  1. I haven't taken off more than one night in a row, so I don't know the best way to do the multiple nights off thing...

Only thing I can think of is to be ABU. You are not guaranteed a role each night and if you don't fill a role at all on certain nights, you can be a guest. And of course after you get your five nights, you are pretty much free to either work or be a guest the rest of the event.

  2. People that post drivel like this on non-HHN related forums

I have to be honest, I don't get all the excitement for this, it was the most disappointing part of my trip last year and the idea of it being scary is laughable. I've gone to at least 4 different haunted houses each year for the last 6 years in Pennsylvania and I've seen all levels from local fire houses to ones that are featured on TV shows like America’s scariest attractions. Frankly short of some local "junk" holes, Universal was the weakest I've ever seen. You're never scared in the houses because you see the scares 5 people ahead of you, and that’s if they even bother trying half the time we walked through house with only a couple of people even interacting with us. The idea of the houses being themed is great but the themes were not caring through at all in many of the houses. They never seemed to use the bait and switch method where your attention is on one thing but the scare is beside or behind you. The animatronics level is no where it should be considering the amount they charge for this event. Anyone who’s been to Bate’s Motel can tell what they should be.

I liked the scare zones, but some of the people they had working them were god awful, one girl tried to scare us by following behind us, after rolling my eyes at my friend I felt bad for the girl and gave her a little jump so that she wouldn’t feel bad that her efforts were wasted, well she preceded to yell to the other works about how she scared us and sound like an excited kind kindergartener, yes very scary. :brick:

Truthfully neither me nor my friend had a single moment that made us jump. They were very disorganized, we spent much of the night on one line that claimed a 40 min wait, but turned out to be 2 hrs. I’ve never wait that long for anything let alone for a 3 min. walk through a house where, yes this is the honest truth one single person tried to scare us.

I liked getting to ride Jaws at night in the dark and the fire effects were going full, so that was cool. The Bill and Ted show was really good and I do wish they would do it other times because I don’t think I’d be likely to waste money on this event again.

  3. Back in 07 I auditioned as a 17 year old. In fact, I didn't turn 18 until my first night of rehearsal.

In that case, Luke should go for it. Things might have changed since then but how do you know if you don't go. Better to go and be told you are too young then not try at all.

  4. Well then here's hoping for a chance still, even if it's not a main part. cool.gif

Exactly. If you go into the audition not thinking you will get a role, whether it is in a house, scare zone, active backup or firecrew they will notice. Just clear your mind so you can think if they ask you a question you have to think a little before you answer and be yourself. That is what they are looking for.

  5. As a guest: My first house being Psycho - Through The Mind of Norman Bates having been a huge Psycho/Hitchcock fan since a very young age. Basically, I remember most of the scares I got as a guest and am thankful for every one! It's what made me want to be a scareactor.

As a scareactor: Scaring a guy really good after he called all his friends pansies for being scared and a random guest telling me I was his first scare last year after I scared him in Catacombs, both as a Plague Doctor. Scaring a guy pushing a woman in a wheelchair so bad he jumped back into the wall and ended up pushing the poor woman in the wheelchair into the wall in LT. Being a Pig Faced Minion in the Saw house as well as being a "ninja" in Esqueleto Muerte.

Being Active Backup lets you meet a bunch of people during the event and every one of them accepts you into the house or scare zone family for the night or nights and it just makes you want to make them proud to have you a part of it all. Not to mention fans of HHN just like me. So to those on here that I might have worked with or even scared or spoken with for a second or two the last two years thank you for helping make even more memories. And here's to many, many more!!!

  6. I'd love to see Frightanic make a return. Never got to do the original(s) and I have a (healthy) obsession with the ship it was based off of (Titanic, obviously). Other than that, I don't want to see any house make a return for at least 2 more years. Go with some more original houses. Obviously some will be a hit like Catacombs and Havoc were last year and others not so much. Build off of the new originals that fans/guests really like(d) from the next two years (three if you count the originals from last year) that can replace the Psychoscareapy, Body Collectors, Scary Tales, etc. franchises.

  7. That is true, though I'm pretty sure I fit the average "average" body type so it may not be that lucky. laugh.gif

That's what Active Backup and Firecrew are for. If someone of your height and build is absent, someone from Active Backup/Firecrew fitting the (somewhat) same height and build will fill in. They may fill up most of the houses and scarezones but they need ABU and Firecrew to fill as much roles as possible for the night. Heck some roles can be filled in by the opposite sex like the Spirit Seeker outside the facade of Legendary Truth (if I remember correctly the name of that character used a name both Males and Females can have, can't remember it off the top of my head).

  8. Just a random question: about how early should we arrive to HR? Is it possible I am going to have to park at the Hollywood lot? Thankfully, I live 5 minutes away from employee parking.

In the e-mail/confirmation I got it said to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment but it also said to be ready to wait longer than that just in case.

  9. are you even allowed to audition if you've never worked for Universal? since this year the audition process is different what are they gonna make you do?

No, you do not have to work for Universal to audition for the General Public auditions. And no one knows what they will make you do until you are auditioning.

  10. You do realize that the audition today was for returning/current UO employees...right?

You have to be a current cast member who works in the park regularly or a scareactor who worked the event last year.

I was a Active Backup the last two years... :D

  11. I thought up another interesting question.

How has becoming a scareactor affected the event for you? I enjoy this event a lot, and don't want to enjoy it any less than I do now by becoming a scareactor. It makes me wonder how differently I'll perceive everything, if I am able to get a role.

No real change, for me at least. Having been a guest to (unfortunately just) three HHNs (99, 07, 08) before auditioning for 09 and last year (ABU both years), there was already an appreciation and respect for the event and scareactors. After being on the other side (scareactor) in 09, the appreciation and respect just grew not only for the event and scareactors but for the makeup artists, the people in charge of the costumes, and everyone else behind the scenes. For me the scares only got better. Only thing that really changed was seeing many, many, many, many, many more guests acting stupid and being A-holes than as a guest, and I saw a lot of that as a guest.

  12. Just some info that may be interesting. On the main Universal Audition page, the banner says, "Halloween Horror Nights, Now Auditioning."

However, when you click on the audition schedule, nothing appears. I take this to mean that it should show up any day now. Perhaps, someone else can take a look jsut in case my internet page is not working. The banner was not there the other day so I know someone has been updating the site.

Nothing was there as of this morning.

  13. If I remember correctly, 2007 only used them to display static images or repeating clips. 2006 was the only time they actually used the balls for a show.

I remember seeing some horror movie clips while waiting in line for Vampyr: Blood Bath. Either way they did use them in 07 for whatever reason and they haven't used them since.

  14. How could they customize a house to what scares each individual person coming through the house? Good idea but no way it could ever be done. You would have to fill out some kind of survey before the event. Then they would have to switch sets and scaractors when each person comes through. It would logistically not be possible.

    Exactly. This is wishful thinking.

  15. It's a shame that King won't let them use his books....I think an IT house would be terrifiying. (Idk about you all, but Pennywise is DEFINITELY the stuff nightmares are made of >.<)

I could see an IT house kinda like Howl O Scream's Alone except it is customized to what scares you. That is what IT did, right? Man I have to read that book again. Movie was okay. Tim Curry as IT was the only real thing going for it (no pun intended).
