  1. Yup, I saw Murdy twice. Once on the Red Carpet, he was standing like a foot away from me talking to a reporter next to me and I was up next, but unfortunately he had to cut and run, which I totally understand.

Second time he was standing right behind me at the Eyegores going over a script with someone.

Haha and possibly, trying to figure out how I should give them out. :P

  2. NIGHTMAREZ

Unfortunately because of the way we entered the park, I totally bypassed this area and didn't think think to walk through until the end of the night when it was pretty much empty, so....I can't tell you much about this area.

    LA LLORONA

This was probably the zone I was looking forward to seeing the most because of my history with the character and because of the prospect of bringing in material that had never been touched upon before. The mood and atmosphere were perfect. It became eerily quiet with a subtle music choice and a soundtrack of La Llorona crying for her children in Spanish. Unfortunately it was put in the smallest place so you got through it rather quickly and weren't really confronted with much. There were a few creepy kids running around and La Llorona herself worked on being creepy rather than being straight out scary which I think was effective for her character. In a lot of ways she reminded me of the Witch in Left 4 Dead. She wasn't an imposing character, but she left you feeling like you'd rather avoid her altogether.

    LUNATICZ

This one was interesting, because we had just left the Eyegore Awards and walked directly out into this mess. I was still a little buzzed from the drink I had and to be confronted by a man with a scythe was no laughing matter. There were quite a few good scare-actors wandering this section and laughing maniacally. My favorite though were the guards running up to you and warning you not to go in.

    FREAKZ

Probably one of the most creative zones featured in the park, featuring uniquely designed characters and a well decorated section, this one will really keep you on your toes, especially considering how shrouded in fog this section is. Things just seem to materialize out of the dense fog. I also almost got my head taken off by one of the Freakz carrying a mallet, it was awesome.

    KLOWNZ

We probably walked through this section a dozen times (mostly cause my photographer is afraid of clowns and I kept making up excuses to go through). While I thought it was well down and loved seeing the stilt walking Harlequin, I felt this area was a bit more empty and not as packed with scare-actors as the other areas. This could be because it's a more open area though that's a lot more brightly lit.

    PIGZ

Okay this was one that really didn't have much of an atmosphere to me, it always seems to get recycled to be the same kind of zone every year, but I still love it because they do a good job of populating it with Sliders and Chain Saw guys. Plus, this year they got me really good. One of the Pigz hid behind a trash can as I was leaving the restroom area and just screamed and shot his chainsaw out at me. Holy shit, I'm glad I had just left the restroom or else I would've pissed myself.

  3. So for those that are curious about what this event is like, I thought I'd give you a little rundown of what goes on.

The Experience- The worst part was standing in line, the sun was just piercing my flesh. As I got closer to the front to get my pass I started thinking "There's no way they're letting my ass into this thi event. I'm going to get to the front and they're going to say 'Halloween Blues? Never heard of it.'" To my relief though, not only was I let in, but I also had my own my little sign showing me where to stand on the red carpet and even though a 100 people stepped on it, I still picked it up and took it home with me. They also give me a USB drive, two Vampyre comics (which I might give away to the curious who didn't get one) and a fact sheet of the celebrities attending. I also got my Press Pass badge which sent me to the front of the line for all the mazes.

The red carpet events were rather fun, there were quite a few big horror icons who were gladly giving out interviews, I didn't snag any this time around.

Inside the event, they had a spectacular little set up for the award show hosts and winners. Corey Feldman was presenting and I don't know if this dude is just one of those "naturally high" kind of guys, but he seemed like he was tripping.

Universal made the mistake of giving out free alcohol and sandwiches, which I heavily partook of. It was like Christmas morning, I was in disbelief that they were having an open bar and the food wsa so amazing, I could've eaten those sandwiches all day long. Not to mention the dessert which was these fantastic little bakery treats. God, I'm drooling just thinking about them again. :(

Fan Boy Moments- To say the least, I had a few awesome geek moments. For one, I got to meet Patrick Fabian (star of the Last Exorcism) and despite being a little buzz from all the Vodka, was able to communicate how much I loved his movie and his acting ability. The dude was a class act though, he took a picture with me and talked with everyone that approached him. Real cool guy, hope he gets more roles.

Then I got to stand right next to Derek Mears (Jason Voorhees) throughout the Award show and as we watched the Film Contest entries. Which is a fucking trip to be watching a scary movie with Jason standing next to you.

Later on I saw Derek and Tyler Mane chatting and having fun together and it dawned on me that Micheal Myers and Jason Voorhees were best buddies. We're all screwed.

My photographer was wandering the Award show and ran into Eli Roth, literally. She's such a fan girl of him that she was in shock all night.

After the Award show I jumped on the King Kong Tram and realized I was sitting next to Christopher Lloyd. I could've died right then and there.

The Awards- The Award show was kind of a weird mix. Some of the awards seemed like they were given out at random, like I really couldn't tell why some people were being honored. However, the most deserved were Sid Haig and Christopher Lloyd. I think Christopher might have been hitting the free bar as much as I was cause he was either depressed or drunk. He just seemed rather off that night, but then again, maybe that's the way he usually is. It's not like I know they guy lol. The weirdest part was when he tried to give the award back.

Rob Zombie had a couple of great quotes- *After everyone cheered for House of a 1000 Corpses* "Oh, yeah right, now you guys love that movie."

"I got escorted off the Universal Studios lot for making that movie (HOTC) and now there's a fucking maze here. Funny how that works."

Sid Haig also had some great things to say and possibly had the best acceptance speech: "I want to thank everyone that helped me, but especially everyone that didn't help me, because you really pissed me off. You also made me work harder though, and hard work always pays off."

I'll post pictures as soon as my camerawoman sends them to me.

  4. Flash in a maze sucks.

Agreed! I saw something that was even worse a couple of weeks ago though. I was in the HOH maze and there was a father with his 20 year old daughter going through, well she got so scared that he had to pull out his little key chain light and use it to shin around corners so she could go through. I wanted to slap it out of his hands lol.

  5. Seeing that video makes me think Chucky is perfect for the Terror Tram.

Speaking of which, I was going through a parking lot yesterday and as I passed by one of the cars and I thought I saw a little girl in the passenger seat. I thought that was kind of risky to leave your child in the car, especially with the windows up (even though it was a cold day) so I did a double take and nearly pissed myself. It was a Chucky doll (with scarred face) dressed as a girl. I love the Halloween season.

  6. Knowing this is the Shrek Venue gives us some idea. I'm assuming the final scare is in the final room.

The final final scare is while you're exiting that room.

And then of course, the final final final scare is that hallway out of the building where Freddy comes out of a curtain to hide away Shrek.

Oh that's right, I forgot they had it set up like that. The final final final scare always gets me.

  7. Well on the corner of the cover picture it says 4.99 so I'm assuming that's the going price of this thing. While the artist is probably ten times better than me, I really wouldn't pay for that level of craftsmanship. I've gotten free comics that had better art then this, so I don't know why Universal couldn't fork out a few extra bucks to get a more professional artist.

  8. Yup, I got my pass. I'm surprised I was able to garner one, I thought for sure they'd laugh me off, but I think it's cause I also write for Technorati.

Man, I'm excited. I'll see if I can tweet the event as well. Electro_Killer will have your park needs covered and I'll take the award show. It's like a double team of awesome.

  9. hahahaha. has anybody rode it yet? i heard it was real corny and old.

Corny and old? No way, it was a great innovative new ride. Granted, it's not a must see, but as part of the overall tram experience, it really gives the whole thing a much deserved shot in the arm.

My recommendation is to try to get a seat in the middle of the tram. You can pretty much see everything from wherever you sit, but to get the full effect, you have to be in the middle.
