  1. And now for something completely different:

We have nine houses for the anniversary year with one of them in an all new location and a current location leaving.  I heard from someone last year that with all the construction going on Universal has been working to make sure the event stays within the studios and does not spill over into IOA.

I am curious, given this information, if that means next year we will be back to an eight house event with the Shrek theater becoming a permanent house location?

They could justify it as the extra house was only because it was an anniversary year and that they never intended to keep the house count at nine.  Heck, if Diagon opens up the ninth house is going to pale in capacity comparison to having access to that section of the park.

If this ends up being the case, I withdraw any argument I have made for houses from the past coming back exactly as they were and hope we have no more scene for scene repeat houses.

  2. right  now it feels like a good thing because of the house being repeated and the puppets (as well as having 1 extra house)

but it worries me a little bit that they will repeat not so great houses in the future. Imagine if they repeated the Walking dead house of 2012.... If they repeat fan favorites it would be great, (the best houses of previews years)  I don't think I would mind too much.

Agree in theory, but maybe not in practice.

The reason I say that is because, if they want to repeat give us some of the older houses.  Dust off the mothballs on something presented 10 years ago before TWD brought in a whole new and different crowd and give the new attendees something they have never seen before and the older attendees something from the past that they loved.

Edit: I am saying this under the provision that they keep providing us with nine houses.  I am not sure if that will continue, but if it does I would be fine as long as they adhere to a nine house count and try some of the older houses.

  3. I don't get how one can say this isn't an icon year. When Icons get their own street with their own killings, Jack (icon) gets his face around (not as much as you'd like I guess but he's still present on most advertising things in some form or another and I imagine it'll extend onto billboards and park maps when that time come). Jack (icon) gets his show again. Jack (icon) gets a house. There's a lot of focus on icons. I don't see why lack of advertisement of icons means icons don't exist or it isn't the year of the icons when there's obviously a street, a house, and a show dedicated to icons all in one year.

I've missed every icon under the sun and I'm thrilled most, if not all making a comeback all at once in some form.

I may not have explained why some are saying it is not an icon year well enough.  Earlier icon years the icons did not have such strong ties to every house and usually they had a house of their own and all the advertising.  They were still called icons, but they had not yet become the throughline that brought the whole event into one singular story.

Later icon years the icon story somehow tied every house and scarezone together.  Whether the tie was deep (Terra Cruentus and Bloody Mary) or shallow (Jack's Carnival of Carnage or The Usher) the icon somehow had some tie to every house and scarezone.  These are what most people refer to when they are talking about icon years.

Then in 20 and 21 there were icons but they ended up with just a scarezone a piece and (in the case of 20) had little to no ties to each house.

Depending upon what you consider an icon year to be depends upon how you see this year.

  4. I think the commercial is better than recent years, but it's nowhere near as good as the classic commercials. Not even close.

I don't get the vibe that this is a real icon year.

Of course the "classic" commercials were awesome, but this is a vast improvement over the recycled CRAP we've gotten the last couple of years.  I think this better illustrates more of the overall event instead just the stupid Walking Dead.  Personally, I think they short-changed themselves by making TWD such a focus over everything else previously.  HHN is so much more than one goddam house.  I'm glad to see the shift here, and I'm glad they stuck with Jack as a focus.

As for an "icon year".. well, for those who never got to see  any of these, it is DEFINITELY an icon year - all of them at once.  Good for those who never got to see them, and great for us to see them again.

If this commercial aired on tv already, why the hell hasn't it been officially posted?  What's going on?

I agree that this commercial is better than the past few years, but not quite what we have had in the past.

That being said, I am not sure if this qualifies as an icon year or a year with icons.  The first few icons really just served as a face and had their own house while the later icons tied the whole event together.  Depending upon how you look at things you could call it an early icon year or (if you are going by the later icons) just another year with icons present.

Whatever you define it as, I am happy to see the icons represented and really hope this means 2016 will have a new original icon that can become as well known as Jack.

  5. Good info. Thanks!

No problem.  Sadly I cannot use 2013 as a barometer as they only had 3 original houses with one being 3D and the other being in the Disaster queue (have they ever done a lights on tour in this location?) so the only original lights on was La Llorona.

Given the four originals, I am expecting Body Collectors and Monster and Mayhem to be the two originals with the IP houses all a toss up depending upon rights issues.

  6.

I feel the same way. I really want to see the Monsters and Mayhem house because I think that will be the most interesting detail wise to see lights on because of all the HHN history. I also saw AWIL on the tour back in 2013, so as much as I loved that house, I would rather see others on the tour. I wouldn't have booked mine so soon because I would rather know as well, but I was afraid it would fill up. I think dream tour would be FvJ, anniversary house, Body Collectors/Insidious (can't pick, I'd be happy with either).

Assuming they stick to what they did last year, expect two IPs and one original on each tour.

  7. Jack will need the queue space in the Plaza. AWiL doesn't warrant that kind of queue size at all, considering it's a repeat. I think they'll take the line around the back of SS21, maybe setup some switchbacks (because it still will need more queue than what FDTD had, which was basically nothing), then go into SS22.

Couldn't Jack just use the queue space CITW had?  I recall that having a lot of space (but maybe my memory has dulled).  Looking at the map below I would think there is more queue space if you make Jack's first and use all of the room behing SS21.

Also, how do you see them running the two queues without having the entrances or exits cross?

Thank you for any insight you have!

  8. I love the idea and decoration of this scarezone and it would be my most anticipated BUT the Jack show is right freaking there.  Concerns over noise leaks and more congestion than usual make me wary of a zone I want to love.

  9. We are behind. Here is last year on July 27, 2014:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20140727121425/http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com/orlando/

They announced 4 houses and 2 scare zones at this point. I get there may be other reasons they haven't let us know things as quickly this year, but the website/marketing is doing a terrible job.

From the perspective of a fan who just wants the announcements I agree; but I am curious if the GP has even noticed a difference in the announcement scedule?  I mean, the delay could be a tactic to boost ticket sales BEFORE they announce the properties that will potentially turn people off.

  10. Booked our UTH tour yesterday!!!!! Going to go through 6 houses.... then regular HHN.... that's gonna be a long day. I better start stepping up my training (running and watching monster movies).

This is what I am doing too (and have done in the past) and it does make for a long day but it is super enjoyable!

Okay, so for those in the know, is the AWIL redo going to have NEW scenes or just reworked versions of the scenes in the original house?

  11. Can someone explain the difference between Unmasking The Horror Tier 1 and Tier 2?

This was answered on the last page, but I will answer it again (also, this question has been asked and answered in the Tickets section where it belongs).

Tier 1 is for weekend tours while tier 2 is for weekdays.  You will be paying more for a weekend tour.

  12. Ok. I am looking at the behind the screams tours and there is an option for "tier 1 and tier 2".  one is $5 more than the other. no real explanation online that I have found. can someone shed some light on this????

One books for during the week and the other books for weekends. When you select the calendar it becomes very clear (although until I did that I had no idea of the difference myself). One would think they would have just labelled it Weekday Tours and Weekend Tours.

  14. No rumored info on the cost plus Express but i'd say add $130 to each ticket as a starting point.

That seems like about what it has been in past years.

To me, the bigger question is, what is the cost going to be when adding in this theoretical "After 10pm" Express? Also, if they are offering an After 10pm Express, does that mean the park will be open PAST midnight every night?

  15. Possible ticket prices according to HHNRumors (http://hhnrumors.com/hhn-ticket-prices-soar-break-100-mark/):

Going to HHN this year just got a bit more expensive. Rumor has it that the price of a single night ticket without any discounts will cost $102 plus tax. That’s a $6 increase over the same ticket last year. Frequent Fear Pass Plus (without discount) is still at an affordable rate of $111 plus tax which will get you back to the event numerous times. Remember, until Universal officially releases ticket prices, this is all just speculation and subject to change. Some other notable ticket options are as follows:

    • Single Night Admission (No Discount) – $102
    • FFP (No Discount) – $95
    • FFP+ (No Discount) – $111
    • Rush of Fear (No Discount) – $84
    • Single Night Admission Non Peak (FL Res Coupon/Annual Pass) – $50
    • Single Night Admission Friday (FL Res Coupon/Annual Pass) – $61
    • Single Night Admission Saturday (FL Res Coupon/Annual Pass) – $77
    • FFP (Annual Pass) – $84
    • FFP+ (Annual Pass) – $99
    • Rush of Fear (Annual Pass) – $73

Express passes have supposedly gone up to $130 a night. YIKES! They have also supposedly introduced a new after 10pm express pass that will be around $70.

  16. Prepare to have at least one of your assumptions about house locations challenged. Tent three is not happening, but there's still nine houses.

From what I have heard, Universal is looking to reconfigure/expand their parades and is building another parade warehouse in the MIB expansion pad. Should we assume that this is where the rumored third tent house will go instead?

  17. Well, since HHN is their main moneymaker for 1/8th of the year, a wise decision would be to designate areas in upcoming projects for HHN traffic and house space.

You don't even have to try hard to do so, just build large extended queue areas.

I have heard tell that all future attraction plans must be worked into the plans of any major attractions/expansions to the studios and that they would prefer to keep it to the one park. Could they be forced to make it two park due to construction? Possibly. But Teebin on OU says that they want to keep it 'within its most recent boundaries'.

  18. Okay, so if Nintendo goes into Kidzone and the MIB plot we could potentially lose two or three house locations (Sprungs and Parade). Rumors are also flying that there will be a Disaster replacement soon so that potentially takes another house location away. There are also rumors of a Twister replacement but that one may not lose us a house location so much as they would have to reroute the queue location (assuming they want the attraction open for HHN). Worst case scenario, we lose four house locations in the Studios.

Moving over to Islands, there are rumors of an upgrade coming to Marvel that may add a new ride so, depending upon the footprint of said attraction, we cannot absolutely count on the Carnage Warehouse. The Triceratops Encounter trails are supposedly going to hold a JW raptor meet and greet so they might be out as well. The other four locations (Discovery Center, Thunderfalls Terrace, Popeye and Bluto, and Poseidon) are currently 'safe' but in a few years, who knows?

With the dwindling house locations it might become harder to put on the event. Add to that the fact that having the event in two parks may not be profitable enough to justify shutting both parks down for the event. To me this begs the question, at what point does it become more costly to put on HHN than to not?

Personally, my friends and I only visit Universal yearly due to HHN, so not having it would remove our incentive to visit the resort every year. Remove HHN from the equation and you have lost yourself six regular visitors. Does Universal/Comcast know that an audience like this exists? Better yet, do we out of staters represent a large enough segment of their population during Sept/Oct for them to care?

  19. At least in Toon you convert:

Dudley = Mario's Adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom

Popeye's = The Legend of Zelda: Journey of the Zora (complete with Water Temple)

Wimpy' Burgers = Lon Lon Ranch

    Dagwood's = Pokemon Center

Then build the kid coaster that was suppose to sit between Dudley and Pandemonium (Rocky's Flying Squirrel Coaster) and theme it to Donkey Kong.

Instant Nintendo island. Then you can leave KidZone for something that's actually been a movie or TV show.

Don't get me wrong, I like your idea, but Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Donkey Kong have all been tv shows and two of the four have had movies made out of them.
