  1. I have three words for this scarezone...Nine Inch Nails! Here are the songs that were played through out the zone. NIN - Ghost 8, NIN - Ghost 10, and NIN - Ghost 15. Also, I beleave that NIN - Ghost 29 was played in Brian Brushwood's show.

well played, sir! you're correct! (at least with regards to my show)

  2. I was in line for Zombiegeddon and I could have sworn that I heard songs by Benny Benassi and Pendulum during one of the shows. Was this during Menace or Malice?

The Benny Benassi you heard would be one of my favorite mashups we're playing before the shows:

And yes, both shows start with some Pendulum in them, (different songs, too!)

  3. Yeah, I've been watching a lot of Scam School and your BBLiveShow on Youtube, really funny stuff. Any chance of getting the intro videos on YouTube when the event is over? Or possibly a direct download link through megaupload or sendspace?

Absolutely. The intro videos were collaborations with my buddies over at Film Riot. You can even learn how to do the fire demon effect for yourself right here:

we cut down a special version of the "pitch meeting" skit for the intro of menace, but I'll make that available as well.

  4. Brian, I'm sure you're going to read this because I know you've been lurking around the forums,

    LOL... totally busted.

but I really enjoyed both shows today. The intro videos were hilarious and definitely set the mood for the rest of the show. And thanks for the Cheats, Cons, Swindles, & Tricks book. Lots of interesting stuff in there I'll be doing with some friends ;) It was great to meet you and I'll be looking forward to checking it out a few more times before the end of October.

I'm glad you dug the intro video stuff. My goal was for the "show" to start the moment you walked in the door with the pre-show and intro videos. Don't know if you noticed, but we mix up some of the mash-ups before each of the shows, too (this one's my current favorite: Kanye Mahna.mp3).

  5. So how did night 1 w/audience treat you?

we had some major surprises during both the first menace and malice shows, but the audiences were fantastic. Having an audience there really changes some logistics, but makes for SUCH better energy.

It's really awesome to watch the whole team come together... it's like we all develop this ESP for the exact moment for the next sound, music, and light cues, all reacting to the crowd and volunteers.

  6. I havn't been to the Beetlejuice show in... oh, 10 years maybe?... but I remember the stage being (or feeling) quite a way away from the audience? Sorta similar to Bill and Ted with the wide pathway at the front... whereas when I saw the show on the Animal Actors stage it felt as though we were very near to you, almost like we were part of the show, or a studio audience or something. Might be because I remember BJ with an elevated stage so you're looking down on us? I dunno, has age just played tricks with my mind, or I wonder if this year will feel more like 'observing' compared to 2007/8's 'involved' feel?

that's a good question. Make sure to let me know how it looks/feels from your perspective after the shows!

  7. Brian, I see that you are going to be in the Bettlejuice Theater this year. I personally think that the venue is excellent for any type of show, being a "graveyard" and all. Out of curiosity, will your show make use of any of the pre-existing stage sets? I saw your show in 2008. I didnt think that the stage did you justice however. Being the animal actors stage and all. I am really looking forward to your two shows. I have already told people going with me that we will see two different shows back to back, so they are prepared.

Good luck this year and hopefully I will get to meet you in person after one of the shows.

OMG, it's unreal how well the both Menace and Malice fit in this venue. doing the shows at BJ makes me really see all the challenges we had at Animal Actors... BJ theater is more intimate (there's not a bad seat in the house), the sound system is better, the lighting is incredible, and we're able to use the entire stage... very excited.

  8. yeah, I have one night to attempt this as well, Oct 10th, which luckily is a 1am night. i THINK i have a way to get it all accomplished...we'll just have to see. Am definetly going to figure out a way to make sure I'm there for at least one though.

Now, as a person who hasn't seen any of your stuff live (although have seen all the demo reels from the website) do you have one you'd personally suggest seeing?

That's a tough call-- if you had asked me a month ago, I might have suggested Menace since I already know so much of that show plays well to the HHN crowd. But after the last few nights of rehearsals, I'm happy to report that I really like Malice as well. They're very different shows, and without knowing what kind of stuff you're into, I don't know that I could pick a recommendation for you. :-/

(I think it's a fair question after asking Patrick which of his children he loves more...)

Busted. This is why I had to at least respond honestly :-)

  9. Other than the signage, be sure to specifically say that to the guests that there's two different variations of the show. Some people just don't read, lol. I'm going for two nights this Fri and Sat and I'm hoping to catch one of the shows one day and one of the shows the other.

I suspect there will be a lot of folks like you who come back on different days. (I'd imagine it'd be tough to tie up 2 hours of your one night at HHN with just one show). Make sure to say "hi" after the show and tell me what you think!

  10. I think the crowd who come for one night will pass on at least one of the shows, maybe even both (and Bill and Ted), because at the end of the day they're turning up to get scared in the houses and on the streets, not to see magic and illusion shows. With house times hitting 2 hours sometimes, it's an inevitability they won't get time to see it all.

    absolutely. couldn't agree more.

But I think those of us who spring for the Frequent Fear pass, who hit the event on multiple nights, are just as excited as you are about what you've got lined up for us. I'm going seven nights this year and plan on catching both Menace and Malice several times. How does that work, will the map list which show is on at which time, or will we just have a list of all showtimes and we don't know which one we're seeing until we're in there? That's important, if they only see times for one show ("Brian Brushwood: Menace and Malice", as they plug it on the website) they'll see it and not even realise there's new stuff to stick around for in the next one.

From the posted images of the map, it looks like it only lists "menace and malice" as a location, but the signage at the venue clearly states which shows are menace, and which are malice. As for knowing that there are two shows, I think we've done a really good job of designing the show such that everyone knows that there are two totally different experiences. While the one-day crowd may have a hard time catching both shows, it's really the frequent fear crowd that I'm hoping will definitely make both shows. I'm surprised at how different both of them are thematically. Each really has a different feel and character, and I'll be *really* interested to see which one is the more popular (both with the hardcores, and with the one-day crowd).

My ideal situation is that it's like "album 1" vs. "album 2" arguments about the Beatles white album...

...but I'll be happy as long as it's not a "Jonas Brothers vs. Justin Bieber" style argument about who sucks more.

    -Brian

  11. guys-- just wanted to report in and let you know that we just had our first full-on rehearsal for the "Malice" show. I. AM. SO. STOKED.

Menace includes a lot of elements that were in the 2008 show, so I knew that one was pretty safe (but still: don't forget there's new routines in that show as well), but before tonight, Malice was a pretty big question mark for me. We made some pretty major design changes that I wasn't sure how they would play out... but now that we've done it, I'm totally excited. I'm sorry (?) to say that this is turning out to be the kind of thing where people are really going to *need* to come to both shows to get the full experience.

My question to you is: is that crazy talk? I know most people come to HHN for the houses, but is there any chance folks will carve out enough time for Menace AND Malice?

    -Brian

  12. Forgive me if this was answered during the stream (I didn't watch the stream. Sorry :( ) but I'm wondering. Does anyone know if both "Menace" and "Malice" shows happen every night of the event or if one show is on peak nights and the other is on non-peak nights?

YES! both Menace and Malice will run every single night. The plan is that you should be able to watch one, then immediately come back and watch the other.

  13. Hey guys-- last week we did a livestream with Patrick Braillard (you can watch it at menaceandmalice.com). One of the first things I'm going to do when we get situated in Orlando is setup a remote studio location and do some more HHN livestreams, which has me asking.... What would YOU like to see in a show all about HHN?

Obviously, Universal won't let us pull out any spoilers but I was thinking about stuff like:

an epic faceoff, where viewers vote for the best HHN of the past

a "fantasy" HHN livestream, where callers share what they'd like to see in future HHNs

a "real" ghost story livestream, where we all share the scariest (non HHN-related) experience we've ever had.

    what do you guys suggest?

    Brian

  14. Im really not excited for the Brian Brushwood show. I didnt get to see him the years I've gone, but people I've spoken to said it was just a waste of time. I do mourn the loss of our, pretty much beloved, RHPS. However, if it means having a show that will lessen crowds and one less show I feel the need to go to, which of course makes time for more houses ;), then I am All for it

Oh, hey-- that's a good point. If you haven't seen it before, here's the kind of stuff I do:

  15. You are definitely my favorite magician, Your so down to earth and do stuff like make an account on a forum just to talk to the fans. I think that's an awesome thing for some one to do! B)

Glad you dig it. Anyone who entertains for a living has the best job in the entire world, and I figure we owe it all to fans like you guys. (So maybe I go a little overboard in trying to connect with them... maybe I'm like the Kevin Smith of Magic).

  16. Officer Friendly there looks like he's trying not to smile. But I would like to say I respect the fact that you are on here to reassure us that you are truly going to bring us a great expierience this year. I saw your show the first year you were at HHN and I loved it. I will admit the second year I was a little dissapointed to see some of the same stuff but since I was with a group that had never seen your show before it was still fun. I have a FFPP so you can count on me being at both shows to check it out. Might even stay after to say hey. Oh and I love the idea of leaving secret stashes around the park. I will be searching for them!

Oh, yeah-- the officer was totally trying not to smirk.

  17. still be sweet if he had rock band set up in his car. so much fun was had.

Dude, no lie: I was REALLY hoping RB3 would be out in time for this year's run. The new "pro mode" allows you to play REAL guitar in the game! unfortunately, it's not out until Nov...

...but who knows: I may bring the RB2 setup anyway.

That was a LOT of fun:

Brian I think the stash idea would be awesome!!! And I loved your show in 08, I saw it at least 8 times. I'm so excited about the two shows this year i will definitely be seeing both of them!!! ;)

you know what's funny? Guys like you are EXACTLY why I suggested having 2 different shows this year. When people told me they had seen the show 3-4 times last time, I thought "what a bummer! I've got so much other show I'd love them to see!" ... so now you'll get to compare and contrast the two shows :-)

  18. I think that is actually a really cool idea and would love to participate! I haven't seen any of your shows at HHN in the past but hope to at least see Malice this year. I've been listening to podcasts such as NSFW and TWiT for a long time before I ever knew you were at HHN in the past, so I look forward to stopping by and saying hello after a show as well.

    hells. yeah.

    can. not. wait.

  19. I saw him 2 years in a row (can't remember the years...maybe 07 and 08?) and the first year I thought he was "mehhhhh". Nothing special. Second year he did the SAME EXACT ACT and that really annoyed me. The first time I found the cellphone trick mildly amusing. The second time, as soon as he started it, me and my group walked out. Had said I definitely wouldn't waste my time with it this year.

Started watching the Webcast replay and was ready to scoop my own eyes out with a melon baller. Then I fast forwarded a ways ahead to see what happened and I have to admit, I'm mildly intrigued. I think one one of the 3 nights I'm going, I'll see if I can get my friends (4 of the 5 of which saw the two other shows with me and hated it too) to go and give it a shot. Get seats by an isle so we can easily leave halfway through should it be another boring replay of his previous acts, but I think I'm going to give him a chance.

Dude, I'm stoked you're giving the show a second chance, but (forgive me here), I gotta correct you on this one: in 2007, I made a few special appearances at HHN, sharing the "freak show" stage with the super-talented Kevin James and Stevie Starr... But in 2008, 3 of the 5 routines were totally different (...we only did Mr. H and EVP again because the vast majority of people coming hadn't seen me in the previous year).

If your main priority is seeing all-new stuff, then definitely check out the "Malice" show this year. It will be 100%, absolutely different from the show in 2008. If you have a good time, come on back for "Menace", which will STILL have some brand-new routines you've never seen before.

Either way, stop by and tell me what you thought of the show afterward. You guys are the life-blood of HHN, and I always want to know what you think.

    -Brian

the stream was ok I'll check his show

stop by and say "hi" afterward!

I'm actually trying to think of some cool ways to reward the hardcore forum posters out there... like maybe hiding a stash of free t-shirts and DVD's somewhere in the park, and tweeting out clues where they might be found...

...would you guys be interested in that kind of thing?
