H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror- I am not a fan of the humor houses. They're never scary (which is, you know, the point of HHN). However, I love holidays so much and I think that this is such a fun premise, that I'm stoked.

    4. Nevermore: The Madness of Poe- I wish I was better versed in Poe, but this is looking goooooooood.

    5. Nightingales: Blood Prey- I was not a fan of War of the Dead so this initially did nothing for me. But the look of the banshees has gotten excited for something original and terrifying.

    6. The Thing- Sadly, I missed Assimilation in 07 :-( And I love the Carpenter film, so I'm excited to see it come to life (even though it is based on the prequel). Hoping they've improved it even more since the last time.

    7. The In Between- I have never liked 3D houses so I'm very skeptical. I'm hoping this isn't going to be another Disorientorium... with glasses. But it sounds like they're pursuing a more demonic feel which is promising.

    8. Saws N Steam: Into the Machine- I love the idea of turning a SZ into a house... but Saw N Steam? It was fine, I guess, but I never felt the need to see it return in any capacity. This should be fun enough but it doesn't really excite me.

Oh, and I'm not disappointed at all by the lack of casino :)

  9. I really like the idea of 7. Even if it ends up being more of a photo-op with actors on stage. I think it's a marvelous idea using the 7 deadly sins. The stages already look cool, and they are not even done yet. And I agree Gambit, it all depends on the scare actors. I remember Asylum in Wonderland, those actors rocked that zone.

Agreed. Not to mention (I may get some flack for this staement), not EVERY SZ has to be totally gory and terrifying. Wonderland wasn't exactly "scary" but it was visually awesome and had great atmosphere. Variety makes the event better and this sounds very unique. I look forward to it.

  10. Wow. Wow. Wow. This sounded promising but it looks like Uni is pulling out all the stops! Everything looks and sounds amazing for this house (and it's not even a SS). Roofs? Awesome! Amazing theming! Effects! Unique creatures/ghosts! Just looks so great!

So, last year, I enjoyed myself but was pretty underwhelmed by the sets/facades in the houses (excpet maybe Hallowed Past) especially after coming off of Dracula/Frankenstein/Wolfman in 09 (some of the most impressive sets ever, IMO). But this year, it looks like the quality of the sets is a huge leap forward. Cannot wait!!!

I just hope the drunks don't wreck it all before I get there on the 27th

  11. I must have missed this but where are the bushmen normally ive never seen them and i only missed last year...

On the isolated trail up the hill on the Terror Tram after the Bates Motel, before you get to the Psycho house. There's a long stretch of darkness where they have audio of growling and the bushmen have shown up from time to time. But I went multiple times and the bushmen weren't consistently there so it makes sense that you could miss them.

  12. I think Fallow is right. It all has to do with rights. Universal Studios parks are completely separate from the film studio portion of the company (very much like WDW vs. Walt Disney Pictures). They even have to license Universal properties, it's just much easier to do that. But licensing films from other studios gets very expensive fast, and isn't always worth it (Did anyone really mind that we got 'Run: Hostile Territory' instead of "Hostel"?). Also, as Fallow states, it makes things looser for intepretation and gives them more freedom to play with themes.

BTW- I always heard that Castle Vampyr was originally meant to be a Van Helsing house but, after the movie underperformed, they tweaked it and made it more generic. Can anyone confirm? Regardless, I'm glad it happened since that remains one of my favorite houses to this day.

  13. To be totally honest, when I originally heard about this house, I was not excited. Sounded like a rehash of War of the Living Dead to me. Then I saw the pics of the creatures and imagined walking through trenches and such. Now, color me hopefully intrigued :)

  14. Anyone find this to be an odd location for the icon scarezone? I mean, if the entire event revolvesa round Lady Luck, why would they stick her in one the smaller, more out of the way locations? It just seems like a lot of guests could miss her tucked away in Sting Alley.

  15. If you are contemplating going more than one night, even if it's just two...the FFP is the smartest and most economical way to go. Obviously as long as you can go on the night(s) that the pass is good for. You may find yourself being able to go more nights than you initially thought, so why not buy it just in case?! ;)

Word. I'm only going to be in town for a long weekend (god, I miss living in Orlando in Oct) but I just bought my FFP today. Still saves $$$, surprisingly enough.

Question for you all, do APs get a discount on Express? If not, does a passholder just buy the discounted admission ticket and Express separately? Sorry if this is a silly question but the site is a bit confusing on this.
