  1. I don't know! It's quite weird.

    So, I had a phone interview today with a company in Altamonte Springs. It was a very basic screening, the kind where they ask strengths, weaknesses, etc. The one thing that I did like is that the HR rep asked me for a minimum salary, so if I get selected for an interview, I know they'll be willing to pay what I need. I get so frustrated at companies that won't discuss salary until an offer is made. I understand it's considered proper business etiquette, but I don't understand why they don't understand what a waste of time and resources it can be to interview people who are expecting and require a larger salary than they are willing to pay.

    Whew.

    I'm trying to study and refresh my VMware and Cisco skills so I'm hopefully able to wow the company I interview with next week. I'm the last interview, which I really like!

  2. I love the zombie signs! Awesome!

    I so wish Mark and Jenn could come with me to LA. That would be fun! I am planning to buy a new digital camera (Nikon!) if I find a job in time, but in the meantime, I'm planning to rent a nice lens for my camera for the bargain price of $30. I found a local place that rents them, and one of the few benefits of living in the middle of a cornfield is that prices are CHEAP. I'm still considering going to Knott's.

    I got an quite unexpected call today for a job interview in Kissimmee next Tuesday. I booked my trip this evening and was completely surprised to learn that car rentals in Orlando for one day are going for $75 to $90 in terminal! I used Priceline and got a car for $22 though. I love the name your own price feature! (: But, when I rented a car in Orlando in the past, it was more like $30 - $40 a day. I have no idea why prices are so jacked up. I would have loved to stay and visit in Orlando, but since I'm going to LA a few days later, I'm just doing a day trip.

  3. I'm going to Los Angeles in a week in a half. I'm so excited! I was debating whether I should just wait and go in October like I've been wanting to for a long time now, but since I don't know what the job situation will bring, I figured I better go now. I'm going to Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure, and Universal Studios Hollywood. I also have a day of sight seeing planned. I have six days there and am considering going to Knott's Berry Farm as well but am not certain. Has anyone been there? Anything else I should check out?

    I'll definitely have a huge trip report when I get back!

  4. I wasn't really a part of LT. I think it could have been better if everyone, the whole group, didn't just run behind one or two people. I felt like I was just in a herd of people instead of figuring things out. I usually started off with the group and got bored and went to RHPS after 10 or 15 minutes. I also didn't think it was fair that anyone could get in to the final party. I mean, I thought it should have been a reward for the people who dedicated a good portion of their HHN time to figuring out the LT clues.

    And instead of soda, they should have had vodka and Rock Star. (;

  5. Thanks for the well wishes. I didn't get any updates on the job that I interviewed for last week. Hopefully tomorrow. I did have a phone interview on Friday, but that company had the largest farm of Microsoft servers in the WORLD, so they were a little out of my league. I have worked in small to smaller-large sized business. The largest number of email users I've supported at one location is 2,500, for instance, and they have over half a million!

    I'm hoping for good news this week. I would really love to be back in Orlando before Mardi Gras starts. And I really miss my friends!

  6. As soon I have the money, I'm going to buy a new camera. I'm undecided as to which one I'll get so far. The biggest factor to me is noise reduction at higher ISOs because most of the shots I take are in low light, and I try to avoid using a flash. The Nikon D3 is the top camera for what I'm looking for, but with accessories and such, that would be around $6000! I'm still trying to find a middle ground.

    Thoughts?

  7. Thank you!

    I just started using a DSLR during HHN last year, but since I haven't had a job since, oh, September, I've had plenty of time to practice. Practice definitely helps. I got Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 2 for Christmas, and they have really helped the pictures look better after processing. I'm still getting all my network set up, but I'll share some more pictures later.

  8. Some of my favorite pictures I've taken.

    I had just started out with a DSLR around the time HHN started this year, so I sadly wasn't the best then. But I'm looking forward to next year. I got most of my good shots in RHPS, probably because I practiced most there. :)
