  1. The whole TCM maze was just one long scary scene for me, that was probably the first maze I ever felt terrified in. Also, I forget which one it was, but the it was a NOES one and it had a furnace that Freddy would come bursting out of and swing his gloved hand around. That little scene really got me cause damn did that gloved hand get really close to me.

  2. So the FB group is now public, But I'm still not seeing the HOTC facade. Can someone please just post it for me, or a link, Because I just cant seem to find it. Btw awesome pics Blues. Oh and another BTW Blues, that pic of the castle looking thing on the backlot (on your blog) is from the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. (if I'm not mistaken)

That makes sense, it looks like it could be from that era. Whatever it is, it looks pretty awesome.

  3. I went yesterday, but then got incredibly drunk and passed out in an alleyway. I'm awake and hungover today though, so I'll get some pictures up in a few minutes haha.

EDIT: Alright I'm gonna put them up, I'm only gonna put a few up though in the event you guys have seen them already. Don't want to waste people's time with repeats lol. All of them can be seen on my blog though.

  4. I just got home and was browsing my e-mail when I saw the annual pass announcement. That was pretty anti-climatic. I keep thinking though that someone was probably supposed to announce the Friday the 13th Maze on August 13th. I wonder who fucked that up.

I'm a little underwhelmed, but I missed out on Saw last year cause of the long line, so in a way, it's like I'm only getting two repeats. Gotta look at the bright side. :)

  5. My main concern with making a maze based off of the remake is that the remake lacked the really creative kills that the original had. Most of the creative scenery and moments were lifted off of the original film. The new film really didn't take too many risks when adventuring in to the realm of dreams, choosing to stay safe with what was already done. Just about the only unique scene that stands out in my mind is the stuff revolving around the daycare.

With that being said, I'm really interested in seeing how Mr. Murdy is going to use the movie as inspiration for his maze. The quality of a movie doesn't really affect the quality of a maze. Just look at My Bloody Valentine last year, the maze took a fairly crappy movie and turned it into an enjoyable experience. I think Mr. Murdy is going to have to take some real creative license with this movie in order to twist it into something that is as equally awe-inspiring as some of the previous mazes that were based on the NOES franchise.

  6. Here's my thoughts on originality that I posted on my blog. It's kinda longish lol:

What some people are failing to realize though is that this announcement goes well beyond Vampires, it could shake the very foundations of Halloween Horror Nights! AND THE WORLD! Well, maybe not the world, but still, it might be kinda important.

For awhile now, there has been a very strong and loud group of fans that have been demanding Hollywood begin using original maze concepts like it's sister park, Orlando. For those that don't know, Orlando tends to rely less on movie properties and has a greater focus on original mazes and Icons. In fact the few original Icons that we've had in Hollywood, actually got their start over in Orlando.

However, not every fan is as excited to get an original property and I'm not going to say that they're really close minded to not want it. It has always been John Murdy's stance that Universal Studios shares a world with Hollywood and therefore, the park's Halloween events will always reflect that world. Meaning studio properties and movie horror icons will always be integrated into the theme of the park somehow. Which you have to admit makes sense. However, how long can that really last before you're either a.) scraping the bottom of the barrel for long forgotten movie properties or b.) you're just retreading old ideas.

I understand the desire to use popular figures like Freddy Krueger and Jason to promote your event, it's going to be a bigger draw than some imaginary figure. I mean, lets face it. Are people going to be clamoring at the gates of Univesal to get into Vampyre? Probably not, but if you shove a Friday the 13th maze at them, you'll get a greater response. However, if you have to come back to that franchise year after year, people are going to start develop a "been there, done that attitude" and look elsewhere for their scares.

So what is Universal going to have to do to continue being profitable and how is this a sign of things changing? If Vampyre turns out to be a wildy popular maze with the general attendees, then you can certainly expect to see another original maze return next year. The creative staff at Universal takes fan reaction into huge consideration and if public opinion swings towards originality, that's what we're going to get.

Does that mean original mazes will soon dominate Universal Studios? Most definitely not. You can rest assured that fan favorite properties will always have a home at Halloween Horror Nights for the simple reason that they're hugely profitable for everyone involved. What's going to happen though is, if Vampyre is a success, we may begin to see more of a balance of original themes and adaptations of movies. This blend of the two will help to assure that Universal maintains a fan-base who craves to be surrounded by their favorite horror franchises, while helping to keep some of the older veterans intrigued with the promise of never before seen mazes and characters.

  7. You know what would've been cool? Today was the planned release date for the next Friday the 13th sequel, before it descended into development hell. It would've been pretty rockin to get a new Jason movie on the same day that they announce his involvement at HHN (IF he is involved).

Even better! In the trailers, we get the first commercial for HHN that exposes Jason being involved. :D

  8. i forgot to post this sooner but i remember we were talking about this somewhere...

as to if they would put TINY in HOTC or what they were going to do with him.

so i asked murdy on twitter and the answer is Yes.

He said that TINY will be a part of HOTC and you will see him in the firefly house and also he mentioned that he has something special planned for him.

This makes me happy cause TINY is one of my favorite characters(: lol

but just thought i'd share this because i remember it being discussed a while ago.

My guess is that he'll either be a real person, possibly sitting down or using some kind of apparatus to look that tall or he'll be an effect. They could pull him off as an effect since he was so slow and lumbering.

  9. Somebody on FB semi-confirmed their return. Someone said they went to Universal today (I'm going tomorrow to double-check.) and someone said they saw the Camp Crystal lake sign in the construction area. Guess Freddy and Jason are returning. I'm not going to have too much of a problem with it since I never saw the original two mazes, but the fact that we're getting Freddy and Jason FOR A THIRD YEAR just frustrates me while Orlando is getting eight BRAND-NEW MAZES EVERY YEAR! The repetitiveness here is just uuugghhhh!!! :chainsaw: I swear I can hear the people in Orlando laughing at us right now! <_< Why can't our event just do BRAND-NEW EVERYTHING for a change!?!? They re-use the Asylum in '07 for the Freddy maze, in '08 they reused Friday and Texas, in '09, they re-used some of the Freddy props for MBV (From footage I've seen on youtube), and now this year we're getting stuck with Jason and Freddy AGAIN! Murdy, I appreciate all the work you do for the event but I ask you this....WHY DO YOU HAVE TO LIE TO US!!??!!

    rant over. :D

Hahah, that's pretty funny, didn't I say I wouldn't jump to any conclusions unless someone sees the Camp Crystal Lake sign? Weird, but I really think that they would keep something so obvious hidden until they needed it.
