Seeds was weird. I went on it twice and the first one was really not great but the second time it turned into one of the scariest houses I've been in. How many times did you go on it?

Twice so far. Will be going back wednesday to try again.

  2. Sorry for the delay on the annual review everyone. Finance midterms kinda took priority this year. Overall, I am thoroughly enjoying this year. Long houses, big sets highlight this year. As always I will try to keep things as spoiler free as possible.

This year I’d like to go through houses based on their ranking from worst to best.

    10. Blumhouse of Horrors: Poor Blumhouse always gets the crap end of the stick. This years titles aren’t as strong as the previous years but overall, I enjoy this house better than last years. The sets for this one are the best I’ve seen in the MIB tent so far. Scares however are pretty weak. Scares are pretty repetitive and the intensity really isn’t there. The Happy Death Day section does a good job for what the story allows and is the better section of the house. The Purge on the other hand is probably the worst incarnation of the franchise I’ve seen so far. I’ll give Blum house a 5 out of 10.

    9. Seeds of Extinction: This one was on the top of my anticipation list for this year however it really didn’t live up to the hype. I was expecting this to be the scariest house of the year and doesn’t deliver. This house just seems very empty to me. Sets are fairly average and the scares arern’t well hidden. 6 out of 10 for Seeds.

    8. Slaughter Sinema: I’ve been through this house only once so this might not be the most fair rating. The concept for this house is great. I just wish they stuck to fewer concepts within the house. All the rooms just feel a little rushed and would’ve liked to see more from specific concepts. Scares are decent and the sets are well done for each movie. I really like the preview videos and they mesh really well to what we saw in the house. For now Slaughter gets a 6.5 out of 10.

7.Halloween 4: The Halloween series has fared well for HHN so far and this one doesn’t disappoint. The house starts a little slow but escalates very quickly to the Halloween houses we know and love. Scares are well done and the Michael’s all do a great job. The finale room in this house is one of the better one’s of the year if you hit it at the right spot its one of my favorite scares of the year. I wish a little more detail was put into the sets and the transition rooms are very bare however. Halloween gets a 7 out of 10.

    6. Trick R Treat: I feel like this house gets neglected because we saw it as a scarezone already. This house is very good but a little short and more so a house that’s better on sets than scares. The actors do a great job in this house and really use their space to make the most of what isn’t the scariest movie. I really love the big sets with the buses and went more into the quarry section of the movie than the scarezone ever could. Another solid 7 our of 10

    5. Stranger Things: A week before the event I finally finished season one so it all was fresh in my head. I love the sets in this house and the demogorgons look great and do a great job scaring. They also did a great job casting the face characters.  For a high profile house the scares are there as well.  The major problem I have witb this house is that it fizzles out toward the end. After the school scene they could’ve fit another room or two but they fill a lot of the space with black curtains and a weak ending. Overall a very fun house 8 out of 10

    4. Carnival Graveyard: A nice big house with great, big sets. The actors in this house are great and their intensity is some of the best of the year. In this house there are lots of unique pieces that I haven’t really seen in a house before. However because of these pieces it leads to a lot of empty space without scares. But where there are scares they are really good. Another 8 out of 10 for Carnival.

    3. Scary Tales: Finally I get to experience a full on Scary Tales house. The façade for this house is unreal and as you go through the house you can tell they spent a lot of time and effort on this one. I also really like the stories they chose to cover. This is a house that is relentless from start to finish. 9 out of 10.

    2. Dead Exposure: Now this is HHN. This house reminds me of what got me into horror nights in the first place. I love the puppets in the beginning and just keeps going and picking up intensity as you go though the house. This is probably one of the scariest house’s I’ve been in for a long while. 9 out of 10

    1. Poltergeist: I have been asking for this IP for years now and Horror Nights did not disappoint. From the second you walk into the house you are transported into another world. All of the key scenes from the movie are executed to perfection. The scares are very well done. This also probably the most diverse house I’ve seen with the huge variation of scares and sets that they use in this one. Thank you HHN for not blowing this one. What should I ask for next? 10 out of 10 for Poltergeist.

    Now for the Scare Zones:

    5. The Harvest: While not a bad scare zone it’s essentially a rehash of scarecrow with some stilt walkers. The actors in the zone do a great job with intensity and using their limited space.

    4. Revenge of Chucky: I really wish they did more with this, Chucky is easily my favorite slasher and this zone doesn’t really do him justice. I like that they put him on a stage and have the other toys running around but I think I just want more from this zone.

    3. Twisted Tradition: I really love the story of this zone, with the normal actors and then the Halloween monsters deeper into the zone. Really dark and the actors use their space very well. The only thing that leaves this zone so low is that it’s a typical Central Park zone that doesn’t really bring anything new to the table.

    2. Vamp 85: This zone has everything! I love the soundtrack and the celebrities. This zone is so much fun and they mix in scares very well. I really love how the actors interact with eachother as well.

    1. Killer Klownz: What a fun zone. They did an outstanding job with the costumes and Klownz act just like they do in the movie. I love interacting with the brothers and the puppet scares are really well done to. One of the most unique zones I’ve seen in a long time. Hoping to see this one move into a house next year.

Thank you as always for taking the time to read this and Happy Haunting.

Does anyone think they will do stay and scream the opening night of HHN? Do they usually or is it just the opening "scaremonies" at the front gate then everyone is let in?

They did it last year and I believe the year before. If you're a passholder be on the lookout for the early entry signups for the first 2 weekends.

Truth or Dare would probably be a good one.  Haven't seen it yet, but just from the previews it looks like there could be some good scenes.

I don't understand the fixation with Get Out.  Yes, it was a decent movie, but what, exactly, is scary about it?    Are you going to walk through a room of stuffy white people sipping tea with their pinkies held up while being served by maids with glazed eyes?   What's scary about that?   I just don't see how that one translates to HHN.

I agree with you that its not a particularly scary movie. But it does have strong horror elements to it. I feel the same way about AHS, not scary in the least, but has strong elements to make things work for a horror event.

I wouldn't mind Get Out as being part of a compilation, it would struggle by itself.

Yeah, I dont see that having KK next to NY makes any sense.  Moving it to Springfield makes it seem just like last year's event though.  I would think it works better for KK to be in Hollywood and Chucky to be in Springfield.

What better scenes would there be than Happy Death Day?   At least we havent had that before. (in Orlando)

Happy death day is good for about a scene or two. I'd be shocked if there wasn't a scene from the new purge as well. There are a couple decent scenes from truth or dare that could be used too.

  6.  Speaking of Blumhouse, is this year supposed to be a mash up or just one property? I've heard rumors that it could be one or the other. I just watched the Belko Experiment this evening, thoroughly enjoyed it would be a fun, campy, gory house, even if just part of a mash up. Unfortunately I don't think we'd ever see it come to life.

So for you HHN vets the original houses gets you more excited?  will be attending my first HHN in October and im most excited for the IP houses, but i have nothing to base it on outside of familiarity.

The majority of the time I look forward to the originals, to me they are more immersive, suspenseful and give more room for creativity. You kind of expect what to see in an IP , originals are a complete surprise. Over the years there have been IP's I have been super excited for (Silent Hill, Shining, Chucky, Halloween) but the originals always blow my mind every year.

So this is going to be a soundstage house.

I was expecting this to be in a tent.
the tent by mib with extra outdoor scene.

I would expect it. It's much easier to recreate  outside scenes within a soundstage

  9. Any thoughts of where stranger things is going to be located? I'm thinking the soundstage where The Shining was last year if it isn't the mega house. I believe that this queue can fit the most people without using a soundstage as one.

As a thought for the mega house, is there any chance that NoES could be a titans or terror kind of deal? Put Chucky, Freddy and Jason in one house? It fits the 80's idea.

Lastly in regards to the Ifrits latest. It definitely points to The Fog which would be a beautiful house if done correctly. Relationships with Carpenter are solid, it would make sense.

Well hmm ive never thought of that. It would certainly be a twist. I feel like the most fun part would be the music.

    My own original wish:

A zoo of animal human hybrids. A science experiment gone wrong.

Have you seen the show Zoo on cbs? I really like the concept however the show is a bit slow. That could translate well into a house I believe.

I find the tweet "Now it is time for us to feast but who will feed? You or the beast?" strange. When you look it up it's similar to the quote "Now it is time for us to fear but who will feed? You or the beast?".

When you look that up you find two searches "Beauty and the Beast" or "Clash of the Titans". "Beauty and the Beast" could be referring to Wolves. And "Clash of the Titans" could be referring to the Titans of Terror.

    But who knows?

Beauty and the beast would make an amazing house. I actually started writing one up a couple years back but never finished. Not only would it be incredibly beautiful but effective scare wise.

I’d imagine they probably will. Nightengales have been requested for a sequel forever, and they’re historical houses have generally had a good track record(aside from Roanoke). My dream Original house is for a revamped Orfanage or Leave It To Cleaver, never got to do those but they seemed badass. That said IT, Halloween, AHS Cult, and ST are basically given properties they’re gonna wanna bring next  year. Since they already have The Conjuring house designed, if the lawsuit works out they’ll probably do it.

I think the lineup for next year is:

    - IT

    - Conjuring

    - Stranger Things

    - AHS Cult

    - Halloween

    - Requel Original

    - Sequel Original(Nightengales Please!)

    - New Original

    - Icon House

Would totally be okay with this. As much as I would love 4 originals, I wouldn't count on it

    Wait, what tweets?

Also I agree with the comment about not wanting Stranger Things as a house. I don't see it translating well into a house. Especially after experiencing Ash vs Evil Dead from both coasts and neither I feel living up to the potential, it was easily my highest anticipated house by a mile and was sorely disappointed. Stranger Things which I feel has a lot less to work with house wise would probably be a huge mis-fire.

I agree also with the "Classic Horror" trend of the Exorcist and Shining, that we will have another next year. What? Idk. The Silence of the Lambs comment sounds fine and possible but we will def have one more classic.

Blumhouse Halloween if it is on schedule and comes out October next year then I can see it being next year especially after houses like Dracula Untold, because it is kinda a locked in money maker. Krampus was a surprise hit and post-October so thus the following year of it being at HHN.

I've always been a huge horror video game promoter even after the lukewarm Silent Hill and Resident Evil at HHN. Particularly petitioning for The Evil Within, The Last of Us, and Bioshock to name a few. However! After HHN not being able to live up to AvED which I feel hits the same ball park of fantasy that the games go for I might be backing down on that demand a bit until I feel they can tackle the huge fantasy demands that video game horror gives.

Also while I may not have ever been B&T's biggest supporter I do agree that unless they figure out an appropriate replacement it will be sorely missed and a huge gap missing in the event. Magic shows in the past like 50 penny (or whatever it was called) simply won't do and I have moved passed needing Rocky Horror at HHN. It will be really interesting how that hole is tackled and like I said never been B&T's biggest fan but truly understand its purpose in the event.

When it comes to video games I'm super picky. Resident Evil was really weak when they did it a few years back and silent hill was average. I think if they just stuck to resident evil 7 it could work.

I would love to see until dawn or the last of us. The last of us would just be a beautiful maze. The Evil Within however would be very difficult to recreate. I haven't played the second one yet. But the first jumps around to much and wouldn't  flow well.

  14. I'm thinking:

    -AHS Cult

-Stranger things as the mega house

-Something John Carpenter, either another Halloween, the thing, or the fog

-Chucky in some shape or form.

-Another classic horror movie, hoping for poltergeist but that would be a rights nightmare. Would assume either another Friday the 13th or classic monsters.

    -The Ring

    - if something gets scrapped again I could see trick r treat, sinister, or insidious getting reused as a house again.

Originals: something from the past hopefully. And then a house based on strong sets and another based on strong scares.

Ok, so is there any news yet on the last B&T show?  I haven't seen any announcements.  I just wonder how they will handle it.  We are flying back down for the final weekend because we were told it's rather empty that weekend.  I wonder if that will change due to B&T?   I'm hoping it's not crazy because I was looking forward to doing this without having to fight crowds.

    Also - HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

By the way, if you see us this weekend (wearing either Dare 2 Escape shirt or Nightmares shirt), please say hi.  If you say hello and tell me you're from Nightmares, I'll give you one of the awesome skull bracelets we make for the event (we hand them out to scareactors who we feel are doing an exceptional job.. or if they scare us).  We'll be handing out tons of them for the last weekend.  I always like to say thank you to people who make me so happy.  :)

No word yet on the final show. However Ap's get their own private show on the third.

The market scene in walking dead 2014 was massive. That's the biggest from my memory. The banner room in AHS freak show was also bigger than the bathroom. Silent Hill also had a few fairly large rooms.
