  1. I heard about the eye issue before opening night so I was anticipating it not being too scary... I think the whole thing is overblown. For the most part you guys hide very effectively and use the eyes to your advantage; I got plenty of scares, sometimes even when I saw the eyes before the actor lunged. While it'd be nice if they were switch-activated, it's not that big of a deal.

Great work to both casts in this house.

EDIT: Oh, and I don't think the length is so bad either. The first room is more establishing than scaring, but overall the length is decent.

  2. so much to say, but I just can't.

Look, I know you're a house lead and there might be factors I'm not fully aware of - but I still find it detracting from the houses. I highly dislike the "sprint through the houses" stressful mentality that the ops are required to push. That's my opinion. It IS better this year (so far) but it's still a problem in some cases; I apologize if that upsets you, but unfortunately the opinion stands.

  3. I stand by my opinion that the ops diminish the impact of houses, sorry. I recognize that the ops are following a system - I'm saying it's a broken system.

Luckily, this year Universal seems to have listened to some of last year's louder complaints and found better spots for the ops in many houses (yay Winter's Night, Poe, Nightingales, In Between, Forsaken, Saws'n'Steam!) Unfortunately on a handful of occasions the ops did become intrusive. In each case, the person in front of me was literally a pace away (if I walked any faster I'd run into them) or I was completely alone in the house with no one in front of or behind me visibly. I don't mind a little hand motion to indicate what direction I'm supposed to be going (which is actually helpful in a couple of the more labyrinth-like houses this year) but some actually left their little holes, walked straight through a scene and in front of scare actor booholes (making it impossible for them to scare me or anyone else), and then told me to hurry up and flashed their light in my face. Saw a couple keeping the lights eternally on and waving them around, which in my eyes is a no no unless someone's really lost.

Overall, though, the ops were better (so far) this year. They're a necessary evil and I do my best to ignore them. Thank you, A&D/Universal, for building them spots to chill for the most part unseen unless there's an issue.

  4. Have I got some shout outs to give! You all were great. All from 9/23

Forsaken - 11ish trip was stellar. Forsaken who blocked the door then gave us a thumbs up and a little dance rocked. Bungee jump and final forsaken got us on both our trips. Cathedral forsaken and slanted room guys were all terrifying.

In between - entire cast during the downpour and at 1130. You guys make the house with your freakish movements and great use of your costuming. Guys in the zigzag hallway and the green guys in the dorm at the end were wonderful, and the guys with the wings. Love the ops guy at the very end who got into the act and playfully beckoned us to get out quick, followed by a double team from the actors.

Poe - you guys are our #1. All Poes, the ravens (hallway and end), masque of red death and the dancers, just... Incredible. Everyone in here was on target. Congratulations, keep scaring us for #1 status. (during downpour and at 1150)

Saws - the pair with the steamers halfway who double teamed and blocked the door, the fake saw, and surprise real chainsaw - great scares.

Bloodngutz - Lincoln (gatoralex, I believe?) and Washington, the native American and the pilgrim, and the leprechauns. All nailed us - keep up the great work.

Nightingales - most of the house is on target. Was overjoyed to see the return of show scenes. The soldiers and nightingales in those spots were awesome, as was the bungee. Loving this house.

Thing - not the best run, but I did get destroyed by some of the female THINGs as well as the "torn apart" male thing. Can't wait to try this again!

Winter's Night - the miniature scare. Oh my god, probably the best scare ive ever received at hhn. To that actress, well done. All of the spirits were doing work, you're all very

creepy. The coffin scene spirit nailed us!

7 - EVERYONE. I'm not exaggerating. Every, single,

goddamn, scare actor went after us and got us. Around 715 we were the couple with the visor sunglasses. Went

through again at 1115 and got an even better run. Ladies, you're all lovely, men, you are terrifying. Props to you all, I

bashed this zone and it's now my #1.

Grown Evil - nightmare shirt and the visor around 715... The ground raven nailed me. Everyone uses their wings

beautifully and creepily... The owls and bats are very intimidating. Love this zone.

Acid Assault - lady in the shopping cart and a melting face

nailed us. Girl standing in the acid rain was creepy as hell!

    Nightmaze - none yet :(

Luck - pretty luck's were indeed pretty. Demon lucks were trying... One demon got us, but man, your masks do suck.

Minions at front of park - one of you followed us towards Hollywood around 715 and snarled in our faces... Freaked out my gf who's never been. Thanks :)

Canyon - didn't hit your zone, but after midnight as you guys were exiting one left the procession and charged at us and snarled. Fantastic unexpected final scare... Was in a nightmare shirt. Thanks! Will be seeing your zone tonight!

  5. I had a wonderful time last night - very happy to briefly meet Voorhees, Grime, and a couple others - saw mz in the Studio Store at closing, but you guys were leaving so didn't want to hold you up. Event is a big improvement from last year but not a knock out of the park - review to come in a few days!

  6. There is a general release pin. There was a picture of it in the Employee Preview event guide. The style of the pin is very similar to the Rockabilly style of the shot glasses. I've yet to hear if there will be a guest artist pin this year though.

Thanks for the info, though I'm not sure I like that it's that art style - works for the shooters/shots I think, but not a pin. I'll have to see it in person though. Here's hoping there's a guest pin like last year, I really dug the FEAR pin...

  7. Best of Luck Fallow. EP is tomorrow night and I'm sure people will scoop them up. Though might have a few stash away in smaller shops or maybe they will pop up on the merchandise site.

    I was afraid of that.......

........anyone want to buy me a hoodie and we meet up to exchange sometime during opening weekend?

    100% serious on this, btw...

  8. I agree with Jake - everyone shrieked that they'd buy a hoodie even if it's generic. Well here it is. I was one of those people - and the price is right. I'll be buying it. Could it have been better? Maybe - hard to say. There's a very thin line between tasteful and gaudy/tacky when it comes to hoodies I think (though I'm no expert on fashion). I'll show my support this year. If next year's hoodie is as generic? Well, maybe not then. But I wanted a HHN hoodie - they finally gave us one. I'm showing my support & gratitude.

I just hope they still have hoodies available by this weekend... they mentioned it wasn't a huge supply.

  9. Wow, those clips from Dr. Who are really impressive (I should watch that show more). These Weeping Angels really seem like they could be the new Body Collectors in that they're supernatural creatures based on an awesome TV series. I hope they take inspiration from the actual creature's behavior in the show (i.e., have them remain completely still until the "blue light" extinguishes, then they move forward and get in guests faces for when the light goes back on). Huge potential here!

  10. Not to prolong the "roof" debate (I think at this point it's beating a dead horse, some are bothered by it some can go either way) I will say that the ops are without a doubt the biggest potential detractor of a house. Good god, can they please get some actual training? It absolutely ruins the experience for them to wave around their flashlights and shriek to keep moving. It's awful. I know where to go. Only step in and assist guests when they appear lost (read: NOT MOVING SLOWLY, LOST) or are causing some sort of trouble.

In Catacombs for the final night last year, weren't all the ops wearing creepy hoods? I wish they could try that for all the ops this year. Would help at least a little.

  11. If your so focused on the roofs then your missing the main points. So many people put so much hard work into this event, including the SA's. I know i lost about 10lbs last year from the work i put into the event trying to scare. Our creative directors spend thier whole year thinking up these crazy, insane, fun houses for us and all we can think about is the roofs? its sad that so much hard work is being put into the event and the roofs is the discussion. I can tell you from an SA perspective that the Creative Directors and other teams are proud of the work they put in in costuming and set design, and they work so hard to make sure everything is perfect for US, the fans. Its sad that they cant see and just appreciate the hard work in front of them rather than petty things like roofs.

Thats all im gonna say on the matter because #1, this is the wrong thread for this, its taking away from the anticipation of The Forsaken and #2, im going to enjoy the hard work that has been put in. I mean no offense from this post and sorry if i pulled someones chain, its just what came into my mind.

Dude, you shouldn't take this so personally. I know the roofs aren't the main point. I never said anywhere in my post that I don't appreciate or respect or enjoy (which I do all 3) the hard work the designers and actors put into the houses and streets. This is a discussion board, and the roofs became a point of interest when they disappeared last year. We were under the impression based on the press image released that roofs would return, at least in Forsaken - which has proven to be untrue. As such, I (and evidently a few others) are disappointed. I'm simply expressing that disappointment. Will it ruin the house or the scares? Of course not, that'd be stupid. Is it still a detractor? In certain spots, yes, I feel it kills the immersion to look up and see the warehouse. I'm still going to probably love this house - I'm just expressing a concern/disappointment over the roofs. Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah cool kids. Chill with the roofs. Just don't look up. Easy fix.

Anyways. For those who experienced this house last night: Were there actors? Effects on? Lights on? How dope was the facade?

The condescension isn't warranted or appreciated. No need to act holier than thou because you seem to feel you're "above" expressing your disappointment in something.

    I've got an idea...don't look up... ;)

Seriously, in all the years I've been going to this event, I never considered not having a roof or anything else above me a downer. I'm too busy looking around at the house itself, the Stygian Witches were just that a reason for you to look up...if there is no reason, then it's not that big of deal. At least not in my book.

For this house it's suppose to feel like you are in a fort in the midst of an epic battle...personally for me, having a roof would make it seem a bit claustrophobic. And if you've been in any fort like the Castillo de San Marcos or Fort Zachary Taylor in Key West, the only areas that have low hanging roofs are typically storage and containment rooms...the remainder of the place is wide open and vast. If the ship has crashed into a fort and we are dealing with a hurricane as well...the story itself begs for an open space to capture this type of action.

My two cents for what they are worth...roof or no roof, this house is in my top three for the year thus far just from what I've heard about it.

Thank you Hush for the dignified response in contrast to my own opinion. As I am entitled to my opinion, you're entitled to yours. Like I mentioned above - lack of roofs will not ruin a house (though it can hamper certain scenes - see Dead Exposure last year), but their presence is much appreciated since it helps with the immersion. As for your argument that the low-roofs wouldn't work in the fort itself - I do agree here. I've explored plenty of forts myself and they're often fairly vast. Roofs would be appropriate, however, (IMO) in the ship portion of the house (assuming there is one). I didn't learn the actual plot of the house (which apparently involves the ship AND the fortress) until a night or two ago. There are certain parts of houses where a roof doesn't make sense - any outdoor portion of a house, most commonly (see Wolfman).

Just remember that this is a discussion board and varying views should be allowed and perhaps even encouraged, regardless of whether or not you necessarily agree iwth them. The condescending attitude some posters here take can be very irksome at times. Not trying to call anyone out, just trying to make people aware of it.

Back to actual Forsaken discussion -- I'm very intrigued by the idea that we enter right into the house, with a "facade" of sorts happening midway through. My guess is we'll be starting in the ship and travelling into the Fortress, which will serve as our mid-house "Facade" (the courtyard room mentioned?) Also looking forward to seeing these water effects for the "hurricane." The costumes shown so far are great! I just hope the house isn't as short as some of you are making it out to be...
