  1. I think this is a very clever and unique take on the classic Universal Monsters with the possibility of also being very, very scary. Plus, it's always nice to see them back in the park. Can't wait to see who makes an appearance ;-)

PS folks- Halloween 2 AND 3 were Universal films :-)

  2. Already looks like a new classic and everything the makes HHN Orlando so special: original content, fun storyline, amazing sets, unique creatures/monsters. Cannot wait! Count me in with everyone saying this is most anticipated :-)

  3. Hey, at least it will be a brand-new house with a facade that should be really good....unlike the other event with the hideous face-ade. LOL

Well, we'll see what "all new" means this year. Sometimes that means shuffling around some things and switching out a couple rooms. Sometimes it really does mean everything is new. But based on the clues and descriptions that have come from Murdy, it sounds like it'll be another nonsensical hodgepodge of random stuff just like the first.

And I was excited for the return of La llorona but now that AC is back, I don't want 2 returning themes. Hopefully they give us a nice surprise and something else new.

I'm down with TWD and SH.

  4. Hey there folks. I'm back (and justs pent the last few days catching up on this thread... whew!). Instead of throwing out my thoughts on everything, you can pretty just take anything that DTH316 said and imagine me saying "word" below his every post. I'm amazed at how much we agree on :-)

Anyway- exciting news about a more involved HOH overlay! That's great. I would say we should temper our expectations a bit. I'm sure the path and layout will remain the same as well as much of the props and scenery. I think we'll see a lot added here and there but very little taken away. Remember that they have to switch it right back in its old form come November.

As for the return of Alice Cooper? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........

  5. So I have finally caught up on this thread! Whew!!! You people are monsters! :freddy::hanibal::mmyers:

Anyway, a thought I had while reading all the speculation (and it was quickly mentioned by someone else earlier and ignored) is what if this is a TV-themed year? Here's why I've been lead to that conclusion:

    • The Walking Dead - this seems to be a foregone conclusion and it would obviously fit into TV.
    • True Blood - was on the survey and also has been speculated
    • Universal is in the midst of remaking The Munsters ("Mockingbird Lane") - could be this year's comedy house while providing some corporate synergy ala last year's The Thing.
    • The clues we got from one of the SS houses: the vortex and "wrong side of the bed" immediately made me think of Poltergeist (when the brother is attacked by the clown and pulled under the bed). Plus, it's 30 years old this year. And how does Carol Anne communicate with the poltergeists? Through the TV.
    • The popularity of HR Bloodengutz last year did not go unnoticed by A&D. He was TV host.
    • The word "WATCH" scrawled across the teaser image. Self explanatory.

I could be totally off base here and it doesn't explain some of the other speculation (Hunchback, 19th Century, Silent Hill) but I do think there might be something there.

    Thoughts?

  6. huh. i quite enjoyed PUTS. i actually loved it. mind you i was 10 at the time, so i was a little more nervous than i am presently. i also dropped my helmet at one point and that freaked me out cuz i didn't know what was gonna happen :P. i will give you that it was definitely one of the most cheapest houses thrown together at the last minute, though. RoF and Spawning are still the kings of crap :D

Well my comment was completely having to do with the theming... or total lack of it. The entire house was 2x4s and plastic sheets. It was like they were out of money and time and said "crap... what do we do for the last house? Let's say it's "Under Construction" so we only have to build the skeleton of it." No doubt there were a couple scares in there but the effort in the design was far below what we have come to expect from HHN.

  7. Bottom 5 Houses:

    5. Vampyr: Bloodbath (2007) -- Did ANYONE like this house?

    4. Jack's Funhouse in Clown-o-Vision (2007) -- Fart noises and actors that were standing in plain sight, wrongly believing themselves to be camouflaged.

    3. Reflections of Fear (2008) -- The biggest let down in HHN history. Bad everything.

    2. People Under the Stairs: Under Construction (2006) -- Was there ANYTHING in here besides errant pieces of wood?

    1. Dungeon of Terror: Retold (2006) -- Let's never speak of this awful, awful house again.

    ^^^ Agreed! Like, like, like!!!

People Under the Stairs: Under Construction was one of the cheapest, thrown together, half-assed houses I've ever seen at HHN. Truly embarrassing.

  8. The detailed backstories, as much as I appreciate them, aren't for me. I think it's cool they even think of this though and it's way more effort than most haunts put into their mazes. I think tying everything together is a bit too much as well, but that's just me personally. Sometimes it's understandable that, "yeah, this is a Haunt and we're going to put a maze here because we can." If I had to even sort of know all this stuff to enjoy the maze, I'd be shit out of luck! A part of me enjoys the obsessive-must-know-all idea but another half of me just thinks, "can't I just walk in and not have to wonder what else there is to know?" More than likely, after exiting, I'd feel beyond curious and try to read up on it. How dare they!

If I could chime in on this for a second, the crazy detailed backstories are there for the hardcore fans but (99% of the time) are not necessary to enjoy the houses. For example, last year they had The Forsaken which had a detailed backstory about the 4th ship on Columbus' voyage and decisions of the captain and so on. But if you walked in just knowing "this is the house with ghost sailors" it made just as much sense. There have been exceptions (Reflections of Fear comes to mind) but for the most part, the backstories are just a nice bonus for the fans who can't get enough but A&D does a great job of presenting a concise description in the map that is all you really need to know to undertsand and enjoy the experience. :)

  9. A field of screams house would be awesome, I can honestly say that was one of my favorite scarezones...and to take u on a tram and drop you off and say walk back haha thatd be awesome

Hmmmm, a hayride, where you get attacked a few times on the way. Then dropped off in a cornfield (ala Field of Screams) and have to make your way back through a house/Scarezone hybrid? I like this idea...

  10. I've always thought that as well. I've watched the terror tram on youtube from HHN hollywood last year and it looked awesome. Hopefully HHN orlando adds this sooner or later... :)

It is awesome... if you like the same exact thing every single year ;-)

It was great the first time, now it's as stale as can be. The novelty of walking on the backlot has long since worn off.

However, a haunted hayride in Orlando could be quite promising. The question is... where?

  11. But Freddy's awesome :/ did they keep re-doing the house or something?

Three Freddy houses, three years in a row. The first two were more or less the same (there were some updates but I can't remember the difference) and the third was based on the reboot (good house, crap movie). I like the character but still, that much Freddy in such a short amount of time was too much IMO. Just seemed like a cheap way to reuse props and save $$$ and use Hollywood's favorite excuse: "Back by popular demand!".

Sorry for the detour. Back to Orlando... I'm up for two parks again if they can fill the dead space. I though the scrarezones connecting the parks in 04 (Field of Screams, Fright Yard) were very immersive and really added to the experience.

  12. Did you call me a he/she???? Lol!

I'm talking about the giant XX and Fear walking around with its minions and stuff.... that was cool and on a grand scale... XXI had Lady Luck in the alley but didn't touch XX's.

Haha. Sorry. From your username, I didn't know if you were male of female. Guess I should have looked closer. No offense intended :)

And yes, I believe the three-year arc was more of a Roddy thing that no longer applies.

  13. Was there a kick-off show for Fear in HHN XX? I don't remember ever hearing/seeing one...

I'm thinking that he/she is referring to the Fear Revealed SZ. I don't think we've had a proper arrival show since 2007 Carnival of Carnage.

But even Fear Revealed was a better showcase for the icon than Lady Luck's SZ this year.

  14. That makes me wonder about the new Lagoon show as well. Will that be a summer/peak days (and by Summer/Peak days, I mean Summer/New Year's) show or will it be year-round? Perhaps select nights year round? Like weekends only during the off season or something? Have they said anything about that, because that could affect it as well. Perhaps they could move HHN over to IOA exclusively (except soundstage houses), and then keep USF open late to try to draw day guests over there to see the show after spending all day at Harry Potter Land.

    Just a thought.

I believe they said the lagoon show would run during the summer and peak seasons, much like the old CineSpheres. But, agian, I would love to see the new show elements used for HHN.

  15. Personally I'd love to see them use the new technology/set-up for the lagoon show (Cinematic Spectacular or something?) to do a HHN themed show, sort of like what they did for Sweet 16 (but hopefully much improved). If nothing else, it would be great if they kept horror clips playing all night. It would go a long way in enhancing the mood while walking around the park.
