  1. I'm not sure I buy that this Jack facebook page is legit. The "about me" info is a copy-paste off of the backstory (told in third person) on several fan sites... Moreover, his posts are riddled with grammar and spelling errors, among other slipups. That picture, I bet, is an uncommonly seen photo that has been forgotten amidst all the popular glossy media shots. Maybe I'm wrong - but I see this appearing with the Cindy facebook, which was also fake, as a little too coincidental. Past Universal Facebook pages have been far more polished.

  2. Well, the questions raised over these auctions were quite legitimate. Few of us will remember that the Universal Palace was once the Universal Plaza, and the picture of the glasses posted in the ebay listing wasn't very flattering, so I can see why their authenticity might be called into question.

But regardless, at least I got a new pair of glasses out of this thread. :)

Could someone explain the Plaza thing? For as long as I could remember it was Palace, and I followed the Vault and the official site all year. Not calling that into question, I'm merely curious.

And I suppose it was you who won the auction? I decided against bidding at the last second, since it occurred to me... what the hell am I going to deal with these haha. They aren't quite as flattering as old maps, buttons, pins, or figurines.

  3. Yeah, I've been wondering what the price of the FFP with Express would be for a while, and I had always figured it would be around that much.

If I remember correctly the regular price for Express on a peak night was something like $70?

They're almost giving away the gate with the price and value of the FFP, it looks like they aren't going to be doing that with the Express.

Also, the more expensive the express passes are, the more exclusive they are, which makes them have more value.

I'll be travelling to the event a minimum of 3 nights this year, and no matter how I work it out (with the different versions of FFP), if I forego express on October the 1st I end up at $190 or if I don't forego express, $250. There's also the high possibility I'll be attending even more nights... so I guess $225 may be the price I pay. Come to think of it, I spent approximately $300 amidst my FFP, a Friday base ticket, and 3 Express Passes last year... maybe this'll be a deal after all, and I'm simply not used to seeing the price for my HHN ventures throughout the month (typically broken up into more manageable chunks) lumped together.

Then again, my birthday is in mid-september....

  4. I have a bit of an unpopular opinion on this subject, and let me just preface this by saying I don't mean to offend anyone.

I am underage, yes, and one of the few in my area (or my age group, really) who chooses not to drink. I understand the appeal but feel it isn't really worth it. I lose respect for people who do so underage, but if you're legal and handle yourself well after a few drinks, have a ball, I don't mind. My issue is when the drinking begins to conflict with my (and many others) enjoyment of the event. As you know, every year, the houses slowly get torn apart by drunks. Scare actors and guests are often abused either via fisticuffs or ass/boob grabs or otherwise. I've seen it happen, and it makes me angry. In a place like HHN it's impossible to make sure everyone drinks responsibly and as a result (in my eyes) the event suffers. If it were up to me, I'd eliminate the alcohol so everyone is guaranteed a good, safer experience with less damage being wrought to the expertly crafted sets. But, it's a huge moneymaker, and many actually do handle themselves well after a few drinks, so that'll never be a reality.

  5. Mardi Gras... in San Francisco... Okay. hah!

If there really is a scarezone in SF, does that mean that we won't have a scarezone where Containment and Path of the Wicked were? (I'm kicking myself right now because I can't remember the name of the street) Every traditional scarezone location in the park has a scareactor role except for that street.

I highly doubt they'd discontinue using the Plaza of the Stars - that's the main thoroughfare most guests take upon arriving to the event. It sounds like San Francisco will actually be an addition to the usual assortment of zones, bringing the total up to 7 - which would be awesome, IMO. The dead space between Mummy all the way to the end of Central Park has always felt weak.

  6. I'm writing as a curious fan with a taste for collectibles, especially of the HHN variety. I've been browsing eBay and have come across some supposed collectibles that don't exactly scream "authentic", despite high reputations by the sellers. A few examples -

Any comments on the validity of some of the advertised items, or any other suspicious auctions you may have come across in your experience?

  7. I really think the fourth one looks like The Caretaker, though it's not as obvious as the others (especially Jack & the Usher, but they've always been the most visually striking in my opinion). It's sad to see that Universal has pretty much declared there's only been 5 "original" icons when really there's been 6 (Mary says hello...)

I'll copy-paste my website observations from the Speculation thread, before this one was reopened:

Good to see lots of minor characters getting represented (White Rabbit, Ice Queen, The Projectionist, Incubus, Nightmare, etc.), but there were some notable omissions. Chucky, Jigsaw, and the Wolfman are nowhere to be seen - and more importantly - Cindy, Eddie, and (sigh) Bloody Mary are missing as well. This is disappointing, as I was hoping Eddie & Cindy would at least have some recognition (since they have appeared despite not getting their own year as planned). As for Mary, I would hate to see her important part in HHN history going unrecorded due to copyright agreements... surely they could work out something where Mary could at least appear on the website for archival purposes!?

The increased intensity of the flame on the main page is interesting, and probably reveals the eventual progression of that page - the flame will grow larger and more violent, the roots will grow, and eventually the entire thing will burn down or perhaps as someone else suggested be extinguished, revealing a new era of darkness. Consider me interested, but I'm still disappointed there is no actual teaser site (the archival stuff doesn't count for me, I want a Mary's Journal/Palace Theater/Carnival Mini Games).

  9. Imagine this. A floating lantern in the darkness. it begins to glow a bright orange and it shows us how 6 very unfortunate individuals became horrific entities.

A clown performing on stage at a circus while his brother is in the audience.

A mortician performing surgery on a sick patient as his daughter looks on.

A aspiring film director is shooting footage for his next project.

An elderly woman is in a library reading a storybook to children.

A woman is sitting in a doctor's office, interviewing a patient in front of a mirror**

An usher makes the rounds at his theater searching the aisles with a flashlight.

** Only if Mary is indeed a part of this year. If she isn't, then skip this idea.

Then the light from the lantern seems to glow around the person and briefly transform them into the icon that the

person is destined to become. then the 6 individuals each discover a lantern nearby and, curiosity getting the best of them, touch the lantern and slowly undergo the transformation into the Icons. SO this year, we might not only see Ringmaster, Caretaker, Storyteller, Usher, Director, BM. maybe we see their earthly personas and see how they became who they are now.

Ridiculously epic/cool idea. I could see each of those shots playing out; all with no individual audio, of course, there'd have to be some creepy/nostalgic track playing over the whole thing. The "transformation" moment could be amazing... I hope this year's commercial is as cool as that, rather than being a 2009 meh-fest.

  10. There will be no UTH tours on Sept 24th, wouldnt want to give anything away the first day before the event has even started ;) but they should start the next day on the 25th. Final details have not been set in stone just yet, they're close, just waiting on final approvals and such. The age restriction will apply again this year. The guides conducting the tours can not be held responsible for someone underage. Dont be surprised if there is a price increase, hopefully it wont be a huge one. In the past the tour was offered twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. As the tour only takes place on HHN event dates the last tour has to be clear of any houses by 4pm so the tech crew can the house ready for that night's operation.

Remember, if you want to be on the mailing list for the RIP and UTH tour info the moment it is cleared for release all you have to do is send a brief email to viptours@universalorlando.com and ask to be placed on the HHN XX tour information mailing list.

Awesome info, thanks. If there's a tour on the 25th I should be all set, regardless of any age restrictions (have a father who's rather interested in the artistry of it all but not too keen on getting scared). Will definitely keep an eye out!

  11. Some requests, even if I haven't experienced some of the originals -

-Ghost Town. I believe this is the only appearance of the Wild West in Halloween Horror Nights' history... which is surprising, since it's a bit of a gold mine (yuk yuk) for scare possibilities and some awesome sets.

-The Thing. The movie's terrifying and a classic, and the house tried something new with its puppets & animatronics - many loved it for that, and as an animatronic buff, I'd love to see a sequel (even if it is unlikely).

-S.S. Frightanic. Like the Wild West, this seems to be a theme HHN hasn't utilized much, despite its many possibilities. Give us an updated combination of the two Frightanic houses with cutting edge special effects & visual tricks.

-Fearhouse/Clown-O-Vision. I love funhouses, scary or not. I know we had a recent "3D" version with Jack in 07, but there's a ton of potential angles they could take with this... it's an easy theme to work with and is a nice contrast to the typical brooding night sets (bright colors, etc.)

-Screamhouse. Love me some spooky Victorian sets. Give me a Screamhouse sequel now with our living-dead Cindy and, instead of the "minions", how about the rest of the undead Caine family.

-Dead Exposure. I'm shocked this one isn't more requested. The original Dead Exposure scared me shitless... it was a novel idea used with extreme efficiency, despite some flaws in the latter half of the house. If they were to give the style of house another go with some smartly designed sets & costumes the whole way through, it could be even more mindblowingly-awesome than the original.

  12. The crooked fences at the Disaster queue make me think zombies, maybe in the vein of Deadtropolis. I do also get that Creatures! vibe, but I can't imagine they'd stick that type of house in the Disaster queue, especially since that space has seen a pattern of either zombie, super-gore, and/or cannibal houses...

That massive-looking facade for the Sprung Tent is mighty promising, though. After several years of disappointing Sprung Tent facades (with the sort-of exception of The Hallow IMO) it looks like they're finally amping things up into a more elaborate entrance. No idea as to what it could be, it's a pretty generic shape, but color me excited.

  13. I wanted to take the UTH tour last year but was unable to due to the short notice of the tour's existence (our plans were already in stone). Hopefully this year we'll have a chance to do it.

Some questions for those who have done it in the past - do they typically offer them the first weekend? (The day I'm looking at is Saturday, September 25th)

How much was it last year for the most basic tour? (3-soundstages)

There is an 18-year-old accompaniment restriction, correct? Meaning I'll need an adult of that age to accompany me if I wish to take the tour? (I'll be 17 at the time)

What time of day have the tours been offered? Ideally I'd like to go to the event opening night on Friday the 24th, take a tour in early afternoon or morning on the 25th, and then use an After-4PM Islands pass before heading over to the event again that evening.

Thanks for any help, glad the tour is most likely coming back!
