  1. Sorry, Chip, I got nothing for the manual focus. I only use that during the day because I have the problem with not being able to tell if something is comletely in focus, and I get a lot of just barely out of focus shots. Good luck! You have some good shots there!

I didn't really take any time out for pictures last night. I only got one of the atmosphere, and the rest are from Rocky Horror! (: At the beginning of Bill & Ted, the preshow announcement says no flash photograhy or videotaping. Since it says "no FLASH photography," I figured I would be fine if I turned the flash off. Nope. Some angry attendent threatened to kick me out of the show if I didn't put my camera away. I was not happy about that. They need to change their preshow to say NO PHOTOGRAPHY.

Anyway, here's what I did take.

  2. Some of you know this already, but I'm excited so:

    I got a job today!!!!

    Yea!

I start work on Tuesday. I'll be back in Orlando for good as of Monday night. Pulled it off just in time for HHN! Whew! I'll be working as a network engineer/manager in the I-Drive/Universal area of Orlando!

  3. I voted no.

It's ultimately the decision of the site owner, of course, but if I owned the site, I would not allow it since the pictures are obtained illegally. I wish Universal would take better measures to protect their stuff. Knowing our society, some idiot will sneak in a house under construction, get hurt, and sue for injuries. Plus, I have absolutely no interest in seeing construction, blueprint, prop pictures ahead of time. Last year, someone sent me a bunch of stuff, and it seriously took away from opening weekend. I don't like spoiler information.

  4. I first started going to HHN in 2002, back when the event made its debut at IoA. I think that IoA made a perfect environment for the event because the small area and limited walkways made it feel as though the only safe zones were restrooms and Seuss. Obviously, it's a much smaller area to cover when compared to the Studios, so fewer scareactors have a great impact.

I wasn't a fan of the split park format in 2004 because a lot of the walkways were empty and the event loss its immersive feel, which had been part of its original appeal. I think I appreciated 2005, the effect and detail that went into creating a complete experience, after being so disappointed in 2004.

I was excited for a return to a Studios because I always heard from "old-timers" that the Studios was a better place for scarezones - more and better places to hide. 2006 was the second biggest disappointment in my time going to HHN (behind 2004) because I really didn't feel as though I was someplace else; I merely felt like I was walking around the Studios at night. There was so much empty and unthemed space. Same for 2007.

I think the event started to get back on track last year. There were finally a proper number of scarezones to make the event feel like I think it should. Moving forward, I think they'll need to add more actors and more zones to accommodate more guests. I hope that Universal doesn't go in the direction of providing photo-op and guest interaction scarezones and keeps things more in the traditional scary sense. I was not a big fan of Asylum in Wonderland and Fractured Tales last year.

I don't know if I would have eventually gotten tired of IoA. Probably. And in 2006, I thought that perhaps HHN's popularity had ruined its appeal to a certain degree. But after last year, I think Universal can find a good way to deal with the growing crowds.

  5. Anyway, in my planning last night for a rental car, I came across a great deal on a mid size car for $389.51 for 2 weeks using Priceline. I have never used Priceline and their "name your price" system. They did not say what kind of car other than mid size or the company or if it was at the airport of not. It did say that it would be from a major company like National, Alamo, Thrifty ect.

Any one ever use Priceline? Is it legit? I would hate to get into a bind with a bad situation on vacation just trying to save money. Anyone help me here?

I use Priceline all the time. They have great deals on rental cars. Every time I have used Priceline to travel to Orlando (5 times at least), my car was rented through National or Alamo. They are owned by the same company and are located right next to each other in the airport terminal. Their rental process is quick and painless. Even though they won't tell you the name ahead of time, I'd bet that's who you'll get.

Using Priceline does have a couple of negatives. They will not let you change or cancel your reservation for any reason. They are very, very strict about this and won't even let you add days to your hotel or rental car. And, if you use them for plane tickets, most airlines will NOT give you miles on a ticket booked through Priceline.

  6. I still haven't seen the Saw movies, but I want to.

Michele if you come down on Tuesday, you should let me borrow your Saw movies. XD

I'm not coming on Tuesday, but I will probably get an interview in the next couple of weeks. If I only have time to drop them at your house, I'll make sure you get them. (:

I just went to lunch with Parker. When I got back, the dog came running up to us with a dental floss box-thingie dragging by her side. When I looked closer, I realized it was attached to her by a long string of dental floss that was coming from her mouth. I pulled the dental floss out of her mouth with a lot of coughing and gagging on her part. She had about four feet of dental floss that I had to pull out. Geesh. She has a new home that she is going to on Wednesday or Thursday. It's just too much to deal with right now.

  7. Wal-Mart has "House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects" on blu-ray for only $10 each. I think most, if not all, Wal-Marts must be running the deal because I've seen the movies at the Wal-Marts here in Indiana and at the one in St. Cloud.

  8. Hey at least ur racking up all those Frequent flyer miles :)

LOL. Actually, I don't have as many as you might think. Most (maybe all?) airlines don't give miles if you book through a third party site. I normally use Priceline to book my trips since it saves a ton of money. I have 6,300 miles on NWA and two segments on AirTran.

I might be going back to Orlando next Tuesday. I applied for a network engineer position yesterday, did a phone interview for it today, and they asked me to come in for an interview next week but the company is paying HALF what I was making at my last job. I'm sincerely not greedy, but I have no friends or family in Orlando that can babysit for me, so I HAVE to make enough to cover daycare for Parker (my two year old son!). So, I told the company thanks but no thanks for the interview because of salary, and now they are asking me what my salary requirements are and working with me. I am not certain if it will work out for an interview or not. It's kind of funny to be discussing salary before I've even been on an interview, but I don't want to waste their time or my time AND MONEY.

    Bleh.

Sorry to hear about your frustration with getting a job. You have to think someone with your training and experience will get something soon. I have noticed your posts over the last few months, and like Lyn always says "It will work out, everything happens for a reason" You have to believe that.

I know I went through a hard time a while back, and that thinking helped me. I know a frame of mind doesn't pay the bills, but trying to remain positive in the face of tough times won't hurt either :)

Keep your chin up, you'll see (Lyn, help me out, I'm quoting you here :P )

    Mike

Thanks! I just got back to Indiana and checked my email... I got a response to another job that i applied for today! I know it's going to happen soon; I'm just getting a little antsy.

  10. I want vodka, lots and lots of vodka. Sadly, no vodka for me till I move back to Florida.

I am currently at Orlando Airport waiting to head back to Indianapolis at 6:40. I came here for a job interview. It was a completely odd "non-interview." I mean, the guy asked me like ten questions tops. I had to ask him questions to figure out which technologies they are using there. I don't know what to think - was the guy not interested? Did he not have any experience interviewing people? He was young, so I tried flirting with him (subtly). Like, "Oh wow! You have a CCNA? That's a tough cert to get!" (It is, but still...) Haha. Anyway, it's been a long, weird day, and it's not over yet.

  11. I see your point and i agree. Now if my memory serves me correctly, you walked around with a SLR Last year with Mark and Jenn, so do you mean take pictures with Scareactors, or take pictures of them in action, cause of the 800 pictures i took last year maybe 12 were with a scareactor and a Patron :)

I like pictures of the scareactors in action, and I was upset in 2007 when people were told not to take pictures in the scarezones at all. I'm talking about taking pictures with the actor posing with guests. Like this one of me and an actor from the passholder event last year -

    ft.jpg

I am not completely against taking pictures with actors, obviously. I just felt like on some of the busier nights last year, some of the scarezones had limited scares because the actors were all busy taking pictures with guests. If I have to pick, I pick scares over photo-ops, if that makes sense.

  12. I voted no.

I would prefer that Universal invest their resources in actors that are hired to scare not to pose. Prior to last year, I would see actors take pictures with guests that they knew from time to time, and I think that's to be expected and fine. However, when I see a scareactor spend the majority of his/her time taking pictures, and there is a line like at a Disney character meet spot, I think a line has been crossed. I think last year crossed that line with AiW especially and Fractured Tales to a lesser degree.

  13. I also thought they were actually killing people in the front of the park, so I was so scared to go watch the sacrifices cause I didn't want them to pick me.. my dad never said it was fake. He never said it was real, but he never said it was fake either.

    LOL. Your dad is so mean! (;

2002 was my first year. I went with a boyfriend, and I was going to leave because I was so scared. He convinced me to ride the Hulk before we left. I got brave enough to stay, and I'm glad I did. I still get scared, but I think I've toughened up a bit from going so much. I went once in 2002 and 2003, five times in 2004, 15+ time in 2005, 2006, and 2008, and three times in 2007.

  14. Nice! Are you getting the camera before HHN? I would recommend the 35 mm 1.8. It's easier to get closer than further away!

My camera fund is completely neglected. I might have a new camera....in 40 years. Ha.

  15. If they did do a show I doubt it would be on the temporary stage, I am sure they would use the new permanent stage in the former boneyard. Although I doubt they would do it due to crowd control, I hope they do the interactive rooms that they did at the Saw house in California last year. That was one thing that definitely made that house stand out among all the other houses in the US.

Oh good point! I forgot about the new stage. I haven't been to the park since it's been put up. That's my blonde moment for the day.

  16. I could see Jigsaw being the icon and having a show by Horror Makeup. Each house doesn't necessarily have to be SAW themed; they could be our tests. Then each scarezone could correlate to the theme of the test. I certainly wouldn't want every house to have a RUN type of feel to it, which is probably the most similar to the SAW theme we've had for a house.

  17. Hi Jewels!

So, I managed to get a nasty cold in California, and I was sick from when I got back on Saturday until yesterday. Then Parker got sick, but he was only sick for one day, so that wasn't bad. I'm glad to have things "back to normal."

I'm beginning to think I'll never find a job. I'm dying to get home. I miss my friends so much!

  18. Thanks. :)

I love Fred Segal, and I wanted to stop and look, but I was in one of the open air bus tours so I didn't actually get to shop anywhere. That might be a good thing since I'm unemployed, though.

It seems like more and more people are going with Nikons. I think you'll like D90. My aunt has that one, and she think it does well. I decided to open back up my ebay store just long enough to save up the money to buy the D3. I hate ebay with a passion, but I'll deal with it to get the camera. I'm just hoping I get enough by the start of HHN. Then I'll probably have to keep it open to buy the lens. LOL! I also plan to buy my camera on ebay with one of the 25% off coupons that I get. If you have any ebay account that is fairly active, you might keep an eye out. If you buy from someone with a great feedback record, you can get an awesome deal.

  19. I got back from LA/Anaheim on Saturday. I have the quick and dirty processing done on most of my pictures so far -

I'm going to really work with the RAW images and try to get the shots as nice as I can. I rented a very nice lens for my trip. It gave me a lot of great shots and weighs probably two pounds more than my normal lens.

Here's my photobucket with all the pictures I have so far with just very minimal editing -

All of the pictures are in subalbums, and there are A LOT.
